today we're looking at 10 nba players who betrayed their teams the 10 biggest betrayals in the nba since the year 2000 and by this i'm talking about players who betrayed their team not the other way around that video will come soon but there's been a good amount of them over the years where guys just turned their backs on these franchises and their teammates in moves that really nobody expected or saw coming and one of the best examples of this comes from 2012 when wright allen joined the miami heat as we know lebron had always been a rival of the celtics big three and that amplified when he beat the celtics in the 2011 and 12 playoffs well the plan was for boston's big three to keep trying to beat miami but ray allen had other plans because in 2012 he was an unrestricted free agent the heat had just beat boston in seven games and the celtics offered him a 12 million dollar deal to return to the team well he took less money from miami to switch teams and go to their rivals in a move that nobody saw coming he didn't tell the celtics beforehand he didn't tell any of his friends or teammates he just left turning his back on all of them as well as every boston celtics fan because it pretty much destroyed that team's chances at another championship i mean not taking anyone's side here but it was really one of the worst ways you could leave a team so all of his former teammates paul pierce kevin garnett rajon rondo kendrick perkins they all didn't talk to rey for years a couple years ago pierce finally spent some time with allen but the rest of the guys have still never talked to him again and at this point probably never will then we gotta go a little further back to remember when shaq left the orlando magic now i've seen a few people call this one a betrayal by shaq but i don't know about that one here you decide for yourself so of course in 1992 the magic drafted o'neal and he quickly became a fan favorite he was a superstar right away too on and off the court a few years past and in the 1995 offseason he's due for a max contract and this was when everyone turned on him the media started to question whether or not shaq was worth a record-breaking 115 million dollar deal then a poll came out where 91 of orlando magic fans who were asked said that shaq wasn't worth that money so combine that with shaq already feeling like the magic wanted to build their team around penny hardaway being the star and he just straight up left to the lakers and got a 7 year 121 million deal winning them three championships and definitely proving the magic wrong now some people say he betrayed the magic because he didn't even let them sign and trade him and the fans and media turned to him so you could see why he didn't care about leaving but there was no word on if the magic started to give up on him too if they did you can see why he did what he did but if they didn't maybe this one's kinda on him and next up is jason kidd with just the ultimate betrayal so as we know kid we joined the maps in 2008. he helped dallas win their 2011 nba championship and played there for one more season until 2012. well in the 2012 offseason he had a talk with mark cuban and in it they discussed how jason would resign with dallas on a three-year 9.3 million dollar contract and after it was over he would transition into a front office role for them well later on in that same exact day he signed with the knicks on the same exact 3 year 9.3 million deal that the mavs just offered him i don't know what went on in his head that day in between making these two moves and apparently neither did mark cuban because his betrayal is the reason that he said he never retired jason kidd's number two jersey for the mavs and the whole thing so strange the knicks signed kid in the first place to mentor jeremy lin but then let him go sign with the rockets that same off-season so who knows and not only did cuban get burned by jason kidd but deandre jordan too so in the 2015 offseason tyson chandler had just left his second stint with the mavericks so they needed a center and they had actually landed deandre jordan who verbally agreed to sign with them on a four-year 80 million dollar contract and that should have been that he made the verbal commitment so he should have followed through with it but then basically half the clippers roster flew out to his house had a meeting with him for hours then they got word that mark cuban was trying to come to his house too and they just wouldn't let him in wouldn't let deandre take calls from him or chandler parsons and they eventually persuaded deandre to sign with la on a four-year 88 million dollar deal so he really betrayed mark cuban and the entire mavs roster by backing out of his deal at the last minute and it was one that hurt because now instead they're starting center with zaza pachulia then there's probably the most popular with kevin durant turning his back on the okc thunder and leaving to the golden state warriors okc drafted him he made it to the nba finals with them was a part of a duo with russell westbrook won the mvp and then surprised everyone signing with the 73-9 golden state warriors the team that had just come back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the thunder in the western conference finals by the way and it's always surprising when a superstar just leaves a team in free agency because most of the time if the team is expecting them to leave they find a trade for them but that wasn't the case here because not only did he leave westbrook but it was reported that he had a dinner with russ and nick collison and told them that he wasn't leaving the team and that he was staying with the thunder then got on a plane the next day and met with the warriors and decided to sign with them so he betrayed okc and westbrook in a way which is why they didn't talk for a while after that and how he handled it may have been messed up but i am on a kd's side with this one on the all the smoke podcast a while back he said he left okc because his entire team there he was just playing with a lot of athletes and never any skill guys he was tired of being the only one on the team that could shoot and how could you blame him katie was right i mean look at their lineup his last year there they're starting five with westbrook andre roberson himself nick collison and steven adams so he left to the warriors who had two of the most skilled players and best shooters in the nba so in his case it was a perfect fit for him then we go way back to gilbert arenas in 2003 he was drafted in the second round by the warriors and played for them for two years and he was clearly becoming a star so in 2003 he was a restricted free agent and the wizards offered him a six-year 60 million dollar contract one that the warriors couldn't match but arenas was still unsure of where he wanted to sign it was between the warriors wizards and the clippers so he made the decision with a coin flip i don't know how a two-sided coin decides between three teams but he made it work and he obviously joined the washington wizards and this one felt like a betrayal because the warriors were the ones that gave him a chance helped him become the most improved player in the nba and they were finally getting on track to becoming a good team and they only couldn't match the wizards deal because of a flawed rule with him being a second round pick that was corrected and is now known as the gilbert arenas role so he brings it down to a coin flip leaves the team and they become bad for most of the time until the splash brothers era and we can keep things around the same time period with our next player which is vince carter so the raptors drafted vince he became a star there made them a good team and was known as the best raptors player for years but you may not remember how bad things left off for him there well in the 2004 offseason the raptors started a rebuild and vince wasn't happy with this he wanted to win now so the front office lied to him and told them that's what they were going to do while instead they just continued to start rebuilding so vince requested a trade but the season started and they still didn't trade him so for the first 20 games of the season he averaged under 15 points a game was often benched in the fourth quarter some believe he even faked entries to get out of games early and he later admitted to not trying so he would get traded sooner and it worked because superstar vince carter got traded for basically nothing so raptors fans burned his jersey and in his first game back in toronto everyone booed him and wore fuvc shirts i see both sides here but i also see why the team felt betrayed then we have carmelo anthony who had the rare double betrayal here though his contract was up with the nuggets in the 2011 offseason well in the 2010 offseason he declined a contract extension with denver which meant that he just didn't want to be there anymore and that was true because soon after he requested a trade so in february of 2011 they traded him to the knicks for wilson chandler danilo galinare timothy mozgov and raymond felton so by the time he got there the knicks had zero depth and he kinda played himself he betrayed the nuggets by leaving them and then betrayed the knicks by having them give up half their roster to get him when he could have just waited four more months and straight up signed with new york in the offseason and all of this was part of the reason new york was never good with him it was tricky though either way he had to betray someone and with the scenario he chose he played himself and speaking of double betrayals some say dwight howard did the same thing so as we know he was the orlando magic star player but he got tired of losing so in april of 2012 it comes out that he asked management to fire stan van gundy who was their head coach they fire him then two weeks later he's ruled out for the rest of the year for a planned back surgery i don't know why he'd get his head coach fired if he knew he wasn't even going to be playing anymore and i even more don't know why he'd do it if he knew that he'd be leaving the team because he requested a trade just a couple months after that so once again magic fans felt betrayed by all this but then he gets to the lakers and they give up a good amount for him and with him they now have championship hopes but he couldn't get along with his teammates never fully got in shape then left the team after his agency that next offseason so he didn't give it his all and it cost them too and finally we have kyrie irving and lebron james who both did the cavs dirty kyrie requested to trade out of nowhere and did it publicly to the point where it hurt his trade value for cleveland turning his back on lebron james as well as the team that drafted him and lebron betrayed the cavs in what was one of the biggest backstabbing moments ever because he announced his free agency move on live tv without informing anyone in cavs management what he was gonna do and left them with the impression that he was gonna resign with them so they lost him and got nothing in return and of course we're a terrible team until he returned if you enjoyed the video don't forget to drop a like subscribe if you're new comment any video ideas you might want to see in the future
