[Music] we all know that Disney likes to give us connections to their other films and when watching them we like to look for them so today we're taking a look at 10 Disney Princess connections that you wouldn't expect wait before we get started make sure to click that red button to subscribe for more great movie launch you guess what movie this is from the emoji the answer will be revealed at the end of this video so stay tuned the magic carpet the magic carpet appears in more films than just Aladdin and its sequels Ron Clements and John Musker are pretty much legends in the realm of Disney Animation at this point in time having worked on many of our favorite movies mostly as directors but also as writers too they're the directors attached to the Little Mermaid Aladdin Treasure Planet for The Princess and the Frog and Malana let's go back to the magic carpet though he is the star of the show in the opening scene - The Princess and the Frog a young girl on a balcony can be seen shaking carpet out he also appears being carried across the beach in mallanna it isn't quite as purple or shiny but it is most definitely the same design even though Clemens and Musker weren't involved with the work on the Hunchback of Notre Dom the carpet also appears in this film - this time being carried by a man as he walks through the streets of Paris the magic carpet is probably the character who has the most cameos of any Disney movie and with appearances in Louisiana Polynesia and France it also has to be one of the most well traveled carpets in history [Music] princesses who marry into royalty wear gloves speaking of The Princess and the Frog has anyone noticed what Tiana Belle and Cinderella's costumes all have in common all three of them wear opera gloves with their costumes they are also the only three princesses who married into royalty compared this to the princess who were born into royalty such as Aurora Snow White Rapunzel and Ariel they all have their hands on show in their costumes Elsa is the only one born into royalty who ever wears gloves and it's for a very different reason there are a lot of theories about why those who marry into royalty would wear gloves one of these is that they would wear them to signal their non royal birth and that the gloves would be something democratic and about respect one of the others is that the reason for this is more to do with the time periods the way Royals would dress would be very different from how the general public and even their courtiers would dress to the most part they could get away with anything when the Beauty and the Beast The Princess and the Frog and Cinderella was set gloves receive as fashionable so their gloves are probably a combination of politics and fashion hola did you reuses animation in their movies but they also sometimes reuse ideas almost 20 years after the release of Snow White Disney released their third princess film Sleeping Beauty in many ways the story has a lot of shared elements with both focusing on princesses who lived in the forest are cursed to sleep by the villain and awoken by true love's kiss as such Disney was understandably cautious about Sleeping Beauty in some of the earlier drafts for Snow White the prince was meant to be imprisoned by the witch and have to fight his way out in order to reach Snow White in time to wake her up the idea was scrapped from the film partly due to the fact that at the time the artists were not able to accurately draw males at least not to quite the same level as they could win it it was also renewed because it felt like it would take too long in terms of having him get to her the idea was then recycled into maleficent's capture of Prince Philip and his escape and Sleeping Beauty when Disney animators had a bit more experience with drawing men and when it gave more to the story [Music] Disney referenced their own films with books several of Disney's princesses are well known for being avid readers and the books shown in the Beauty and the Beast The Princess and the Frog entangled contain Easter eggs two other Disney Princesses when Belle is describing her favorite book she talks of far off places daring sword fights magic and a prince in disguise she mentions that the main character meets her prince charming but doesn't know that it's him yet she's reading Aladdin which was Disney's next Animated Feature which was released a year later in the Princess and the Frog Charlotte's obsession with princesses is established early on when Tiana is later turned into a frog she accidentally wrecks Charlotte's room knocking over some of Charlotte's books the brief peak we get at her bookshelf shows that among her books she has a copy of Rapunzel which was what Disney's next princess movie Tangled was based on tangled used books to make a few references as Rapunzel and Flynn are looking over an atlas there are a few fairytale books on display on the floor an open book is illustrated with the opening sequence of Sleeping Beauty and two of the other books on the floor are the Beauty and the Beast and A Little Mermaid [Music] Moana and The Little Mermaid are linked by crabs Tama Toa is a giant man-eating treasure hoarding coconut crab who resides in the realm of monsters he has Maui's magical hook among his possessions and wants to feed his stone so that he rules everything during his fight with Moana and Maui he has flipped onto his back and in an end credits scene he is still there being one of those characters who knows he's in a movie he asked the audience for some help stating that if he had a cool Jamaican accent and was called Sebastian they would help the Little Mermaid and Moana were both worked on by Clemens and Musker so it makes sense that there would be a few connections there it's a Disney film after all as it happens Tama Toa ''s existence does oh a little bit to Sebastian in the Little Mermaid he spends a good few minutes having to evade the attack of the palaces eccentric cook who was trying to catch cook and eat him because they do live by the sea after all instead of being eaten by humans Tama Toa does the eating making him a form of Sebastian's revenge guess all of that treasure didn't do him much good for the record we totally would have helped Sebastian you have the most unusual name - John Smith the Chiefs daughter not every princess in the Disney Princess Canon is technically a princess mulan for example has nothing to do with royalty she wasn't born into it and she didn't marry into it some people have argued that her receiving Emperor's crest makes her an honorary princess but the system doesn't work that way it's more akin to being a war hero which is why she has Disney princess status with some of the characters the title is a little murkier people have been arguing against Pocahontas inclusion for about two decades because as far as titles go she isn't actually a princess whilst not being a princess in the traditional sense though she is the Chieftains daughter which in many ways is an equivalent Disney finally went on to address this almost twenty years later with the release of Moana Moana is the daughter of her Island's chief to one day become chief herself and when Maui repeatedly calls her a princess she is pretty annoyed and makes this clear now he responds by pointing out that she fits the Bill of Princess and that she wears a dress and has an animal sidekick which may be the most accurate description the term has ever been given Jane is probably Belen Adams - send it son sharp-eyed fans notice that Jane owned a teapot that was quite familiar to us they own a set resembling mrs. pots and chip leading many people to speculate that Jane is a descendant of Adam and Belle of course there are a few hiccups in this theory when the staff become human again there are no objects left over and it wasn't a pre-existing set best-case scenario they just really liked the pattern and being royalty and all they were able to get someone to make them their very own inanimate one the royalty factor is another thing that led people to think that Jane could have been their descendant in real life France the story took place not long before the French Revolution where the people took over and executed many members of the aristocracy many people fled to other European countries including England where the porters are from when they fled they probably had enough money to live comfortably and become scientists the porters even look a bit like Belle and Maurice Belle and Jane both have brown hair and wear yellow and Maurice and mr. Porter are both eccentric men with gray hair and mustaches both women also have a bit of a thing for wild men so who knows could Mother Gothel be the Evil Queen there is a theory that Snow White's Evil Queen and tangles Mother Gothel are actually the same person and the pair shares some similarities both were obsessed with youth and beauty the Evil Queen wanted Snow dead and Gothel went to great lengths of kidnapping a magic baby and locking her in a tower they both owned daggers which look remarkably similar that being said it looks similar to Frollo xin the hunchback of notre dom so maybe it's just the standard-issue two Disney villains both movies are set in Germany and the gap of 400 years between the films aren't a stretch tangled started a few hundred years before Rapunzel was born when an elderly Gothel finds the flower and uses its power it isn't much of a stretch for a woman who was able to live for a few centuries to be able to survive a fall and then leave and grow old in that time they even looked similar one of the biggest differences is that Queen has a more traditional hag look especially with her hooked nose this is probably because Gothel has her own nose and own face and without well look at the eyes for a start asked her why she no longer does magic it didn't work out too well for her last time did it rapunzel Anna and Elsa cousins speaking of tangled we are going to talk about the one that we know you're here for Rapunzel Elsa and Anna from tangled and frozen are cousins the theory starts when arendelle's King and Queen go off on a voyage and are killed along the way when their boat is caught up in a storm three years later their eldest daughter Elsa is having her coronation and we see Rapunzel and Flynn our guests there we know it is set after tangled because Rapunzel has short brown hair the number three comes up a few times three years before that their parents died and three years before that in the real world tangled was released the prominence of three years makes it clear the events of tangled take place three years before frozen when the king and queen left they were actually attending Rapunzel's wedding because you can't not attend your niece's wedding what we aren't completely sure about is exactly how they are cousins generally the idea is that their mother's Queen Ariana and Queen and Oona are sisters who are married off to other kingdoms they look quite similar even more so than most Disney women do even having similar colored hair dark hair seems to be a natural trait in their family as it has shown that Rapunzel's natural hair is this color it is Ariel shipwreck is probably King Agner and Queen in Tunis ship we've already mentioned that frozen's King Agner and queen of Doudna were potentially killed whilst they were on the way to the wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn but geographically speaking this means that their shipwreck is probably the one that we see Ariel exploring in the Little Mermaid whilst arendelle and Corona are fictional places in themselves they are based on Norway in Germany respectively this means that the voyage they took down from Norway towards mainland Europe takes them directly past Denmark which is where the Little Mermaid originally written by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen is set if this is the case and it's very likely that their ship was discovered by Ariel the North Sea is very susceptible to storms especially right around the area of Germany and Denmark if the royal ship went down anywhere it would make sense that it would go down there as well as that is the time scale frozen is said around 1850 give or take a few years and the Little Mermaid was set in the 1890s this meant that the shipwreck definitely took place beforehand and that there was enough time between the tooth of the ship to have been ruined by the sea and there are 10 Disney princess connections that you wouldn't expect do you know any other connections that we left out let us know in the comments below remember to like this video and click the subscribe button for more great content the movie emoji was well did you get it right let us know from us at Screen Rant thanks for watching and we'll see you next time [Music]
