10 ART STYLE CHALLENGE (xp pen, jaidenanimations, Walten files, gorillaz, Speedpaint)

[Music] hello my name is Emma as an artist I get inspired by a million different things most of which are something I hyperfixate on I mostly dabble in illustration and character design so visually I gravitate towards similar things in my artwork a while ago I did a video on redesigning The Wish movie which made me realize I really like to draw in different art Styles now my Disney replication wasn't perfect but I actually learned quite a bit from studying it so I had the itch to do it again but this time on a bigger scale this is a common challenge amongst the YouTube art community usually it's done with different art YouTubers or TV shows but for this video I'm going to replicate the styles of every artist or niche interest that has had an influence on my artwork in some way whether it be of recent or in the way past this will be a random assortment of things but it will be fun nonetheless before we jump in though I'd like to tell you about today's partner XP pen the lovely people at XP pen sent me their artist 13.3 Pro to use and try out it's a wonderful drawing tablet with tons of features the display is clear and crisp with a lot of presets that make sure the colors are as accurate as possible the tablet comes with a lot of buttons perfect for shortcut keys I know artists love that and I love that too these buttons are customizable to cater to your needs and what you'd use the most my favorite is the scroller perfect for zooming in and out on an illustration that is very useful the pressure sensitivity is great when it when it comes to drawing you can get that beautiful varying line weight with ease there's very little delay as well so Strokes feel natural and smooth if you looking for a new tablet I'd recommend XP pen you can use the link in my description to check them out if you want thanks so much to XP pen and let's get back to the video all right here's here's the picky picky I didn't want to do like a generator I kind of wanted to do it like pick it's more fun so I'm a little nervous cuz some of them are like really hard and uh I'm scared okay first person Sak K let's go for this challenge I decided to draw Jane because she's my baby right now she is so fun to draw I love drawing her a little rundown of her is that she is from 2006 and is a time traveler with her friends if you want to know more watch these videos but L doesn't have a lot of significance in this video so don't worry now this is one of my recent Inspirations I found these lovely illustrations on Tik Tok and I think the first time I saw them I audibly gased because they're just so Whimsical I just love it the Silhouettes are wonderful and the fashion mixed with the old Tech and Furniture I eat it I eat it most of sarak K illustrations in the beginning were created by the artist Vivien cubos in the early' 7s she worked as a freelance artist to support her family and began creating sarak k for Valentine's and greeting cards Vivian worked from her home in the harbor side suburb of grenage Sydney and only had her window to look out for inspiration in Natural Beauty from what I've seen she's still working and painting though she is retired now I think part of me loves Sak because it preserves this specific time in fashion with bell bottoms and Tiffany lamps you can also clearly see the influence of the Edwardian Revival in the' 70s it's always so interesting to me when certain things come back in style in time periods that are distant to us I thought this would be the hardest to replicate but I didn't have as hard of a time as I thought I would going into this I knew I'd change Jane's clothes or appearance as much as needed to fit in with whatever style I'm drawing generally though I knew I wanted two things to keep if I could with her design um her pigtails and some kind of purple clothing because I feel like that makes her identifiable there wasn't an extra challenge as well since Jane is a bit thicker and most of these Styles don't include body types like that saying that in a totally neutral way don't get mad at me I had to figure out how her body type would look in these styles with pretty much no reference but I think I pulled it off pretty good with this I think I like it I think it's good I think it's fine thankfully Jane already has those baggy pants so it was helpful in making her look more like herself in almost every illustration they hold some kind of flower so I had to give her up okay it's so cute here she is this might be my favorite I need to study this style more it's so scrumptious second [Music] pick oh don't blur namami I hope I'm saying that right okay for this artist name I'm going to say nari but Google said nari and I feel like that is not correct so I'm going to say norami sorry if that's wrong forgive namami has been one of those artists I followed for a long time back in Peak animation meme times of like 2015 to 2017 I remember being really inspired by her OC's and falling in love with them and I still love them to this day she has been viral so many times but honestly she pretty underrated so go check her out recently she's been posting a lot on Tik Tok and YouTube shorts so lots of things too much her style of recent has a lot of textured line art and dynamic poses that I wanted to replicate she draws these button noses which I love and I've been trying to stylize noses recently so this was a good little study I kind of thought this one through of if norami Drew Jane she'd probably get her pretty close to how she act actually looked so I didn't stray from the original pretty much at all sometimes she draws five fingers and sometimes she draws four so I went back and forth but four seemed to work so boom I think this one came out pretty good I'm a little iffy on some parts but overall thumbs up yippee all right third so we're going to draw in that style here we go with the weird ones okay okay all right this one is specific in the beginning of Shrek there's the iconic fairy tale toilet paper scene and the art and the artwork in the book I feel adds so much to the World building of Shrek as weird as that sounds this is a classic fairy tale setting with a Twist that's Shrek and this scene reflects that everything modern that is referenced in Shrek is cleverly weaved into this Medieval World so of course books are going to look like this and the idea of fairy tales way heavy in this universe so a fairy tale would be so normalized to the point of it being toilet reading material but what the hell am I yapping about shut up what I just explained is a more in-depth reason as to why I like this scene but in short I think the art in the book looks cool so so I want to draw it I mean I could have just said that but made it a little more interesting right anyway so this art style at first glance is simple but as you start to look at it you realize that it's more intricate than you think I wanted to do a different pose than just standing so I went with a sitting pose wo I also felt the background art added a ton to this style and it felt empty without it so I added this shining gold window to the back I referenced the one princess in that book heavily so sorry if she looks a little too similar unfortunately there's only two characters to go off of for this one so I I did my best here she is heart love love love her all right let's fish around for this one fourth fourth oh Looney tun show I watched the Looney tun show a lot when I was younger and I liked it a lot I picked it up again years later and I think it still holds up really well this show really elevates the original style of the older cartoons it's still recognizable but it's more saturated and bouncy it's a really solid interpretation of the characters visually I'd say the humor is a lot different to the original Looney Tunes but I really like dry humor so we got to make Jane a furry even though humans exist in this world that's no fun they don't have fun designs furry I already decided the best animal for Jane would be a cat because obviously that suits her best come on she is literally a cat there aren't a lot of cats to go off of but I used the cat Penelope for a lot of reference I noticed rabbits and cats share a lot of the same features in this style so she ended up looking A Lot Like Bugs Bunny way more than I wanted but ah it happens I simplified her outfit to match the show more and now that I'm looking at it I think she would be a Persian cat I feel like that fits her really well not all the characters have the gloves but I don't care I love them she's got to have them she's special I think I could have been more confident with line work but overall not bad not bad she looks like she'd be a character everyone hates though I'm not sure sure why I get that Vibe Fifth Fifth dig around Jaden Jaden animations classic in the drawing YouTubers art style challenge I discovered Jaden from the IH has cupquake animation so I am a Jaden veteran here I get a discount at IHOP I remember when I was younger I really looked up to her and I wanted this style so bad this toky doy eye thing had a grip on me man I would draw like this all the time so for nostalgia's sake I drew her in her older style since I don't watch her that much anymore she's great I just don't seek content like this anymore but I tune in every once in a while watching her old videos made me realize how much humor has changed on the Internet it's not bad or cringe but I just go wow that joke would not be made today just an observation I distinctly remember stealing this handstyle this connected finger thing yes I I yoinked that for sure this one was really straightforward I could have colored more but I don't know I felt like a sin I had to keep it authentic here she is this one was a lot of fun brought back a lot of memories while drawing sixth Martin walls the Walton files I have not created a lot of horror but I'm realizing more and more how inspired I am by horror media I think I've mentioned this before I used to be deathly afraid but now I really like it the Walton files if you don't know is an analog horror series on YouTube inspired by Five Nights at Freddy's it's been going for a couple years and as I was making this video got a major update after about a year of limbo there's been uploads but it hasn't really been a continuation of the story the art style in this series is so wonderfully unsettling the use of the airbrushed black shading and the elongated features is so good I love that this series uses 2D animation and illustrations instead of 3D models it really gives a unique spin on this concept in the most recent installment animation was used heavily throughout which I loved it was so interesting seeing these characters that were basically pngs moving around and walking around I was like oh I drew this before watching the new installment so I thought a portrait style would fit best since most of the human characters didn't have a full body reference to go off of until now I use this drawing of Sophie Walton for reference since most most human characters are portrayed by these edited photos of real people and I found this was the only detailed illustration I could find of a person at the time to add the VHS filter I went into cap cut and used one of their effects I put a screenshot of what effect it is I think it really added what it needed to be complete here she is it's hard to draw Jane with a more long face but I think there was no way to get around it it's just a stap of the style oh Jamie huet gorillas yes I had a major gorillas face but I'm a very new fan when it comes to timelines I wasn't even alive when they first were created in 1998 Dang if you don't know gorillas is a cartoon band created by Damon alar singer songwriter and member of the band blur and Jamie huet the artist and creator of the characters he also is famed with the creation of Tank Girl if you are a gorillas fan you probably knew that already but I'm just telling you since gorillas has been around for a long time they go through what people have called phases phases usually change when there's a big gap between albums or the artwork goes into a different direction you can see a big change between Phase 1 and Phase 2 I'm really into the early 2000s right now I'm sure you can tell so I wanted to replicate an earlier face since that time period was my favorite visually Phase 2 has my favorite music and art style so no brainer there I wanted to replicate this style I will say as much as I love gorillas I got to them in the pandemic so whenever I listen to them now it's all I can think about that time period that weird time period anyway I thought keep Jane's outfit pretty similar in this one but in Phase 2 the colors were pretty desaturated and grungy so I felt if you took her in this outfit and inserted her with the rest of the crew she would look like a Mary Sue rainbow dog comparatively not saying she is or there's anything wrong with rainbow dogs just that she wouldn't fit you know so I took reference from the only girl in the group noodle uh there was two these girlfriend but she's only drawn like once so there's not many women to go off of that's something I want I want more characters and the gorillas they should expand the universe instead of just rerunning the same thing over and over again gorillas band members are feeling more like brand mascots than actual characters with lives recently is anyone else feeling that I just wish that they did more with the story maybe one day we'll actually get the movie Scott Pilgrim got a show it could happen right Anything could happen I darkened her color palette a lot her hairstyle really fit with the way that uh Jamie Drew hair so I was happy with that I gave her a skirt because I thought it would look better than pants I think I replicated it pretty well maybe this will be one of those things where I look back later and hate it but right now I like it I'm hoping I get one in here I really want oh this is the one I wanted oh I swear did not rig this oh my God this is another weird one facade is a game created in 2005 it used AI to let the player type and talk to a failing couple in their apartment the goal is to try and help them save their marriage this game interests me for a lot of reasons personally I see it as a psychological horror I don't think it was meant to be seen as that I don't think that was its intention when created but there's so many Eerie things about it that is just so good I love when things are unintentionally creepy I don't know it's very interesting you are greeted by these two people who live in this secluded apartment they don't even have people around them in the building it's just an elevator that leads to their door tensions are always high between grace and trip which is obviously uncomfortable for the player there's pretty much no point in the game when they're not fighting if you look out the window there's only a low quality image of a city the apartment is dark and empty most of the time you'll get a bad ending since there's only one good ending when you get kicked out by trip the game ends starting it up resets the whole thing again and you play from square one tripping Grace reliving the same thing over and over again fighting over the same things don't even get me started on the soundtrack [Music] there is no reason for this game soundtrack to be so Eerie the setting the characters the situation it's all very very unsettling I have a hard time explaining the way things make me feel but comparison helps so one thing that feels similar to the setting and Vibe is the we plays pool game for some reason that always gave me a creepy Vibe especially when you're a kid who played the Wii alone a lot only child Vibes there's certain things in Wii games that feel a little Eerie when you're you're in a dark living room and playing the Wii by yourself anyway I wouldn't say facade art style is one I particularly strive for but it does do a great job in my opinion of creating uneasiness these are realistic figures but there's something off about them when they turn their heads they kind of you know warp and they don't look right I'm getting the itch to make something horror related like it's pouring out of me lately but I have no clue what to put it towards I skipped out on adding Jane choker to this one it felt a little too punk Tumblr edit I honestly didn't know if I'd add her pigtails without it looking weird or too much in the end I think it it's okay this game was supposed to have a sequel called the party but that obviously got scrapped and I think that's another reason I find this so interesting is because it's basically abandoned but people still pick it up on YouTube like every year or so somebody plays it poop what I said poop what a lovely little game let's do this one since it's sticking out this is the ninth Lauren fast another old inspiration for me come on I was an MLP kid of course I love Lauren fost I went back and forth with this one fost has a lot of work under her belt MLP being one of the most prominent but I felt I done enough MLP at the moment so I turned to her passion project I believe this was the concept fost was working on before being picked up for My Little Pony these characters are so Dynamic and fun I love them so much so Jane had to be in this style I didn't see this one as Jane being another galaxy girl since there's only so much you can do and most of the girls have already been named after planets or stars or parts of the Galaxy so she's just a girl I'm just a girl what I did with this one was basically blow up certain parts of her silhouette like the pigtails and her star clip scents I thought that would fit nicely one thing I noticed was the clothing designs usually had some sort of intricate pattern on them so I changed up her clothes once again I didn't realize how much this style looked like Powerpuff Girls until I drew this and then I was like oh yeah that makes sense obviously this is definitely one of my favorites uh again the body type was a bit hard but I think I balanced it enough that she still looks like the style I hope final one okay well here we go JC line decker yeah this one's going to be challenging last style let's go we did it I was not looking forward to this one one bit I was actually really scared line decker has been one of my favorite artists for a long time now I've tried to replicate his style many times and failed many times so I needed this one to be a very small area to work with so I could could focus all my efforts into making a smaller portion look as accurate as possible because faces are one thing but clothing is a whole another ballpark when it comes to JC line decker I mean have you seen the way this man rendered clothing come on I did a very closeup portrait taking heavy reference off of this painting I don't think it's that great but it's definitely better than my P past attempt so a w in my book if you've never looked into JC line decker I really recommend his artwork some of the most well-crafted interpretations of the human form I've ever seen his paintings are so shiny and warm and the way he rendered makes me so envious I wish I could do that lme Decker was a gay man so he drew a lot of beautiful men the women he painted were beautiful as well but they didn't always hold the spotlight and and could be kind of goofy which is a nice thing to see from this time period I changed Jane's hair significantly because I believe line decker was prominent in the 1900s and the 20s so there was no way I could make her Punk style hair look correct I think this one turned out eh it's not really ending with the bang Vibes but overall good enough the hair needs work for sure but what are you going to do I'm not a perfect person and I have flaws I hope you've
