[Applause] [Music] so [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the grace of our lord jesus christ the love of god in the communion of the holy spirit be with you all if your hand will cause you to go to gehenna cut it off and if your eye will lead you to hell cut it off it is better to enter life name than to enter hell with your whole self these are the words of jesus today frightening towards but they are worlds of hope because his grace is there to assist us even as we make our struggles and so my dear friends to prepare ourselves to celebrate these sacred mysteries let us call to mind our sins and ask the lord for pardon and mercy for the times we have presumed his mercy and refused to love i confess to almighty god that i have greatly seen in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done mean what i have planned to do through my prayer with my most previous fault may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us with a lust in life [Music] [Music] christmas is [Music] so [Music] hey [Music] my [Music] oh [Music] is [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] let us pray oh god who manifests your almighty power above all by powdering and sure with mercy [Music] be so we pray your grace abundantly upon us and make those hesitant to attain your promises is to the treasures of heaven through our lord jesus christ your son lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever [Music] [Music] a reading from the book of numbers the lord came down in the cloud and spoke to moses taking some of the spirit that was on moses the lord bestowed it on the seventy elders and as the spirit came to rest on them they prophesied now two men one named eldad and the other me dad were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp they too had been on the list but had not gone out to the tent [Applause] yet the spirit came to rest on them also and they prophesied in the camp so when a young man quickly told moses eldad and me dad are prophesying in the camp joshua the son of nun who from his youth had been moses's aid said moses my lord stop them but moses answered him are you jealous for my sake would that all the people of the lord were prophets would that the lord might bestow his spirit on them all the word of the lord [Music] [Music] lord give joy to the heart [Music] [Music] the lord is perfect refreshing the soul the decree of the lord is trustworthy giving wisdom to the symbols [Music] [Applause] give joy the fear of the lord is pure enduring forever [Music] the ordinances of the lord are true all of them just [Music] joy [Laughter] for your servant is careful of them very diligent in keeping them [Music] yet who can detect feelings [Music] cleanse me from my unknown faults [Music] give joy [Laughter] [Music] restrain your servants let it model over me [Applause] then shall i be blameless and innocent of serious sin [Applause] give joy to lord so a reading from the letter of saint james come on now you rich weep and wail over your impeding miseries your wealth is rotted away your clothes have become moth eaten your gold and silver have corroded and that corrosion will be testimony against you it will devour your flesh like fire you have stored up treasure for the last days behold the wages you withheld from your workers who harvested your fields are crying aloud and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the lord of hosts you have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter you have condemned you have murdered the righteous one he offers you no resistance the word of the lord [Music] oh [Music] your word oh lord is truth [Music] us in the truth [Music] [Music] [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to mark at that time john said to jesus teacher we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us jesus replied do not prevent him there is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me for whoever is not against us is for us anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to christ amen i say to you will surely not lose his reward whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin who would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea if your hand causes you to sin cut it off it is better for you to enter into life maimed then with two hands to go into gehenna into the unquenchable fire and if your foot causes you to sin cut it off it is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into gehenna and if your eye causes you to sin pluck it out better for you to enter into the kingdom of god with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into cahenna where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched the gospel of the lord again we welcome all those who are joining us via the live stream it's always very wonderful to worship with you today we heard in the gospel something that we don't always like to hear doesn't give joy to talk about hellfire but we have to talk about it because that's what jesus asks us to do it's not a fun gospel it's terrifying but you know what do not be afraid the message of today is the message of hope even though hell happens to be part of it but it's about hope hope in what god is capable of doing despite your struggles despite where you are health is not about god's anger it's so much about god's love than anger i'm sure you'll be surprised we thought hell is where you go and fire will be born in you forever and ever well you're not far from the truth because what you experience which is truly the meaning of hell is even worse than fire burning you forever and ever that is why today we must do everything within our power to cut off anything that will make us to experience this to give up to take away anything that will be obstacle that will lead us into experiencing hell you know god called us made us to love him to be with him and even the love that we have for god is not even for the good of god it's for our own good because god has nothing to lose or anything to gain whether you love or you don't love he is unchangeable he remains who he is for when we love we love for our own sake so that for love to be authentic for love to be real it has to come from free will if it doesn't come from free will then it was compelled and is not a true love so god has allowed us to choose to love or not to love so to choose to love is to choose god and that is heaven to choose not to love not to love god is to reject god and that is hell hell means the absence of god's presence and why it is so terrifying is that you will not understand this so much unless you think deeper about the nature of us that is spiritual our soul is the part of us that made us so distinguished from animals from other creatures that is where we resemble god more than ever where the life of god exists in any connection to our body so when the soul leaves the body a nun stays without having this presence that it longs for more than anything else that is hell hell is the absence of god the absence of the experience of god to the soul because the soul longs for it and so none of us should ever allow this to happen cut it off anything that will lead you to it cut it off i hand leg whatever and of course you know that these are all representational the eye on its own or the hand on its own does not lead anybody to hell or to sin it is connected with something underneath and that is the mind so if you cut off the hand but you've not dealt with the mind you've not dealt with the heart you have not dealt with sin yet so you have to first of all avoid the occasions of sin so that sin itself will not come in have its way in these parts of your body the way to cut it off in a more practical level could be from the inside of the electronics what information do you get what does it feed what does it give your mind something positive or negative cut it off if it is not inspiring if it is not leading you to what we benefit the soul in eternity cut it off whatever it is i want you to reflect today and find out what is it that has pertained an occasional sin for you it needs to be cut off and then don't become an occasion of sin for others as well because that's what the scripture said today in the gospel if anyone should cause any of these little ones to sin it is better that a new stone is hanged on the head of the person and be thrown in the sea so it is another way of also cutting you off so don't become vocation of sin and don't allow occasion of sin to have its way around you having said this the message of hope today is to tell you do not write yourself off do not write anybody off don't write yourself off and don't write anybody off because in your mind you'll be like well i've been doing everything within my power as i know that so many of us sincerely are doing trying to avoid sin and sometimes it is this heady difficult stubborn scene that is habitual pulling you down every time you work hard one month the next month you fell and sometimes when you fell you felt woefully do not give up don't be afraid to fight on what is so beautiful is if you know that you are fighting a war that has been won for you it inspires you to fight headlong without getting tired so don't write yourself off because god is not done with you yet tell yourself that god isn't done with me yet and dear friends i told myself this because i was not born a priest i was not born a priest sometime in the past i was that guy that guy you know what that means just living your life and doing whatever you want to do but even during the period i always remember that god is not done with me yet and that's that continued to strengthen me until when god has shown what he wants to do with my life so i tell you today don't give up god is not done with you yet okay don't be afraid he is still interested look at the first reading today the spirit went as far as to the camp to possess those in the camp and to use them so that they can prophesy know what the tent means as different from the camp the tent is another name for tabernacle a place of meeting a place of encounter with god so if the holy spirit manifests himself in the tent that is simple and clear to us of course it's not strange if the holy spirit comes here and you begin to maybe speak in tongues or prophesy it wouldn't be strange but supposing the same holy spirit manifests itself himself in your son at home who is lying down on his bed and he begins to prophesy on the bed that's strange but you know these are also representational the tent is the common place that we know the worshipping place but the camp where eldad and murdered found themselves and the rest were complaining the camp was a place of ordinary life activities the day-to-day activities the domestic things that you do your place of work where you study they all constitute the camp the holy spirit can come there as well the holy spirit can use you there so don't make any separation truly there is the extension the tent and the camp are not the same but there is no separation because the power that operates in us can be anywhere without boundary or restriction so the holy spirit works also in your family at home at the office where you study when you do your job that is the camp if you are ready and you open your heart today he comes there he possesses you and he uses you as well so don't split when you come here also open your heart to continue to experience the power of the spirit even the beyond this vicinity of the tent don't write anyone off don't write anyone off yet the spirit is also interested you know what my dear friends there is this flame of the holy spirit that is in every one of us including the person that you think is the worst sinner the spirit has not left the person completely the only difference is that this person has not consciously begun to fan into flame the fire of the spirit that is in him or her that is the difference but you know one day there will be a spark there could be a spark that will make this fire to blow and then this person will be like some of the friends or those that i have made and they'll be like father this is my last the this is my confession for the last 10 years 15 years i've not been to confession and be like huh what brought you how did you come to you that you need to go to confession and the person says nothing i just felt like i should go isn't that miraculous i felt like i should go so that fire just like all of us were baptized when you were baptized you were also born of the spirit the spirit stays there there is an imprint of the spirit the seal of the spirit only anyone baptized and this is a message of hope for you dear parents brothers sisters uncles who have been in prayer for 20 years 25 years praying for this particular son or daughter that you almost given up on do not write him off do not write her up god can still visit him someday sometime when you don't even imagine it in that fire in her we spark off and begin to be in flame higher flame to touch him to on his own or on her own just decide to go to confession and continue in a new life so don't don't write anybody off we are all god is interested in all of us in the gospel today we heard john was complaining to jesus you know what he's very interested is when you read luke chapter 9 where we got this gospel in verse 18 you will hear the disciples of jesus asking him why was it that we were not able to cast out the demon in the little boy who was forming and he was being tormented by the devil so they were frustrated it could be that john was envious of this man who wasn't even an apostle being able to cast a demon and jesus gave this powerful response if anyone is not against us he must be for us you cannot cast out any power of darkness if you are not in union with him this is a message to tell you that even outside the camp that even outside the tent rather god can still spot someone out and use somebody so don't give up on anyone this in any way doesn't mean in different reasons where there is nothing different anybody could come up then and become a priest and celebrate mass it's all the same that's not the message because even in the gospel today if you read further you will see immediately jesus finished rebuking john and telling him that he who is not against us is for us he made this very striking statement anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to christ a man i said to you we surely not lose his reward so there is need to still belong to christ this our lord can be confusing sometimes but you see because that is the spirit of god it is beyond what we can control do not meddle in the affairs of god do not meddle in the face of god when the lord has given us the sacrament that is the ordinary way to receive him and to receive grace but he is he tied in the sacrament is he restricted there not at all he is god he determines the sacrament the sacrament does not determine him and you could operate beyond the sacrament to any one of us wherever we are and that is why you should never never allow yourself to be overthrown by the sin of presumption that's what we saw today from the psalmist he says quench me from my unknown fault my hidden force which is very terrifying and can be the speed way to hell because nobody knows about it and you take it for granted and then it brings and becomes what hebrew chapter 12 verse 1 says one of the sins that comes so easily on us so don't give that a chance and then the sermon is continues from mountain scene one turn means deliberate presumptuous willful from willful sin restrain your servant o lord that is very important so do not presume because you think that it because there is sacrament so you can just go then let me keep slapping on god just like you you tell yourself my friend i can slap my friend and then slap him so many times and then apologize once and for all nobody does like that if you are operating in love if your opportunity love once loved your friend makes you be there and you want to apologize immediately and reconcile you don't wait till you slap him many times that would be an abuse that would be a willful sin presumption don't allow that to live in you because it can be dangerous and deadly but the message for you my dear brothers and sisters which is the message of hope is that the lord is not done with you yet because it's not done with you yet continue to cut off endlessly continue those little things that are needed to be paid attention to pay attention today and allow any string to be tied on you by the enemy and then to hold you until you find yourself in this bad world we don't want to use the hand that is what we must avoid with every strength that we have trusting in the grace of god who is always behind us pushing us with power and strength who is always searching for us even outside the tent even in the camp possessing us and using us to be able to serve him and live with him forever and let us stand to profess our faith i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one word jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for a sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who will the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess warm baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead in the life of the world to come amen in faith we lift up all of our prayers you belong to christ for pope francis bishop luis rafael and all clergy and lay leaders who guide us into greater communion with christ through the life of discipleship that they may be renewed in faith so as to better form us from the heart in the ways of god's kingdom especially all those to be confirmed this week we pray to the lord anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink for our renewal in the spirit of generosity especially to those most in need that it may be a reflection of our lord's blessing to each of us in a better instrument of his love and justice to others we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that the lord might bestow his spirit on the mall for all joining our prayer each week via our live broadcasts that they may know their union with the life of the church at prayer and be strengthened in faith in the power of god's life we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer do not prevent him for all those serving in government for god's wisdom and counsel and its formation within them especially with regard to decisions that reflect upon the dignity of human life and for all our first responders and our military as they carry out their duties in the way of freedom and the gift of peace we pray to the lord prayer the precepts of the lord give joy to the heart that all those who have who have died especially john leto our parishioner who died last week may know his peace mercy for their sins and the fullness of god's kingdom and those in sorrow his peace and for the repose of the soul of susie hiambino for whom this mass is being offered we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer continuing to commend our parish center project to god we pray using the prayer card found in the book rack in front of you in your pew o holy name of jesus above all other names in heaven and on earth you are the glory of the saints the bomb of the sick the love of the devout the consolation of this suffering and the hope of all who aspire to follow you o may jesus be our protector in your health your name may be forever praised as we seek holiness of life as a perish under your patronage guide our endeavors always especially now as we strive to grow in faith and build together facilities dedicated to the honor and glory of your holy name amen god our father hear these are prayers spoken and those known to you in our heart and so refresh our soul from our union with you as and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god you so loved the world that in your mercy you sent us the redeemer to live like us in all things but sin so that you might love us in love in us what you love [Music] by whose obedience we have been restored to those gifts of viewers that by sinning we had lost in disobedience and so lord with all the angels and sins we sun to be certain a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name therefore lord will humbly implore you by the same spirit graciously make holy these gifts we are brought to you for consecration that they may become the body and blood of your son our lord jesus christ at his command we celebrate these mysteries for on the night he was betrayed he himself took bread and giving you thanks he said son and filled with his holy spirit may become one body one spirit in christ may he make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect especially with the most
