how's it going everybody welcome back to another episode of Caswell customs Vinny here and today we are going to be replacing my steering wheel I've wanted to do this for a while just get a nice upgrade but I still want to keep you know the air bag all my factory controls so we're gonna be replacing it with this factory replacement it's got a little bit more ergonomic feel flat bottom it just looks a little bit nice with the red stitching so we're to be swapping those out today so it should be fairly easy project [Music] you guys are looking to do something similar with this same wheel there's a couple different designs some without the red stitching just with some black stitching go ahead and go to CC NorCal comm you can get this for the oh wait 213 it also works for the 2007 and newer model the newer style model for that year or there's also one for the 14 to 18 Silverado and Sierra use discount code Caswell customs and you get an additional 10% off so thanks CC North Cal from hooking us up with that well first things first since we are going to be taking apart part of the airbag you want to make sure that there's no power so I want to just start by disassembling or we're going to start by taking the negative terminal on the battery that way we know that there's no power just a 10 millimeter bolt loosen that up I'm just tuck it away now we won't have any power to the battery and the airbag can't go off so first thing we're gonna be doing is you've got these little holes that are on the side here you're gonna take a small allen wrench or something like that you're gonna go in there and you're gonna find what feels like a little tab you're gonna push on it that's gonna release your airbag so once that's released on this side you're gonna go along to the other side and find that same little tab push on it and that will release your airbag so after we've gotten that lease there's gonna be two plugs on the other side and I'm actually gonna have to go get a little a little pick tool or I might be able to use one of these allen wrenches to go ahead and pull these plastic caps off these little caps off of each of them that way we can go ahead and just disconnect those SiC offers gonna use these little pushes on each side and you're just going to pull those right out just go ahead and set the airbag right there you're gonna want the air back facing up that way that way if the airbag goes off it's not turning into a projectile when it launches the whole bottom half of it go in here there is one more plug there's just a little blue one that you're gonna pop the retaining clip oh you're literally just gonna pop up that little plastic clip in there to get that unplugged so once you've got all your wiring unplugged that's what we're gonna go ahead and break this loose so I'm gonna go ahead and get a socket and ratchet so we can get that broken loose alrighty so we're gonna get a 21 millimeter socket and we're gonna go ahead that loose now we don't want to back it all the way off we have to break the splines loose there we go that way we didn't come yanking it back into our face so you know in my previous video I recently just you know redid the shocks and after I did those shocks I was technically supposed to get in alignment so one of the reasons why I held off on doing is one because of all this kovat 19 stuff going on but another one was was because I'm already replacing the steering wheel this way you know yeah I'm gonna try and get it on here as perfectly centered as possible this way if I'm a little bit off when I go get in alignment they'll correct that at that time so just like that steering wheel pops right out then we go inside and we're gonna show you the process of getting all this plastic onto our new wheel this one so these require a t30 Torx bit [Music] looks like one of those rounds actually plugged onto there that popped off there's that centerpiece then go ahead and unplug these just push down on the tab pull those out and it looks like we're also gonna have to take a torch bit to get all these out so that we can finish getting the rush this wok wiring pulled away so we'll get that and we'll come back undo all those and then all this will come out throw it right into the new one let's get these out it is actually a t15 Torx bit and unscrew track of those you do not want to lose them as the way that sign before you start pulling the plastics out make sure you watch these I just clipped in there should pull right out the other side as well there we go so there's one side out already unplug the other side so there's the other side out oh that's pretty much what it looks like now is going to unwrapped actually I'm not gonna unravel all this wiring what I'm gonna do is this whole plastic back piece has to come off anyways so that's gonna go the backside so don't wander out any of that because it's going to stick exactly where it is you should have to undo these off of the steering wheel and that is going to use a t20 Torx bit this is the factory wheel is obviously surprisingly light so that is one thing as I will say this definitely has a little bit more weight to it but I think that'll be good you don't feel a little bit more kind of sturdy in my hand so this definitely a view but you can see how they are basically identical in their structure just this one just a lot more ergonomic and it's gonna be a lot more comfortable we're going to start with just getting this fitted back in there just like the other one was so make sure our wiring is all situated right spots and we're going to take those exact same screws and pop them in there but you are doing these make sure you don't do them too tight because you know you are just screwing into plastic so you want it in there snug but you don't want it in there too tight you guys are going to strip it off the plastic once you feel it exist just go ahead and give it a little bit more than stop we've got that black piece off so now when I start popping on these plastic pieces so we're going to start just by feeding them around should just pop right into place and we're going to start reattaching everything so first there was that ground plug and those were our two 15 these two at the bottom here I'm gonna hold off on that bottom one till I get the other side just because they actually pop in all at once let's go ahead and just plug right in there pop that in this is that ground needs to be out of the way because it goes to this just keep that up off to the side same thing with this just go pop right in there [Music] and all of our buttons you see there's no power to them but you know they're situated in a good spot and kind of see oh that's all gonna look pretty much the same compared to the factory wheel last thing we're gonna do is pop in this and make sure we take that one ground plug situated go back to our TV alright so as you can see we've got this all put back together everything is plugged in now we're ready to go throw it back on the truck get the air bag popped in get all this plug back in and then are you ready to rock and roll so we'll go see you in the truck so now we're gonna go ahead and pop it back on so we're gonna feed the two air bag plugs back through and then we're just going to slide this on and we're gonna try and match it up to the splines push it on okay so then we'll plug that back in and now we're gonna go ahead and take our nut get it on there pretty snug I know there is a torque spec I did not look it up but that's gonna be pretty tight on there so I'm not super worried go ahead and take our air bag plug it back in make sure we put the plastic clips back on I'm sure they're in the right direction those will lock it in to the other side [Music] all ready to put that back on and boom just like that you've got a new steering wheel so you know I was looking for this because it's got this nice ergonomic positioning I like this red centerline and this nice flat bottom gives me good clearance for my legs so now we'll hook the battery back up start up and take it for a quick Drive all right so you know taking our first drive with the new wheel on and I got to say I love the way it feels feels super good in the hand cruise control function still work once I'm up to 25 cruise control just set go ahead play some music I can change the volume all that stuff skip to the next song so you know all the normal functions are working and I think it just it feels super good in my hand plus I love the way it looks you know having this flat bottom makes this nice clearance space for my legs so you know when I am going faster I need to brake or switch between the pedals it's a good comfortable fluid movement and I you know like I said that the steering wheel felt a little bit heavier and honestly I can feel that little bit of extra weight in the steering wheel and I like it I think it feels good while still feeling super smooth and in the turn position I'm super happy with it I think it hit us turned out absolutely great once again if you guys are interested in doing this to your mo 7 to 13 GMC air or Silverado the link for the steering will be in the description use the promo code Caswell customs and you'll get an additional 10% off your sale that's with CC NORTHCOM so thanks again to those guys for for helping us out with this video you know super awesome of them and thanks for watching I'm Vinny miss kaswell customs [Music]
