spirit amen the grace of our lord jesus christ the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all and with your spirit my dear brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries you were sent to heal the contrite of heart lord have mercy lord have mercy you came to call sinners christ have mercy christ have mercy you are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us lord have mercy lord have mercy may the almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen let us pray grant almighty god through the yearly observances of land may we grow in understanding of the riches hidden in christ and by worthy conduct pursue their effects through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen let us now listen to the word of the lord a reading from the book of deuteronomy moses told the people the priest shall then receive the basket from you and shall set it in front of the altar of the lord your god then you shall declare before the lord your god my father was wandering at a million who went down to egypt with a small household and leave there as an alien but there he became a nation great strong and numerous when the egyptians maltreated and oppressed us imposing hard labor upon us we cried to the lord the god of our fathers and he heard our cry and saw our affliction our toil and our oppression he brought us out of egypt with a strong hand and outstretched arm with terrifying power with signs and wonders and bringing us into this country he gave us this land flowing with milk and honey therefore i have now brought you the first fruits of the products of the soil which you o lord have given me and having set them before the lord your god you shall bow down in his presence then you and your family together with the levite and the aliens who live among you shall make mary answer him i will be with him in distress i will deliver him and glorify him [Music] [Applause] foreign me [Music] a reading from the letter of paul to the romans what does the scripture say the word is near you on your lips and in your heart that is the word of faith which we preach for if you confess with your lips that jesus is lord and believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead you will be saved faith in the heart leads to justification confession on the lips to salvation scripture says no one who believes in him will be put to shame here there is no difference between jew and greek all have the same lord rich in mercy toward all who call upon him everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved the word of the lord thanks be to god let us now honor the holy the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to glory jesus full of the holy spirit returned from the jordan and was led by the spirit to the desert for 40 days where he was tempted by the devil during that time he ate nothing and at the end of it he was hungry the devil said to him if you are the son of god command this stone to turn into bread jesus answered him scripture has it not on bread alone shall man leave then the devil took him up higher and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant he said to him i will give you all this power and the glory of these kingdoms the power has been given to me and i give it to whomever i wish frustrate yourself in homage before me [Music] and it shall all be yours in reply jesus said to him scripture has it you shall do homage to the lord your god him alone shall you adore then the devil led him to jerusalem set him on the parapet of the temple and said to him if you are the son of god slow yourself down from here for scripture has it he will be these angels what's over you and again with their hands they will support you that you may never stumble on a stone jesus said to him in reply it also says you shall not put the lord your god to the test when the devil had finished all this stunting he left him to wait another opportunity the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ good morning my dear brothers and sisters today is the first sunday of land we know that land is our 40 days of reparation before the celebration of the paschal triduum which is the suffering death and resurrection of our lord jesus christ lent reminds us that we need to be contrite of heart feel the sorrow for our sins and return to the lord this is the time for us in order to reconcile ourselves once again to our loving and merciful father my dear brothers and sisters we have heard in the gospel that jesus was tempted by the devil three times and jesus was able to overcome these temptations by using the scriptures let us always remember that every temptation is not only an occasion to sin but every temptation is also an invitation to be holy every time we defeat a temptation we became more like jesus let us always remember that the lord is calling us towards holiness and lent is a time for us to thread that life of holiness in which the lord is calling us and indeed holiness is not freedom from temptation holiness is the power to overcome temptation as i have said earlier every temptation is a chance to become more like jesus there is a greek word for sin and that is i we and so we fall into sin now in order to defeat this temptation life of holiness we off to remember three things first we can defeat temptation by being faithful to our identity as christians as socrates the philosopher will say it is know thyself we must be rooted to who we really are and what is our very identity let us always remember that the temptation of jesus happened after he was baptized in the jordan river there after he was baptized a voice was heard saying you are my beloved son in whom i am well pleased and that is the very identity of jesus he is the beloved son of the father now in baptism all of us have been adopted by god as his children and thus our identity is the same as jesus we are all children of god and we must be listening to the father as well identity not in nato [Music] [Laughter] a family business servants of the church responsibilities and if i may say profession you must always be faithful to that and remember our very identity then we miss the mark we are all god's children we are all his beloved children and we must be faithful to that second it is prayer and the word of god that will help us as we face temptations in life must always give importance to the word of god foreign always do something good relax and we are being invited by the lord to do something good and in the face of temptations with our good intention to do something good and to act upon that good intentions because we are doing something good identity we can always walk along the path of holiness we will never miss the mark let us always remember that holiness is not simply freedom from temptation but it is our very power to overcome temptation and they will always walk on the path of holiness by being faithful to our identity as christians by always remembering that we are children of god and we obey our loving father let us defeat temptation through prayer and giving importance to the word of god reflecting upon it in our daily lives let us fight temptation by doing something good do not bring us into the test but deliver us amen let us now profess our faith i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ his only son our lord who was conceived by the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen in the season of reconciliation and renewal let us pray to god our father that with christ we may win our struggles to be free and to be loyal to god and people let us say lord turn our hearts to you and to people lord turn our hearts to you and to people for the whole people of god that we may strip ourselves of all our guns and power and reveal to the world of today the face of a humble and serving christ let us pray to the lord lord turn our hearts to you and to people for a world that hungers for food and unity that we may share the warmth of love and peace and give access to everyone to a dignified human existence let us pray to the lord lord turn our hearts to you and to people for all christians that we mean at sick a hollow peace in conformism and lack of involvement but that they commit themselves to renew the world in christ let us pray to the lord lord turn our hearts to you and to people for all of us that we may have the honesty to face ourselves and to make the new beginning which we have postponed so long let us pray to the lord lord turn our hearts to you and to people let us pray for our personal intentions and petitions let us also pray for peace between ukraine and russia lord our god we do not ask you to spare us the good of all his holy church give us the right dispositions o lord we pray to make these offerings for with them we celebrate the beginning of this venerable and sacred time through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift off your hearts lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our judy and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord by abstaining 40 long days from earthly food he consecrated through his fast the pattern of our land and observance and by overturning all the snares of the ancient serpent sought as to cast out the living of malice so that celebrating worthily the paschal mystery we might pass over at last to the eternal fascical fists and so by the company of angels and saints as we sing the hymn of your praise without end we acclaim [Music] oh [Music] is [Music] [Music] oh [Music] you are indeed holy oh lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] the mystery of faith [Music] oh good [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have all this worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and then is our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god the blessed apostles and all the saints who have bleed you throughout the ages we may marry to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you so your son jesus christ through him and with him
