Hi welcome back! I'm a donkey and I know it's right when I see the one in front of me ! Today I’m unboxing the 49-inch 32:9 ultra-wide curved screen again! As the QD-OLED solution gradually matures, major screen manufacturers have successively brought their own top-notch QD-OLED ultra-wide curved screens. The one in front of me is the 49-inch 32 that Gigabyte brought to CES 2024 this year: 9 QD-OLED gaming screen This is actually not the first time we have seen it. The first time we saw it was at the Gigabyte CES exhibition. My first thought when I saw it was that although the screen itself has no light pollution and looks simple , This QD-OLED display does not diminish the elegance of the display in the slightest , especially when the lighting at the exhibition venue is slightly dim. Among the entire row of products, this huge QD-OLED is even more transparent and cannot cover up the light of this ultra-wide screen! OK! Without further ado, today I will take you to see the actual display performance data of Gigabyte’s 49-inch QD-OLED monitor . I will also tell you in detail about my experience after using it for about a month and a half . Get ready! So let’s get started~ First of all, let’s start with the appearance. This time we are unboxing the AORUS CO49DQ from Gigabyte. From now on, we will just call it CO49DQ. In terms of appearance design, AORUS CO49DQ adopts an all-black design style, both on the front and back. The back is all black , but the base still uses Gigabyte's very recognizable Eagle Claw base . You can tell it's a Gigabyte screen at a glance, and the installation is quite easy. There is only one small thing to note: there is a green check mark on the box. Check mark OPEN FROM THIS SIDE. Do not open this side to the bottom of the box . After opening the box, first find the base and bracket , and then put them together through the fixing screws at the bottom of the bracket . This screw can be turned by hand. No screws are needed. After the screwdriver is assembled, directly insert the bracket into the slot on the back of the screen. It adopts a spring buckle design and snaps on with a slight press. Even if you want to remove it later, just press the buckle and lift up to remove it. The disassembly and assembly experience is good, simple and easy. By the way , the AORUS CO49DQ uses a QD-OLED panel, which is lighter in weight than the previous ultra-wide screen with Mini LCD backlight . If you are careful, there should be no big problem in installing this unit by one person. The box also comes with two specifications of power cables, one DP and one HDMI. Both cables have the 8K mark on the HDMI . There is also an Ultra High Speed certification sticker directly on the package , which means that it can reach a transmission speed of 48Gbps. There is also a USB transmission cable connected to the computer. By the way, AORUS CO49DQ also supports PIP/PBP. The key feature is that it also has built-in KVM, which can control all devices connected to the screen through a keyboard and mouse . More on that later. Detailed introduction: The box also comes with a simple factory sRGB calibration report. We will wait for a detailed test. This time, in terms of appearance, the AORUS CO49DQ's stand can be adjusted to the left, right and up and down at will. The pitch and tilt height are stepless. The stand design means you can stop at any height you want. The rails are not too tight . You can easily adjust the OSD by holding the upper and lower sides of the middle of the screen. The five-way key button is placed at the bottom of the center of the screen. The back of the position uses a pure black back panel design. Gigabyte used a lot of muscles and lines to outline the neatness of the back panel. However, for gaming, the design is more low-key and simple , but there are still some details. You can vaguely see them from different angles. There is the AORUS Logo in the middle and a rainbow glossy reflective design on the lower side . The slogan TEAM UP FIGHT ON is printed on the top of the small backpack. AORUS CO49DQ also uses a built-in transformer design , so you only need to plug in a power cord to turn on the screen. However, AORUS CO49DQ does not have a specially designed cable routing channel , which is generally designed to pass through the opening below the bracket. Next, let’s look at the I/O connectors of AORUS CO49DQ. All connectors are concentrated on the lower right side of the small backpack. Small details are the connectors. The sticker below the hole also clearly marks the corresponding jack position, so as long as you are familiar with it, you don’t have to lie down to plug in the cable. Just look at the sticker and you should be able to blind plug. There are one 3.5mm headphone jack from left to right. Two HDMI 2.1 HDMI also supports VRR and ALLM One DP 1.4 One USB C jack This jack can be both input and output at the same time. If the USB C jack on your computer supports image output, you can directly support image output through one Use the USB C cable to output the picture to the screen. In the same way, if your mobile phone supports DP Alt Mode or we have also tested Samsung DeX, it can also be successfully executed on AORUS CO49DQ . Just plug it in and process documents directly or use it as another device. It is very convenient to use a small computer or put the mobile phone next to it through PIP or PBP. At the same time, this C hole can also become an Upstreaming Port , that is, transmitting through this C hole and providing 18W PD charging wattage. Then Plug one end of the included cable into a USB connection hole and plug it into the computer at the other end. *You can set the USB C transmission mode in the OSD. The two USB jacks next to it can transmit with the computer. In addition, AORUS CO49DQ is also included. Two 5W speaker OSDs are built. There are also three sound effect modes to choose from. In addition, the surround sound effect can be turned on at the end. It also provides external amplification performance for your reference. So without further ado, we will show you the most important screen performance of Gigabyte. AORUS CO49DQ is still very powerful in terms of screen specifications. It is equipped with a 32:9 5120x1440 , which is a DQHD dual 2K 1800R curvature ultra-wide curved display. The display technology is the currently hot QD-OLED display technology and supports screens up to 144Hz. The refresh rate has a 10-bit color rendering connection and it also supports AMD's FreeSync Premium Pro. Low latency is OLED's consistent strong point. The official GTG response time is 0.03ms. It also has VESA DisplayHDR TRUE BLACK 400 certification . People are buying screens these days. You must have often heard about QD-OLED QD-OLED? So what exactly is QD-OLED ? Here we will also give you a brief review. If you want to explain clearly what QD-OLED is, I think we should first talk about the current situation. Commercially available mainstream products How do OLED and Mini LED backlights, the two top display technology camps, work? Let’s first talk about what Mini LED is. Simply put, the essence of Mini LED is that behind the display technology of LCD backlight, there needs to be a light source to light up the entire panel. Mini LED is the light source at the back. It is also the latest and most powerful technology that can light up the panel. The strongest reason is that the size of each Mini LED lamp bead is much smaller than that of a traditional LED module . Therefore, in the same area, more lamp beads can be inserted behind the Mini LED screen and the number of lamp beads increases. Looking at our picture, it is very clear that the more light control partitions can be achieved , and the more partitions, the more delicate the light and shadow changes can be presented . One of the advantages of Mini LED is that the brightness performance is very strong, while the OLED camp The most common practice on computer screens now is the QD-OLED panel that was officially mass-produced last year. Here we need to clarify one issue first: QD-OLED is different from OLED or AMOLED on mobile phones. OLED on mobile phones is directly composed of RGB pixels. It looks like this under a microscope. However, when changing from a 6-inch mobile phone to producing a 49-inch or larger screen, it is difficult to balance the yield , so WOLED or the latest MLA and QD-OLED appear , which are more biased. OLED backlight display technology QD-OLED. The QD in front stands for Quantum Dot. It has a more familiar name called quantum dot technology. Through this technology , it can achieve higher brightness and better color rendering effect at the same time , so let’s focus on it. The working principle of QD-OLED is roughly like this. The light source behind the QD-OLED is changed from LED lamp beads to a whole blue OLED panel , and the front is covered with a QD coating . When the blue OLED at the back lights up, It can excite the QD layer to produce red and green wavelengths of color blue. This can solve the problems of yield, brightness and color rendering at the same time . The essence of QD-OLED is still OLED, so when the screen displays black, it It can achieve true full black. If Mini LED has a backlight of 2000-3000 partitions, then Gigabyte's QD-OLED screen has a 5120x1440 , which is a backlight of more than 7 million partitions. Therefore, OLED can also easily present light and dark contrast, and it will be better to the naked eye. Compared with Mini LED QD-OLED, the transparent and bright visual experience does not have obvious edge halo problems . However, because the upper cover still has a small refraction , there will still be a slight halo , but compared with Mini LED In comparison , this is nothing. In addition, the QD-OLED panel currently has a slightly grayer feel when the screen is turned off instead of a completely black panel. However, the blackening process of Gigabyte's is actually OK. When the screen is turned on, it should be difficult. After noticing it, we went straight to the screen measurement without any nonsense. This time AORUS CO49DQ provides a total of 10 display modes in the OSD. I listed them on the screen for your reference. Next, we entered the actual measurement in the native color gamut mode. The following is basically a performance that fully supports the color gamut coverage. After our actual measurement, it can reach 100% of sRGB, 96.9% of Adobe RGB, 99% of DCI-P3 and 81.5% of BT. In 2020, this color gamut coverage is really top-notch. If you want to know, the Ratio performance is about 154.3% of sRGB and 113.7% of P3 CCT. The measured Delta E is about 6461K. The measured Delta E is about 1.0091. It is very, very accurate . There is nothing to say about the ultimate performance of the panel. The more special one is AORUS CO49DQ. Although there is no independent P3 or Adobe RGB display mode , the OSD also provides two color gamut setting options of DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB. So if you want to use it for creation, we will also help you test it first . Let’s test the sRGB mode. After our actual testing, AORUS CO49DQ can reach 95% of the sRGB color gamut coverage in the sRGB mode. CCT reaches 6553K. CCT Delta E is only 0.03 . It is very, very, very accurate . This number is less than 2, which means it is accurate enough. It means less than 1, which is excellent. It means 0.03. You can feel it for yourself. However, the average color Delta E is only 2.52, which is less than 2. The main reason is that the blue shrinkage is a bit too large . If we switch to Adobe RGB mode, it can reach 90.5% at this time. The measured CCT Delta E of the Adobe RGB color gamut coverage is 0.05 , but the average color Delta E is 2.97, which means that the color gamut option of AORUS CO49DQ should only be correspondingly limited and not specifically corrected . In terms of viewing angle, the measured results are also directly provided here. For your reference, we have also connected several devices through the included cables. The measured connection specifications are firstly connected to the Windows host through DP 1.4, which can reach up to 5120 x 1440 144Hz 10-bit display specifications. Then through HDMI 2.1 cables When connected to a Windows host, the display specification can reach up to 5120 x 1440 144Hz 12-bit, and then connected to the XBOX Series In any mode, the video specification can reach up to 4K 120Hz. It also supports HDR10, VRR and automatic low latency. Then, when connected to the PS5 console through an HDMI 2.1 cable, the video specification can reach up to 4K 120Hz. It also supports VRR and ALLM. Bonnie is here to help you. The measured brightness performance shows that the brightness of a full white screen under HDR can reach 282 nits under 50% area, 333 nits under about 25% area, close to 400 nits under 4.5% area, and can reach about 890 nits under 2% area. The peak value can exceed 1100 nits. Next, we also list the actual measurement results under SDR for your reference. Overall , AORUS CO49DQ is the current standard performance of QD-OLED, with a full white screen and a brightness of about 300 nits, which is suitable for general creation and games. It is enough for the key QD-OLED technology Compared with LCD, it has the characteristics of black and non-luminous, which makes it more comfortable in such more complicated and high-contrast scenes. In addition, AORUS CO49DQ also has the functions of PIP and PBP. PIP means picture-in-picture, and you can see it after turning it on. 32:9 is from the computer and the PIP window in the upper left corner is from PS5. You can also adjust the size and placement of the signal source window through the OSD, switch audio sources, etc. PBP means side-by-side screens. For example, the one on the left is the Windows desktop. The PS5 is connected to the right side of the machine and can also be switched through the OSD. It is worth mentioning that the AORUS CO49DQ also has a useful KVM function. If you have two computers at the same time, you can connect the computer on the left through HDMI or DP cables. The second computer on the right is connected to the screen via high-speed USB C. Then you connect the keyboard and mouse to the USB port on the back of the screen . Then you will find that the keyboard and mouse can now control the computer on the left, right ? Press the KVM switch button on the OSD and the screen will automatically switch to the computer on the right. Now the key point is that the keyboard and mouse can also directly control the computer on the right. KVM means that a set of keyboard and mouse can directly switch between two different devices. It should be noted that KVM cannot be turned on under PIP and PBP. You can only switch between two full screens. But look at this picture. The greatest value of this 32:9 ultra-wide screen is that it can reach two 27-inch screens. The focus of the display area is to seamlessly combine two 2K 144Hz screens. This is why the 32:9 screen is not only used for playing games , but also a dream item for many editors and image creators. In terms of my own workflow, AORUS CO49DQ is the largest The advantage is still this 32:9 ultra-wide screen. For image creation, dual screens are really the basic operation. Compared with the dual screen, the 32:9 screen lacks the middle screen border. What is the difference in Premiere if the screen border is missing? Or After Effect, the most important components of this kind of image creation software are probably the three areas of the editing track preview screen and various control panels . If it is a dual screen in the past, your track will be limited to the 16:9 frame. But who knows how to use it in a large project? The track length is really not long enough , so under 32:9 you will not be restricted by the borders and can arrange the tracks and all panels very freely in the entire workspace . I think it is on the screen. This kind of arrangement setting is also suitable for environments where you need to frequently operate among a bunch of screens, such as making AE animations or doing large-scale stock trading, writing reports, and organizing data. Anyway, as long as you only need to work with many windows, the 32:9 screen is really nice. I can’t say enough about how easy it is to use, but my honest advice is to pay attention to the depth of the desktop before buying it because this model has a curvature of 1800R, so the advantage of the curved surface is that as long as the distance is correct, you almost don’t have to turn your head all the time , as long as it is fixed in one position . My own suggestion for operating the entire screen is that it is better if it is at least 75-80 centimeters deep. Needless to say, when playing games, 32:9 and OLED are the strengths , and I personally feel that OLED is good for playing some fast-paced FPS games , especially if you are used to it. Friends who shoot guns will feel less dizzy than VA. Personal experience is for reference only. Here we also show the screen of Forza 5 for your reference. Then we will look at Cyberpunk 2077. I also remind everyone that although this is a 32:9 screen , it is still recommended. Everyone chooses the most comfortable ratio of 16:9, 21:9 and 32:9 according to the type of game . Finally, let’s talk about Gigabyte. This screen also has the function of OLED CARE. More practically, you can see OLED CARE in the OSD. Among the options, there is a function that provides anti-burning cleaning, that is, pixel rearrangement. The system will also automatically dim the static image that remains unchanged, and also have automatic pixel shifting, etc. In terms of game assistance functions, there is also a Game Assist option in the OSD that can open games and What everyone is more concerned about in the system information OSD is that there are a total of four styles of the aiming assist function. They are all in 2024. Don’t use the strange pen to draw crosses on the screen. By the way, this screen can also be connected to the computer through a USB cable. Later , the GIGABYTE CONTROL CENTER was used to directly adjust and control the screen setting options to replace the OSD function. Currently, the functions are complete enough and more intuitive and smooth compared to the joystick. Overall, the display effect of GIGABYTE AORUS CO49DQ is stable. Stable high-end QD-OLED performance , especially in color gamut coverage, is very strong. However, we hope that in the future, GIGABYTE can directly build in DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB’s built-in color correction profile on the QD-OLED series . For creators It will be more convenient and practical , but the display effect is definitely satisfactory. After our calibration, the actual measured Delta E < 1 is not a problem at all , and the peripheral specifications are also what they should be. There are two HDMI 2.1 jacks and one DP 1.4 . There is a USB C. It is practical enough. The key point is that it also has built-in KVM. However, it is currently unable to switch KVM under PBP . It is a pity and the performance of the two built-in 5W speakers is better than expected. Finally, as usual, let me talk about my three CO49DQ The first thing that impresses me and what I look forward to is that the installation is simple and the experience is very good. One person can complete the buckle and slide rail. The buckle and slide rail are smooth enough . The corresponding current CO49DQ feels a bit too low-key . Maybe adding RGB backlight is also a good choice. The second and third ones I think can be combined together. Both of them are more biased towards solutions. I am looking forward to the market having DUHD , that is, dual 4K OLED solutions as soon as possible . The last one is that the current update rate is 144Hz . You can also upgrade to the 240Hz solution ! In this episode, we also tried our best to test as much data and experience as possible in the limited time. If you have any questions or what we didn’t test, please leave a message below to discuss!
