hi I'm Becky and I'm here to persuade you to adopt a new cat litter lifestyle because I am basically gwyneth paltrow with cat poop growing up my family had as many as seven indoor cats at one time so I like to think I'm a bit of a litter expert recently I went a year and a half without having any cats because I am allergic to them but two months ago I did adopt two new cats Queenie and Maui and because I was starting from scratch I researched how best to take care of them and I found out that you're probably doing your litter all wrong for no reason my new litter system is easier more pleasant to do more ethical and it's cheaper so stay tuned and I'll show you how all right point number one clay litter sucks you already know this well you might not have known is that clay litter is mined from the earth and it's a finite resource the clay litter you use will end up in a landfill and that's all on top of the fact that the user experience of clay litter sucks is it actually clumping is there dust everywhere including in your face and the cats track it everywhere it's incredibly difficult to clean especially if you're a city dweller so what's the alternative Pyne letter or wood pellets the thing about pine letter though is that it requires some education to learn how to use it when you're used to using clay litter but don't worry that's what I'm here for not only are wood pellets a renewable resource because they come from trees but they actually come from the waste product of lumber mills they're sawdust that's heated and extruded into these little pellets that expand back into sawdust when they get wet pine litter is compostable and they smell really good I don't know if you like the smell of a wood shop or a lumber yard but it smells just like that but what about the user experience so the important thing to know about the user experience of pine litter is that you should use a sifting litter box I used to litter boxes because Jackson galaxy told me to one of which I made myself and one of which I sourced on Amazon both of them work well the one I sourced on Amazon cost about 16 dollars and I'll link it below and it comes with three pans stacked on top of each other one of which is the sifting pan the litter box I made myself I made out of two livestock feed pans because I wanted a round litter box because aesthetics that a friend and I drilled holes into to create a sifting pan on top the Amazon litter box works perfectly fine and is very convenient but I do like that my homemade litter box has some dead space in between the top and bottom pan to allow the sawdust to sieve into but onto the sifting obviously whatever your cat takes a dump you'll want to scoop the poo off the top of the litter I've heard some cats that are used to clay litter won't naturally cover their poops with the pine pellets at least at first but my cats are very fastidious and I never had that problem myself so once a day I go through the litter and I scoop out the poops and you'll see that wherever they've peed the pine pellets have turned into sawdust then what I do is I just shake the pan until the sawdust falls through to the bottom pan when I use the litter box from Amazon I need to lift up the top pan a little bit to create some dead space in between the top and bottom pans to then sift into and then most the time you're done that's it but about two or three times a week you will want to empty out the bottom pan if you're wondering if the sawdust that zips down smells bad because it's full of pee it does not smell bad at all it still just smells like lumber if there are any clumps of sawdust on the bottom it literally only takes a paper towel to break it up and then you're done and once you're done with that you can top up the litter box with any additional pellets and then you're done it might sound too good to be true but this is actually how easy it is and now we'll get to the best part which is the fact that pine litter is much cheaper than clay litter you do not need to be spending so much money on litter I promise you pine letter comes in pet stores for about ten to fourteen dollars for twenty pounds but I have a trick for you if you can get to a hardware store or a farm supply store and you can find wood pellets that are either for burning in a wood pellet stove or something called equine bedding literally for filling a horse stable with you can get the same exact pine litter for five dollars for forty pounds that means you'd spend about twenty dollars a year on cat litter why aren't we all doing this I don't know but that's why I created this YouTube video to recap pine litter is easier it's a more pleasant experience it's more ethical and it's cheaper there's no reason for you to be using clay litter stop using clay litter that's it the end I hope this was useful for you if it was hit like and maybe subscribe to my channel and if you'd like more tips about being a cat parent leave a comment below and let me know now let's get back to the whole reason why we clean poop everyday which is the companionship of these wonderful little beasts thanks
