Yellowstone Bison

some of the animals in Yellowstone are so small like this chipmunk and some are huge like this female moose that weighs over 800 pounds and is taller than me some are very cute but these otters playing in the Snake River and some are very shy like these pronghorn antelope out on the vast plains of Yellowstone and some of the animals are quite active like this young elk for moving the velvet from its antlers but the biggest of these mammals in Yellowstone and all of North America is the Bison the American Buffalo used to live all across North America and huge herds and the Yellowstone herd is one of the last remaining genetically pure bison herds left on earth these are huge animals the adult males weigh more than a ton and to see that walking is heard through the sagebrush Yellowstone is such a powerful site visiting Yellowstone is like being on safari the animals are everywhere [Music] so I'm stuck in traffic in Yellowstone National Park there's about a hundred cars in front of me that's because there's about 300 Buffalo trying to cross the road it's a bison traffic jam and it's awesome having to brake for an American bison an animals so big it could roll your car for one or two is something that I think every American should experience now a lot of visitors got out of their cars you got as closest ly good to the animals but they're crazy I prefer the safety of my car it is like being on safari these are wild animals they're beautiful but they're wild and therefore potentially dangerous [Music] look at the size of this [Music] bison live in herds and nice late summer months the males are often fighting one another for mates [Music] calves are born in a spring sometimes as early as April and they are wonderfully cute animals they have a lighter tone almost an orange gold color and they're weaned after about six months of living with their mothers a newborn calf only weighs about 50 pounds and they frolic quite literally they frolic there's so much fun to watch it was hard for me to look at this little cute animal and think some day would grow up to be a big hairy powerful Beast the Bison is probably the most American animal out there and as an American I was very proud to see it alive and well thriving in its natural habitat these are truly magnificent creatures [Music]
