right around 2005 you were on the UPN reality series The Road of stardom with Missy Elliot um and then you end up getting eliminated from the show and after that you came out with your first uh you know independent album creekwater no like the the road to stardom thing was just got word that there was an audition for next hip-hop Superstar right in Atlanta so I took my bars up there and stood in line and performed in front of the the the the judges or whatever and I made a cut cut cut made the cut made the cut in New York and then I got on the show and it was like being Hoodwinked you know what I mean like there was like a they were feeding us terrible just reality show [ __ ] situations and I I I just wasn't with it uh and then finally they gave me some track some some beat that they said Dallas Austin made I didn't believe it it was terrible so I called him out about it at dinner and in front of Missy and so uh yeah so they kicked me off the show that next episode just cuz they just knew I wasn't going I just wasn't going for it I wasn't all um but I'm the only person to come up out of that for sure you know uh but yeah okay it was a those those producers I saw them I was with with bust the rhs in La uh for some like Rel for some party for that show and uh he picked me up and hugged me I love [ __ ] love you dog love you dog you know giving me all the love and [ __ ] and the producers walked over and um and they're like we're so sorry and I knew what they did you know they they they they took an audio of my vocal performance with the beat and they shifted it so I would be offbeat and said I didn't have rhythm and I I wasn't the guy or whatever which is impossible for me to wrap off be literally impossible like I I couldn't make myself rap off beat like so they apologized it's all good and you know that's just a part of my story so yeah I came back to gadston with something to prove I felt like but I still hadn't found my voice to be honest I haven't even cracked that monotone thing that I would that I was afraid to be too pitchy I was afraid some comparison to Marshall I was afraid to be just to basically to snap so I um you know I got on my NPC 2000 and wrote and produce Creek Water and um yet again man just like a failed a failed attempt really my boy rest in peace Wayne Bush gave me money to press 5,000 copies which is a [ __ ] lot you don't even understand how much that that's a lot when you're looking at pallets of CDs and Jewel Jewel case CDs the big ones and um trying to push those on the streets in gon and Birmingham Alabama forget it it it wasn't it wasn't what it needed to be uh was too heady too monotone and uh I still had a lot of proven grounds in the streets before I was going to be let in anyway so went and figured it out okay so you came out with Creek water in 2005 like you said it didn't really do a lot and then you put out a mixtape pissing in a barrel of bees didn't do a lot it didn't do anything let's be blunt didn't do anything it didn't move the needle okay at all yeah yeah no listen as someone who used to press up you know mixtes mix CDs yes 5,000 is a lot I fully understand how crazy of an amount that is especially if you don't have a track r have already selling so yeah you really kind of threw it all on the table and unfortunately didn't work out but it's just part of your story yeah like I had already like you done music with willpower and and you know press I pressed up a thousand and I slang a thousand out the trunk by myself you know like literally just drove around just if if it was Hood enough I would pull up in the gas station and you know hustle so 5,000 was a lot but yeah um yeah that was you know piece of it part of it okay and then your mixtape pisson a barrel bees came out and did that move the needle at all or not really that was after uh it moved the artistically it did for me because like I I cracked a that that voice you know my voice started to come together and what I was talking about and at the time I was living at a trailer park in Huntsville Grace Atlanta States trailer park in Huntsville abama and the studio was like a couple streets over in this guy's house named Jim and Jim owned a mattress company called mattr Mattress Express and I worked for his company during the day and recorded at his spot at night and uh yeah that's that's where I found a new a new level you know a new level of something I don't know did it move the needle nah hell no I had to it it wasn't until I went to Atlanta you know and I recorded I recorded records off of off of pin Barrel that was just like mixtape like exercise you know like again like Shadow Boxing um off the Record though I stumbled upon this concept uh it was just like everything everything just kind of [ __ ] like came together you know and I wrote this record called white white boy from Alabama and I just kept it so insanely literal about my situation and where I was at and who I was who my family was you know what I mean like where I was really really from and being Shameless about everything you know what I mean and I knew that I had to take that idea and that personality and go to Atlanta cuz I had connections in Atlanta already and GP PL rest in peace uh he let me come live with him and his mom and I slept on his couch and got a job at Bulldog Movers and and then started hitting underground scene in Atlanta um and that that's that's where more of the development started to happen okay cuz in 2007 which is two years after you dropped that that album mixtape you end up getting signed to Columbia Records yeah that was that was this before or after Atlanta uh well I went to I went to Atlanta and hooked up with uh Escape Zilla somehow I think it was through wit doctor I don't know witch doctor from uh Dungeon Family and um ended up with scape Zilla and wri in this record called Kicking and I had already I knew I knew at that point exactly what I needed to be what I needed to look like what I needed to talk about how I need to talk about it you know RC Cola mesh hats you know taking photo with catfish off a chain like in front of a box Chevy I I had it mapped out and I knew what my character was and and how I was going to present and represent where I was from and um so we stumbled upon that record kicking and we were already raising hell around the underground with uh [ __ ] awesome and you know we pulling up to shows like I was I was I was leading the pack you know like pulling up and like mossio jumpsuits with bright orange beanies and throwing fish and lures into the crowd and like like just taking it there you know what I mean like being fully out there with it cuz it was working I could see it clicking and um So Courtney seals and Kanan Prather alongside my homie jayt Jones who was my manager at the time uh they pulled me they pulled me out of a show well after a show when one time in Atlanta and uh I performed right in front of uh kanwan Prather in like a dance studio it was just me I had a big deer like like my homie was wearing this big deer costume and I was wearing like M Oak and you know I had the whole thing down and I did kick in and I covered uh uh Paul Riv with My Own lyrics and I was throwing fish in lures and [ __ ] all over the the room and KP was like I'm in so yeah we went up to uh went up to New York and Inked a deal with Colombia through uh ghetto vision
