New York and on the new odd 97 have Ebro in the morning he brothers morning Lord Stiles s Rosenberg in this gentleman is YB a court game last time he was here who's what is compadre yeah yeah yeah well not compadres the other YB ins yeah yeah for sure oh my TJ oh yeah I've never met Amir oh man nice guy yeah good guy but guess what this guy's got an album out right before out more Apple music right now somber well I don't I think it's number three on Spotify really no I just said that to try to one-up out oh you don't ever check you're not curious you know now cuz no I don't really care it to be honest you know what I'm saying I'll really care about first week numbers I'm just more worried more so worried about impact you know what I'm saying yeah and just a long-term you know what I'm saying I'm not in it cuz [ __ ] have like the number one album for a week and then nobody cares about it two weeks later you know my [ __ ] is just gonna keep spreading word of mouth it's gonna hit number one soon you know I'm saying maybe not till a month after the project's out but you know I'm just worried about that steady growth because good music always gonna spread you know what I'm saying so you you've been on it very since the very beginning you were the bars guy of you know you were the bars guy of ybm yeah yeah we're gonna keep everyone focused and kind of that's that's what you kind of brought to the crew and then it seems like you've really stayed true to that and it's worked for you oh yeah for sure like do you feel that people have a tendency to come out and they're like oh what's the commercial thing gonna be why did you decide I'm just gonna be the guy who cares about bars and rapping that's just gonna be my thing uh I care more so about making good music you know what I'm saying like I felt like as far as bars and I came in like just proving I can rap you know what I'm saying that I have bars so my thing just incorporate that into making music cuz it's a lot of cats who got bars but don't make them use it you know what I'm saying so my thing was just making good music and coming to this project the Lost Boy making a cohesive body of work that you can play from beginning to end it with no skips you know I will say musically this project is very for a first project it's incredible oh thank you man and maybe we should cut yeah I think you know I've had to adjust how I approach new artists yeah over the last several years mm-hmm because so many artists we meet them when they're just learning how to rap like yeah and then we meet them six months later because they're the most talked about trending thing on social media but they don't know how to make music and they don't know the fact that whoever you know whoever I don't really know the people you're involved with yeah but the fact that they got you to actually you know sign up to make great music yeah a good time you know work with certain people yeah that was really me like I executive-produced like my whole project I came up with all this new [ __ ] no no I'm not going man I made it I came up not but I came up with the entire sequence by myself you know I did all this myself you know I had obviously I had you know producers you know what I'm saying making a beach bar was really like sitting there hands-on with the production like calling in a bass player to add some more soul that is calling in strings calling in somebody to add a guitar and telling them exactly like what to play you know walking through it step by step saying what the producers like Oh add a drum roll here add a drop here like I really sat down with the production on every song like step by step like every song we took like a month on just just added the production you know what I'm saying so like I really like made it a point to just make a cohesive body of work everything that is this one big storyline you know every song kind of piggybacks off the song before it you know is so uh yeah and where did you where did you learn that was that something that like when did you really start listening to hip-hop or whatever music you came up listening to in that way to understand what was going into each project uh it took a lot of uh you know just me cuz I'm just a student you know what I'm saying I just did the education I did my research on music that goes into whatever field you're in I'm sure you got you guys are a path to your 10,000 hours you know and in your craft but before you got to the point you are at y'all work I'm sure at one point y'all are interns you know y'all did the education you know y'all had to study our predecessors so I feel like in music we got to do the same you got to apply the same thing and what a craft you want you know so I did that and I you know work with a bunch of like you know real musical Cats you know what I'm saying like you know shut out key culture there's like sixteen year old cat on the production he did a lot of that [ __ ] you know Bongo Terrace Martin I was working with a lot of jazz folks Herbie Hancock you know what I'm saying just just taking a Ashley name-dropping Herbie Hancock yeah I mean I'm just um I'm just talk my model not I'm just talking about my life and just is the blueprint has been laid you know to the create good album so you know to be a who created the blueprint I mean Jays I mean little I mean jay-z the blueprint you know it's the blueprint yeah yeah but it's so many blueprints you know you got jay-z you got Kendrick make great cohesive body of work bodies at work [ __ ] Kanye West is like the best album maker you know you think Kanye is the best album maker of all time oh I don't I don't I can't say that don't misquote me on that but he makes great a [ __ ] got five undeniable most uh great albums you know I might have more great albums than any other solo artist of all time and that's a in hip hop yeah many pop yeah although it's hard to do five I mean your first five all in just straight no misses and then the sixth one is my is a watch the throne you know a collab on with jay-z you know what I'm saying but it's a lot of artists with like I'm sure whole has five classics a blueprint reasonable doubt black album good is four four four classic it's up there it made it add a crazy impact it's been a couple years so it's easy to call that song for song in line for hard-knock life volume two yeah and I'm classify are you going to a classic now go back and forth on those off the top I don't consider anything in my lifetimes classics but one has a lot of [ __ ] but I'm saying look at me but then it gets to I know what girls like and I'm like you just Wow what'd you just do black that song I know I know you can't talk in New York I've had to learn there certain things like like here I don't want to say too that they think the city is mine is like a really good record but like in the rest of the world in society we were all like what is he doing yeah why are you why are you sampling you belong to the streets this is trash but in New York at the time sunshine yes I know what girls like no sunshine god I love sunshine that's that's my kill me why Wow but the point is hmm home has a lot of good albums Sukanya has maybe the most they you know but it's those are good guys to learn the blueprint from yeah of course yeah bro illmatic it was written super slept on godson Stillmatic The Lost Tapes one becomes almost like I don't want to change this whole interview yeah yeah yeah The Lost Tapes things the loss if I like lost age to people like they're both good but NAS and albums I always think is a there's a couple good albums I hope people do a really high standard you know look you just gave me as a meme all day he was just like I was he was like been perfect so far though basically like to pimp a butterfly well does to music oh yeah for sure yeah cuz that does that's my personal fave you know I'm saying once you put in I think Eminem will respect that yeah well and some people always because it's an emotional connection right how you connect to the muse yeah yeah mm but Eminem is I got all Eminem's albums on my you know my phone that's that's that's real life Slim Shady LP I got the infinite oh my [ __ ] you know what I'm saying all the time yeah yeah first three that are really yeah Marshall Mathers LP you know so yeah but I just I just had to go like my personal faith you know once you count in you know all the accolades obviously you got a mm as top five you know skill wise image top five as well but just at that time being that's just what I was listening to the most what's the old-school thing you spent like any time listening like have you ever gone back to the late 80s and spent a lot of time there not really getting me oh yeah yeah yeah let me see yeah why Kim Kool G Rap okay uh Big Daddy Kane not so much Big Daddy Kane um could Jedi Mind Tricks okay that's very random yeah Kool G Rap YouTube's recommended section they feel pretty good actually bro you in a good place yeah for sure like you know my uh you know my folks always play hip-hop and then I go back you know listen to it I'm going down yeah yeah for sure they listen to a lot of knives jay-z a lot of Eminem you know these the the parables I grew up on and POC and Biggie obvious and parables tronky would strike acknowledge no you don't mean that he bright I want you finish your album right before you turn it in who is your go-to person to take up one smooth listen to it and someone who's critique you value really high I don't really go to I not the sound I just I don't try to like take in outside opinions too much you know because it's uh I'm overthinking and I overanalyze you know what I'm saying so I don't try to like you know I'll play it but I'll just be like I don't even when I'm in the studio what and mainly I I keep my mind my inner circle just in a studio that said me my engineer and like my right hand and outside of that really I don't really take in too many opinions cuz I'm gonna overanalyze what something uh I don't really like these these snares and I'll be thinking like them do I not like I love the snares for three days straight but because is one guy said he don't like I'm like damn do I should change the snares try yeah yeah you know versus if any nobody told me just going with my gut and my intuition so there's not a person in your circle that like when you're done with a project you're like look I love where it's at you know make the call here finish this or you know cuz some artists they can't finish right like I've seen this with many artists like you were saying somebody may say the snares is wack you don't sometimes take a step away and let somebody else take your voice your persona in your words and create nah not with this one at all not with this one and I was hands-on I was in the studio even with the production I am in there the whole time for everything you know would you would you ever who's the producer that you would be like look I just want a rat yeah you do everything else who's that producing it'll be between kid Bongo and a trip between those those like the main three producers on my project so so you would let them take control you just be I want to rap y'all bring me the songs I just wanna do the lyrics not taking I'll just let them add their own thing and then I can go back and still be like okay I like this take this out I like this take this out let's add this so you're not quite there yet where you would let a I'm trying to think of somebody I don't know Pete Rock or Pharrell for Pharrell what I want to do your whole album you just wrap let me do everything else uh you know I'll be with it but I want to have a you know I say so I am you know that just that's you know I just that's just what I've what I like but I feel comfortable we I don't want to step out you know I step outside my comfort zone like musically but just like I won't feel as good about it about it or as attached to it you know I'm not in the studio with Drake because I'm assuming you have Dre records that we have heard in in archives Dre got him but buried records yeah yeah but when when we when you with Dre that's that's just that's a whole nother Hancock his truth man yeah when you would Dre you know I'm saying you just got nothing I'm saying like we want to laugh with Dre you just listen and just soak up the game the knowledge you know what I'm saying he just got so much knowledge that's to God right there so yeah this is levels you know I'm saying with Dre oh okay yeah I'll say like this how do you want me to say right always have you guys done together listen we got some joints in archives you think they'll ever see the land a guy acts Dre we'll see whatever the guy want to do it man I'm just blessed you know that's a road I saw the dragon I believe that picture when I saw it I never still never measuring mmm really never met Dre come ons right he may be the only living he knows guaranteed he knows who you are I hope definitely lunch what you do he thinks oh man Trey's a hip hop fan never met in my life I never seen him he's like a ghost had you never seen him before you met him had you know Oh what do you mean seen him in LA around had you oh no of course not right you saw when you met him that was there like you don't see him a random parties a messy Jimmy I've seen everyone else that you could see um a homeboy who runs Hera stuff who created J Records you Clive you see Clive out you see everybody out you don't see Dre Dre don't really like people unless right you know I'm saying even if she go to the gym together exactly put in that work I think you keep up with drainage oh no definitely not in fact I wouldn't even want to do that I'd be like nah fam I'm good I don't yeah yeah we're trying to lift with him no y'all man that he's in way better shape than NBA athletes man it's not normal yeah yeah he's kind of a robot in that regard it's crazy so on this project the lost boy you got Meek Mill you got Pusha T great features a chance the rapper no yeah no you didn't OD yeah with your features why cuz this is my [ __ ] you know what I'm saying and so I just wanted artist that one I'm a fan of but today they add they add their own flavor to it they add to the record a lot of people they just add artist just to add their clout to the record you don't saying I want them to add their artistry to it like I felt like every feature was just perfectly placed like that was the song for them like the general Anderson was perfect you know I love how you guys unveiled that - that was that shot like his dressing room so now it was shot and like that that the the apple beats one studio that was shot and then your [ __ ] yes my studio yeah yeah literally before I think we did it like the night before you like your very first podcast moved weed in my studio him Jim Jones and it's a prize I just we had just got a new Stewart's not mine it's apples but clearly it's mine every day you walk in on the first day it's brand new it smells like [ __ ] weed I might we just got this that doesn't even make sense bro yeah you're confused you're like oh how do you reckon he bros walking all excited I finally work for a legitimate company I don't know my phones are you working this [ __ ] man poor people smoke away oh that's pretty fun though I just got somebody in trouble ebrill dry snitching galore it was coordinated for um that song was made out of that studio man you know that's exactly is it history no I'm a fan I'd say I'm a fan you know I don't you don't remember things like this I told you yes you did when ybn came out and he was like what is this ybn [ __ ] I was the young but what is this damn your own boss [ __ ] oh yeah I said what when I said I'm not sure how you'll feel about everything I said but Corday this is for us this music I'm trying to text him like hey bro when you did the J Cole record it was so ironic too because that record which was kind of taking shots at old heads for hating mm if you were an old head who paid attention yeah you'd be like the irony is this guy's talking to heaven oh yeah but in the song it was so like thoughtful well yeah and also like yo y'all supposed to be making sure we know what the dope [ __ ] is stop trying to criticize us for trying to advance the hip-hop for sure you know what I mean I took it I was like yo y'all supposed to be on your game making sure we know the dope [ __ ] yeah if you don't like what's going on it's your fault yeah pretty much I was a narrative by just to create the UH just give a the point of that John was just basically just to give an alternative perspective you know what I'm saying just okay you make a lot of good points with just include these factors in here as well you know I thought Cole would be on this project do you guys discuss it mm-hmm just he's on a production side I wanted to beat I feel like that's a lot more rare Pete did he do uh he did the Joe Henderson pack oh he did oh rich [ __ ] problem yeah yeah we did that be yeah yeah yeah that's fire but I was a nice twist yeah yo you really do think he does thoughtful do you like that don't you I feel like ice I'm not rolling I saw a headline that you have a famous girlfriend true uh maybe maybe it's a tennis player oh they all know soccer is in the omiyo sighs yeah yeah that's my girl that's fight don't make me that guy I had a Clippers game I know right you were both on celebrity row like down on the floor oh now it was both the nosebleeds 3:19 together yeah get nachos yeah he was in like Row 5 or something he wasn't on the floor floor but she was right there nosebleeds man wait city used to approach her though uh I got introduced one of those things oh no man you know uh what I do yeah tennis man uh nah I didn't even like know who she was oh really you were just hollering to holler yeah yeah oh you saw that she's just walking by standing right and you like hold up yeah and so this good posture about yeah yeah hold on hold on and this was after the US Open right I but you know [ __ ] don't be watching tennis you know I'm saying not the I'm not okay let me let me before y'all but like now yeah I did what one day says black people do not watch come on stop it okay no no I'm not my desk I just didn't why I know Serena Williams when I when you think about tennis I just know Serena would Serena that's all I can that's all I can like speak on tennis so was your mind blown when you found out how good she was and that she had beaten Serena Williams red whoa that's pretty impressed I lost boy out now man I'm just picturing this experience of you meet someone you don't know exactly what they do you find out then if you go back and watch the US Open final he must be like yo write it so it was such a huge historic you know I'm saying moment nervous I'm happy for you man yeah not and [ __ ] do watch tennis when I say I made like me you're not saying makers I meant like I don't wanna I don't mean like black people don't watch tennis my parents watch tennis you know my management watch tennis my uncles and when I say [ __ ] don't watch tennis I mean me in my exactly yeah I watch it now though what's up yeah yeah watch it now a long time to be honest like a little wild but we just like kept it hidden you know I'm saying for a wild kept it quiet I really like to go like to public with my personal life but like if you know you just bait if you just like asking me you know I'm saying it'll be like disrespectful to her you know if I say nah at this point you know what I'm saying just like we just started chopping yeah yeah to the point where yeah that's my that's like that's my girl you know it says so if you like just if somebody like hen said and I'll like shy away from it like when I got off the phone yeah yeah yeah so you know you just asked me like just straight up you know especially I'm I can't that's son at her at this point you know I said if I you know say yo you're great never say in every way you're doing everything right right now bro everyone's happy for you the music's right the way you carry yourself is right you care about you respect the culture this is what people come up to me and go why nobody blah blah blah I'm going to people like you and go there young cats out there who are doing it the right way to show that's love yeah you should play you wanna play some rapping ass why being rapping I scored a some have mercy yeah yeah hey what you want to put this right let's run that have mercy you know I'm going to something a little singing song with the rich [ __ ] problem oh yeah yeah yeah oh you you you read my mind my brother I'm thinking about you know the opposite of rich [ __ ] part let's go to Broca's [ __ ] saying
