YAAY Ep54 - Paddle, Pedal, Power Speed Test

hey y'all welcome back to yak about a yak I am your host Black Sparrow so today what we're going to do I've just installed a minkota motor on the side of my kayak my PDL kayak so I've got my PDL Drive I've got my Mota and of course I've got my paddle so we're going to do a pedal paddle power challenge today and looking at the fish finder we're going to record how fast we're going how fast can we get with the pedal the paddle and the Mota so come along for the ride and we'll catch you on the flip side [Music] all right so first up is the paddle challenge we're not going to Pedal we're not going to power we're just going to paddle and let's see how fast we can get with the paddle okay we are at 3 1/2 km an hour let's see if we can hit four oh we got four 4.8 oh we got five 5 and 1/2 okay 5 and A2 that seems to be our top end speed here so paddle 5 1/2 km an hour all right up next pedal time let's go two three 4 5 6 7 eight come on 8 and a half 8 and 1 half really forc andate here let's see if we can hit nine nine woo all right 9 kilm an hour on the pedal not bad but that did take a lot out of me to get it up to nine all right and it's power time let's see what we can do with the power all right locked and loaded here we are not going to Pedal man there's something huge on the bottom here we'll get going look at that autopilot all right just on three and we're working up to 4 km an hour okay get it on number four lot of fish Mark in here just shy of 4 and 1/2 km an hour okay let's go to five we're ripping now 6 km an hour now that being said I'm only working working with a 30 lb thrust just working with a 30 lb thrust Mota and we got 6 km an hour all right so definitely the pedal wins out I managed to get up to 9 km an hour with the pedal but let's on five start hitting at the same time okay so we're just shy of 6 km an hour now we're pedaling as well as powering I managed to get her up to nine eight you know what I can't break much farther past 8 with the Mota power and pedal it definitely does give me an assist but I'm getting more dragged than I am thrust with the Mota in and the paddle pedal so we're going to slow her back down here all right so we just learned something we're we're just cruising along here now at uh kilometer and a half pedal is stopped power is stopped paddle is stopped and uh I was getting resistance with my Mota it definitely gives me a pedal assist I don't have to Pedal as hard with the Mota on but yet when the Mota was out the best I could do was 9 km an hour with the Mota in and the pedal on fast as I could go was 8 km an hour we're going to try one more chest here we're going to bring the Mota up we're going to go pedal again this time we're going to go paddle assist there are monsters on the screen I got to get back to fishing but first we're going to do that pedal paddle dual test here so here we go three 4 5 6 7 7 kilm I probably do 7 km sustain nine was a challenge but 7 km Plus paddling not too easy we can get we can get almost eight yeah not too easy to do pedal and paddle at the same time manag to get up to eight but I'll say I do believe still the fastest is fastest is Pedal Power for sure so there we go so what did we learn today definitely with the Mota on the big water PDL 30 lb thrust and the pedal going I was able to get up to 8 km an hour couldn't break nine why the Mota was actually giving me a bit of resistance but definitely it made cruising at 6 7 km an hour so much easier than when unassisted and just working with the pedal pedal paddle combination very very difficult to do because in the big water you're sitting up much higher it's harder to dig in and pedal at the same time so paddle is only good for steering more so when you're pedling but you know what guys I got to get back to fishing cuz my Sonar is going absolutely ballistic here there are some big ones in the area so hope you enjoy enjoy that stay tuned for the next episode and hey if you're new to the channel want you to do me a huge favor click that subscribe button share the video share the YouTube site with your friends leave me a comment as always I'm black Sparrow saying catch you later [Music] oh [Music]
