Xtool D8S Scantool Full bi-directional controls and more!

[Music] there's [Music] always hey guys it's Eric here at Faro Restorations check it out xtool d8s smart diagnostic system I've been doing a lot of scan tool reviews on this channel a lot of in-depth repairs and such and they reached out to me this is the last of the big players in the industry you have uh anel Foxwell autel launch and xtool to a lesser extent you have the BOS OTC line and uh and there are a couple of other Niche models but this is a this is a big player in the industry now I'm kind of excited to take a look at it we're going to go through it I'll unbox it we'll turn it on I'll show you what we got and then we'll go out to a car and play with it some nice uh from the reviews online pretty nice looking setup here so hopefully it doesn't disappoint like I honestly I the reviews that I was reading on this they're kind of hilarious cuz they're like you know five star review festar review five star review and then you'll get a onear review and you read it and what you're reading when you read those onear reviews is that we actually just have somebody who doesn't know how to operate a scan tool damaging their vehicle so I mean it happens I get it you know it does happen all right so first of all here looks like we got ourselves battery charger right so that's how we're going to keep the main unit loaded up and uh oh some cool stuff here all right USB transfer cable let's take a look at that I love that these uh I love the Future Let's just put it that way so we have a USB extension cable here that allows us to probably hook directly to a computer OBD2 port right and oh that's interesting okay so interesting okay so there's our I mean that's our that's our OBD2 port connector this goes in and it also does have looks like a power connector so if you want to work this with different um ports so like OBD one OBD1 OBD2 yeah OBD1 you could do that as well it looks like with an optional kit European plug and looks like another European adapter right prer the us we're ready to rock and roll main unit looks very well wrapped up for travel of course I'll save all that foam I'm going to slide that out of the way I'm going to slide some of this other stuff over here just so we can look at the main unit together here and before we open that up let's go ahead and take a look at the manual get that open my hands are cold this morning there we go uh and it's just like a quick start guide so packing list it talks about usb data transfer cable to connect to the PC power charger for us EU and UK DB5 main cable and OBD2 16 pin connector so like I said that would that would lean me to believe usually when you have that that you can go out and buy adapters for like Toyota and mo Mercedes and like different brands from the old days Chevy for all that stuff so that's really cool I was not aware that it went back in time that far a lot of these tools don't do that don't offer that ability there's still out there if you're messing with classic cars you know you still got that going on all right smart diagnostic systems just kind of a quick start guide for getting things up to it language change and diagnostic reports right here's the main unit I love the big reveal on these it's always nice to see oh yeah we got ourselves a nice looking tool here all right oh okay cool all right power on off we do have a power plug that's uh insertable there OBD2 so now I understand what's going on here when you have an OBD1 system a lot of times you are required to hook up an external power supply to that in order to get that's what that secondary cord is you're going to jump power to it because the the 16 pin has power going in there already so this is cool I I was not aware that this had functions for OBD1 but I'm very impressed nice rubberized hands here on the side like a gripped you can see on the back it does have a camera and it does and I love this I do like it where you can hang this both for supporting it on a table like so and also for hanging this off of a steering wheel while we're working on a car so that's really cool all right I don't know if it has a charge but let's go ahead and turn it on here on the bench we'll eventually go out to a car with it and play but let's see what we got oh yeah X tool is loading up and here we are after completing your activation you can see it automatically activated and I am good for 1,96 days that is 210 of 2027 so 3 years free updates that's pretty significant in fact for a lot of scan tools the cost of this tool is going to be less than a single Year's renewal on that so that's a big deal and here we are wow okay so we had a beautiful little setup here uh 191 updates 88% of battery life uh lots of stuff going on here what I'm going to do now yep it's going to talk about updating so it wants me to update I'm going to go ahead and pause the camera I'm going to let this do all these updates and then we will come back and check it out in a car let's do it all right well here we are in the car with the tool 191 updates later and I'll just go through some of this we'll go into more here to show you the additional stuff here profile BCI management this being a model that has the uh cabling going to it no worry about that it does have some modules that you can purchase for uh boroscope endoscope and does have a full users manual so if you ever get confused as to what's going on there you just go right into that so as far as updates tons of updates and it just constantly comes in but for right now it's actually updated so you can see it's not not showing anything there settings you got two layers of settings here you have your settings for the tool itself language unit of measure this is cool USB data transfer or for the expansion modules that you can get for it sound and display and then we have about and it shows the app version the OS version but we also have the base model we have what's going on inside here so here is our you know Android about model is d8s you can see the characteristics here and then we also have system information if you want to know you know language and input but we have all that stuff there so you can get your Android version storage you got 37.85 GB of free memory and if we go to home then you brought up to a regular oldfashioned and turn that make sure you guys can see this properly you got a regular oldfashioned Android screen at that point and uh you know with all the stuff you would need here cameras contact information it does have Adobe Acrobat Reader in there and then it does have Chrome Explorer video gallery and settings which brings you back over there so we'll get out of that and we'll go back into Diagnostics special functions I'm sure that's where a lot of you guys are interested in hearing about and so here it is there is a lot everything from key programming and instrument cluster reprogramming and I'll just scroll through here of course headlight re matching eom ECU configurations ECU control resets battery management resets throttle resets clutch adaptation I mean there is a lot going on here even tire size changes are available so a lot of customization available and not all this is available on every car but it just goes to show you how much bidirectional control this has pretty awesome so we're going to go into diagnosis here we have demo but in this case I'm hooked up to a car so we're going to go into Asian Vehicles get ourselves down to the Toyota and we're looking at North America let's see if we can find the car it does have laser Cruise it does have memory seat it does have VCS and there it is 2010 Toyota Sienna we have some choices here automatic scan brings us up to a full system scan and if we're not interest that we can go right into system some selection ECU configuration is some of the things we can turn on and off in this car in this case uh we're just going to try automatic scan and see what brings up Topography is here and as you can see it's already rolling it is rolling through the mix right and it's found some issues there we go so let's take a look at the report report and here it is vehicle information VIN number and all the rest cannot receive data from the transmitter that's tire pressure monitors we have a tire pressure sensor on this vehicle that's out you can see the light there it blinks when you first turn it on so it is definitely got a problem there ABS Circuit of right front wheel cylinder uh wheel sensor malfunction of engine control system low or high voltage and then we do have some uh b2799 engine immobilizer history so that's interesting that is a problem with the fact that we had a key that wasn't programmed and so those are kind of um history codes as you can see there laser Cruise engine immobilizer system again because we were programming Keys it was it was seeing key code not matched so there there's our issues there SRS all history a history code for the airbag sensor and then all the other ones that are okay so we can save that and there it is is now in our permanent list cool so you can see the colors right now I want to clear all my dtcs let's see how quickly we can roll through all that the reason it wasn't able to do the engine is because I'm currently I have the engine running so let me go ahead I'll turn it off for and it's extremely fast I'll say that uh it just cleared all the codes if you don't like the tapology right like this is the um this kind of shows our powertrain our chassis and our our you know I call it the infotainment area because we're looking at all the customer stuff seats and and climate control and Radio Systems this being uh driver assist parts and this being our main engine and transmission stuff if you don't like that you can switch over to list right and that gives you a a more conventional look yeah that might be a little better for you to see there okay so let's go into engine we're going to diagnose there's no codes here in addition controlling the automatic transmission this CCU also controls fuel injection timing knock control idle speed self diagnosis and backup functions right so again now if I just wanted to read each individual one I could do that we do have actuation tests that are available with the vehicle running I'm not going to do that but check out all this control the fuel pump speed activate vsv inhibit ACM I mean there is a ton of controls that we can test a lot of problems on these engines with VVT as they get older get some sludge build up perfect way for you to control VVT solenoids and see what's happening as well as lockup control solenoid and solonoid for the transmission so we have all the transmission and shift points all that stuff is available here so this is the bidirectional control portion of this tool and I'm rating this like an A+ I mean this is this is pretty good pretty in depth here special functions allow us to turn features on and off on vehicles I haven't really been into this one so we can do a hard reset of all memory Vin or check mode that's not a ton but this is just for engine wait till we get into some subsystems here and you'll see what I'm talking about oh let's go back into engine ECT and let's take a look at um let's take a look at some of that live data before we move on to something else here and you can see it's fairly Snappy right so available we can change our unit measure here and we also have um let's see here I'm going to go to custom which one do I want to have here I want to have O2 sensor monitoring uh vbt monitoring state of fuel system calculated load coolant temp shortterm and longterm fuel trim and engine speed let's let's do that and you can see them popping up here with our values calcul low 27% I give it some gas see it climb cooling temperature she has reached absolute operating temperature fuel trim this car is running right but to give you an idea you can you can see how quickly it reacts so whatever protocol it's using whatever um I don't know what the processor is inside of this but it certainly isn't struggling much on that and then you can also press the button and you can see we have the ability to go with digital bar graphs which is really nice and if you don't like bar graphs you could have it as a RPM gauge pretty cool right and then we could also uh say here's what it's supposed to be I don't want it going above or beyond that so that's kind of a cool feature matter of fact I wasn't aware it had that and there's another one here we can look at as far as fuel trim that should climb when you hit the gas level out same thing with this and then as well we could give that well obviously it's not going to go above 25 or below 25 or negative 25 so I don't know if that one really helpful on that but you understand what I'm talking about cool all right so let's get out of this system let's take a look at some of the other systems in this car this being a fairly uh fancy one here occupant detection combination Med Gateway let's do body see what kind of goodies we have there all right special functions all right what they're calling a wireless code is actually our key fob so we can register key fobs uh you know for remote controls for the keys actuation tests in the body I bet you there's all you know these cars have power uh yeah Trunks and power doors which gave a lot of issues so here's a way of saying hey what are we looking at here I could press that button that trunk should open up right we also have headlight relays tail light relay dimmers horns we can even test the horn from here we can test door locks and I'll go ahead and hit okay there you go you can see it's operating and that's it so all these things I could I can have the windows going down there's a lot of stuff you can do here but you get the idea when it comes to bir directional controls this tool is is I mean extremely extremely in depth here that's just crazy I bet you you could probably let's see here I'm going to get out of this and let's see what other systems we have here let's go into that airbag I know a lot of things happen with airbags where um special functions we got a check mode for the airbags here see what else we got driver seat Diagnostics combination let's see d uh so we can reprogram our seats calibration so it knows if somebody's in the seat airbags will only go off if there's over a certain amount of weight in the car cool I think you guys are getting it if you're not you'll have to let me know what uh well let's go back in there maintenance reset we got timing belt warning light I didn't even know that existed on this car oil maintenance reset set of course so there's a lot I mean these cars it's just crazy and I could go into demo here with you if you want real quick it's going to just pick a random car you know an X3 nice very nice and then we have system selection body system let's go into Central Gateway module on that one we have uh actuation tests right so there's just stuff on every one of these it's really cool lot of lot of data available on this this tool is is Snappy I'll say it is fast probably a little faster than any other tool that I currently have I would say based off of playing with it right now back out of here and that's it so we're back to our main setting here yeah X tool if you press that that is going to take you out on the web to their to their website and of course you could also uh you know search anything it's it's literally Chrome but it just brings you up with their products and stuff like that so you have the ability to check that out as well pretty darn cool pretty darn cool cool well I guess that's where I'll leave it it is the xtool d8s and I think it is a nice nice tool man good size you can see my hand it's about an 8 in screen I'd say very clear and it's a wired tool so you don't have to worry about losing little Bluetooth dongle or whatnot so that's kind of cool and yeah as far as updates I always you know I look at updates on these things and I think to myself that is um I looked upate on these to sense whether or not something is worth buying and in this case it it 191 updates that means they're keeping up with this thing on on a weekly if not monthly basis so awesome my friends till next time take care
