if you got one of these things one of these things i'm sorry i'm sorry that you have to deal with these i mean sometimes they work great and other times they just don't work at all you turn it on you sit there for 45 minutes and it just says loading you take the sd card you pull it out you put it back in you pull it out you put it back in nothing works and for myself i'm pretty done with my h4n but for the most part i pretty much just used my h4n to interface between my xlr microphone which i think you might be able to see and my camera or my computer now my only problem is i didn't want to spend the money on an xlr interface for my camera i've looked in the past i've looked on b h they can be really expensive and all i really needed to do is to convert my xlr into phantom power into my dslr and if it has some knobs and dials that's great but this week i was absolutely fed up with my h4n so i hopped on amazon typed in xlr to dslr interface and came across this guy the comica cvm ax3 and i gotta say for 80 bucks canadian that's not too bad i posted a little instagram story about it and uh people wanted a video so here it is here's your video let me tell you about this thing it does exactly what i need it has phantom power it converts my xlr to 3.5 millimeter mic input it's got two xlr inputs you can switch between mono and stereo there's a bunch of switches that i don't know what they mean or what they do i know how to set it the way i need it and it all runs off of nine volts you can mount your camera above it or you can mount it above your camera if you like whatever you prefer either way it looks goofy i would recommend if you do buy this one or something like this one also pick up a big pack of rechargeable 9 volts because you will forget to turn it off and it will die on you the next day i've already shot one video with it and it's already happened once now the only thing i got to figure out now is the perfect gain from the interface and the gain from the camera and balance the two to achieve the highest audio quality so let's do a test all right this is my second time shooting this audio because i'm an idiot i screwed up i thought the dials on the back of this interface were input one input two but obviously i can't see them uh it turns out they are left and right and my one input is being split into left and right and i was only turning the one dial not realizing so now we're gonna shoot this in mono everything on the right side camera's audio is set to zero decibels i turn the gain on the interface just down a little bit to compensate all right let's change it up now we got the camera in minus 15 decibels gain turned up to about 75 percent this isn't a perfect test but it is a realistic test there's quite a bit of room noise here but it is realistic to what i film in all right now one more test now the camera is set to six decibels and the interface is turned down to about 10 percent my guess is that these settings would be the worst settings but they could also be the best settings i'm not sure ideally i think we want either the camera doing all the work or we want the interface doing all the work let's take a look i just listened to those clips on my computer i have concluded that minus 15 decibels on the camera and then about 75 gain on the interface seems to give me the least amount of noise even with my computer and my fridge that sounds the best well yep that's it okay bye [Music] you
