all right today we are doing a hypervisor setup uh I have a little uh box down here that we been meaning to use for different things my Plex whenever I have more than two people connected to it the transcoding when I'm sharing my movies to family members and such has been let's just say problematic when more than two people are doing it and that comes from running everything through my little sonology box uh somewhere down here and uh it the sonology boxes are great boxes but I'm got like 15 or so Docker containers set up on it it just a little too much going on so that's why uh today we're going to be setting up xcp and it's one of my favorite hypervisors a lot of people like why don't you use proxmox proxmox is like what all the YouTubers use proxmox is great for hobbyists and such and if you got um a a visual thing that like you're going to be using a screen on that Virtual Machine by all means proxmox is probably one of the best it's it runs on spice it's based on Debian Pro MOX is great but in the professional sphere you will never see prox MOX it's just you're going to want to be doing headless machines and prox MOX is great for a lot of things but in the business realm and not so much you just really won't see it you'll see a lot of VMware stuff um and even maybe the occasional xpg or Zen herver uh which is a citric spin-off uh xcp and is the open source counterpart and it uses this really fancy gooey called Zen Orchestra uh I really like this one because it's pretty much the only open- source uh you know type type zero or whatever the hypervisor is I I I I can't remember all the different types I just know this runs right on bare metal it's not sitting on top of an operating system that's what I love about it um and and it works really well so uh let's let's install it today and start fixing some of my environment so I can just load up and spin up uh dros I can spin up whatever I want all all in here so it's uh going to be a fun one today uh C Arch again very hobbyist very fun and if you only have one machine great but when you get into a more business oriented thing you're going to have um your storage is going to be separated out your storage is not going to be on your host your host is going to be mostly for processing and you're not going to be on your host either so you got your host machine for processing you have a centralized store typically uh usually a sand and uh or sand device on a sand and then you have your clients and you are using a workstation and a client this is how it's typically set up in a business environment uh and there's no really reason why I don't set this up here at the house it's just a better way to virtualize stuff if that makes sense it does require a lot of equipment so you know uh it's to be considered if you only have one machine prox MOX is pretty much the way to go or you could even I've talked a lot of crap about this project but you could even go with it um I'm drawing a blank what's the one where boots off a USB uh it cost like 70 bucks or something I can't remember it's it's uh geeez it'll come to me it'll come to me I think lonus did a video about doing like two uh two Gamers one PC or something unraid UNR that's it thank you guys I'm not a huge fan of prox MOX run raid uh just never been my jam they're fun very uh small projects but if you have one machine and that's all you have both of those are good projects so I don't want to talk crap about them they're good for that but if you have the hardware and you want to set it up like a business sets it up you're not going to use either those projects you're just not uh so let's let's do it um I don't know if we'll do mint today it depends on how fast this goes so it it depends on how much uh how fast and and how easy easily we get this installed so we're not going to be jacking around with news articles or anything we're going to just jump right into it so I'm already got their site pulled up we're going to go ahead I've already downloaded this now you'll notice anytime you get in these uh environments oh let's see let's come back to here um if you come in download this uses an old 8.2 ISO this is actually from like 2022 so almost almost 2 years old uh so I'm going with a Beta release today of 8 3 and I it's mainly because I want the more upto-date uh drivers and also Linux kernel because I'm going to be putting this on a newer machine uh so if you have really bleeding edge Hardware please note XP xng does run uh older a as with most stuff you know you wouldn't uh you wouldn't throw a bleeding edge thing like Arch servers on a on a brand new uh server for your business because you know Arch updat a bunch and not nearly as tried and true as something that's a more stable release so this is very very stable but it does run a very old kernel so you got to know that ahead of time so that's why we're not using the 8.2 I'm going to go ahead and download and I've already downloaded 8.3 beta 1 uh which has been out for about four or five months so that's what I have loaded up here and I believe the stable release should be happening sometime in the next couple months but I'm going to go ahead and start this and we're going to burn it onto that it's only about a 600 Meg ISO and it's a 4 gig um 4 gig uh USB drive so it shouldn't take very long yeah Linux M just released what Veronica or starts with a V of some sort so it's a new thing we'll see how long this takes shouldn't take very long now I will say XC PNG does have a very odd partition structure so if you do do this I recommend highly recommend using Rufus you're not going to be able to use uh Vin toy at all so if you have like an all-in-one boot drive you can't just toss XC PNG on it it's just not going to work it has a very specific boot pattern and it's uh kind of kind of odd the partition structure so very very good so I would use Rufus for Linux users out there that are burning it just a straight DD will get the job done uh etcher I don't know about etcher maybe maybe you can get away with eter we'll see if we get to it I think we will uh we we'll see because it shouldn't take us very long on this uh this install uh it's more of getting like Zen Orchestra up and going and some other things uh one one problem with xcp and G out of the gate I will mention a lot of people kind of a turnoff is the web UI that they do on here uh let's let's just click in here or we can go to the official site um this right here they have like this light version because how they make money is much like red hat makes money they sell you support so it's it's meant for businesses xcp and G is really not meant for uh the residential crew just going to throw that out there so everything set up in hey create this support plan and all this other stuff but the cool thing is there's also a community version of it that basically unlocks all the features so you can do backups you can do everything and uh it just means you don't have any support which is kind of what we want to go with so uh I think it was Zen Orchestra installer right here and this is what we're going to be utilizing for the Community Edition installer it's been a little bit it was updated 3 weeks ago so we'll see how this works uh but o overall I think it should be a pretty pretty much a slam dunk uh for the install oh the new release is Virginia okay yeah good to hear Alex thanks for watching them yeah it should be an interesting stream a lot of people like uh virtualization and love doing virtualization in Linux specifically qmu and if you're like even like an Ubuntu based install you could do like mint users out there you could utilize the quick emu project that is fantastic I love quick emu and I did a video on quick emu if you're interested in that uh if you're a Linux men enjoyer or or even a Debian enjoyer man so good so good thanks for the prime there gaming yeah in Windows VMS a lot of people what they do a lot of LX folks out there is they'll have a Windows VM ready to go so like let's say you need something in Adobe and it's like Creative Suite you you out the subscription and you're like crap I need to get this document instead of booting back into Windows it is easier to spin up a VM uh earlier in the Stream I think aari jumped in and talked about pass through I like pass through but uh the the downside is having two gpus and really utilizing one for Linux one for Windows and and doing it that way is something that I will get to eventually maybe later this year yeah setting up a VM yesterday because work uses productivity trackers that's hilarious oh man so uh let's see here this is always a little bit slower I think I'm using a really old USB drive USB 2 so this is kind of my fault here I should have looked for a usb3 drive I just got lazy and this this USB drive is ancient I've probably had it for over 10 years you think I'd throw them all away and get a new set but [Laughter] lazy I know the problem is I have have a hard time throwing away technology like old technology I like to just kind of hold on to it and hoard it like a greedy little Goblin and I never throw anything away I never sell it and my wife is always telling me to sell it but I'm like no no I might need that I might need that in the future and that's how I end up with all these old USB drives besides it makes for interesting interesting streams when things go Ary go wrong yeah I actually have a a USB m.2 device enclosure over there so I could do that and most times I'm loading it up on this uh this machine the studio PC so I do actually have an SSD dedicated to like vent toy but this is a kind of a special stream that's why we're using a USB we haven't actually used a USB in years I think the last USB drive I actually used to to do this was quite some time ago so let's uh load this thing up let's see what we got all righty and we'll see see if I can catch it hey look at that all right uh so what we're working with here this is kind of a a ryzen 7 7840 HS uh it has a really really good Apu on this and what do we have on the memory side 32 gigs of memory so actually not bad uh and we have two 2.5 gig ethernet on this guy very quiet would make for a really good host I was thinking and I could just leave it running in the background without eating up a bunch of energy as well because it's very efficient now as far as the drive on here I want to say the drive is somewhat new let's see what does it say the size of the nvme N maybe not we'll figure it out on the Fly though doesn't really matter since we're not really utilizing the mvme most of it will be done through uh the nas boox using what is the term xng do I want to say like image groups but that's not it we'll figure it out I think it like volume containers or whatever all right modus thanks for the tier one all right what do you think the best file system for a games Drive m.2 yeah definitely m.2 for a games Drive trying to share between Windows arch for Steam and whatnot but there isn't much guides out there for a games Drive um you know better FS or ext4 is typically what I stick to these days I really don't like to deviate very much in that that regard all right we can go into the the virtual world now now that we got that all that ah was this a colonel Panic ah poo well hm sweet and let the problems begin damn it ah okay I think there was a bug with xcp and G and apus one second let's come back into our main main system let's see what was uh xcp NG Apu bug uh bug I think there's a ryzen Apu issue with some of xngs uh takes like 10 seconds to apply the documented workaround what's the workaround all right edit the grub 64.com and change value uh what value are we changing here Max MIM 2 20 48 M okay all right good to know let's come back into here try it out are there any PCs with the same power efficiency of Apple M chips um not really Apple does a great job with with a power efficiency you're not going to find an x86 chip with it there there might be some arm chips like a Raspberry Pi but the problem is you don't have the performance aspect of the apple apple did a really good job man you know as much as I like to hate on Apple they did a great job with power efficiency and and power it's hard to beat uh beat them in that regard um I'm going to see can we do a maybe we limit that down on board I don't think we can do it through the BIOS I think we're going to just have to do it through grub so I'm going to have to catch grub hopefully just tapy okay so here we go let's go change Max MIM um probably Dom zero let's change this jeez probably like uh 20 what was it 2048 shoot what was that uh yeah 20 48 yeah all right let's let's try try it out so with this uh we'll just hit F10 to boot see if we get a colel panic this time around this is just kind of a weird bug with ryzen apus on this maybe ah spoke too soon damn it I should have tested this out before doing a stream on this well what can we do to fix this bug that is the question any other bug here um we could change that now it does say maybe we instead of Dom zero maybe we change Max MIM itself and added as a secondary option uh so max MIM colon 2048m might be the way to go um I reboot the iso IM image by changing this to Dom 20 okay but no luck yeah that's the same thing I had in BIOS CPU virtualization oh you know what we might have svm disabled and that might also be a problem let's check that that could trigger a colonel Panic as well but again this is a pretty new chip it hasn't been on the market very long as well so we might be we might be so let's double check bio settings for virtualization make sure all that's enabled I don't think it is so that also could be throwing at Colonel Panic we might not need to do this grub edit since we're using the beta and I think they fixed this in the beta but again this is an older an older Linux kernel so we'll try it out it might need not be up to Snuff for the 7840 and that is the downside to using stable releases but let's try it out all right uh let's first try this out we have TPM shouldn't be an issue there let's just run through some of these enable hibernation disable uh AMD CPS gfx configuration buffer size 4 gig we might need to change some of that but we're not going to mess with that IO mmu we will enable uh I think we'll be fine with that all right AC power loss we're going to change this to always on uh since this is going to be a virtualization host I want to make sure it comes back on on a uh power outage doubt it'll ever need it since I have a UPS back there but you never know smart shift what is that all right that's that's fine go to CPU configuration svm mode enabled NX mode um it could be secure boot as well we could disable secure boot try it out yeah let's just work through some of this H let's enable resizable bar s srov hot plug yes USB configuration nope ufi Network stack I don't think we need to mess with that demo board fine all right so we have all those um South Bridge that's just going to be USB North Bridge going to be Memory all right secure boot configuration is enabled right now let's try it with just iommu let's just save change changes and then boot again to this feel like trying the max MIM setting on top of Dom zero I'm pretty sure the Dom zero uh GRUB boot would be what you want to use yeah booted I missed it all right it's booting into uh booting into old windows that loaded up on this thing originally I was going to do it as a home theater PC just for like gaming and such whenever I released that video last year on it and it's just been sitting in my drawer and I'm like why should use this I think we can do F7 for the boot menu without going into the BIOS though and if this one fails we disable secure boot all right come on we'll just hit e to get into all right perfect we got Dom zero Max m we're going to go 20 48 here and we'll also do a maxim setting at the end of this line Max MIM um what was that let me look it up just we're going to go ahead and add this setting even it's a if it's an invalid setting it's not going to do any harm I don't believe so we got Tom zero changed we will also do yeah Max MIM it says just a chck change that for the installer I'm going to see if there's anything else we can do uh next Windows stream probably be next week uh let's see could do MIM equals 2048 to set the memory size as well I don't like doing thatth one more second here yeah I think we'll just rock with the Tom zero I don't think the max MIM setting anywhere or else it be really affecting the installer from everything I'm reading I have a little other screen that I'm looking at and I don't see anything on it so let's let's just do that yeah I have quite the curse all right I don't think the immu is going to be able to I don't think that was it I think it's just going to Colonel Panic again if I was a betting man yeah so we have a bug a h and I think part of this could be the kernel being too old for this Hardware um let's look up and make sure the even the beta might be too old like I said this Hardware I have is pretty bleeding edge I don't think anybody up at the xcp and G team has tested this Hardware yet so uh let's go check that out first uh xcp and uh 8.3 uh Linux kernel what is that version I don't see it let's check the other notes maybe the Alpha version tells me I want to say the kernel hopefully it's it's up there but let's double check yeah I don't see it and there's nothing there's no Colonel yeah no Colonel here in this news release check the public Alpha Colonel uh [Music] no well I talked it up and it does not look like we had a a more recent version what what is it let's see what are we got I guess we can look directly on the project itself and see it is open source after all but can we track it down quickly is the question uh which I'm not sure on uh API server no damn what you think I could do that um see 7.5 okay that sounds right yeah I mean usually that's what I do if it's something where it's something new I usually will try it out on a stream if it's something I know is going to work it's kind of makes for a pointless stream in my opinion so if it's based on sentto 7.5 let's see what kernel version is that though I don't think it's a direct translation I don't think Linux is up to 7.5 I'm pretty sure like I remember like 6. 6.10 sub version just released or something so I know we're not that far uh so what konel is it though that is what I want to know because we need to know the colonel version to make sure that we have uh a proper uh Hardware support can't be 3.2 that's just way too old s. 7.5 seems really old though jeez that would be a kernel version in the threes that's no way n that's probably like one of the r ones 3.10 no way that's ancient guys that's like more than a decade old I mean cintos 7's really really old anyways but there's no way it's using that ancient of a colel we're talking we're talking a decade Plus on that I refuse to believe that um originally I think the project was based on Centos 7 but we all know Centos versioning it's all sent off stream now which is a completely different they should have just called it a different Dro don't get me started with that whole rant but uh it it was should be based on basic rail at this point although I don't know yeah a Bas 7.5 kernel 3 3.1 anything made in the last 10 years wouldn't be supported under that kernel yeah see 8.2 is 4.9 n yeah that that sounds more realistic to me 4.19 is still pretty old that's like five five years old not security vulnerabilities you can still patch old kernels you don't need to upgrade to the latest kernel but for Hardware support you sure as hell it's going to be a lot harder so you definitely should be upgrading the latest konel 4.19 is old it's not ancient though it's not 3.10 that's that's really old so uh that's that's what we got here what in the hell though um I should have just grabbed a regular server I just wanted to be different I just wanted to be different we could also try the older version of 8.2 although let me see uh Linux kernel support for ryzen uh 78 40 Apu as far oh man guys I don't think this is going to work because for the I uh the Apu for the the 7840 HS you need a kernel version of 6.14 or above man I know we're not going to get that with this project well that was shortlived crap we could just run proxmox is proxmox even have that latest ver okay as I crapped all over proxmox let's see proxmox uh download let's see what kernel version it's on okay proxmox 8.1 but what Linux kernel is that it's probably 8.1 huh it's 6.5 okay 6.5 one1 so we'd be we'd be money with a 8.1 installer oh hell let's just download it never mind forget this is not an xcp and scam we're GNA just do prox MOX prox MOX it is yeah I totally just crapped all over proxmox then I was like well I got new hardware so uh this this one's not going to work all right um yeah let's uh pay no attention to the man behind the curtain here um this is is now a prox MOX virtualization stream oh Lordy all right here we go well I knew I was taking a gamble with that new hardware I just hoped it would work yeah all right we got 8.1 going Let's uh let's switch it out oh man that was too great that was too great oh man love it well you got to love that proxmox does have the more up to date as I was like older is better it's more stable well not if you have new hardware oh little gotchas of Linux all right here you go let's just go Rufus oh Rufus uh VMware is okay it's just uh the licensing and all that kind of gets me and I'm like ah so I'm kind of out on that I just hate dealing with it so like if you set up you can you can Tinker around with VMware usually I think they still have developer licenses and such but they're all are on time trials so you can set up a VMware instance but you're going to be tearing it down in like 90 days or I I forget what the trial period is but you can't just set it up and be running your environment with it it's uh it just sucks so as much as I use some VMware stuff especially in business it's just I would never I don't want to pay Perpetual license forever for it they're just kind of like me yeah the the free esxi is actually gone away too I don't know if you guys saw the news but uh VMware is killing any kind of like free tier forever though you can still install VMware and esxi and like vs spere you know whatever their package is it's been like probably 10 years since I've done a VMware install it's just man I don't want to tear it down in 90 days or whatever uh vtoy in this one uh I don't have a ventoy US B I actually have a VIN toy SSD that I use on the main system here so I don't really ever do this this is just kind of a special stream for this uh specific hardware setup yeah and if you're doing a virtualization install typically you wouldn't want to be using like an all-in-one USB either I like just doing like a rofus or just a drag DD if you're using Linux uh we got a prox uh what we got freezes at boot we'll see if we get the freeze or not all right good to know let's see what we end up with I will say proxmox is uh definitely a lot more mainstream at least in the uh home Home Server crowd what is Vin cord I don't know probably another Discord ripoff there's a billion of them I got a mo I got a lot of them added to the uh Windows toolbox but you know you got the chicken and egg scenario there everyone just uses Discord and they're like ah here you go it's basically modded Discord yeah hopefully it takes off I'd be more than happy for it to all right uh the the wipe of this was much faster than the other one so that was good all righty let's go ah okay here we go proxmox time let's see if we got any any greater success here oh look at that it's been forever since I've used proxmox well back home I go I shouldn't pull this screen down as soon as I pull the screen down curs install should just leave it up the whole time all righty see if this boots so far so good all right I agree PVE Target disc sure got one terabyte on this disc heck yeah uh country let's go let's [Music] go Americas I think is what it's classified as in Linux America or is it us yes uh no it's America America Chicago is what we're going for scroll a little bit more bam easy all right uh country United States bam all right good set the localization uh password oh okay please use a strong password enter a valid email address we'll send alerts to this email such as backup failures hi ha problems all right good um what should we use been a while since I used a regant keyboard [Music] all not that it matters all righty and back to back to this guy uh fqdn we'll just go PVE do Titus domain. local I don't know just put Titus um for the address maybe like 10.5 DNS server I think I don't really use a special localized DNS server I guess I could put this externally I I'll let the Gateway resolve it though all right well so much for hiding my email [Laughter] address yeah there you go there you go chat my docks of the day now well the day is still young I might dox myself again it happens every couple streams brilliant all right it's creating logical volumes I want to say the last version I was on for proxmox might have been six proxmox 6 so I don't think I even bothered with the proxmox 7 definitely not eight I'd have to look back it was it would have been whenever I made my last uh hyper hypervisor video on the channel so a good while ago well so far I'm pretty impressed with it the installer couldn't be simpler so I'm sure it's come quite a ways I probably should have used like a USB nvme in closure I have one back there so instead of using a USB drive I could have done an mvme through USB probably USBC and this would be considerably faster but hey when's the next drunk streamer video man it's been a while actually so what happened was I ended up getting Gilbert's Disease have you guys ever even heard of that I don't know if it was just made up and that's what the doctor said I had but uh I thought I think it's still it's gone it's fine we'll just we're just uh we're just hanging out um but yeah anyways I can't drink very much anymore apparently my liver doesn't work so good so so that's kind of a bummer you know uh so I can never really drink to get drunk anymore if I have a drink I can have like one drink maybe two but that's pushing it and definitely no more than two anymore so it's like okay yeah been working out um I got my first big I got a muscle up the other day which I thought was pretty awesome not very many people not not very many probably less than 1% of 40y olds can do a muscle up so I thought that was pretty cool and I did a strict muscle up at that yeah may maybe if I I can get drunk again after letting the liver Restore for many years uh just do it restoring the liver Parts it's true uh I I think proxmox might have uh progress bars like Microsoft here I I have a feeling that this will go from 3% to like 20% like just skip ahead maybe I don't know or maybe maybe there's a hidden dialogue box behind this pretty setup again I don't know is it a bug do we have a bug I think someone did mention that there was a bug hey there we go never mind spoke too soon it just took a long time to do logical volumes I like okay yeah I think that's a good good uh synopsis there dawn of Gilbert's Disease oh look at that now we're at 50% nice yeah usually I don't get hung up on installers so usually when I'm going on an installer I'll give it 30 minutes at like 1% if it gets stuck on a percent usually I'm just like okay I probably take 30 minutes to get through this and then you know go go pour a coffee or go mess around and then come back so a lot of times I don't really get hung up too much on installers getting stuck at certain spots you'd be shocked at how many people are just so impatient that they just go oh it's stuck I got to reboot I don't see the progress bar moving I'm like eh if the progress bar is not moving it just means that one specific spefic thing it was trying to do just took a long time on that system it's kind of funny but yeah just you'd be surprised how much patience a lot of installs are I've gone on site and seen a lot of things like that people are like ah oh it's already doing this I'm like nah just give it a minute and they're like dude it's been 10 minutes I'm like yeah let's give it 30 minutes and they're like 30 minutes and I'm like sometimes it just takes that long and then usually five or 10 minutes later it'll go through and they'll be like oh okay you'd be shocked impatience man it it honestly impatience probably kills a lot of it careers right there a lot of it is just hurry up and wait kind of thing yeah but it's really hard like when something's happening like let's say you're doing like a rebuild of a raid and all your drives are offline you got everybody calling you're like oh crap what I'm going to do oh it's terrible the sky is falling kind of thing uh those minutes I'm telling you it it it it takes a while it it seems like hours but patience it matters all right oh let's see old beautiful prox MOX prox MOX on a belink don't judge [Laughter] uh uh what did I make my log in did uh anybody uh check what I made my log in there it's not the email address nah just log in through the browser all right let's do that oh I can get back to my old keyboard ah all right now was it 805 on the port oh 8,6 my bad my bad all right now uh the keyboard's been treating me good I love this keyboard I actually I contacted him back I got I got him to send me two more keyboards it's like I'm okay I'm going to make that [Laughter] video uh what do we got root that can't be the password though right oh okay never mind that's the password root okay good root is the usern name password's [Laughter] password let me in but with a one and a three oh classic all right uh let's set up oh let's set up some storage here I guess I guess we don't really need I guess we could do that or we could just create a VM h let's let's just do a VM real fast Let's uh let's try that out oh actually I want to do a storage pool into my um let's grab in where's that at all right the big thing I want to do is a big storage pool for my isos that would probably be under discs I'd imagine or maybe not where is storage pools in here I'll have to check out those scripts monk yeah uh I want to say is it CT data center oh yeah yeah here we go it hasn't changed that much should be under storage and NFS okay cool let's go server um what's the formatting here for NFS NFS templates it's been so long server share content okay what about ID let's just call this images content is going to be uh container probably and know probably dis image or ISO image go volume two images add dude you just just can't get that any more simple than that right damn that's like stupid yeah uh yeah it reads my whole thing so we got 76 terabytes uh 40 terabytes free perfect dang ah man that is just too simple so now let's uh let's grab the latest uh what was it Linux Mint somebody said it earlyer Linux it feels too easy just feels way too easy I don't like it feels wrong uh let's just grab cinnamon I guess uh Linux Mint is this the latest one Virginia feel like the latest one's uh oh Linux Mint Edge Edge okay let's go edge The Edge Edition uh gigabit do we have a I think there was a DFW one that I really like giganet is pretty pretty good though speed wise let's see H it's going to take 30 30 seconds to download three gigs it's too slow there's got to be a better one let's [Laughter] see H anyways that should be pretty good you can download it directly in proxmox oh wow all right so we got that let's just uh toss that into our images download and do we have we have FCP ooh darn it h we'll just do it through SMB it's a little bit slower through SMB I guess 800 Mega megabytes a second is respectable we'll allow it all right so now we have that Linux mint oh actually Linux Mint uh Edge resource pool we're not going to put it in the resource pool right OS images oh it doesn't really show huh darn well you think it would show that though let's check our storage pool one more time make sure that's showing up so if we go ISO images uh it's not showing here let's see did we I must have done something wrong is it upload yeah the but it should read what's there right because I already copy the iso over I guess I could have done it all through the prox MOX thing specified directory requirements I wanted to read all those isos I already have in there so just to show you guys what I'm talking about let's just go to images so this is what's currently in the NFS share um quite a bit of isos and just historical iOS I can just download and install uh the last time I was doing proxmox was six by the way it was 6.4 was the last time I did it back in 2021 good to know uh any so anyways I wanted to have access all these in my prox MOX so let's look at our permissions uh directory requirements what would that be where would that be is the question so VM disk ISO images H let's come over here maybe edit it so we have dis image ISO image nodes no restriction oh ISO folder created by PX is what is in there really is there what's the latest modification there's Linux Mint let's just copy it back real fast copy back's only 400 megabytes a second H could optimize that a little anyo uh let's go back here I kind of want to see what kind of structure it does for the storage let's say we upload that pretty slow going through a browser feel like I'm in second grade using a web browser I feel dirty by doing it this way that and it's a lot slower but maybe it'll actually work I think it'll probably create like its own folder or something I've been in Windows a lot lately Peter been doing a lot of work on like the windows uh utility and those types of things so I've been living at that and I've been playing a lot of games too so I've been kind of slacking yeah see the web goey not a fan I much rather would just use the file explorer but I bet you let's let's do a little test because I want to say we this will create like a permissions folder and like probably a subfolder in this this rout of this directory and yeah see it put it in the images Mount template ISO Linux Mint so then that shows up now let's see what happens if we come back to images let's say we grab the Nyx OS image right here uh this is 2311 let's just let's just see is there a template ISO let's say we take that put it into here I probably shouldn't have copied this just going to fill up my own entire network drive with with images then then let's come back here let's do a refresh okay it just likes its specific directories so it's not going to read the root of the directory it likes that subdirectory scheme but we don't need to use this upload like a caveman uh upload button gross anyways so for going forward if you're dropping a lot of images you would just do a shortcut to it throw it in there whether in your Linux Windows whatever uh you would do that so now we have ISO image now we can create our VM I like it uh so we'll just call this one mint Edge next and oh look at that beautiful all right uh we will do a qmu agent please h no reason to add TPM I like C bios all that looks gravy to me next uh we'll do 32 gigs qmu image format that's probably like a I think it's qow all that looks great to me sockets we got that uh how many CS how many vcpus does the 7840 have or does it read in the data center ah let's give it like four ah let's give it six that sounds good to me memory uh let's give it 10 gigs H bridged I wonder I probably should look at like PCI pass through in proxo that would be kind of a cool project as well anyhoo all that looks good let's start her up let's see how efficient this is starting with old id 100 uh I don't have a complaint with cute browser I I I love cute browser it's just not very user friendly I'd say for a noob once you learn cute browser it's like Vim it's like the Vim of browsers is what cute browser is but it doesn't have like extensions and other things as well Dark theme no script U block there's a lot of things it's very cool though I do like it all right let's go to console oh okay so we have this I don't like the VNC setting but the cool thing the one thing I love about uh prox is it does have spice servers so let's just install this with like a qmu agent and then enable spice and you get darn near pretty pretty native performance now I haven't done a normal Linux install damn when was the last time I did a normal Linux install I don't know qmu agent makes things uh it makes things run a lot faster basically it's able to utilize your virtualization to its Max Capacity without an agent and you're using qmu it's going to it's going to run like dog poo uh usually so it's always best if you're in a virtualization environment honestly even if you're not like same thing goes for um like VMware or virtual box uh whatever it is they all have tools for that virtualization environment and you want to use that um uh mint PVE oh super secure password moving on uh yeah the last last Linux install using Au dude I think it's been over a year I think it's been a couple years back when I was doing like hey yeah God I think it's it back when I did like release notes and stuff like that but I don't even think I never really like the news Channel kind of thing Windows Fanboy install that's what I should rename the title of the stream uh Windows Fanboy installs Linux for the first time that's that's some good clickbait right there oh man I should I should make a YouTube video like that I wonder how many people would uh would would click on that video I think we get a lot of new users on that video and the rest of the people would be like what theck El titis what's going on with this that'd be pretty funny yeah you kind of see how we have the delayed mouse cursor so this is with zero virtualization optimizations uh I'm kind of actually thankful we're on proxmox though because the thing I love about proxmox is it's really good for visuals with xcp and it's great for headless like business environments stuff that you can just ssh in but you're not really looking at the graphics side side of things proxmox does such a good job with the visuals even even the crappy VNC setup like this it still feels pretty good obviously laggy because it's VNC after all but man I don't know it be pretty good what's the best and most stable drro as a server ah what are you doing on the server it depends yeah it depends like what are you doing on it there's so many like gotas with that debian's a good good answer uh Debbie and stable I really love I it's just always my go-to for a lot of things Ubuntu server is not terrible the one one modification I do anytime I use Ubuntu Server I know this is weird me saying this and please don't don't repeat this don't you go telling the internet that I said auntu is okay but it's just you and my so it's okay Ubuntu servers okay as long as you immediately disable snapd and you put an apt hold on the the snapd service totally okay at that point it's not great but at that point if you're just using the CLI service it's not a bad server drro and I do like some of their their cool stuff like live patch it has some decent business grade stuff in there that's that's not not bad and so I don't I don't mind a bunch of servers with some slight tweaks but obviously deian still still one of my favorite Fedora server get out out no we don't use Fedora [Laughter] server yeah I mean honestly like uh real real servers are are still pretty common you're going to run into re a lot maybe sentos 7 earlier in the Stream we were talking about cintos 7 cintos 7 still holds a special place in my heart rip still disappointed on that one I will remain disappointed probably for the next 10 years nah probably till I die I'm still disappointed in red hat for that I loved cnos it was what I started it was the very first Linux drro I ever did Centos of old not this bastardized version Red Hat wants you to believe is Centos that's not Centos Centos stream get out of here no that is not Centos that's an upstream bastardized version of it the true cintos was Downstream super stable one to one bug of RA Rock Solid ah I love Centos 7 chef's kiss but no more what about Rocky Linux so that's the thing like why the whole Red Hat ecosystem is just poison now is because Red Hat has known that they're going to be aggressive to all these Downstream dros so that includes Oracle Linux Alma Linux Rocky Linux I can't recommend any of these I like those dros don't mind don't don't don't misunderstand me here I like them but I can't recommend them anymore because Red Hat has let it known to the world they want them to die and they will do everything in their power to kill them that's wild and that's why you shouldn't that's why I'm like hey anything based on red hat stuff just I don't even show them I don't give them any coverage I don't even want to know about them anymore I just want to just forget about it in the professional Spirit you still will run into them don't don't misunderstand that but most things these days I think honestly deian will take over as it should be Community run dros is what I want to see and that's really why I I want to give them uh the most prominence Oracle 10 gig ISO file but it has all the packages uh NYX OS pres servers is so easy yeah once you get nyos set up like if you're deploying multiple servers uh NYX OS is really good in the business sphere as well I like I like them I like nyos especially for the reproducibility of it it's it's really good so if you're spinning up like a whole farm and you need Linux NYX OS is not a bad option yeah but headless of course yeah I've used nyos for like my daily driver just as more of a a goof to just kind of learn it more but that's not really a practical application of nyos it's not really what it was meant for it was really meant for uh Mass producing servers and maybe setting up like if you had a whole bunch of clients you wanted to toss Linux on you'd have like a client image that would just get deployed out to like a 100 computers and then everyone the same setup so that's really what NYX is for it's just for Mass reproducibility it's not really meant to Tinker at all it's just more for sis admins I would say oh look at this let's let's go desktop colors what's that look like let's go dark yes it's like the Fisher Price version of it's just so easy I don't like it it's too easy I don't have any problems you just hit install a child could do this I think actually I had my daughter do it on stream that's why I don't that's why I don't do Linux installs anymore I'm like yeah there's just no challenge just works too well look at that backups already set themes already set what about devices uh it's laggy because we're using uh VNC let's see if we can't fix that next here let's let's run our updates first we don't want to pull lus here and have a do as I say moment Let's uh let's run our appt updates that's one thing I don't understand like anytime you do a new install guys any any install I don't care if it's Windows Linux Mac whatever it is you let's say you get something new new shiny you get it installed the first thing you should do updates update the system let's let's switch to a local mirror it's prompting us to do that sure um right now it's doing that let's see what we got it automatically runs the speed test next is this new or did it always do this all right cool what about this one log out relog in is wh okay let's make sure we got qmu installed and then we'll go from there man where wherever Babylon is they're giving me 12 megabytes a second all right cs. u.edu all right well you got a good good server there Babylon we're going to be using you okay let's update our apt cach be like running a pseudo apt update all right oh nope cancel no dang it did did I just I accidentally just clicked that out oh well whatever moving on you see nothing system settings yeah we're not going to mess with that software manager yeah we could do Nala I like Nala still great firewall configuration now I want to rip it all apart yeah we're not going to Ena firewall all right cool um what do we got let's restart uh let's actually just go qmu or spice actually uh is spice installed let's see spice plugin for remina now n what what is it qmu agent do we have an agent here qmu guest agent so we'd probably do like a pseudo app to install guest agent hey that wasn't installed okay so that's going now let's give it a reboot oh vert GL works very well especially whan okay let's try vert GL let's let's see how fast we can get uh it feeling with a virtualized environment obviously we do need to get out of VNC and I do want to look at spice with Wayland And vert GL that'd be fun so we'll probably shut this down we'll go ahead and give it a reboot though stuff like me Linux server or Windows Server depends on what it is what am I trying to accomplish we already did the dialogue we can shut that guy down down shut down system now let's work on making this even better all right I like it so we got our Hardware we got our qmu now uh let's go options what kind of options do we have so we have guest agent enabled spice enhancements is what I want next um video streaming all to use these features set the display to Spice in the hardware settings of the VM okay so Hardware settings display let's edit graphics cards we can go spice dual monitor uh oh you guys said vert GL GPU uh as well Works dude let's try that let's let's go there um let's come back to spice actually in options my bad on that let's uh turn that off for now so let's try vgl and see how it does someone in chat's like go for it and let's try whand let's see how fast we can get the it to feel so let's start up the VM come back to our console Oh missing libraries for vergal uh all right let's let's research that missing libraries for vert Gil uh PV uh performance um B uh once an app install libgl oh what else do we need I think this should grab all the dependencies maybe not though okay now if I remember on this I think you could just go to like the PVE go to Shell paste huh okay apt update that D kind of Miss prox MOX um now I want to say say does that update work it just probably doesn't want to update the system we're just grabbing extra libraries so we're just updating the cache the failure is because proxmox likes to lock the versioning to specific ones you could force it to update but you really don't want to do that proxmox knows better than you what is stable what's not so we're not going to force any crazy updates here um oh we got a fixed subscription manager as well disabled Enterprise repository as well um where's that let's go oh because we don't have the subscription that's what you guys are saying uh do we have Vim Etc app sources.list oh we don't have Vim let's good VM kind of caveman do you expect me to use Nano or something [Laughter] gross yeah let's check out the repositories on here I'm kind of curious it's been a while since I looked at the Repository on prox MOX uh right now it's book worms uh main contrib uh so let's see what other ones do we have uh let's go sources list. D PV Enterprise list okay uh let's Vim PVE Enterprise list so this is just adding that uh for Enterprise users we could probably just remove this file and then if we do a APT update does that fix it uh we still have the Scythe Quincy one in here do I remove that as well you can change the repositories in the gooey ah nah the gooey is easier gooey no come on um what is the cyth Quincy uh repo I'm kind of curious do we have uh explanation on that it's a separate repo time to break Rock MOX speedrun here we go uh what is this was not able to update the repo so I think we can just remove it and say screw it let's go just for Scythe storage Scythe for Network file structures I'm only going to be using NFS is Scythe required for NFS if not we're going to remove it problems you know me everything's been too it's been too easy we've already got proxmox open we've already installed Min I want problems all right let's remove scth list that fix our updates perfect let's just do a bulk upgrade yes what's the worst that can happen ooh we need the no subscription repository okay let's check that repo actually think I can grab it over here ah yes the helper scripts ah monk mentioned this earlier um okay post install ah enabling no SC oh look at that it is just Des script copy all right well cool let's push that in bash I always like to just grab random bash scripts and run them off the internet what could go wrong yes yes yes yes add disabled PVE test repositor can give advanced users access to new features and sure yeah disable scription yes supporting that check the okay perfect okay disable High availability yeah we're not going to use high availability dude wow damn this makes it even easier all right chat good looking out chat you see I'm just sitting here bashing you guys but wow that's uh that's kind of cool not going to lie that's it's very cool what other scripts you got in here we got kernel clean processor micro code scaling what what's this one do clean unused kernels is beneficial for reducing uh the length of grub menu and freeing up disc space uh okay it might be good to run every once in a while what about this one processor micro code is a layer of low-level software that runs the processor provides patches updates uh-huh uh-huh it's important to note that availability of update mechanisms it is recommended consult the documentation blah blah blah uhhuh let's run it oh okay well here let's let's check to see in the if we got the micro code here I feel like we should just do this until something breaks man Legend all right cool is this shut down yeah cool it's not running oh oh crap did it start a new one oh no oh no get me back into my shell where's my old Shell a it asked for a reboot I'm sure it was done good to know though um if you're going to do this Pro tip don't browse away from your shell screen wow that kind of makes me want to just use the SSH into proxmox right yeah open shell in a new window yeah so good to know so if you do do this through the prox max virtual environment uh I highly recommend one don't browsing away like I just did that would be uh no bueno and two probably shouldn't even do it through the web I would personally probably just do in like an SSH environment let's set that up because yeah we we don't want problems with uh with this so we should be able to do like SSH rout at 10.0 do what was it five H yes and then our password in proxmox yeah so this is how I would do it I would just sh in um through through your terminal don't don't use their built-in shell garbage here that's just going to cause more problems and such that would not be good all right cool so that's done on to the next SCP all right first let's check our micro code ah IP ibpp extended micro code not applied well let's apply it ah check for the oh yeah proceed dude this guy is insane how cool is this uh which one do apply I guess we'll just apply the latest and greatest right man that is slick okay reboot all right reboot and we'll try it again this is really neat though have you guys seen like YouTube videos with this because damn someone's had to do video highlighting this guy's work right because if you're using proxmox in a home lab and you're not running these scripts bro you're really missing out I remember doing all these tweaks and it took me like hours to research all this crap all right somebody somebody like probably like techno Tim or somebody online has got to had to make a video about this right I say that because if not I'm going to make the video about it h i take everything back oh my all right let's let's check check this out let's let's reconnect oh did everybody quit YouTube I have noticed My Views going up so I just assume that's that's good news all right um n it said it still hasn't been applied H sad face the IP PP extending micro well I guess let's rerun it then huh micro code let's try this package we do we did the other package it didn't work so let's do this package let's see if we can break this thing too using these scripts I'd totally be okay with that as well all right reboot again if it's worth changing hard drives to from EXT to ZFS uh you can I don't know if it's worth it per se not from a performance standpoint going from ext4 to ZFS ZFS has a really beneficial for like Atomic like backups and and snapshots so CFS is amazing from a restored point of view much like better FS but if backups and those types of things don't matter to you or maybe redundancy um I would say ZFS is obviously a little bit more if you're packaging up a bunch of dries into like a logical volume using ZFS definitely worth doing but if you're just using one drive switching from exd4 to ZFS is uh pointless in my opinion all right now do we have uh nah okay well micro code never got applied still a cool script I bet that would work it's probably just such a new new hardware that is not scaling Governor the CPU scaling Governor depends the CPU based on workload with the goal of conserving power or improving service by scaling the frequency up or down the operating system can optimize the CPU is usage and conserve energy all right let's try it we're just going to run all the scripts yes power save set up cron tab sure huh that's it so what did it do to my cron tab ah gross all right so every 60 seconds it's doing power save and then teting scaling Governor okay H uh oh on reboot so at reboot it does that okay interesting all right next up lxc cleaner provides option to delete logs and cache I really don't care it's new uh lxc updater script to simplify and speed up the process of updating all ACC containers across various distributions oh that's cool I get to see that be nice we just installed everything so it doesn't really matter Kon lxc updater um let's see updates all lxc every Sunday at midnight ah nice monitor all host back what wait what what was monitor all oh I like that let's uh add it to make changes first start the service oh just to make setup changes yeah we'll just go with whatever the defaults are add yes cool host backup O A Dark theme all right let's grab the Dark theme I'm sorry guys I'm just fully fully nerding out on these scripts I'm like ah this looks neat Somebody went way above and beyond here what else we got home assistant automation database oo oh you know what I do need to do like a postris database the other day I was talking about doing like a d Vinci resolve postris database so I could share and edit on like three different machines so I could be in bed on my laptop I could be inside on my little production machine or I could be out here and all my all my stuff would be there so I probably will set up something like that but not today uh Dockers kubernetes right now I'm doing that on I probably we need to move some stuff over turn key add blocker DNS it's like a pie hole probably yeah there's a pie hole that's cool not going to really use that dashboards dashy Homer Olive tin you know I kind of wanted to set up uh there's a good little start page I'm trying to think uh I can't remember what the dashboard was to monitor all servers on the network I meant to set something up as a start page for that uh file code miscellaneous oh that's so cool there's a lot of stuff here a lot of love went into this gotta say this guy um deserves a spot in my projects full older cuz Lord that's so cool two people linked it too wow all right cool so anyways we now have our dark it already changed it too um let's try and see if it uh does the verl somehow I got add and completely uh Lost In The Weeds there for a second uh but we're doing display for the hardware vert GL let's see if that launches now see if we got fast is that error or does it start oh looks like it actually started this time so if we connect yeah let's try whand as well uh on verg and see what we get do we get anything oh there we go okay I was about to say do we get anything oh yeah yeah Wayland let's let's do whand uh sometimes I get lost you got to remind me of these things things all right so we got cinnamon default cinnamon on whand let's try it out okay perfect look at that much more responsive yeah that verg L with whan look at that yeah that's pretty pretty near native oh oh that feels good all right let's uh fix this up shall we yes keep new configuration oh I like it all right let's give it a reboot way snappier so vergia with whand and like a qmu agent that's kind of uh kind of amazing yeah also works on Alex X11 as well yeah and we're still in the browser too using vert viewer would be a better scenario here as well I agree with that so you'd set up like if you're using L Linux install I probably just set up like a little shortcut and go from there man that feels good most people wouldn't even know we got Firefox let's just do Neo fetch o that is sexy very clean yeah not bad try the tray icons I think we got pretty much everything I mean this is about as simple as you get I mean we really didn't really didn't change very much it just works right out of the box so it kind of boring you know me I kind of like a challenge I like things to not work usually and then I can Tinker around with them let's see what the software sources are oh it's not working on the software sources I might have broken something already let's see huh let's try YouTube out I kind of want to see if it can play uh Play video very well all right cool this is the stock YouTube experience with no login meet gorgeous Latino women H You Stay classy got the premium lock up it looks pretty good all right uh all right all right works pretty pretty fast pretty Snappy and this is still in the browser too so what vert viewer looks like and just to kind of showcase that uh what what Hardware are we looking at does the summary give us an IP yeah we're 187 so what we can do here with vert viewer I believe let's I I don't think I've ever used vert viewer on uh Windows let's try it out windows installer oh uh no audio yet I think if we go through vert viewer we can pass through the audio uh we can look at that so with vert viewer in let's try did it install here probably not huh maybe they put under spice no h remote viewer is what they call it all right so then we just put in our address of the VM 187 let's try to connect unable to connect okay let's try spice colon sl10 do0 do 187 and then we'll try the 5900 port for VNC maybe no maybe it's open over here oh no it was shut down oh I did oh I did 197 oops I fat fingered it all right let's try it again spice colon SL SL 187 colon 5900 which is basic BNC no denied uh you know I don't think I've ever done a ver GL vert viewer maybe I'm doing it wrong oh it actually can do it right here so if you're right here you can go more and you can go spice and then click this yeah okay yeah we're in business now thank you that's much [Laughter] easier yeah okay let's let's try it again this time what do we have for still don't have the volume sound settings passing through volume might be interesting we don't obviously have anything right here so there's a couple ways to skin that cat I probably would do like a Network volume device and then pull that into like my stream PC I've done that before for my PCI pass through that's one way to do it there's probably an easier way to do like a straight pass through by modifying the hardware but uh yeah let's let's go uh wrist Titus attch let's just grab that one see we have a video here we go yeah okay so that that works pretty smooth it's a little bit smoother y you can't even see me because I'm in the same spot haha but yeah that's funny okay all all that within a certain one go to Hardware add audio device is it that simple man everything's so simple on this stream back in my day this was so much harder oh you youngans got it too easy these days just add Sound audio device add really is that it okay we'll start it up all right try spice now yeah so right here okay there there was audio really let's see God it's pretty slick it's a new dawn the tool I've been developing for pretty much the past year maybe year and a half has really taken a massive transformation today and I wanted to completely revamp it it's a whole new project because I've added a lot to it let's jump right into it wow well I'm impressed just a click away done wow got a little click on the shutdown dang well there's not really anything else I want to do that's uh that's pretty simple it's pretty straight forward I don't think you can ask for a more simple setup and with those darn scripts you guys had me run cheese cheese and crackers that is an amazing setup with prox MOX I I mean I get I get why every home labber has it installed now that seems just stupid simple yeah uh yeah it'll be on Titus Tech talk uh dark sky um probably I probably will cut out the X N we'll probably leave the XC PNG stuff in there I hate to do it though but it just didn't work on this one just because it needed a 6.4 kernel and above and it's just too old I was like all right well time to Pivot we can't get that going yeah and I I will say I'm I'm not even upset about the xcp and not working because X xcp and is not very good for a lot of the visual stuff specifically what I was planning on doing with prox MOX was using spice instead of verl but verg's gotten so darn good and if you just install the drivers which I did on this video or this live stream which I've never used before and and then just use uh vert viewer with a spice client dude that was like unbelievably simple like I'm still like in disbelief we didn't have really any problems Linux Mint just came right up uh I did grab I I did need to manually grab the qmu guest agent um but other than that I mean everything else worked so darn good I mean it was just blam done and uh yeah server load CPU usage not even didn't even touch it dude I kind of makes me want to see what's possible maybe get like an egpu for it or something but uh yeah using that with the proxmox setup I I just don't see I don't see why as a home labber or someone that has something set up I I don't know why you'd even bother with anything else we do have 16 C visual C uh vcpus for virtual CPUs with one socket 32 gigs on this this little box so we can we can spin up whatever we want and uh I like the layout they have here too I don't know if this was part of it or not but man we didn't even touch any any usage memory usage you can see uh there was a little bit during the install where we maxed out the memory but not much server load never got above really one or two and network traffic also very low um we could also look at taking this in the network side of things and doing like Nick teaming or uh uh Network bonding you know maybe increase it a little bit but with 2.5 gigs I don't really think I'll really touch that very much we could also do like a 10 gig connector as well expand it out a little bit more if we had um any kind of trans for issues but for the most part I don't I don't see the issue yeah I I think uh doing so you just immediately go vert go for creation and then use vert viewer for a better install experience I like that dubs I think that's good and UEFI not see C bios that makes sense what are you going to use the server for uh Plex probably that's kind of what the whole whole purpose of it was but also like if I want to explore a new Dro coming in having something like this setup it gives you a lot of uh flexibility where we can just do it I can record it and uh you can just see it in a more steady state instead of using like a a software based virtualization I I like having like a dedicated Hardware the dedicated host to virtualization it does give a better virtualization experience but even still like uh if I was in Linux using qmu I still love that too but like VMR works on this system and other things it's okay but it's not my favorite i' much rather use a host like a prox MOX here quick question how do I add another SSD for image could you show it yeah so if you're going to add stuff to it um this PVE is the host so that's that one box back there that I was powering up the data center is like connected storage on top of it so you click data center come to storage and then you would add uh on that now data center is not on the actual machine itself this is extra stuff so I wanted to add NFS share so I just hit NFS Most people don't have NFS set up you should but I understand you don't so most people do like a s or SMB sifts share and that's good um I used to do this all the time before NFS uh I used to use ice scuzzy targets a lot ice cuzi is more difficult to set up to the point where it's like hey it's not really worth it for the average person most home libr should just use NFS but if you like let's say you're going into networking and you want to eventually get to like a high-end Data Center and really maximize things and you want to get away from NFS you could probably do ice scuzzy targets still with uh something called multipathing and Link aggregation so it's it's kind of a multifaceted more than one ethernet connection connecting to the the storage area network and then on top of that you'd have link aggregation from a switch level which basically takes that and kind of binds like parts of your scpt switch to accept all this data coming through these multiple cables so you can really get kind of crazy with it uh I don't really recommend doing that anymore because heck I you can do like 40 gig cables now to where having multiple cables is still kind of nice for redundancy but you just don't really see it much anymore I think that's probably a diing thing most people these days probably just hook up really fast cables and just throw toss an NFS and go done and and I there no hate on that it is simple and it is very tried andrue where most people where I've seen ice guzi sets up more often than not they screw it up yes I know the little box has a better CPU than my main system I'm eventually going to upgrade here guys I'm just waiting for Intel to drop the new chip no I'm not swapping this one's fine for now you want to try srov yeah srov will be interesting especially when you come into uh I think the new apus from Intel should be srov compliant hopefully and then we can carve up those that would be sweet oh my God I love that but uh don't want to put the cart before the horse here I don't know I don't know if that's actually going to happen I've I've I've been hyped up so much on sov and been let down every single time by AMD and Nvidia that I'm like I just don't know if it'll ever come to us uh people that aren't spending 10,000 Plus on a new GPU so maybe maybe swap the CPU well Peter also this is a 78 840 that's an integrated onboard soldered CPU so I'm not about to unsolder that and then try and figure out how to you know rebol my system in there and put that in that would be ridiculous uh but yes uh the belink little tiny box is a Powerhouse for what it is I did a video on it and I did that video just so I could get that piece of hardware and I wanted to use it for something like this a bit of soldering shouldn't stop you that's true hasn't stopped me in the past uh good odd of breaking good for the stream I remember the last stream we did was a hardware one it was a bit of a disaster my son's laptop started crapping out and we had to uh remove the uh heat sink and all the all the screws were stripped on it it was like a 10-year-old laptop and we ended up breaking out the Dremel tool and amazingly after we got done with the stream like it broke on stream as soon as we plugged the power cable in and powered it up everything worked great so we did everything right on that stream but man that was a that was a crazy stream with sparks flying everywhere and uh it was actually ended up perfect pretty uh happy ending at the end of even though you didn't see it on stream could you show you how you add wind fetch uh to start up with powers shell I think I did a video on it uh gaming check out pretty Powershell if you go to uh actually I think I have a article on Chris titus. comom for it let's see uh pretty Powell here I'll just link this this will get you get you what you want that article uh kind of showcases how I do a lot of my visualizations but also uh the cool thing about this uh is fixing the syntax there's a lot of things Linux terminal does that are just amazing and Powershell should do but Microsoft just can't be bothered to make things easy for their users so uh I have a online script going over Powershell and kind of how I add a lot of just normal things to Powershell like I'm always using disc free or DF in the Linux so a lot of times when I'm in Windows and I like oh you know what what what am I what are my discs doing and then I like okay here's what all I got here's the size here's how much is remaining on each disc and it's just a really easy way to kind of see see your system at a glance and a lot of it's just grabbing uh those Linux things and then writing a Powershell thing because it get volumes how you do it there but uh there's a lot of other things like using said and witch and Export and peill and there's just so many things things that poell does and they it they do it pretty well for Windows it's just they make it so unuser friendly that you have to use the guey and that's what leads people to say there's a guey component you could do it just in the guey and I'm like yeah but it's still faster in the CLI and this is where a lot of things are faster in the CLI wi set up properly especially on Windows Linux most times the CLI wins almost every time right uh but in Windows this gooey wins a lot of times but it's it's that way because of the aseni and just craziness about how Microsoft sets up power I'm not going to go on a huge rant about Powershell I like Powershell but damn it they could make it so much better like oh people just don't realize they just scratched like a 1% surface of how good it could be and uh yeah that's that's what that script does just just should make it easier so uh LSB on Windows not really anything Peter I guess if I was going to do LSP okay on Windows you're you're going to throw something at your screen when I do this but I mean I don't I don't even know what this is going to do but let's let's do it now it be okay uh ah what is going on ah didn't it didn't really give me much uh kind of little bit not not not the not the readout that I need yeah still still giving it system access from here is the best way to do it there's ways to pass stuff through to WSL to do it but yeah there's not a good good counterpart to it it kind of works uh Microsoft don't want people to switch to CLI so Linux won't be an option for probably I don't know I don't think they I don't think they think that far ahead of now make a working file explorer gooey yeah storage space I don't know doesn't dolphin dolphin and gnome have actually pretty decent ones Nemo's not bad either I want to say they do have options to show uh file space left I like I like the file managers in Linux a lot better than this God aul behemoth God could file explorer suck anymore the only thing worse than File Explorer on Windows is finder on Mac I have such disdain for both especially since they added this tabs BS gross so don't Don't Preach to me about Linux file manager sucking because trust me it can't suck as hard as file explore on Windows and nothing can suck as bad as finder on Mac that thing no there's no Saving Grace for finder on Mac terrible just the entire thing should be scrapped and they should start over again anyways all right I think we've done enough at this point I'm just ranting on and on uh this was a really fun successful stream with proxmox I think we're going to call it here a blast absolute blast so great I absolutely love uh this setup and I definitely will be utilizing this a lot more specifically when I'm in something and I'm like hey I need a Linux Mint I need a Debian or I need this specific version I can just spin up a new VM in the just base PVE host and then just go okay boom there it is and then I'm good to go so all right guys what a fun one I had a blast everything just worked today what a good stream what a good stream all right leave it there peace
