XCOM Lore: The Invasion (XCOM 2 and WoTC Timeline)

in 1993 the council of nations met secretly to plan in the event of extraterrestrial contact several contingencies were proposed in the case of hostile contact with alien life forms what came from those meetings was an international initiative called the x-com project the very best humanity had to offer from all nations of the world scientists engineers military personnel and technology all came together for one purpose survive adapt win they would fight the alien threat in secret reverse engineering the invaders technology and using it to defeat them the proposal was approved and the council of nations made all the immediate investments to produce the framework of the project and then it laid dormant for 22 years until early february 2015 a series of long distance scans revealed several large unidentified flying objects approaching earth the council of nations met to vote and on february 10 the x-com project was activated the organization mobilized [Music] [Music] march 1 2015 is considered by many to mark when the invasion commenced although there are reports of contact sooner or even later for some the order of events around this time frame gets conflicted due to the communications being disrupted have to remember it was a very chaotic time alien scouting parties landed and made contact with bundeswehr troops in germany x-com responded to the attack by sending in delta squad it was here x-com would come into first contact with the alien threat and see the depths of their power what the hell is soon after the aliens opened a barrage from orbit targeting the major cities they launched these things called fog pods that let loose some sort of toxin gas that incapacitates and entraps their victims in some sort of webbing meanwhile engaging in a ground war in several major world cities in a matter of hours it was a full-scale invasion and the war had begun new york sao paulo and shanghai fell london fell after being decimated by heavy fighting berlin soon after chicago and moscow had fallen paris was classed by ufos earth's major cities were left in ruins from bombardment and ground fighting after a few weeks of open hostilities the council of nations voted to surrender in less than two months the aliens had overwhelmed earth's forces and the planet was theirs a peace treaty was made with a handful of world leaders and a ceasefire was declared but while the council had surrendered excom had not they alone kept fighting the project would suffer financial losses but the plan to work in secret continued until xcom suffered its most devastating blow x-com base was attacked by the invaders the base's location was betrayed by some of the world leaders and its security was compromised from within by psionically mind-controlled personnel this is central security status red repeat what have you done answer me sir we're picking up movement near the outer perimeter multiple sensors have been tripped we have a breach in the chaos the mission control was breached and the commander was taken without the commander x-com was effectively shattered the headquarters was leveled and the survivors if any dispersed what followed was a period of isolation and uncertainty for most of the developed world resistant cells stayed in contact through short-range radio and lawlessness ruled the world until july 2015 advent was proposed by a coalition of old world governments to act in the name of the aliens they agreed and for the next 20 years humanity achieved utopian levels of peace advent acted as the ruling government of the world creating city centers offering gene therapy clinics to eliminate nearly all disease and ushered in a new life rebuilding the destruction caused by the misunderstanding of the old governments feeding its citizens a steady supply of propaganda and repainting x-com as extremists who misunderstood the aliens message of peace with this came the newest creation alien human hybrids who make up the bulk of advent's military and peacekeeping forces [Music] there's so much more to cover from here from the aliens to the factions to the chosen to the heroes within the resistance so until then stay tuned and stay vigilant [Music] you

As a player who began wit the first game in the Nineties right up to WOTC, I relly enjoyed that and I look forward to the next episode !
