from a moral standpoint ethically speaking Yeah of course they should millions of people have invested thousands of dollars buying hundreds of games in the Xbox ecosystem all under the assumption that this thing the Xbox won't simply cease to exist mikrosoft he's a big company big company got lots of money and you know I think that they have an obligation to the consumer to keep this Xbox train chugging along but from a financial standpoint from a logical standpoint does it make sense for Microsoft to make yet another Xbox hm that's a toughy I've been thinking about this for a while and I will admit it is quite a conundrum but after much research and consideration and contemplation I have come to the conclusion that monley is a terrific application that you can use right now to learn new languages it has over 125 million users and it's in the top five language learning apps worldwide access up to 41 foreign languages from 33 native languages resulting in a total of 1,300 120 language combinations that's a lot it's a fun and easy way to learn a valuable life skill the app has daily lessons along with weekly and monthly quizzes so you can recap on what you've learned the lessons focus on practical content that you can actually use in your everyday life the lessons and audio materials are recorded with fluent speakers which ensure authenticity in correct accent formation I think this is a great way to learn a new language or brush up on stuff you might have forgotten since your school days monley is currently hosting a summer sale providing a 96% discount and that's just the tip of the iceberg but even still Phil Spencer Head of Microsoft Gam is saying that Xbox has more console users right now than they've ever had before and that is missleading the current Xboxes on the market the Xbox series X and Series S haven't really been selling that well overall the PS5 has outsold the Xbox series X and Series S combined by a ratio of 2 to one and recently this number might be closer to like 5 to one and 2/3 of all of those Xbox sales are just for the cheaper box the series s not the series X which is supposed to be the ps5s direct competitor even by Xbox standards this is pretty awful you might remember that the Xbox One launch was a complete disaster yet somehow that thing still sold more units in its first 3 years on the market than the Xbox series consoles have been able to even Microsoft themselves have admitted that they just can't win the console war ever too many people have already built up their digital libraries on the PlayStation Network and nothing is going to convince people to jump ship at this point this might sound very dire very UNG good and it's it is it is UNG good but somehow Against All Odds Microsoft's gaming division is actually making more money now than it was before but this isn't because of Xbox it's because Microsoft broke open their piggy bank and spent a lot of money to buy Activision Blizzard and with it got Call of Duty and OverWatch and Diablo and Candy Crush and Cabella's African safari and all of these titles are actually more popular on platforms like the mobile phones or the computers or the PlayStations than they are on the Xbox this means that most of the growth that Microsoft gaming is experiencing right now doesn't even come from Xbox so yeah like I said Xbox ain't in a great place right now but at the same time the console industry as a whole is having its fair share of issues I've talked about this before but the console industry is a bit stagnant yeah the gaming industry is growing lots of Publishers are making more money than they've ever made before but that's mostly because people are buying more microtransactions in purchases and fortnite skins than they've ever bought before if you look at the total number of game consoles sold by Sony and Microsoft between the seventh and eighth Generations there just wasn't much growth which is very concerning when you consider that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One received mid generation refreshes so some users double dipped in short this suggests that the total number of people playing on these consoles is either stagnating or decreasing maybe more console gamers are deciding to move over to PC gaming or maybe a younger generation is just more interested in phone games but regardless of why this is happening it's not something that investors like to see if you've ever wondered why Sony is putting some of its exclusive games on the PC it's because of this very problem they're just scared that the console Market won't continue to grow and so now it's time to expand to new platforms and Microsoft seems really eager to expand to as many platforms as possible so back in January 2024 a mysterious Discord users seem to leak a lot of details about an upcoming Xbox showcase leaks that turned out to be as far as we could tell mostly true alongside these leaks for the Showcase the user also mentioned that Microsoft was planning on making their XBox exclusive titles available on other consoles see while Microsoft has put some of its titles on PlayStation and Nintendo before it's usually been because of existing contractual agreements or because a game series was already popular on those platforms before Microsoft decided to buy them up this leak though suggested a new strategy and rumors began to swirl that every XBox exclusive from Gears of War to Viva Pinata was going to make it over to the PlayStation after a few weeks of chaos and confusion within the Xbox Community Microsoft finally admitted that four Xbox first-party games were coming over to other platforms and this was according to them something of a test later we would learn that this was actually the first steps in a new initiative to bring Xbox games to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms that is being internally referred to as project latitude as the game sea of Thieves has done exceptionally well on the PlayStation from the way it sounds more games are coming and according to Phil himself nothing is off the table so there is an obvious flaw with Microsoft's brilliant plan right if the Xbox plays the Xbox games and the PlayStation plays the PlayStation and the Xbox games most people will probably decide to just buy the PlayStation going forward yeah sure a few million devoted users might decide to stick around just for Xbox game pass but well that's a whole other issue to be honest and I'm not even going to get into that to today historical precedent tells us that when a console manufacturer starts bringing over their games to competing consoles it probably means that they're getting ready to get out of the hardware business but even with all this uncertainty Microsoft seems pretty certain that it's going to try and make another Xbox so the first Rumblings of a new Xbox came from a leak during the Federal Trade commission's battle against Microsoft over the Activision acquisition as you can see this slide shows Microsoft patting itself on the back about Innovations it had created for each console generation but the interesting part is this reference to a future console intended for release in 2028 apparently this thing would have Cloud hybrid games and an immersive game and app platform wow exciting it's safe to assume that some of these plans maybe all of them have probably definitely hopefully changed see other slides in this leak included a cylindrical adorably All Digital Xbox series X that never quite came to fruition with the actual digital series X never being cylindrical nor all that adorable back when these 2028 plans were first drawn up Microsoft and Xbox were in a very different place they seemed to believe that cloud gaming was the future that it was going to get them billions of users and they also probably expected that the series X and Series S would sell a lot better than they actually ended up selling so yeah these plants probably not happening but even still it does seem like they are making a new Xbox Microsoft has reiterated this several times throughout 2024 head of Xbox Sarah Bond claims that the next console generation will have the largest technical leap of any generation ever that's uh that's a bold statement that's stupid I mean are you saying that this new Xbox is going to be a bigger leap than like 2D to 3D gaming from Super Mario World to Super Mario 64 because that's a big jump that is a big that was a big leap I don't know she's probably just talking about AI or something anyway it doesn't really matter it's probably like an AI that tells you how to make a pickaxe and Minecraft Beyond a few details that I'll get to in a bit we just don't know a whole lot about about any nextg Xbox well except for the fact that there might be a handheld involved now this isn't confirmed it's not 100% official but it is pretty much as confirmed as something can get without being confirmed that's confusing Phil Spencer just keeps talking about this thing how much he wants an Xbox handheld and he has made no attempts to hide the fact that this is likely a thing in development yeah don't expect this to be like a Game Boy or a Nintendo DS there probably isn't going to be any unique games designed specifically for this device games nowadays just cost too much money and take too long to make to justify them releasing on only one device that might only sell 20 or or 10 or 2 million units but at the same time I don't expect this to be a portable Xbox series console either in Xbox series P if you will so right now we got the Xbox series X and the cheaper albeit less powerful Xbox series s Microsoft has a rule that if you make a game for the series X it also has to be released on the series s and this has caused some problems in the past see there's just some stuff that the series X can do that the series s can't do making it kind of hard for some developers to Port their games over without making special considerations or optimizations for the series s specifically now this one would it be a huge problem if more people were playing on these boxes but like I talked about they're not so introducing a third box a portable Xbox with its own set of specifications would just make game development even more complicated then it already is in response developers and Publishers could just say okay we're not going to support the Xbox anymore we're not going to deal with all of this and that's probably not a risk that Microsoft want to take but none of this would be an issue if the Xbox handheld was really a handheld PC a computer okay so all Xboxes released thus far have already ran Windows well kind of I'm going to simplify things here a bit but yeah all Xboxes run a modified Windows operating system and for good reason I design Windows has to be a jack of all trades master of none sort of operating system game consoles while capable of doing quite a lot of things prioritize gaming first and foremost so to get Peak Performance Xbox runs a slim down version of Windows this allows something like the Xbox series X to be a very capable gaming machine even though on paper it's GPU and CPU and bloy blue specifications aren't that impressive if they were to be compared to something like a high-end gaming PC this is one of the reasons why Xbox has never had the full Windows operating system available on it before another reason is cost game consoles are generally sold for less money than they cost to make generally the original PlayStation 3 for example was sold for hundreds of dollars less than it cost to manufacture a console manufacturer will expect to make up for these losses through the sale of games and DLC and microtransactions and accessories and subscription service and because of these two reasons I've always just assumed that a console running Windows was probably not going to happen but I think it's going to happen Phil Spencer has said that he really really wants the next Xbox to host other gaming storefronts so yeah users wouldn't just have access to the Xbox store and the Xbox games but the epic game store or steam now this sounds completely illogical considering everything we know about how game consoles make money because it it is but it would make a lot of sense for a Windows handheld gaming PC now a lot of these already exist the Rog Ali the Lenovo go these both seem to be direct Inspirations for a potential handheld Xbox and yeah these things are kind of expensive but not as much as you might think they would be considering they are sold for a profit Phil Spencer says that he loves these devices but he also admits that they have some problems windows isn't designed to be used on a handheld gaming device but Microsoft is in a position where they could update Windows or create a new version of Windows to work better on these handheld devices and that seems to be something that they're considering this would be essential for something like a handheld Xbox a handheld Xbox PC to exist yeah it sounds like Microsoft just wants to take gaming PCs and Xbox and smush them together which I think could be a very good idea or a bad idea so personally I don't find PC gaming all that complicated probably cuz I got such a big brain but one of the big complaints I hear about PC gaming is that it's more frustrating than the plug andplay world of game consoles see people get scared when they realize they have to download drivers or figure out what anti-aliasing is what is a ram and how do I make it why did my game Crash why is my computer on fire why is my house on fire a lot of people aren't aware that you can connect a computer to a TV that you can use a mouse and a keyboard wirelessly on your couch in your living room or even plug in a controller but even if they were aware of all of these things PCS still can't compete with the convenience of pressing the button and playing the game that the consoles are so well known for but a lot of people are getting more willing to learn about PC gaming because the benefits have made them a much more attractive offering in the past few years you don't have to pay to play games online you can get games cheaper you have more freedom to use What accessories and controllers you want you can prioritize frame rate or resolution and it just has a lot more games and considering Microsoft makes windows it would make sense that Microsoft would want to lower the barrier of entry for PC gaming to try and get people who would normally only stick with consoles to maybe dip their toes into all of this of course none of this is wholly altruistic right Microsoft's just not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts there's been some competition Brewing I'm sure many of you out there have been screaming into your keyboards about valves steam deck now for those not in the no the steam deck is a relatively popular handheld computer thingy it is a simple and generally inexpensive entry point into PC gaming and a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't get gaming PCs can now play PC games without a PC and Microsoft is probably not too enthusiastic about this thing because you see it doesn't run Windows not by defaults at least it runs a different operating system Linux or a version of Linux with steam being quite popular and the steam deck being Rel atively popular there is a nonzero chance that if valve gets more ambitious with its Hardware offerings in the future and Microsoft continues ruining windows we could see more and more people playing computer games on Linux as opposed to Windows that might sound unrealistic right now but I'm sure Microsoft sees this as a legitimate threat I mean the only reason Xbox even exists right now the only reason the Xbox console was green lit by Microsoft in the first place was because Sony claimed that the PlayStation 2 would run Linux and that it could potentially replace the home computer this scared Microsoft so much that they decided to make their own game console an Xbox handheld gaming PC makes a lot of sense as a project Microsoft might pursue as this would offer a convenience Windows alternative to the Linux powered steam deck this would also solve the multi-platform problem that Microsoft might end up having in a few years in the future some Xbox games might be on Playstation but some PlayStation games might be on Xbox or at least steam but they'd be on Xbox if XBox has steam pretty sneaky so should Microsoft make another Xbox yes and no this Xbox handheld that it seems Microsoft is planning doesn't really sound like a game console or an Xbox and any way beyond the name itself it is a hand handheld PC and even if the user interface is more convenient and simplistic and familiar to console users that wouldn't change the fact that all the games that this thing could play could also be played on other PCS something I've been wondering is whether this handheld is the only upcoming Xbox or are they working on other form factors like are they making an actual box that plugs into a TV I don't expect a series X2 or a series S2 I really just can't imagine Microsoft trying the whole traditional console thing ever again but they still might be interested in getting a box into the living room as I mentioned earlier there was that Discord Post in early 2024 that seemed to accurately leak a lot of stuff Microsoft was about to do and this also included a description of very interesting NextGen Xbox plants according to the leak microsof was in talk with some thirdparty manufacturers to make their own versions of Xbox consoles leak doesn't exactly explain how this might work comparing it more to third party controllers but we would have to assume that the Xbox would be a set of minimum specifications that manufacturers like HP Dell and anybody else could Target to make their own Xbox now this concept has been attempted before unsuccessfully back in the '90s the 3dio platform allowed any manufacturer to make their own console as did the steam machines from just a few years back both were notorious failures the 3dio was too expensive as the Box needed to be sold for a profit since the hardware could not be subsidized through software sales it cost too much the steam machine ran Linux and at the time valve didn't offer a great Windows compatibility tool meaning that the hardware was both expensive and the boxes had a very limited software Library these are two problems that the Xbox handheld might not have but it's possible that Microsoft could even decide to sell this Xbox Windows handheld for a loss some of you might know that the steam deck is actually sold for a loss which seems to go against all traditional game console logic I mean you could install Windows on this thing you can play games that are not purchased from Steam games that valve will not make any money from because they assume that those who buy a steam deck will be more likely to buy more games to play on their steam deck games they buy from Steam this would in theory make up for losing money on the hardware if Microsoft was producing a nextg Xbox handheld or Home console that manages to run Steam and epic games and Gog and whatever it could still make Financial sense to sell this at a loss or just with very small margins if they expect to boost Xbox game pass subscriptions in sales for Xbox games simply by selling this device what gets a little bit more confusing is if those third part parties start making Xbox compatible Hardware sure it could be in the same way that Microsoft has already been pushing its AI PCS that meet certain minimum specifications but is there really a market for a $1,200 alien wear Xbox I don't know I don't know but maybe we'll find out someday this is Uncharted Territory it's just speculation but honestly I think at least some of this makes a good deal of sense even still I think a few questions will need to be answered like backwards compatibility right now the Xbox series X can play OG XBox games XBox 360 games Xbox One games all through backwards compatibility but that feature might not be as fully flushed out if XBox moves to Windows or a new variant of Windows I mean look things are going to get pretty confusing for people if they own the Xbox 360 version of Black Flag but they can't play the PC vers version of black flag on their XBox handheld but it runs on their series X but licensing issues restrict it from running on their Xbox game boy it's it could be a mess this could be a mess but it does sound like to some degree Microsoft is working on this problem maybe hopefully and as for Windows would this handheld have access to the full windows or would it just be a slightly more opened up version of Windows that the Xbox already has that might limit the potential of this thing as a portable PC might not be able to make your Excel spreadsheets on this but it might improve its usefulness as a handheld gaming device either way I just think making another traditional Xbox trying the same old thing once again it's a bad idea on the other hand making a Xbox PC hybrid handheld gaming thing I mean I I guess it's something new it's interesting they could expand a small Niche within the gaming industry and maybe that's where X needs to be right now so yeah if this is what Microsoft plans on doing I think there's actually a lot of potential here that is assuming that Microsoft doesn't mess it all up and let's be honest they probably will they definitely will once again huge thanks to Manley for sponsoring this video learn a new language with a 96% discount for Lifetime access to all languages with the monley summer sale access this sale
