hello and welcome to another video on the channel this one is a flight model test you have no idea how long it took to do this but on the bottom you've got x-plane 12 on the top microsoft flights later both using the default 172 we are using real weather in both sims and they can see it's actually uh pretty spot on we've just taken off there at 55 to 60 knots rotation that's exactly what the real thing is like and as i would track the flaps you can see both aircraft respond appropriately now it's worth noting that i've also seeked help from my pilot friend who flies setters and pipers all day long and i'll let you know his thoughts at the end of the video so as you can see here as we're looking at both sims back to back i'm quite surprised how much better x-plane 12 looks in terms of its lighting it makes you realize that microsoft flight simulator is way too oversaturated anyway that's not what this test is about so but as you can see as we're climbing the default microsoft flight simulator version has a bit more power and i asked my pilot friend about this and with his tests he seems to think that is spot on and that kind of makes sense since microsoft likes later relies not just on lookup tables but also the aerodynamic behavior of the aircraft that is new and it definitely is shown here right we're now going to do a steep turn this is very difficult to do especially when you're not in vr and especially when you're trying to do the same thing on two different flight sims but you can see here um the rudder input that i'm needing to make which you probably won't know because you can't see that from the screen is pretty much again spot on with both sims also the behavior within the turn also feels very similar if anything i found it harder in microsoft flight simulator because i was moving around in the air a lot more something we've never seen in previous iterations which means i was wrong about something very crucial which i'm going to tell you after a quick word from our sponsor this video is proudly sponsored by vr wave which are a tailor-made prescription lens insert provider that correct for nearsightedness far sightedness and any astigmatism you may have now even if you don't wear glasses it's very important to protect your lenses and also have a blue light filter to protect your eyes as well i have a five percent discount code go grab it now while it's still available okay folks so welcome back we're now going to do a spin remember x planes on the bottom microsoft flight split is on the top and check this out look at x-plane and there we go look at that snap of the wing i think that's actually far too abrupt for 172 and that is confirmed also by my real world pilot friend who's been really useful in this test if you're watching this thank you so much for all your help but i think overall it does show that both are extremely realistic and pretty much on par with each other this is now a very slow stall just feeding off the power but keeping the wings level look at this this is amazing there microsoft flights later it breaks first with the right wing and again x plane always by the way drops with the left wing now keep in mind that's because the environmental factors in microsoft flight simulator changes all the time i have to say though i do think x-plane 12 has better adverse yaw and you can see here that i'm kicking some rudder in now and i'm now going to try a side slip something that x-plane used to really struggle with but i was quite surprised to see that uh using opposite controls that is a sort of left aileron and right rudder to really slow the aircraft down works a treat in both sims so there you are folks i hope you found that really interesting i certainly did and realized i was quite wrong about x-plane 12. i actually think that microsoft flights later is absolutely pretty much on par in terms of the sort of physics and the way the aircraft sits in the air there's certainly a lot more movement as well compared to x-plane which actually if anything feels more like flying on rails these days so really what kind of conclusion can we draw from this because we have to be realistic with this test which is a very basic general handling sort of environment for a cessna 172. there's other things to consider like tail dragon physics asymmetric thrust um things like the turbine of an engine how it changes dependent upon the atmospheric conditions all these things actually x-plane does much better but i think something we can deduct from this test is that a sabo have worked so hard to combine both the look-up table system that previous iterations of the sim used with the newer aspects of the flight model that relies on the shape of the aircraft and how it sort of predicts the aerodynamic flow and behavior of the aircraft which actually is also very important if you consider that the dynamic weather engine and atmosphere in microsoft flights later is far better than x-plane so really i think this is quite an interesting discussion and test please do let me know in the comments what are your thoughts on this do you disagree with my conclusion that's absolutely fine please do let me know for me personally i absolutely adore both sims and i'll be using both of them for many years to come thank you so much for watching i really do appreciate it it's been a very busy week on the channel i'm going to take a break now i think for at least a week you'll be pleased to know and i'll see you again fairly soon have a great weekend and bye for now
