welcome inside glorina for the final matchup of day one the campbell invitational this is volleyball on espn plus the james madison dukes the pre-season favorites in the colony athletic conference take on the campbell fighting camels one of the top teams in the big south conference without being mccourt's side along with tammy freeze evan bunchovich getting you set for first serve tammy these teams did very well in the spring in conference play only now with non-conference play a factor tonight how does this heavy-hitting matchup prepare these teams for conference play i think both teams is a great non-conference match campbell is going to see this quality type team and jmu that they'll see in the top teams in their conference same thing for james madison they're going to see top teams in their conference that do the things that campbell does so this just gets them ready for what they're going to see for conference play let's focus on the dukes leading off the sophomore right side elizabeth helmick 33 kills in her last tournament how does she feel this offense she just has so many different shots and that's what campbell will have to look out for she can go cross-court she can go crossbody down the line she uses the block just very dynamic hitter and that's why she's a go-to campbell is led by the junior outside hitter and the all-conference selection layla green who had a tough weekend in her debut down in southern california how does she pick things up tonight i think what layla's going to look to do is just execute more on her swings she's going to get a lot of attempts she's just going to be a little smarter with her shots her team can help her out by being passing more in system and establishing the middle early so that hopefully opens up the block for her campbell an owen three start down in los angeles last weekend there's the fighting camels getting ready to roll in their home opener tonight in go arena 10th all-time matchup between these two and tammy our matami homes keys to the match up for james madison feeding their hitters and campbell must pass well how does campbell pass well tonight they just need to see the serve early get those platforms out early and just be confident in their movement and here we go the start of the matchup tonight elise gross back to serve the junior from santa monica and we're underway in this first set last time these teams met 2013 many of these players were not even in high school back then layla green goes cross-court for her first kill that's exactly what to do to get herself started executing that deep cross-court shot greene led the big south in kills per set this past spring three and a half kills per set last weekend however hit negative 200 in three match-ups greg gorilla pointing out she does so much for her team in every facet as a six rotation player who wins the joust and now freight over and a point on the block by melody page [Applause] a quick 2-0 start as gross remains in to serve campbell led the big south in aces this past spring but give a point away for james madison's first tammy as a coach when your team goes 0-3 on the road how valuable is it to return home and try to shake the rust off very valuable and just you know second week of the season just trying to get established more uh it's not a bad thing that first week and you're just trying to figure things out here in your second weekend you want to get a little bit more in tune of what your routine is going to be right in tune to melody page down the pipe excellent in system pass there by cable and that's what they wanted to establish you know early off a great pass like that campbell is down bodies last weekend sarah calla the all-conference outside hitter she played just two sets maddie miner the center only played in one set herself there's call off her hands and a kill for james madison their first offensive point on the swing that time by miat veldman here's caroline dozier from raleigh north carolina went to cardinal gibbons high school just 30 minutes up the road and her family is all in attendance tonight excited to watch the senior here to serve later the back set to kala nice dig out by madeline o'toole in the back row and there's a net violation on the center caroline dozier [Applause] cardinal gibbons caroline dodgers high school a really good volleyball program state championship she's a good player not only a great player she's coming up on history 100 career sets she's had eight matches in her career with 30 or more sets in a given matchup such a dynamic player there's maddie miner on the float serve dozier tees it up and helmet to the floor [Applause] [Music] we talked about elizabeth helmet coming in that's a tough player to stop on the left side yeah i think campbell's blocking a little i gave her a little too much space uh and if she has that she's definitely gonna be able to put a ball away there's velvet on the serve great dive to set up patterson to the back line that was layla green to scoop it out on the surf [Applause] that's why layla green they just rely on her so much to pass defense [Music] definitely leads the camel led the team in total points and kills this past spring with five double doubles targeted served there development off hands emily camp the redshirt freshman as green frees it over dozier goes back set and a good swing down line second kill for helmet i think what's tough about elizabeth helmik is she just has such a high contact she's a really fast swing so campbell's block will need to speed up to challenge her more 5-4 in this first set last match-up was eight years ago for these programs that were picked both first and second in their respective conferences league south and the colonial as that ball goes towards you tammy nice hands how many kills do you have in your campbell career as a player not enough that's why he got to the coaching ranks former assistant coach at siu and charlotte among others dozier touches almost every ball on rotation teeing it up for chloe wilmoth the junior from williamsburg virginia [Applause] we talked to lauren steinbrecher the head coach of james madison coming in she mentioned feeding her hitters getting so many players involved how do you balance that all out as a coach i think the coach definitely trains them to to spread that out and especially in specific situations depending on the past especially again you're in system you you have to hit your right sides and your outsides up for those attempts dozier goes right back to it and down line touching chloe wilmot for their second kill she had 14 in her last matchup against illinois state pretty good start here in the first [Applause] taking a look at jaden clemmer the freshman at lexington virginia that serve is oh out line referee calls out might want to have a replay there if i'm coach steinbrecker i agree i agree with the lion judging that one it was just out it was close i disagree but that's where replay comes in so if the crew has it later we'll see who's right or who's wrong results in emily mitter's serve each coach allotted two challenges in the match if they win them they keep them wilmoth over hands minnow to the floor and that's ruled down so point for james madison to even us at seven [Applause] there's a serving substitution first look at madeleine o'toole the freshman from louisville kentucky just four sisters all four played college volleyball including her twin sister kirsten who's at bellarmine university kala cross hands got a touch well she did not get a touch my eyes lying to me tonight here tammy freeze i apologize say that i definitely miss that myself so two stays in the serve when her head coach lauren steinbrecher saw her tournament in louisville three years ago the second she watched her play literally wanted to give her an offer is there's a kill for chloe cook her first when you're on the road recruiting how immediate can you realize you want a player in your program it can happen for sure if they you are looking especially for a specific position and you see that personality come through that you you want as well as the talent and skill or the potential you can definitely find it early page with a block second rejection is dug out and a nice rally here in the first set mitre out to green over hands that is saved and a pancake is perfect by savannah marshall back to page no hands at the net point james madison and what a swing point for the dukes what about that defense and getting those balls up the transition play melee page had some great blocks there and that's where campbell's got to execute on that those transition balls they get those attempts but just putting that ball one more in the court that results in a one point lead for james madison early on in this matchup leading kill getters so far three for wilmoth one each for five campbell players tonight this james madison club of three and one start they have dominated in this tournament a straight set sweep over alabama state earlier today followed by a quick lunch with some pizza now they're ready to go great serve by roberts now a swing and down line dug out by mitter on the attempt for veldman james madison insists of dozier down the pipe to the floor melbourne with her force [Music] the luxury of hitters for caroline dozier the setter seems like quite the nice treat especially in that two-year rotation where the setter is front row and i think campbell's having trouble deciding which header they need to key in on nearly an ace as gross dove to the floor call it deep off line splits it through the hands and gets the point sarakala who missed the week leading into the season returning for contact racing played just a handful of sets last weekend how do you integrate a player like that back into the fold as a former all-conference outside hitter i think it's just getting her comfortable back into just all the practice time um taking a lot of swings she finds it with patterson there on [Applause] together put up such a good block it was a really great timing by them and pressing over to jmu side the net [Music] strong hands by patterson that time her first block and off the hands of patterson that time the kill for savannah cockrell the sophomore from centerville virginia [Music] jmu's passing really well in system they're able to establish that middle and that's why we gotta get uh campbell's gotta get jaime out of system so they can't do that dozier is six rotation players serves wide of the line very entertaining first set if you're looking at this campbell invitational which matchup caught our eye early it was this game two teams that both had winning records in the spring both made it to their conference tournaments as two seeds what about these programs excites you most here in the fall i i love the offense i love that there's so many different hitters that each team can use but i'm not saying i'm also excited about the defense both very scrappy defenders on each side cockrell gets a tip on her as emily camp keeps it alive [Music] dozier sets outside that's a nice kill across court and all of a sudden felven getting her first start of the season has three kills it was a great use of using the block high hands by velman and i think that this gross team just prep up a little too much into the middle of the corner yet feldman first team all-caa the rookie of the year in the spring but if she wins the award in the fall is she a two-time player of the year given it's the same calendar year as there's a point for james madison a setting error oh absolutely absolutely two different scenes because you get the spring plaque says spring 2021 player of the year and if you're the fall player of the year it's a whole different dynamic absolutely the perks of playing these seasons on short rest we asked both coaches about that and for james madison they didn't have a full season with kova missing about eight or nine games they didn't feel like the spring had been fully ready for the fall whereas campbell played a full 16 contest in 11-5 record we'll take this time out on the court james madison leads by three here in the first set on espn plus power isn't born it's built over time for over 65 years hercules tires has been providing the muscle to move more drivers whatever the vehicle whatever the terrain and we back it with a powerful protection plan so wherever the road or the trail takes you we have the selection value and strength to get you there hercules tires ride on our strength big things are happening this year across the south from the mountains to the coast the fast are getting faster the strong are getting stronger and the best is getting better get ready to raise your expectations get ready for something big ingalls a proud sponsor of big south sports campbell campbell's opened their home slate tonight they are led by head coach greg gorill year nine leading this program in our ticket smarter coach's corner grab gorilla said straight up this team watched film constantly all week trying to shake off the tough loss what are your impressions of their response tonight after a difficult weekend in los angeles they i think they're really energized i think they're excited to be playing at home i see that especially with layla again trying to execute attacks more than they did last weekend feeding layla green and the beautiful back step by minor that was the challenge for green she had just one match in double figure kills and hit below the zero hitting percentage in all three games they definitely faced some tough teams some big blocks in their last tournament again gonna face that here that's just some great cross-court swinging into that scene with just one block and she gives the point back with a service error greg has a 60-40 percentage he likes to use for serve's success campbell the conference in aces last year they also led the league in serving errors it kind of goes both ways it does that's when you got to be aggressive on serving but you got to be willing to take some errors with that we have a substitution error on james madison players out of position so point campbell that's an out of rotation call i didn't quite see what they noticed without a rotation sometimes it's between a front row and back row players sometimes between players next to each other in volleyball you have to wherever you set up there's an overlap rule and you cannot overlap positions until the serve [Music] i'm guessing that a front row player was probably behind one of the back roads or receivers patterson gets a free service out of it now dozier in system great dig by miner chloe cook on an awkward angle beats the line and it is scooped up touched over by camp what a rally wow patterson from the back row gets it up cook again off hands dozier all over the court is blocked by paige [Music] [Applause] huge block by nelly page she had such a great press good timing she really keeps her eyes on the hitter but what some crazy defense right there that was amazing paige set a career high with eight blocks last weekend and has her second tonight that's an out-of-bound shot from james madison so it's even at 15 here in this first set that outer rotation call can definitely change the momentum of the team and so jamie's going to regroup here dozier back set to helmik cook with strong hands and page the dump down for the points two blocks two kills for page in this first set the junior who's taken some massive steps that's what they rely on for melody page as being that big uh just a big presence up on the net and picking up a lot of space for the defense timeout called by lauren steinbrecker and she looks to stop this four-nothing run for campbell out of the timeout greg gorill's unit would love to bounce back after a difficult weekend in los angeles and he was telling us that with so many players battling for starting positions entering this tournament it's about finding his rhythm and his rotations how do you figure that out as a coach in the first few weeks you definitely look at death that's when it gives away um and just whether you're hitting efficiently i know that coach squirrel feels like he does have depth so that's always a good thing you can be a little more comfortable so even if you didn't hit as efficiently as you wanted to or maybe think as many digs as you wanted to or too many service errors um you can make some slight changes in your lineup they're going to help you adjust and again it's just kind of this is second weekend they're getting used to uh getting into that rhythm it's more practice it's just experience coming down to experience this campbell squad 11 and five in the spring they finished four games out of first place to high point the team that james madison defeated in five sets in what lauren steinbrechter called her biggest win of the season and i quipped well it's your first but she said without through starting center dozier and down two sets to one that was a huge comeback for james mattis i think that yeah not having a go-to setter a leader a captain on the team that does make a difference when your team can rally and respond in that situation especially your first match of the season back to helmek off the hands scooped up by cook not enough and elizabeth helmick three early kills we have not seen tonight julia disa the outside hitter out of rio de janeiro number three in the white she's not appeared yet tonight is healthy just not an option so far and also had a really great weekend last last weekend miner a deep back set to camp who goes down line with a rocket there's a back row touch by veldman miner pushes out to cook who terminates to the floor on the background [Applause] and this is what campbell was hoping for getting this again in system so those passes are on the net the setter can be on the net have all three options and maddie meyer setting over the top there giving chloe cook a lot of space on her spoon there's emily motor with a missile paige cleans it up [Applause] how about the presence of melody page three kills three blocks in the first set she just gives the team so much energy when she whether it's a block whether it's an overpass pill they definitely feed off of that on the slide excellent swing and james madison responds that's sophia davis that's what i've been looking for in jmu when were they gonna get sophia davis started that slide option the two-third rotation in the front row the slide can definitely be effective it's hard to defend so you might see more of that now that james madison got that first win davis a two-time all-conference hitter in the colonial emitter rotates in at sir paige is tipped campbell runs a two-setter rotation addie minor their senior center is back tonight missed the first conference tournament and that shot is long point campbell [Applause] don't tell me these teams have nothing to play for tonight that's good energy good rhythm from these clubs in the first sound served by cook dozier with a beautiful set off balance it's tipped over here's green off hands scooped up by o'toole for a cross-court swing davis her second kill [Applause] what makes davis a dangerous player in the middle she's got great size and she good jumping ability very quick arm swing and then just going off that one foot to transition back to two feet makes the blockers really have to think about her movement when she was recruited lauren steinbrecher called her the best one-footed hitter she's ever seen at that middle position green soaring in does not touch hands point james madison and greene wanted it on that swing she did she had a lot of space it was a great set decision by emily mitter layla had the one on one those are the type of swings that campbell has to execute on when they get them if they're going to become more efficient here's hannah roberts to serve good return cajun system is dug out campbell's fed the middle a ton in his first set and they get a block to go with it [Applause] already eight block assists for campbell in this first set james madison not a single block to show for there's claire ann fechter preseason first team conference for campbell [Music] dozier forced a bump set with marshall and that touches the hands of clarence fechter quality swing by miat [Applause] [Music] how about the hometown girl caroline dozier back here 30 minutes from her hometown of raleigh replaced an off-conference center and sarah martin who had 3 000 assists in her career all dozier has done has been a two-year starter kala offhand scooped up by marshall feldman that is long campbell takes the lead now a possible challenge coming here from lauren steinbrecher i think the right call was made but maybe the coaches feel differently and it's close enough that uh you would want to throw a challenge at this point so the challenge is in let's get an angle on this because this is a huge swing point 20 a piece in this first set crucial call for james madison they're looking to overturn this play and tammy freeze will you see does that touch patterson's hands at all definitely i think without i can't tell from that angle shaking her hand like no [Music] well as any mental blocker should what blocker's going to admit they did touch the ball even if they're close definitely a lot of respect to the officials in these situations uh that have to view this because that's close it's very hard i think that's one of the hardest challenges to you to look at is the touch call did it touch even just the top of a blocker's finger how about campbell in his first set tammy 10 blocks assists so far in this set how they controlled the match with their front row well i think what you can see in james and madison now because campbell has blocked so well um james madison's starting to make some more errors they're trying to go high off the hands versus down into the block and that's making a difference in giving campbell from to roon to get some points those blocks have combined for an impressive front row effort eliminating a james madison team who hit over 200 in their first weekend the call stands on the court so 21-20 campbell now maddie miner the senior a fifth year senior for north branch michigan enters to surf james madison and uh their three hitter rotation now you can see uh elizabeth hellman coming over to the right side all she did was ranked second in the conference in aces last year dozier pushes wide feldman gets a touch green forced to play it over dozier and system back set helmick off hands through the arms of camp for the point [Music] as that opposite hitter you know that's your angle of course on that cross-court shot how do you prepare for that if you're emily and just being a little bit more ready more poised expecting the ball off locker defense you don't get a lot of that unless it's a tip so a hard one like that off the block i think emily camp just wasn't quite ready for expecting that and it came kind of high on on her body to her face ties it up at 21. the transfer from virginia tech gets her swing off hands dozier who's she going to go to looking middle scooped up by cook and let's camp and we have a bump violation double touch on minor so james madison two straight points to regain the lead [Applause] timeout call by greg gorill the campbell coach wants to talk this over tammy we mentioned gorilla coming and how about lauren steinbrecker 11 years she picked up her 200th win this past weekend her club has won two conference titles all the time what impresses you most about this james madison program i think just again that coach steinbeck has been there for a number of years and it's just that consistency she's established a program uh to be a powerhouse in her conference they've gone to the ncaa tournament and it's that consistency that i think is is impressive um getting the type of athletes that they have year after year and that's how you build a program you see lauren who comes in at 6-2 rather impressive figure and we asked her what's her favorite moment as a coach she mentioned this past spring her team lost seven players due to contact racing had to go to the conference tournament with very little in their front line rotation yet took a set from the eventual champions northeastern and she was very proud of her team's performance in the spring as as i would be as well i mean she mentioned that she had her setters and she had ds's having to play libero's playing outside our ds is playing outside i should say uh in that in that match um so you've got to be proud of a team that responds in that way especially on the biggest stage for your season in that colonial athletic tournament towson and northeastern battled in the final towson's a two-time champion in the conference they defeated jmu in the finals in 19 and that's the goal for this james madison club float served by veldman over to green now she gets a swing at it and green through the arms and the points [Applause] aggressive swing there by layla which is great jamie's blocked not quite pressed on time and it was able to go [Music] layla green back to serve already five lead changes in this first set dozier pushes wide what a swing scooped up by greene and over from factory closure again out to wilmoth this time she does not touch hands point campbell [Applause] [Music] and now a home crowd changes the momentum of this first set teams did not have this environment in the spring and a timeout called by jmu i remember yes watching college volleyball in the spring with empty gem not something uh not as exciting for sure you definitely feed off your fans uh campbell team feeds off their the environment they have here at home and nothing like a great aggressive defensive play where you're running and playing the ball back able to get a play out of it and then get the point how about that effort by layla green to scoop that ball up and even keep it alive for a free ball thank goodness for high ceilings not something i had as a player you played a gymnasium that was about 15 feet tall not a lot of space there here in more arena plenty of room to work with alongside tammy freeze have a bunch of a cheer for this first set this is the final match of the night in day one of the campbell invitational layla green and the camels oh and three on the year losses to usc and los angeles denver and cal state northridge all james madison did was dominate their conference tournament to open up wins over high point and illinois state and a tight loss to vcu who now ranks in the top 30 in rpi in the country dukes had a win earlier this morning double figure kills for three hitters including julia desaw who is not in the lineup tonight we've not seen number three in the white so far i think this is where james madison got called out of rotation before so we're interesting to see they're set up here it's a very tight for that overlapping lagrain on the float serve there's a back set to helmet into the body of miner cook forced to free it over jam you can tie it on this swing that's exactly what they do point james madison i definitely expect that ball to be going to live with my helmet um there for that those two swings almost there not quite there on time for that press fourth kill for helmet tonight miner a deep back set is denied by davis [Applause] another reason davis such a great middle blocker really keyed in on where layla green was hitting that back for attack savannah marshall serves for the set here's cook over hands nicely dug out by dozier [Applause] [Music] [Applause] lots of offense great attacks from both sides defense um transition play i'm excited 24 apiece bonus time here in the first set and that's a double touch yeah oh no not a lift it's a net violation as davis gets the point and greg laurel wants the explanation from the side referee i believe they were saying pat's melody another set point for james madison this is elizabeth helmick the sophomore to plymouth minnesota the champion of kinesio tape and puts one to the net [Music] [Applause] [Music] want it they just want it in and this is where you might not want to serve that a serve maybe it's your bee serve emily minner there's your b serve and it's in a little bit of spinach for dozier now the beautiful touch and a net violation on chloe cook no it's on james madison point campbell and the violation is on davis from the slide lauren steinbrecker asking for an explanation maybe a challenge here i'd use it well right now she has two challenges left unless it goes to the fifth set watch davis here 15 in the white i think he was calling it maybe perhaps after the play did she touch the net on the way down i didn't see it on the swing at the top but did she touch it on her landing and then the ball was not down that's what i think you got to decide she did step over the center line slightly but you can do that as long as you're not necessarily in your family with the play but any part of the net unless it's hair for a hair is fine to touch on that but any part of your body that touches the net and the ball is not down they would call and this is the last challenge for james madison if they do not win this challenge so critical juncture could swing this whole first set give you a second angle of this look because you mentioned davis landing over the line when does her body actually touch the net i think maybe right there her right arm at the very bottom because as you're saying she can go over the line as long as she does not impede the player in front of her i didn't see it on like i said at the top when she swings is it on the way down right there where that right elbow comes down by the net did she graze the bottom and inside the antenna because you actually can touch the net outside the antenna and you would be fine that's so such a hard call nothing to see and sometimes i do feel like down reps and that's an interpretation call correct exactly there wasn't any type of movement on the net too so nothing from the ball that was playing nothing from the block definitely tough call to make especially at this juncture with these points in this first set on the line different site to have fans in attendance here in gore arena tonight and it has ruled a jump ball they're going to redo the point so make it 25 a piece i think that's a good cause it's too inconclusive i mean you won't don't want that to determine the outcome here it wasn't such a grand violation of the net i think to to be worthy of staying with that so the challenge is one so lauren steinbrecker gets to keep her challenge the rest of the set i tell you coming down to the final point for the final rotation here in this first set we have a dandy emily mitter on the serve dozier the back set right to the slide and it works for davis such a huge swing by davis and i mean that hit right beyond the attack line at 11 feet sharp cross that's just such a great swing now james madison serves for the set this is madeline o'toole oh vector with trouble can james madison take advantage that's scooped up factor the bump here's kala off hands set point for the dukes davis the slide beautiful dig by green again nothing coming easy in this first set and tonight at the net davis [Applause] james madison takes set one 27-25 their first block of the set pulls it out in extra time that's just so unfortunate for campbell um i think perhaps emily mayer could have went reverse to the right side um you know dave is hitting two uh [Applause] that's great extension over the net we'll take a timeout james madison wins set one 27-25 the right way to top a sub is with real red wine vinegar made from red grapes and no food coloring in the right way to film it is in slow motion obviously because authentic ingredients make a sub above power isn't born it's built over time for over 65 years hercules tires has been providing the muscle to move more drivers whatever the vehicle whatever the terrain and we back it with a powerful protection plan so wherever the road or the trail takes you we have the selection value and strength to get you there hercules tires ride on our strength there's not a secret to what actually happens behind the scenes at a bank here at first citizens we're trying to educate the client in each step of what's actually going to happen and actually have them make the educated decision around what steps and what options they utilize we want to become that trusted advisor that actually guides them down that road helping you reach your goals that's forever first well folks it's only 8 a.m and it's going to be another hot one today 85 degrees with lows ranging in the upper 50s tomorrow's more of the same plus some light wind coming in fried chicken better with pepsi the right way to top a sub is with real red wine vinegar made from red grapes and no food coloring and the right way to film it is in slow motion obviously because authentic ingredients make a sub above good matchup in that first set james madison 27-25 the winner and tammy as we show you the highlights from that first set james madison so impressive down the stretch especially with davis and the presence of velma that's like a pinball machine on that little back and forth rally but here's the here's the point of the set yeah it came down those last two points campbell being uh not getting that second contact up why is ready for campbell and then yeah how about davis just coming in and dominating with those last few points i mean they went to her on the slide three times she had her block touches it's no wonder she uh is an upper class leader on their team getting our substitutions all set early in set two looks like both sides slightly changing maybe where they're starting their rotation campbell definitely switching up where they are starting maybe to get some better matchups uh in this second center some different matchups this the james madison program that in 19 the last full season 22 wins they dropped the conference finals to towson but a program that wants to get back to that point how do they do it with this non-conference slate to get ready for colonial play i think they definitely want to establish their tone and what they're doing in non-conference to to put some uh some fear i'd say into their conference opponents uh that they're ready definitely get these wins on these non-conference permits here the next few weeks james madison is a busy non-conference slate on the way take on ohio state and delaware next weekend here's a block in the hands of davis layla green who had two kills early in the set excellent scoop by fector green again into the hands of davis she's a machine at the net i think it's no wonder that james madison started with sofia davis back in the front row for the second set coming off all that momentum there in those last few points in the first set just five blocks and three matches for davis last weekend she has three in the last five minutes how can campbell respond here's green and a double touch on mitter tammy freeze you've coached in many places when the team starts to unravel like this such as campbell how do you settle those nerves after a difficult first set timeout always works but you don't want to take that at just two points uh it's just getting that first pass contact remind them deep breaths let's regroup there's an antenna violation in the sarah collis swing point james madison and a lot to think about if you're greg laurel here in his home opener team that should have and could have had one set one and starting to fall behind as madeline o'toole continues to serve there's a service error fifth of the match for the dukes this is the james madison team second in the country and blocks per set coming in they were pretty impressive late in the set with two blocks it wasn't a lot early but that front line was huge down the stretch they put up such a big block their pins and middles together and that's what's challenging there's the kill on the right side for davis and her slide has been excellent tonight it's such a quick tempo it's really hard for the middle blocker and campbell's team to get out there with the pin blocker and then setting up davis is just picking apart the right side of the court whether it's sharp or deep now davis goes back to serve knuckling attempt their defector calla flies into the air finds the floor and paula's first kick that's what campbell needs to do there just nice and just pass to the center they have so many options uh and then gets a really great dynamic approach she's really good when that ball is just a good tempo ball for her just 17 kills away from 900 in her career that would put her in the top 15 all-time in program history there's a cross-court swing feldman with her fourth kill and we checked the official stats he has passed you in all-time kills tammy freeze yes let me check if it's just that i'm not surprised unfortunately she passed her number in about a year and a half but that's not important the important number is she is a fourth year senior out of san diego california i can say she has had more um playing time for sure than me as well early on there's a dangerous float serve the camp has to bump up defector dozier on the back set helmet good touch down line these teams both hitting under 200 and the dump down is secured and savannah cockrell with the high hands [Music] that's back to james madison again just so high on their block presses it's going to be you really have to work if you're campbell if you're going to send an off-speed shot you've got to go over or definitely way around maddie miner floating to the front to feed camp that misses long no hands at the net point james madison as campbell now hits 0.73 in this match how much of this run for james madison tammy is the mental effect of the front row with their blocker i think that's a big part of it because they're passing well now ooh the dump set fixes the run there's miners the senior fighting for a crafty finish maddie miner said i'm gonna take control of this one right here and that's a difficult set too with your body moving one way your hands not trying to keep it deep in the pocket there's a center pull that off and she's a back row setter so she has to stay below the height of the net the maddie minor did a really good job with that setter dump and deceiving the defense there's an ace for that's on the line point james madison [Music] no challenge for greg he is firing his team up right now trying to keep them locked into set too i think that passing against doing fine it's just the hitters settling and not trying to do too much pull maddie minor to her knees to tee up chloe cook [Applause] you mentioned back row setting that's a whole different level upsetting there that makes maddie minor definitely dynamic and this proves her experience at this point in her fifth season of just what she can do maddie minor four assists shy of 1500 in her career she might get in this set is there's cook there's the tip great hands on the back row by veldman now wilmoth deep that is out campbell i have to stare at these line judges for 20 seconds to verify these calls here but it is out now to patterson on the serve wilmoth again goes down line and beats anandis with a point [Music] another great shot and it's a smart shot to go to middle back when you have your middle blocker serving and coming into play defense not that they can't but you you see most middle blockers are pulled out from when the liberal goes in miner insisted a page who has been awesome at the front [Applause] [Music] page and row was up so high on that and that's how you get around the walk especially on sofia davis melody page off tournament team in the ufc invitational brown gorilla said her jump from year two to year three has been the best of any player on this team free ball for james madison there's a long set to wilmoth tipped at the net now in transition marshall bumps to dozier page there oh she's got to get out of the way and cook the free ball little helter skelter in this rotation men are off her shoulder cook towards us and it's over great swing cross court and down for sophia davis who now has five kills [Applause] campbell they're getting the they're just not quite able to get any type of swing out of those atlas systems i think there were a couple that maybe they could have gotten the swing instead of free balling or sending uh just a lighter shot over float serve towards vector who has some trouble there's an ace for james madison their first of the night this is a five point lead all of a sudden james madison definitely aggressive in their serving they have really nice uh jump float servers here's jaden klemmer with a float serve herself and another ace the dukes have found their service right in time forcing a time-out called by greg of campbell we'll take the time out as well jmu rolling here in set two [Applause] [Applause] yeah oh yes [Music] time james madison leading by six early in the second set jayden plummer part of two straight aces goes back to it well not an ace there's a clear point and tammy how about the serving of james madison and that's that's why that junk floats so tough on scott case and getting that team out of system i mean that's what you want that's what the servant pass game is getting the other team out of system so they can't run their offense campbell a bit disjointed in the second set as that ball is pancaked up it does touch the floor kill for chloe cook that's her only her fourth kill for a freshman who was named the freshman of the year in the big south at two and a half kills per set looking to get her offense going here in the second set greg adding to his duties nine years in janitorial work making sure the court's all ready to go nice and not slick those sweat beads are tough to pick up on that white surface a little easier on the brown if you will chloe cook to serve and a good one dumped over and factors right there green off hands james madison now hitting 250 in the second set their offense is clicking that's out from chloe wilmoth on the near side campbell hitting 0.71 in the second set how do they get their offense going i think each each other just needs to settle in and get some of the passing but i don't need to try to do too much i think some of the blocks at the end of the last set may have affected them what they think they need to do um but what they were doing how about that swing by chloe wilmot she had 14 in her last match up now has five one of four players in this rotation for coach steinbrecker with four or more kills i think that's what's interesting about chloe wilmoth and what seems so great about her is that she she has made a few errors but she rarely makes an error when she gets set again after coming off transfer from east carolina her second year for the dukes green that does touch hands and touch the back corner for the kill [Applause] four kills for layla green the first team all-conference selection greg mentioning she takes on the largest load for this team what impresses you most about green playing all those rotations i think it is her composure and she does have she has to hit she has to block she has to play defense [Applause] [Music] you see her composed on the court and not too much sex or even if you can tell she's a little frustrated most of the time she regroups and lets go she does have a hitting here that time four kills five errors for green and here's hannah roberts the sophomore grew up in the same hometown as martina kaufman the lead rider for the hit show friends grew up in brumal pennsylvania i was curious where it was i did some google search there's backseat to calla who was denied at the net my goodness big hands up front savannah cockrell you know that big nugget i throw at the end of the first set james madison no blocks at the end well all of a sudden six blocks as we sit midway through the second i think they they've really found their rhythm on blocking and uh definitely picking up on some of the hitter's tendencies and just overall establish that block early it's a 4-1 run for james madison and a nice attempt but jayden plunder cannot keep that ball line his teams have not met in eight years similar non-conference opponents unc wilmington of the colonial college of charleston and these are two teams that are both at the top of their respective leagues it's a neat case study heading into conference play at the end of september absolutely uh absolutely i think this is going to give the both coaches both teams a lot to what they can work on so they can contend again in the top teams of their conference here's maddie miner he's been in the conference half a decade all of a sudden as a fifth year feldman off the hands finds cook now green quickly and system oh what a dig and a scoop shot that is out oh almost had it man just missed them really trying to that was really close she's a righty by trade just to keep in mind good try and evenly camp good heads up and like not actually going up and putting your hands up so they can be used on that having one heck of a tool of the block with her off hand now goes to the strong side and terminates the netflix nine kills this morning now she sits with six and that's building here in the second set again how interesting that coach steinbrecker has you know she has velman in um dassault played last weekend in that position and did really well ooh chloe cook had to stay behind the front line that's an illegal touch on cook time out greg gorill and correct me if i'm wrong tammy that's the violation because cook landed over the strike because she did hit it behind the line as a back row player i'd have to i'm sorry i have to see it again you can take off behind the line you can land in front of it correct so she must have like grabbed a part of it or flipped a bit on it when she took off all of a sudden this campbell team that went seven and one at home this past spring their home opener tonight a bit of a tough matchup to start this thing you see the coaching of greg gorill guiding his unit how does what about james madison here in the second set tammy yeah i think james again just with sofia davis just put her back in she started the front row after ending the first set and they that momentum with her blocking and swinging just carried her team into that i think it just put that stress on campbell coming off of just losing that first set james madison hitting 250 in this second set they've nearly doubled their total from the first and it's been a balanced effort five hitters with four or more kills campbell's really struggled uh to find their rhythm after i think getting blocked um second guessing themselves a little bit on the shots they need to make and just not having as good of first contact seconds so what they can do here though focusing on that and getting some swings here to get themselves back in here's caroline dozier the raleigh native to serve and misses wide that stops a 5-1 run it's campbell's turn to serve you never want to say it's a must-win set in set two feels however campbell needs this set to stay at the notch it's always hard when you're down 0-2 to definitely come back establish in the momentum and take off that next set feldman no hands oh she does get hands at the net point james madison [Applause] downraft called that touch there and up the offense for james madison lauren steinbrecker said it's a bevy of riches balancing out the rotation of hitters he's been balanced tonight for sure cook on the bump and green freeze it over jmu in system dozier back set helmik off hands and down elizabeth helmet seven kills to go with feldman's eight i haven't seen that off speed shot yet from comics so that was interesting she really slowed down her arm swing hit that block uh and then off off blocker for campbell and emily camp just has to be ready quicker fellman on the float serve here's patterson in system and that knuckler goes out to the far line jmu four points from the set [Music] you gotta wonder a little bit like it's starting in a different rotation as campbell did did that also that could be a good thing sometimes or a bad thing of how it plays into just the the chemistry on the court and that feeling of getting started [Applause] kate mends number four in the black checks in the true senior and that is just out blind judge all over it so a sixth service error for james madison the only thing they've done wrong in this match i think they're really still trying to be aggressive and target the uh outsides in the passing rotation which is not a bad thing to do the serve by patterson causes trouble and that point is all due to anonymity [Applause] and technically an ace as well to her credit [Applause] [Music] another dangerous serve helmik in system dug out by patterson cook goes down line scooped up there by veldman hellmacht off hands and a rally ensues out to cook who touches the noggin of cockrule bodies everywhere and it's pushed over by wilmot patterson to the floor now it's cook over hands and here we go campbell playing for its life in the second set cook's turn that's deep to the back corner wilmoth cross court patterson again cook roll shot who can pull this one out campbell in transition dump set scooped that's a great dive by marshall now to the back corner patterson bumps campbell swings for the back row long rally to wilmoff who puts it away for a critical second set rally though point both teams such a great rally that's going to be a probably a non-passion hitting her all-time dig high just been in that one round chloe wilmoth the terminating point her sixth kill now james madison can taste this second set after pulling out an elbiter 27-25 [Music] and i'm surprised there's not more sweat on the court after the amount of bodies flying around that last rotation here's savannah marshall to serve the senior from virginia beach one of four seniors on this team page in system that's her bread and butter seems to me that more campbell gets melody page involved the better this offense gets i was just thinking that myself again when she gets a kill like that just brings so much energy when she's blocking there's just so much confidence in melody page when she's up there on the net almost every swing she takes should be in a highlight melt it literally is full of high energies that's off the hands of kala paige a joust holds her own bumps it over now the push set out wilma is scooped up by green that's more like a waffle served in the morning less of a pancake here's the back set and it tees up davis on the slide who has been lethal seven kills [Applause] so thea davis just made it so efficient i don't know that we really like him has really stopped that slide yet uh and it's the fact that she can cut it back that sharply on the court that's what makes it so hard to defend and in two sets tammy dozier has 24 assists very impressive early in this match i realized jmu runs the 6-1 but even still for a player who had 51 assists last weekend against illinois state she is continuing that success here tonight she really does a great job and no matter where the pass no matter where the dig is she gets there puts her hands on it and definitely runs the outfits i think only one uh really a couple of tents herself just to dump but she puts her the ball in the hands of her hitters you see dozer there the six foot set are number four in the white two-time all-conference selection here in the colonial in high school up in raleigh at cardinal gibbons she was the cap eight co-player of the year in that conference her mom and dad both college athletes and at the washington and lee university in virginia here's mitter tight to the net paige is tipped and blocked that does stay free and up and alive oh boy marshall she kept it up you can't forget sarah marshall there's the kill as cook puts it off hands with a tool and i apologize for the sarah marshall reference i just was thinking about that movie but yeah savannah marshall there with the dig i got where you were i got where you were great swing by chloe cook there um uh just off the outside hands of the blocker cook with five kills now dozier out to wilmot she killed the first set and puts it to set point here in tune [Music] i think wilmoth really coming alive for james madison even more so now had some great swings in the first set but now she's really finding her rhythm and finding the court deep shots she's not having too much trouble hitting between the block or around the block james madison on the verge of a two set to nothing lead in campbell's home opener tonight the dukes won in three sets this morning over alabama state now o'toole the float mitter out to green it's a good start for layla green her fifth kill you could tell really focusing on that first contact in system ball uh and that's what that's what campbell's got to get back to they can do that more often establish melody page and ananda patterson a few more swings in the middle they'll be back in this clarin fector a deep service another set point for the dukes and denied by patterson campbell has 10 blocks total in this match it's been their strength and set one not as much here in the second set will need to serve for her life needing six straight points to extend this match davis on the slide oh kept up and the punch is over by marshall mitter back to kala off hands and scooped up nicely there's a block patterson with her second collar gets a hand on it and campbell with three straight points i need to see a replay just to see all the different players in the front row that just touched that ball there's a lot of action at the net these two teams both in the top two in their leagues in total blocks so dominant dozier the back set there's the kill to end set two once again sophia davis she has seven and we'll take a timeout here on espn plus james madison a two-set lead here through two we'll have our halftime report coming up when we return [Applause] yeah i think you'd see there just campbell's middle blocker a little late um getting out there sophie david had that seam uh but that's what she's good at hitting that scene and for over 65 years has been providing tires with unbeatable quality at an unmatched value whatever the vehicle and whatever the terrain hercules tires invites you to ride on our strength for a retailer near you visit herculestires.com james madison with a two set to none lead early on in glory this is campbell's home opener tonight tammy as we give you a sense of what's happened that first set 27-25 very close and here are the highlights from early on james madison dominating with their pin hitters tonight wilmoth with seven kills and belmont has eight yeah i think james madison just able to find a lot more court this time even despite campbell blocking well uh but the block just not setting up as much as they did on the hitter and then sylvia davis just carrying that momentum dominating boy marshall has been everywhere and this sets up a crazy rally in the second set down the stretch dave is just too much he ended both sets with kills and all of a sudden tammy jmu with a two set to none lead they're hitting only 165 but they've limited campbell under 100 hitting and credit to their front row with good presence at the net absolutely just establishing a blocks making the campbell hitters just second guess uh with those early boxes on the second set uh i think we'll see here we'll see how campbell matches up if they change anything go back to kind of where they started the first set um james madison having sophia davis again in front row so let's see what happens here to get gimbal to get them established on their offense james madison at four and one they've matched their best start over the last two years a 20-win team each in the last two full seasons dozier the set outside dangerous pin hitters is feldman's dug out they wanted an antenna violation campbell did dozer on a nice return tees it up and that is terminated niet feldman who had nine kills this morning now has nine kills tonight that was a little bit different look that uh caroline dozier set there for her so she established her on the outside then she brought that set in for bellman and that was just a really great scene shot by her versatility this jmu offense there's a reason last year they were top 10 in the country hit percentage dynamic group dodger the lead setter tees up cockrell and that block sneaks through 2-0 lead for jmu when you have a bevy of riches like this for lauren steinbrecker how do you utilize these non-conference tournaments to figure out rotations i think just as she's doing um telling them to see what's more efficient they can look at it by rotation um look again where they're they're setting uh they're hitters from the feldman off hands and the point [Applause] james madison now with 32 kills in this match campbell with just 20. a lot of their success has come with the block 12 combined blocks i think where campbell has missed out some of just some of that transition play so not necessarily here in serve receive but the rally ensues but they don't finish with that point goes middle page in system has been deadly tonight melody page already with five kills that's what campbell needs to do let's get paige going now paige is out though so they got to keep that momentum uh there up front you mentioned coming in the importance for campbell of feeding its middle hitters paige a big part of that at the front of the net is this one joust is kept up feldman over the hands mitter had to bump set from the back row and green is blocked that's savannah cockrell with her first of the night [Applause] that's such a hard attack to make is when you're you're layla green and you're out of system james madison has plenty of time to set up a block and then you have to figure out as the hitter like okay where do i go with the swing can i go high hands can i go sharp cross so many options to think about it slowed campbell's offense because of it they hit 100 tonight an example right there call it typically get that ball over but thinking about cockrell in the middle absolutely trying to throw that off speed shot around the block and what we're seeing right now just not getting its first contact for campbell it's taking the setters off the net and the setters really struggling to make that second contact even better here's the hometown product caroline dozier to serve she's playing in her 100th career set tonight new center in for campbell mckenna shaka true freshman here's feldman off the net and it finds the floor what a lucky bounce let's pay it off for james madison and that's just unfortunate for campbell's defense sometimes that ball just hits the net uh just even if you read it well it just kind of throws it off and makes it hard for you to make your defensive moves kala has to bump set to cook steps in front of green little confusion there [Applause] that's a long swing by helmet and a hitting error campbell's second point of the set so mckenna shaka the redshirt sophomore exits maddie miner returns to play the back row and serve shaka got the starting role for minor last weekend and she got 18 assists in her debut against cal state northridge here's doger doing everything tonight in the middle teeing it up and cook takes a missile off her chest green sneaks it through the hands of goal for the kill [Applause] [Music] layla green and her debut last year tammy 18 kills versus usc upstate two-time player of the week in the conference how did she get her offensive rhythm here in week two of the season i get for her i think she's finishing summer for swings she does a good job of seeing the court seeing where she needs to go it's just sometimes a little long a little feldman picks up the kill now with 12 to lead all attackers tonight you don't see an outside hitter typically hit 270 or better that's a nice presence for james madison in fact the best attacker coming in was sophia davis 40 kills entering this tournament and there's a point for patterson down the pike it's a nice swing to see from ananda patterson someone it hasn't got a ton of attempts in the middle but cutting that back to that sideline that's a great shot for the middle there's layla green to serve it up top five in the big south in aces last year cockrell has nothing to do with it that touches the back line point jmu i think this is where you see uh james madison trying to spread the offense around this set in particular they've tried to get pogba a few more attempts and i think that's back to the coaching staff and then pushing that most likely and talking to their players camp didn't find it patterson punched it over long set out to wilmoth and that's dug out by fechter back set to camp touches down line marshall is all over it great hands by patterson that goes over the tip of fector and james madison with a five-point lead it's a good heads-up play there to for james edson to send that back corner i'm fortunate for campbell that they established such a great block there and it's coming off their hands so hard that james vance actually they're covering well and able to get that ball up here's savannah marshall to serve minor goes middle patterson in system to the front corner when campbell passes well on serve their offense is much more dynamic absolutely and then they gave their middle space um the middle blockers stay there but the outside pins for james madison didn't help wilmoth had trouble with the serve now she comes in and puts it away chloe wilmot eight kills [Music] [Applause] she's swinging with so much confidence now like she has like she has a lot of space because she's found different areas of the court that have worked for her james madison in set three hitting 4 30. it's a way to put a statement on this road opener against the camels in their home debut tonight miner has to free it over her shoulders dozier insisted finds wilma that rick is shay's out of play that's her ninth kill and crazy enough that ball actually went in front of the net and ricocheted with a right-handed spin about five rows deep it's somehow just when you press sometimes it just comes off weird off the hands and then your knuckles are bleeding in the morning a lot of angles is minor the dump that's her second kill that's a sneaky piece of maddie miner's game the fifth year senior as a hitter i always uh and a coach i'm not been a proponent necessarily soda doms maddie might have done such a good job credit to her assistant coach ryan mason works with the setters those two have built quite the rapport the last two years there's a bump set to wilmoth off balance goes to the middle of the court and bodies flying everywhere paige misses wide and jmu leads by six a little bit of helter skelter on campbell's returns here recently tammy i think you can see just a little more communication here and that's always tough especially again they know they're down they have to come back um how do they not internalize their thoughts and and bring more energy out for their team that's a service error second of the night for madeleine o'toole [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] jmu a 7-3 record in the spring they had six matches postponed due to covey campbell went 11-5 both teams finished second in their respective leagues there's a bump set to wilmoth who puts it in the perfect spot 10 kills for chloe willmott it's such a nice off-speed shot she just took it up and over the block a little bit and that falls in the defense really hard for your right back defender they're playing perimeter defense down the line to get to that shot that's wilmot's fourth match of the year in double figure kills and this sets the stage for hannah roberts the 6-1 sophomore she's a center also play in the back row as well defensively green skies across blocked at the net and i think that was dozier's hands there to make the play another solid press by james madison timeout greg as james madison takes control they force the campbell timeout what a change it pays here in set three we'll give you the rest of the third set when we return here on espn plus power isn't born it's built over time for over 65 years hercules tires has been providing the muscle to move more drivers whatever the vehicle whatever the terrain and we back it with a powerful protection plan so wherever the road or the trail takes you we have the selection value and strength to get you there hercules tires ride on our strength big things are happening this year across the south from the mountains to the coast the fast are getting faster the strong are getting stronger and the best is getting better get ready to raise your expectations get ready for something big ingles a proud sponsor of big south sports what fans like because pepsi knows what fans like and there's some fans all messed up tonight i believe that the campbell basketball team enjoy the matchup here i don't know what those fans like but they certainly like pepsi i think they like seeing campbell volleyball in the royal hampshire he needs a little bit of a pep talk he's not taking the score too well campbell trailing two sets to nothing here in the third set and roberts to serve for jmu later tight on the net paige had to switch hands now goes a joust and that's poked up cockrell with the net [Applause] it's been violation big match for me feldman and savannah cockrell who both were hampered by injury throughout the spring and early in the fall this rotation with a full amount of bodies has given coach lauren steinberg a nice set of options in the front row absolutely i'm just impressed with again caroline dozier and her spreading the offense the the pens the number of tips and kills they continue to get that's kept in by jayden clemmer so veldman takes a second touch vector the bump set to kala strong hands there second attempt for cook soaring in and that's long that's a very difficult shot from behind the back line and the thing about the back row attack is like you're not you're deeper you can't swing down you can't swing in the middle of the court because the middle blocker is just hanging out there so you're trying to hit those wings as we saw the final point of set one absolutely you gotta find those corners difficult shot to follow through mitter has to navigate the line and that's a lift back row attack on that one emily meters coming from the back row and she broke the plane touched the ball as it went over and you cannot do that as a back row setter just rotate into the front after the serve but your right has to stay down as patterson great job of the front row not a patterson of the biggest jump of any player in the summer according to her head coach now with four kills and two blocks [Applause] [Applause] [Music] jmu nine points away from the match here in set three this is maddie miner to serve it up that's a tight serve on the line for veldman now gets a swing at it beats what between the noggin of patterson there and sneaks it through between the pigtails there's a point not a bad setup by campbell there with emily camp and ananda patterson when you see that ball kind of fall in front of the blocker just means they're slightly late getting those hands pressed across the net you want to get over the net onto the opponent's side that's why james madison is third set hitting 476. camp tight angle goes cross court right to the body of marshall here's helmik that is freed in play now cook takes her shot and beats the entire back line of james madison [Applause] chloe cook needs to continue to make layla green as well they got she got a full approach on that hit that right back corner and that's what you want seventh kill for chloe cook she's been asked to become a second option behind layla green in that right side attack you do under two weeks in without sarah colin that first tournament mine are just returning how this team will find its rhythm with a new rotating center and just a lot of different players in and out the last few weeks with covet issues different tempos on the sets from the different setters glowing uh cooking layla green practicing um off of mckenna shaka more so than maddie miner so that's definitely something considered oh that ball's pancaked by marshall and it falls in for the kill ananda patterson with her fifth of the match [Applause] [Music] [Applause] here's layla green trying to continue a run here in set three dozer goes middle cockpool great tip at the net and a busy matchup for savannah cockrule she has four kills something i don't think we've talked about evan is just the liberos and what they've done savannah marshall really for james madison we talk about the hitters a lot but the hitters can't do what they're doing without the defense and tammy how about the presence of me at feldman tonight what has she done well in your eyes uh just taking lots of powerful swings then throwing in some off-speed shots and she continues to find the space between the block on top of the high hands of the block and that just made it really difficult for campbell's defense feldman nine kills in this matchup sorry 14 kills nine kills this morning it's a busy day on the stat sheet marshall to float serve defector there's emily camp who was an impressive transfer to virginia tech and there's the power her second kill oh the curveball on that auto system shot i think i'm excited for campbell just uh in emily camp to see what she can do this is her um first year with campbell redshirt freshman she has such a big upside and already seen time though there's keeping it alive as cook frees it over from the back row dozier has her deck at her hands goes to the slide and patterson's dig is not enough james madison six points from the match and that slide again from sofia davis that one that time she was trying to go line hit the top of the hands of the block versus cutting it back crossed like she had done before again throwing the defense off of what she's trying to do this duke's club hitting 236 they've limited campbell to half that total a 120 hit percentage miner goes middle page has not been stopped all night her 7. [Applause] how about the presence of melody page in the middle all tournament team selection and very aggressive in that down the pipe swing just so important again for that energy on her side that her teammates have so much confidence when she's up there a little late on the coverage and that puts emily mitter in a tough position that's a strong kill for chloe wilmot i think campbell's hesitating a little bit and i'm not really sure why because caroline those are the center she's front row but she hasn't taken a lot of attempts but they're trying to see if they're gonna set that middle sophia behind uh and then caroline being smart and throwing it to the outside 36 assists for dozier mitter's turn a back set to cook into the hands of the dominant sofia davis [Music] [Applause] and that's that's textbook right there what you want to block to look like timeout call by campbell their matches down to the final four points how about this swing for james madison the front row that did not have a block in the first set they have come alive here in september great press back into the court by sophia davis davis from fort lauderdale first-team all-conference in the spring she has been more known for her offense than her defense entering this year and we asked coach steinbrecker about that she said the little details of the game has been a big jump for her into year three and that has really been a presence tonight i think blocking that that that's something you improve on with experience and so now she's in year three she's been offensive and that's where she can take her game being that more presence reading and walking is all about reading once you have a technique and and you have to do that with a new opponent you know every match pick up what their setters are doing and she just she seems to do that really well that's james madison club looking to move to 5-1 on the year they'll take on nc central tomorrow and then tammy things get interesting for the dukes coming up they'll host vcu again a very good club ohio state as well and the conference play starts in two weeks for both of these teams which makes this tournament very important yeah this second weekend the coaches are really looking to see what they have to improve on in a short amount of time to get into the conference play here's madeline o'toole to serve back set to cook there's a roll shot that's scooped up by marshall feldman down line and in [Applause] when you send the off speed shot like that and james madison can make that perfect dig to the setter i mean that's a situation melody page she has to make a choice there and that's just tough because you're not going to be able to close that block as an overpass davis had to just touch it over james madison three points from the match davis on the slide through the hands of page and there's a point nine kills for sophia davis and really no answer for on the slide here's madeleine o'toole the freshman continues to serve and puts one into the net [Music] [Applause] [Music] chloe cook back to serve campbell down to its final two points marshall keeps it up davis is denied that time there's feldman great swing and match point upcoming for james madison campbell working really hard on those blocks there i've got the one and bellman going to find hands on that last play campbell trying to keep its match alive here in set three as hannah roberts checks in to serve james madison a 27-25 win in set one they've cruised since later back to kala now the dukes swing for the set that is dug up beautifully great touch by cook here's feldman again that is through the hands and a match win for james madison yet feldman 17 kills tonight her final kill puts this match away in straight sets just a dominant match by james and after that first set and i think campbell starting that second set just struggled to regroup um but kudos to james and madison for for spreading their offense um and just being really efficient which would that's what they were known for coming into this weekend james madison a straight set win we'll break this all down we return more coming up here from glorina after
