you call a hometown welcome it's 1997. in the bell center in montreal canada 21 000 people turned up to watch the canadians try and lose the stanley cup again but now are offering a standing ovation to the one and only jacques vilnerv who had become canada's first ever world drivers champion and given how he almost won it the previous year and before that even was the indycar champion and indy 500 champ this guy was on top of the world this dude was almost aching to a superhero at the time and i mean how could you not buy into the hype well sure enough it didn't take too long before it came to the point where it is today most of the formula one world views him in a not so kind way and has sort of become the mel gibson of the racing world his presence in the media has given off a negative public perception of the guy with some even claiming him to be an illegitimate world champion given his inability to achieve much after his title win in 97 but how did we get here why do we look at jacques villeneuve in such a bad light what happened to this guy jacques villeneuve was born in montreal canada and grew up in a family well versed in motor racing with his father's jill racing professionally throughout north america jill villeneuve was and still is a motor racing hero his performances had led people to proclaim him as one of the greatest drivers ever to not win a world championship and it's not without reason some of his performances still live rent-free in many people's heads nowadays the vlner family would travel with the formula one circus while jill was racing and jacques developed an appetite for the sport but they would soon be reminded of how cruel the sport can be during the last qualifying session of the 1982 belgian grand prix jill velner was killed after colliding with jock and mars this sent a shutter through the motor racing world and undeniably through the violence family jacques was subsequently sent off to a boarding school in switzerland where he delved in of all things downhill skiing but the will to race cars was still there in 1984 he asked his mother if he can get into motorsport to which she responded sure if you get good at math despite the seemingly flawless attempt to deter shark from racing he did indeed prove his grades and was rewarded with a drive in a cart he was also enrolled in the jim russell racing driver school where he was described by the chief instructor as the best student he had ever seen but while he competed in various events here and there his first proper foray into cars came in 1989 where he would sign on to race in the italian f3 series driving with prema now while all this sounds great on paper jacques wasn't able to make much of an impact while teammate antonio tamborini scored second overall in the standings the nerve languaged at the bottom of the standings with no notable results to his name he would remain with prema in the same series for the next two years and although he would get better as time went on he still failed to impress compared to those around him however he did put on a strong performance at the 1991 macau grand prix where he massively outpaced teammate and future f1 driver domenico cia de gea however while remaining in f3 vilner headed to japan to compete in the old japan formula 3 series with toms he would finish second overall winning races in sendai mine and suzuka it was also in this time where he ticketed away at one of his other hobbies music but we'll save that for later all you need to know is that this was when it all started so blame the japanese anyway this video is sponsored by squarespace squarespace is an awesome platform that you can use to set up your own website with ease you start off with selecting from an array of here in japan was linked with another assault at the macau grand prix he would perform well taking third in the main race so at this stage jacques was beginning to gather momentum and was starting to attain some impressive results however rather than mess around in f3 for another year jacques instead went back to north america to compete in toyota atlantics this championship was a stepping stone to the indycar series and was previously won by father jill and uncle jacques senior he would finish third in his maiden year behind fellow canadians david empering him and claw bourbonnae however rather than progressing to indie lights for the 1994 season the new went straight to the indie car series which was an ultra ultra competitive environment some of the names on that grid included nigel mansell mario andretti michael andretti emerson fitty pauly paul tracy unfortunately al unser jr bobby rahul adrian fernandez robbie gordon maurizio googleman willie t ribbs tayo fabi stefan johansson davey jones eddie cheever brian herder ari lorendyk jimmy vesser and giovanni lavagi okay that last one was shot nevertheless jacques had walked right into the lion's den here driving with forsyth green racing villeneuve would enjoy a somewhat slow start to the season but would eventually gather momentum as the season went on he performed well at the indy 500 finishing behind al unser jr and would win his first race at road america later that year his efforts would lead him to take rookie of the year honours to cap off a fine season it was the 1995 season however where vlnerv would truly shine he started off the season well in miami with a win although after the first few rounds he suffered from some inconsistency but his season would take a turn at that year's indy 500 having qualified fifth at the brickyard the illness had a decent start to the race although on lap 37 things started to turn sour after ari loyendyk told scott sharp to get [ __ ] he knocked out his helmet headrest cushion onto the track which subsequently brought out the caution after some frantic shuffling in the pits the illness found himself in the lead having not yet made his pit stop and not yet aware that he was the leader so he ended up passing the pace car twice which was a big no-no in the eyes of the officials when the pits were finally opened vlnerve came in for his pit stop which ended up being a complete disaster when the green flag dropped more misery would be piled onto him as the stewards gave vilner a two-lap penalty for his paceguard shenanigans this dropped him from third to 27th but more crucially he was now two laps down race almost certainly over but this is the indy 500 so anything can happen on lap 77 both michael andretti and scott sharp yated their way out of the race bringing out the caution and getting villeneuve one of his laps back and on lap 124 andre ribeiro stalled out on track this brought out another caution and by this stage vlnerv was back on the lead lap was he lucky yeah but was he destined for victory well not quite there were still some wicked fast cars out there including jimmy vassa scott pruitt and scott goodyear with 11 laps to go vlnerve was second behind goodyear after a caution period the race was about to get back underway but goody made the mistake of passing the pace car before it had entered the pits these efforts were rewarded with a stop go penalty for the tasman motorsports driver adamant that he wasn't in the wrong goodyear continued to drive around although usac didn't take too kindly to this and was subsequently disqualified from the race this left villeneuve in the lead after having been two laps down seemingly out of contention the nerf crossed the bricks to win the 1995 indianapolis 500. for the remainder of the indycar season vlnerve established a more consistent string of results including wins that road america and cleveland these results were enough to hold off al unser jr in the standings making jacques villeneuve the champion for 1995. these mighty impressive results drew the attention of frank williams managing director of the williams formula one team who invited vilner to test their cars at the end of the 95 season he impressed those within the team enough and was subsequently signed on to race with williams for the 1996 season pairing up with title favourite damon hill now jumping from indy to formula one is a little bit of a leap right i mean surely vlone is gonna drown despite being in a top team right well someone didn't bother to tell him that when it came time for the first round in melbourne the williams cards would lock out the front row of the grid damon hill set a time of 132.509 a good time although this would be better by vilner who's at a time of 132.371 scoring his first ever pole position in his first ever grand prix now irrespective of whether he has the best car or not that was impressive the illness led the majority of the race although an oil leak slowed him down eventually gifting the wind to hill but nonetheless the illness had stormed out of the gate on debut his first one would come three races later at the european grand prix where he held off reigning world champion michael schumacher however while all this was spectacular teammate hill was running away with the title with a slew of wins throughout the year undeterred the nerve would begin to reign in the gap starting off at silverstone after he inherited the win when damon hill's wheelnut parted company with the car and headed for france he would win again in hungary and in portugal and with one round to go vilner was nine points behind hill in the driver's standings so technically he could win the championship but it would require a win from villeneuve and a retirement from hill but i mean anything was possible given that giovanni lavaji was racing that weekend vlnerv took the pole and he threw it all away at the start with a rubbish getaway he fell down to p6 while teammate hill romped away jacques's other problem was that passing on the suzuka circuit is about as tricky as jean hart's growing his spine regardless by lap 37 he had passed two cars to get up to fourth place and had also set the fastest lap of the race however heading into turn one his right rear wheel parted company with the car and threw him out of the race this would also mean the end of his championship run but honestly hill ran a flawless race veal nerve's only possible means of winning would have been to ram him off the road and while this ideology most probably wasn't on his mind it would rear its ugly head just 12 months later for now however he was formula one vice champion and had four wins in his main season that is impressive no matter what way you look at it and obviously there was a fair amount of anticipation heading into the 97 season as villeneuve had been promoted to first driver within the team after hill left for the arrows team following william's decision to drop him therefore valenor would have a new teammate for the 97th season in heinz harold hopeless nah actually princeton wasn't a bad driver villeneuve was on course for his maiden title at least according to the experts but at the first round in melbourne he retired on the first corner of the first lap after being eddie irvined but redemption would come at the next round in interlagos the old nerf took the pole ahead of ferrari driver and eventual main rival michael schumacher however while vilnev was on the pole he found himself on the grass at term 1 as schumacher sailed through luckily for vel nerf however the race was red flags after rubens baroquello's car refused to leave the grid the elner made the most of his second start by [ __ ] that one up too schumacher once again took the lead heading into the center east and straight ahead into the lead however this would last a little under a lap as vilniu would take the lead back and would win the race after an awesome drive with the only setback being when his own car tried to run him down the next race in buenos aires was successful too with vlnerf taking the pole and when schumacher nuked himself out of the race and franson went out with a broken clutch it seemed that velner was in the clear for victory however no one bothered to tell irvine this with a handful of laps to go irvine was right on vlnerv's gearbox leaving the argentine crowd with the moral dilemma of cheering on a ferrari with a british flag on it but vilner kept his nerve to take his second grand prix win of the year and extend his lead in the driver's standings at imola vilnerv took the poll once again and by this stage the championship was beginning to get a little bit more clear the experts seem to be right nothing seemingly can stop this guy however for this race at least he would lead up right until that 40 when his gearbox found out that the race wasn't actually in san marino and julie went on strike until it was this left francine to take the race win and villeneuve's lead in the championship diminished the race in monaco was a disaster for vale nerf struggling with the conditions before retiring on lap 16. the race was won by schumacher who had now taken over the lead in the driver's standings and the next round in spain it seemed the world had been put back in order when vilner took the poll and won the race convincingly from olivier panis and jean-lacey making this the last francophone podium as of this date i think but anyway with this vilnev reclaimed the lead in the points with the next round being in his hometown of montreal he had an opportunity to extend the lead in the standings but instead he slammed into the wall of champions at the end of the second lap ending his race whilst a german went on to take the win and as well as that he also took back the points lead in the next round in france vilnerv gambled on the french weather but ultimately he would finish fourth while schumacher took the win however redemption would come at the british grand prix despite his teammate's best attempts to put all of that into disarray his team didn't help either after a 33 second pit stop which threw him behind schumacher fortunately however schumacher's wheel bearing came adrift and forced him to retire for a brief time mika hakkanen took command of the race although his mercedes engine would quit on him and gave the lead back to vilner jacques took the win and the seesaw battle in the championship continued next stop deutschland with a local crowd that had gathered were wondering if their boy could win it all again instead it would be gerhard bergeron pole who had spent three grand prix away due to a sinus problem and the death of his father but where was vilnerv well he wasn't in second and he wasn't in third in fact he qualified in ninth place not ideal but the old hockenheim layout was a little notorious for killing cars and occasionally people so as long as he could stay out of trouble all would have been well for the championship right yeah well promised at some point during the race villeneuve sought to find out how deep the gravel trap is at hockenheim the answer really freaking deep and that meant the race was over for him schumacher would take second place although the race would be won by burger his last grand prix win and the last by an austrian as of this day come the next round in hungary and vilna would regain the speed that he had seemingly lost although this would be disturbed by the presence of damon hill and his arrows who to the shock of everyone put it on the second row of the grid and would lead the race for the vast majority of proceedings that was until the arrows machinery had failed him and gifted the win to vilnerv on the last slap of the race no less that is pain the points between himself and schumacher closed up once again and would take pole position in the next race in belgium however when sunday came along water was added to the circuit which made the perfect environment for one michael schumacher the ferrari driver blitzed the field while vilner fell to fifth then of course came monza where scores of italians gathered to cheer on for the ferraris and throw apples at anyone not driving a red car unfortunately for them ferrari would not emerge victorious that day but schumacher still led villeneuve by 10 points in the standings with four races to go but however strong the williams was schumacher was the captain now but when the formula one circus reached austria the tide would turn the ulnar would dominate the weekend while schumacher fell to sixth after passing frensen under yellow flags and then at the nurburgring vlnerv would win again while schumacher retired after ralph mounted his ferrari this pushed vilna's lead out to nine points with only two rounds remaining which means he could win the title in japan if he finished ahead of schumacher in the race a fairly straightforward plan right well that was until the fia broke out the rule book on saturday morning practice vlnerve passed the grief-stricken car of joss verstappen and while this on its own wouldn't warrant a race ban he had committed the same offence three times prior and this did warrant a ban so villeneuve was thrown out and was only allowed to race under appeal this was a ballsy move by williams because eddie jordan did the same thing for eddie irvine three years prior the result of that the one race band they initially got was extended to three because if the all-nerve ended up taking the pole but the ferrari team got the better of him during the race and so villeneuve fell down the pack the team later withdrew the appeal while schumacher took the win and the championship lead along with it the championship battle between schumacher and villeneuve was down to a single point heading into the final round at hereth before the weekend kicked off and even during the course of it there was some talk in the media with regards to schumacher you see shumi had gained notoriety for what happened in 1994 this was the incident that decided the 1994 season a deliberate action that brought the motor racing world into distribute this left a sour taste in everyone's mouths so naturally with the championship being as close as it was heading into hereth theodore made a point to remind everyone that schumacher may exercise the same gymnastics once again qualifying was slightly interesting with vlnerv setting a time of 121.072 schumacher responded by setting a time of 121.072 yeah exactly the same and to further add to the what the factor for instance at a time of 121.072 yeah all three drivers set exactly the same time in the championship decider because he had set the time first the nerf was awarded pole position with schumacher alongside veon have lit up the tyres off the line which looked cool as a spectacle but it had the slight downside of him losing the lead to schumacher friendson also went past which wasn't in the script and eventually let vilnius back through to pursue schumacher and when the two eventually caught up villanov sensed an opportunity to pass and then that's when it happened it happened again only this time sumi was left in the sandbox while vilnerv went on ahead proceeding gingerly to make sure his car didn't spontaneously combust in actuality the illness car was damaged and unbeknownst to anyone the battery was only attached to the car by the cables but all he needed was that one point he didn't even need to win the race which is why when the mclarens went past on the last lap it didn't matter he got what he needed he had done it he was world driver's champion son of the great jill villeneuve a man who was one of the greatest drivers ever to not win a world title jr could accomplish the dream such a feel-good moment for schumacher however the world looked at him in a very different light the media crucified him the fans despised him and his image was once again tarnished he was disqualified from the 1997 season standings and once again bought the sport into disrepute yorn of meanwhile was having a whale of a time as well as winning the world championship he was named canada's athlete of the year he was made an officer of the national order of quebec and as mentioned at the start of the film he attended the bell center in front of 21 000 confused hockey fans who were praying that this guy would be some kind of good luck charm for the montreal canadiens it seems as if canada really rallied around their boy here but i'm not entirely sure about that can i get a canadian to explain what this is all about well then josh thanks so much for having me on and hello to all the folks who are likely confused as to why the person on their screen has such a weird accent now i'm going to be real up front with all of you right now jack valenov won his title back in the great year of 1997. and i wasn't born yet which means i haven't been alive to witness a canadian win a championship and i likely won't be for a very long time and that just kind of hurts but when i can say as a certified canadian we do tend to rally around our sports team since we don't have that many that are on the world stage we tend to lock on to ones that do incredibly well take bianca andreesky tennis superstar for example at the age of 19 years old she won a grand slam title in the us open against serena williams and the entire country was just elated and burst into celebration and thus a superstar at the age of 19 was born or for example the toronto raptors the only canadian nba team won their championship back in 2019 and i'm just gonna let josh put some pictures of the pre-coveted parade up on the screen and you tell me how you think we reacted to that championship it was insane now let's get back to formula one because that's in fact what this video is about when jack won his title i can only imagine people were happy and relieved that canadian finally was able to win a championship especially after jacque's own father giovilnov lost the championship by just four points to jody shakhtar back in 1979. now when it comes to the reaction to his championship in canada itself i was hard-pressed to find much of anything of significance of canadians celebrating his achievement other than of course josh already mentioning in his video his standing ovation at the bell center for the terrible montreal canadiens but that's besides the point he at least had some sort of reaction but nothing near to the level of what i mentioned with andreaskie and the raptors now this is all likely because jack doesn't really seem to care about how he's perceived here in the great white north he mentioned on his beyond the great podcast with tom clarkson that he doesn't feel the same connection with canada that he did when he was a child because he's flown and lived in all these different places and regions and countries in the world and just doesn't have that same connection to his home country and of course it is fantastic to know that there's a canadian f1 champion on the record books but as a die-hard fan of the sport and a patriotic canadian i kind of wish that our champion heard a bit more about his presence in the sport and possibly bringing more canadians into loving the sport that we all know and love so it's just kind of sad well that's going to be a bullet for me now i'm going to throw it back over to josh we can finish the rest of this year video you may think i'm a modest for having some of these opinions but that's okay i'll apologize for you sorry that was about as canadian as justin trudeau in a mountie wielding a beaver while riding a moose that actually would make an amazing movie nevertheless a formula one card driven by a veal nerve had the number one on it that by all accounts is a good thing but this was about as good as his career was going to get because from here it gets a bit rocky 1998 comes around and vilner remains with williams but i mean hey let's face it there was no reason to abandon the championship winning team right well this was the start of a new era in terms of what the cars looked like and behaved like consequently some teams moved up and some teams moved down guess which way it went for williams it also didn't help that chief designer adrian newey had fled to mclaren and that the engine was essentially a re-badged version of last year's unit the effects of this the team went without a win for the 98 season the first race was quite reflective of the decline in performance while friends and vilner would finish third and fifth respectively they were both light by the mclarens he would go on to achieve podiums in germany and hungary and in his home race of montreal he attempted an epic move around the outside of giancarlo for cicala to take the lead but also ended up sliding off the road into the gravel an activity which strangely doesn't win you races by the end of the season villeneuve finished p5 in the driver's standings which wasn't all bad given what the williams was that season but for jacques it wasn't good enough and he was about to hand in his notice because his manager craig pollock had managed to kick start a new grand prix team called british american racing or bar for short and obviously given the connections the all nerve was given priority signing for the team in fact this was announced on the 23rd of july in 1998 midway through the 98 season and it was also around this time that vlnerv was offered a seat at another team mclaren yep apparently boy he was offered a contract to mclaren to drive alongside mika hakkinen from the 99th season onwards now we can go into the ifs and what ifs here but instead let's actually see what happened to mr vilnerv after moving to bar for the 99 season well right out of the gate the team flaunted the slogan of a tradition of excellence what tradition it's your first year in formula one your heavy breathing malcontent another laughable stunt they pulled off was trying to run two different liveries on their cars but seeing as how this was against the rules the fia came down upon them and told them to fix it so how did they fix it with this god-awful ugly looking thing that they slept on what was called the bar-01 which doesn't sound so much like an f1 chassis name but more like a law exam actually the law thing is a bit ironic considering these guys didn't seem to be able to read rules and it was perhaps their illiteracy that led to their incompetency throughout the entire season technical director adrian renard had set the target of pole position and race win in their first race well that's a heck of a badass promise that didn't happen it wasn't even close to happening the car was relatively decent on the pace front but it was chronically unreliable so much so that in vilnius first 11 races he ended up retiring from the grand prix and then even when he did have a chance to finish a race his best result was 8th at monza granted not all retirements were down to mechanical issues some were down to him that crash you just saw that was a result of a bet between himself and teammate zonta to see who could drive flight out through radion which back then wasn't freaking possible both cards were destroyed and what was the stupidest bit in formula one history since bernie challenged flav to a hot dog eating contest so jacques villeneuve 1997 formula one world champion finished off the 99th season unclassified given his inability to score any points throughout the season and guess what the team itself didn't score points either many were wondering if this was worth the 20 million dollars that was being afforded to jacques every year i mean in his eyes of course it was sometimes you've got to take a little risk to get what you want right well in staying with the team for 2000 it did get a tad better i mean immediately the team scored points in their first race with villeneuve getting fourth and teammate ricardo zonta finishing in p6 sure he got enough points finishes throughout the year to finish seventh in the championship which honestly wasn't bad but unreliability was still an issue and probably cost violent a position or two in the standings but compete to teammate zonta it was still a relatively successful season but to think he could have gone over to mclaren just the year prior and put himself into championship contention it was all ancient history at this point though 2001 year three of his bar experience now paired up with olivier panus there was a little more hope heading into the season the first round of melbourne showed promise early on but that wasn't the biggest talking point coming from that race [Music] the honor and ralph schumacher collided on lap five taking them both out of the race and the flying debris resulted in the death of a marshal graham beveridge schumacher accused villeneuve of driving beyond his ability and ultimately being the cause of the accident the rest of the season was relatively unspectacular say for two podiums at catalonia and hockenheim the most notable piece of trivia to take from that podium at hockenheim is that it would ultimately turn out to be his last podium of his formula one career that kind of tells you how the rest of his formula one career goes so it's 2002 same team albeit new management now pollock is gone and in comes pro drive boss david richards good news for the team not so much though for vlnerv that megabucks salary that he was being offered when he signed up for this gig well that was being brought into question the car was nowhere near as good as it was in previous seasons and villeneuve himself was becoming less and less comfortable in the team that was becoming less and less comfortable with him he would outscore his teammate for this year but 2003 would see a slight change in fortune 2003 was vilner's final year with bar although there was talks of him returning to the indycar scene for that year before returning to bar for the 2004 and 2005 seasons instead however he remained with bar for the 03 season as he was hoping to draw the attention of other teams on the formula one grid his problem however was that his new teammate was jensen button the ulner's performances paled in comparison with button finishing in the points on a much more consistent basis than velner what this meant was that by the final random suzuka vlnerv was replaced with takuma sato bringing his time at bar to an end and for the time being released out of formula one altogether because there was no contract in place room at the beginning of 2004 which was ironic given that had he taken up that potential indie deal he would have been back to bar for the o4 season which was when bar was at its peak however velnev would be back in a formula one car by the back end of 2004. this time at renault this was because regular driver jano truly had fallen out of favor of the team's walking water bid flavio briatori ultimately after a few phone calls between jacques and the renault hierarchy vlad decided that vilner was worth the punt and so the canadian was back on the grid for the chinese grand prix problem was that in the three races that he had with renault velner failed to score any points while teammate fernando alonso performed extremely respectably granted you can argue that the lack of seat time throughout the year hurt him but we are talking about a world champion here better things were expected but the rest is history and so villeneuve headed into the 2005 season with a point to prove only this time he would be driving for sauber despite a good qualifying performance in australia he was the slowest michelin shot driver on the grid in the opening part of the year rumors abound that he was going to get the sack although his points finish in emily did raise a few eyebrows and suggested that maybe he still had it in him to race this optimism was brought down to a crushing halt when at the monaco grand prix villeneuve attempted an ambitious move down at san divalt and forced teammate felipe massa off the road these heroics were a reminder that 1997 was a long time ago when all was said and done the two are relatively evenly matched throughout the year for pace but while massa departed for ferrari in 2006 velnev remain with sauber oh yeah before we progress any further we need to dig up something from earlier in the film remember how it said this guy was working on some music while he was over in japan well that wasn't a one-off consequence of wasabi hallucinations villeneuve had his heart set on music and now that he had a bit of money to his name he went ahead and started producing his own stuff which culminated in the release of his first single acceptor 2 which i can't play for you right now as i don't have the license for that song not that you're missing out on much actually i'll be honest i don't think it was that bad promise it didn't sell when he released his album private paradise he had only sold 263 copies worldwide within a month of release granted it probably didn't help that some of the songs on that record included women come women go and why did you come old or an orgasm honestly all this sounds like a plotline for a crappy adam sandler film actually how would that look by the way john filner has it all he is the pride of montreal and formula one champion of the world until one day where he decided to become a musician you suck and now he's about to find out that to be a musician you have to strike a chord starring jacques villeneuve is jacques the owner and heinz harold franson as the woman he loved jacques vilner is the musician really pg-13 [Music] yeah but you're all here for the racing stuff aren't you paired with nick heifeld villeneuve was off the pace relative to his german teammate for the majority of the 2006 season and then came the german grand prix where villeneuve went off at the final corner on lap 31 a minor excursion very minor by his standards although he apparently sustained an injury as a result of it what this meant was that for the next round in hungary he would be replaced by one of formula one's most popular characters yep robert kubitsa and unfortunately for jacques kubitsu did bloody well on his debut weekend for jacques the writing was on the wall likelihood was that bmw salva was going to go with kubitsa or at least pressure vulnerable to do better for vilnerv he felt he was a proven quantity which is why he was behind heightfeld in the standing days after the hungarian grand prix it was announced that valenor had left the team leaving him out of the drive again by this stage there was no other team around him to save him as the general perception of him had dwindled and no opportunity would come about until 2010 when stefan grand prix were looking to enter the new season along with the other new teams but of course stefan grompery never materialized there were also rumors of him trying to create his own formula one team but again nothing and that was it that was the end of his formula one career so what happened after he left the formula one paddock well he kind of tried doing everything really he tried his hand at le mon and why wouldn't he a win in this great race would give him the coveted triple crown and motorsport he already won indy and the formula one world championship all he needed was this race he came close to no7 and 08 however he could not claim that triple crown he also competed sporadically in nascar mainly on road courses though where he performed exceptionally when he wasn't slamming into everything in sight he also made an attempt in the v8 supercar series in australia which went pretty well actually until the race started and there goes he spun around in the bundle entry he also made a triumphant return to indy in 2014 although he would finish a moderate 14th place behind teammate simon pagino he drove for three races in the formula e series with venturi with the best result of 11th place and has spent the last two years driving in the euro nascar series with relative success overall what do we have to say about this guy's career i mean it started out all triumphant and hopeful and full of glee and now he's competing in a european nascar series without having won a race in any category since 2008 and let's not forget either his prominence in the media today he's known for his outlandish opinions on drivers especially today's ones with a particular hatred towards sir lancelot his presence in the media has given off a negative public perception of the guy with some even claiming him to be an illegitimate world champion given his inability to achieve much after his title win in 97. how did we get here my question is does it matter we all have to say hell i make a living out of it but this is a guy who has won the indy 500 who has won multiple grand prix who has won the world drivers championship that wasn't all by chance none of it was disagree if you may so wish but he has an idea or two about what it takes to get to formula one while jacques villeneuve had what could best be described as a career in reverse he deserves to be recognized as a champion but i suppose that that little inspiring locker room speech did nothing for you i'm gonna have to solicit some outside assistance here hey man how are you doing yeah bro i'm
