as you can see today i am very very excited this is my excited face i'm excited because today i'm going to be reviewing the highly anticipated kg 935 g gmrs handheld walkie-talkie and of course as you would expect mine is going to be the very first review of this radio that you're going to find on youtube the price for the kg935g the most highly anticipated gmrs radio of the year is 149 affiliate not just love this radio but you are going to lust over this radio the kg 935g brand new just released just shipping has everything that you would want in a gmrs handheld radio allow me to read through a list of the features i'm going to read through the list because every time i try to go by memory i always forget something and then somebody leaves a comment saying well what about this what about this i'm like damn you guys are actually paying attention this isn't a list of every feature this is a list of the features that appeal to me that i think in turn will appeal and interest you my favorite viewer the kg-935g is ip66 rated which means it's fully dust proof and almost completely waterproof don't drop it in the lake but you can play with it in the rain it can get wet you can splash on it almost almost fully waterproof up to 5.5 watts of power new high resolution color screen i love this new screen we're going gonna go over the screen it's a nice screen dual channel receive fm radio noaa you've got your standard 22 gmrs channels plus the eight repeater channels split tones tone scan so if somebody's talking using tones you can scan to see what tone they're using so you can join in on their conversation talk around 999 channels to store pretty much anything that means you can store multiple repeaters on the same frequency using different tones as many as you want well up to 999. the radio is able to receive from 136 to 174 megahertz and 400 to 479 megahertz this is a gmrs radio so it will only allow you to transmit on gmrs frequencies and you do need a gmrs license to transmit using this radio if you don't already have your gmrs license why don't you it's very easy there's no test you just send the fcc some money to use our free airwaves the fcc website is a little complicated cumbersome not very user friendly so for a step-by-step guide on how to purchase your gmrs license check there d scrambler remember that redivus radio that i reviewed a week or so ago that has a scrambling feature this radio will de-scramble that scrambling so that you can listen in on somebody using that type of d-scrambler and it has two programmable buttons on the side that you can assign two different functions to for each one i'll go over that and the list of what you can assign to it is very large you can highly customize this radio if you watch my channel you know that i don't do unboxing videos because unboxing videos are stupid but i am going to go over what's in the box so that if you buy the kg935g available only at buy2arradios.com affiliate link below if you buy one you'll know what you're getting and i know that you're very excited to see how this radio works so i'm just gonna quickly go through what's in the box with little or no discussion so when you purchase the kg935g you will get a warranty card for the one year warranty on the radio you will receive a owner's manual a thick owner's manual 86 pages one of the best and well written user guides that you're going to find anywhere for any radio perfect english it's written for beginners it does not assume that you're a radio expert so it explains everything very well all the options everything ocean wookson and by2arradios.com who customize this manual understands that you can tell how good a radio is by the quality of the manual by how much time and effort they put into the manual and they put a lot of time and effort into this manual you will receive a belt clip and two small screws which affix the belt clip to the radio directly not to the battery you will receive this handsome wrist strap you will receive a 110 120 volt charger plug which goes into the charger that you will receive with the radio [Music] you will receive a battery for the radio [Music] 3 200 milliamp hours and both the battery and the charger are the same battery and same charger that the kg905g uses so if you already have a 905g the batteries and the charger are interchangeable you will receive an antenna which is tuned specifically for the gmrs range 462 to 467 megahertz and this antenna is slightly longer than the antennas that ship with the kg 805 and kg 905 this is the kg 805 and 905 antenna this is the kg935g antenna and you'll see it's about two inches longer i think that's because this is a half wavelength i'm not sure i haven't done the math but it is a bigger antenna than what comes with the 805 and 905 g and of course what we have all been waiting for the wookson ocean kg kg935 gmrs radio before we go any further let's do this so let's get right into it battery goes in easily [Music] fancy little splash screen when it first turns on that's new and you will see right off the bat the new high resolution color display a lot of stuff going on but not too much stuff i don't like complicated interfaces there's more stuff going on here than what you'll find on a kg 805 or kg 905 but it's not overly complicated and i'll show you some of the things that make it easier to understand what's going on here now the screen is not the best in bright sunlight probably the only drawback the only negative i've found so far with this radio is that in bright direct sunlight it does wash out you would have to put your hand over it to get a little shade on it to see it in bright sunlight the radio has dual receive and from what i understand it's actually two radios inside so it's true dual receive you're truly listening to two different frequencies at once not quickly switching between like some other radios do some of the things are customizable as you can see that top line is customizable right now i'm monitoring two channels repeater channel 20 and repeater channel 19 and this here indicates that this is the main channel meaning that if i were to press the talk to transmit or if i change a knob or a button it's going to apply to this one not this one so it makes it very easy to see which one you're actually on and transmitting on using the free software you can customize things like the channel names she does sound nice i'm starting to like her so as you can see i've customized the name of my repeater so far to transmit now because that's the main one it would transmit on that channel versus this channel i can switch between the two by pressing the band button now the lower one is my main one so if i change the channel or do anything it's going to affect the lower one so now i'm on this channel so if i were to talk or change the dials it would affect this one i can switch back now i'm on my upper one now as i've said in many videos i don't usually like the dual monitoring feature because it's too confusing who was talking which channel was talking when i transmit am i talking to this one or that one the kg 935 makes it less confusing so i've got this big red indicator so i know when i press the talk button who i'm going to be talking to which channel i'll be talking to but the other thing that this radio does that makes it less confusing when you're monitoring two frequencies is it shows an indicator telling you which channel was the last one that received anything so if the radio is sitting down across the room and i hear somebody and i run back over to the radio it tells me which channel last received anything it does that by this little flashing looks like a little telephone so anytime someone transmits and it receives anything on either of the two channels that little phone there is going to blink so that i know which was the last one that received anything so if i look at the radio i'll know where the last signal came in from just another thing that makes it less confusing when you're monitoring two channels if however you're old school like me and you still don't want to listen to two channels because it's too confusing you can turn that off right there pressing the tdr button you've got the mode button here so you can switch into vfo mode or channel mode you can display the channel on the corner so you can change between channel number display and the customized name that you put in you can put in all the names and customization you can do all of the programming from the radio without a computer it is much easier though if you do it using the free software it's not yet compatible with chirp but you can download the software from my2warradios.com for free and you will need a programming cable it's the same programming cable that the kg805 and kg 905 and many radios use they've customized the menu system they've rearranged them so that they make a little more sense the order in which the menu items appear and they've added a few things so let's go through them so squelch is the first item probably the most commonly used item oh before i do that let's give you a tour of the radio i almost forgot that so we've got your on and off knob here channel selection here it uses a standard sma mail connector female on the antenna [Music] has a flashlight it has separate led indicators for transmit and receive nice clicky push to talk button two programmable function buttons each of these buttons can be programmed for two different functions depending on whether you hold it press it and hold it or click it quickly i'll go through those options in a minute and you've got your trap door here for connecting the programming cable which is the standard k-type programming connector or you can put an external microphone or headset in and of course the battery on the back which is easy to remove i like her more every time i hear so back to the menu items so the second item is transmit power which is probably the most commonly used option so it's right up there at the front so you don't have to go scrolling up forever to find it there are shortcut keys that you can use for many of the functions for example if i wanted to go to the ctcss option i can just hit nine you can switch for any channel between white almost any channel between wide band and narrow band if wideband is allowed on the channel there's a few work that are restricted to narrow band only and out of the box everything is wide band except for those few channels 7 through 13 or whatever that are restricted to narrowband there is a adjustable brightness level for the screen the lower it goes the better it is on the battery life but the harder it is to see the setting allows you to lower the screen brightness automatically after a certain amount of time so say after five seconds you want the screen to power down a little it will dim down and save you some battery weather alerts so that if there's a weather alert for your area it will auto automatically let you know theme this allows you to change the look and feel the theme of the display it has a few different ones to choose from every time you change it it has to restart the entire radio for it to take effect [Music] it does have a roger beep so of course we want to turn that on eot means end of transmission so it will beep when i let go of the key and yes i did just key up with no antenna connected the radio did not blow up the radio did not burn out and the radio was not damaged if you want to see what will really happen if you key up your radio without an antenna watch that video now for these side buttons here programmable function 1 and programmable function two you can program them to do something when you short press it and when you long hold it and the list of options you can choose from several items to assign each button so i'll just go through some of those here flashlight scanning call select for group calls you can set these to as push to talk buttons for the two different channels if you're monitoring two different channels you can leave it undefined which means don't do anything can change the brightness go into scanning mode just all sorts of things you can set these buttons to do but of course the big question is how many's far can i talk the range on the kg-935g available only at my2warradios.com is the same as all the other high-powered gmrs handhelds that i've tested i'm able to hit my friend conrad from sitting right here 13 miles away i'm able to hit my favorite repeater 30 miles away and my other favorite repeater 69 miles away i'm not going to waste your time and show you all those things because i know that your time is very valuable it transmits just fine but does it actually put out five up to five and a half watts like they claim so i have my new fancy power meter great little power meter that shows up very well on the overhead camera so i'm going to go to a high power channel make sure that we're set to high power i can see that little sideways h let's see what kind of power we're getting out of this thing you can see the power right there still transmitting 5.4341 watts so just over 5 watts as promised so it is putting out pretty much exactly what wookson ocean claims it will output that is pretty much it there's not a whole lot more to go over it's got all the same features as every other gmrs radio it transmits as well or better than any other handheld i've used it's got the great high resolution color screen that's not overcrowded it doesn't give you information overload lots of features lots of functionality this is my new favorite radio so who should buy this who is this radio made for it's made for everyone from the couch potato and basement dweller to the outdoor adventurer very rugged near waterproof easy to use easy to see not the greatest in bright sunlight so if doing this is an issue maybe this radio isn't for
