[Music] so last month I built this what I said to be the smallest 4060 gaming PC I've seen yet and looks like you guys really liked it and so I wanted to see what was possible with a 470 and that's what I have here the small smallest 470 build I've seen yet at only 4.9 l in internal volume it's only 1 L larger than the 460 build so it can still fit into an everyday backpack weighs in at 10 lb but this one can support a dual slot GPU up to 270 mm in length still with an internal power supply and just enough room to cool a mid-range CPU so that's what we're going to build today later on we'll talk about this video sponsor better help but for now let's check out the components I chose for this build and see what it's like to put everything together for the CPU this time I'm going to be using the AMD 7600 this should work well enough with the 4070 and shouldn't be a bottleneck at 1440p which is the resolution that I'm targeting for this build this has got a 65 wat TDP which is going to be important for this case as we only have 37 mm for a CPU Cooler so a lower watt CPU will be easier for us to cool the 7600 is one of the more affordable CPUs in the 7000 series lineup and it's reasonably efficient it has six cores 12 threats and it can boost up to 5.1 GHz now if you do prefer Intel CPUs I would take a look at the I5 13400 that's the one I used in the velco 3 video that one also has a 65 wat tdb but I've also found that it runs a bit cooler when paired with the same lowprofile CPU Cooler that I'll be using today however the 7600 is faster in game as for the am5 motherboard we're going to be using the b650 EI from Asus I use this board a lot in all of my ITX builds but for a good reason for I/O has plenty of USB including two type-c Wi-Fi 60 built in 2.5 gig ethernet and a bios flashback button it has this very understated black design for the vrm cooling array two m.2 slots the front one with a black back plate and heat sink and then the other on the back I have this gigabyte board that I like a lot as well the only reason you don't see it more often in my videos is because I find that all the adapters is a pain to manage especially with the front panel one if they would have at least just put the front panel iio directly on the board I would probably use it more often another option I've used is the MSI B 650i no complaints on that one it works great if you're going for a white aesthetic now in the front m.2 slot I have a single 2 TB Samsung 980 pro stick there are some SATA drive mounting points in this case if you need to expand your storage in the future but m.2 drives are going to get you the fastest speeds so now would be the easiest time to fill the back slot if you think you're going to need it we're also going to need some low clearance Ram so I have this kit from Corsair this is a 32 gig set of ddr5 6000 memory from their Vengeance line these sit about 35 mm height which will work great for this case as we don't have much more room beyond that they have a solid aluminum heat spreader to help dissipate some heat they perform well and I think they look quite good now the ultra lowprofile CPU Cooler I'm going to be using is the noctua nhl9a I use the Intel 1700 socket version of this cooler in the Vela 3 and was really happy with the thermal performance and noise levels so I figured we can try it out with the 7600 as well this cooler is 37 mm in height which is the max recommended height for the Vela 5 these coolers are not Universal though so you'll want to make sure that you get the correct one for your CPU socket for this one it's the l9a am5 but for example if you're going with the Intel 1700 then you would want to look for the 17xx version because of how small this cooler is it's going to have its limitations on what CPUs it can properly cool I highly recommend you go to noct to's website and look at the compatibility list if you're planning to use a different CPU now paired with the 7600 at stock using a standard fan profile I'm seeing temps in the mid 7s to low 80s after around an hour playing cyberpunk 2077 a lot of these 7,000 series CPUs run a bit warmer so this is actually pretty reasonable for a 7600 with such a small cooler now it's not running as cool as this setup was with the 13400 which I was seeing around the low 60s in a similar situation but you're going to get faster gaming performance out of this processor so let's take a closer look at the case this is the Vela 5 from velc case it's their 3.0 revision and they've updated it from previous versions with a full steel construction a textured finish an optional stand for direct GPU iio access and a few other things that we're going to talk about later now just like the other cases from velc case this is very compact at only 4.9 l in internal volume and has a pretty unique build process compared to most cases so let's take a minute to talk about today's sponsor Better Health taking care of your mental health is very important I know it feels like life comes at you from all directions and it's easy to feel completely burnt out finding a therapist and even finding time for therapy can be hard and that's how better help can help betterhelp is an online platform that that connects you with a licensed therapist trained to listen and give helpful unbiased advice you can have your therapy sessions on your own time and however you feel the most comfortable whether that's a phone call video chat or even over messaging mental health is quite the journey but it's an important one to get started all you have to do is answer a few questions to help identify your specific needs and match you with a therapist and in most cases you're matched within 48 hours if you don't connect with that therapist then that's no problem you can easily switch to another one at no additional cost over 4 million people have used better heal to start living healthier and happier lives so if you think that you might benefit from therapy consider better heal visit betterhelp.com johston to get started I've also added the link into the description below clicking the link does help support this channel but it'll also give you 10% off your first month with better help so that you can connect with the therapist and see if it helps you so first we need to remove the front panel by removing the four screws located at the top and the bottom of the case then once we slide that off we can access all the side panel screws hidden underneath the front panel and on the back of the case now once we have the side panels off we can access this black piece which is actually an optional stand if you want direct access to the GPU iio without flipping the case and having this cord stick out of the top now there is another cleaner option for the GPU iio that we're going to talk about later but for now let's remove the back two supporting brackets and then a few screws along the sides in the back to remove the center motherboard tray okay now that we have the case taken apart we can start to assemble all of our components so let's grab the motherboard and attach it to the tray then we can flip the tray over and then we can grab our PCI Express Riser cable now you can get the same super flexible one like I have here directly from velc cas's website and there are two screws that hold this little bracket into place we can feed the Riser cable through that to keep it all tidy then plug one end the PCI Express slot into the motherboard and on the other side you have two options you can run a short GPU horizontally or what I'm going to do a much longer GPU vertically so we just need to bend the Riser cable and then secure it okay so now that we're ready for our GPU I will be using the founders Edition 470 the 4070 is a pretty well-known GPU at this point it's incredibly efficient has all the same AI upscaling features from this generation of gpus but in a super compact package that keeps the same overall looks as its bigger Brothers now price was a big concern when this thing first launched at $100 more than the 3070 but since then it's not too difficult to find one at around the $550 price point which is not as low as we'd like but it is progress given that the power consumption of this card is at 200 WTS or below it does make it a good fit for a small build just like the 480 and 490 though we've got a flowthrough design with fans on either side and that makes this not as ideal for these sandwich style cases compared to a traditional fan setup even so playing through something GPU intensive like Allen wake 2 at the high preset without any upscaling or rate tracing I'm seen the GPU tempts rarely exceed 67° C but that doesn't mean that we're not blowing hot air onto the back of the flex PSU still this power supply doesn't seem to be phased as there is a nice gap between it and the motherboard allowing for a lot of that hot air to escape and the power supply has been completely silent still if this is a concern for you I also picked up a 470 from PNY that has a traditional dual fan setup to test out as well the attempts with the PNY 470 are not much different but at least with this card you can know that you're not blowing additional hot air onto your power supply if you worried about that and another plus is that this car just uses a standard 8 Pin power connector so you don't have to mess around with one of those horrible 12vt high power adapters it also helps that velc case included some additional standoffs to improve the air flow with these flowthrough style gpus this probably wouldn't be necessary if you have your case oriented with the GPU iio top facing but if you do decide to have it facing towards the bottom it will give you that extra space for the hot air to escape as far as gaming performance goes at 1440p in cyberpunk Phantom Liberty at the ultra preset but turning off all upscaling I'm getting 50 to 60 frames per second then switching to the ray Trace Ultra preset and utilizing all the AI features like dlss in frame generation I'm seeing over 100 frames per second now switching over to Alan Wake 2 1440p high preset with no dlss or R Racing we are getting a very playable 65 to 70 frames per second but Allen wake 2 also has some of those upscaling features and R tracing so with r tracing on high dlss at quality and with frame generation on we're getting over 90 frames per second this is some pretty insane performance at a such a tiny machine okay now that the GPU is installed we can slide the center tray with all the components attached into the outer case and then rescure it then let's grab the power supply this is a 600 W Flex ATX power supply that can also be picked up directly from the velc website at 600 WS this is definitely more than enough to power our system here I'm measuring around 300 WTS from the wall wind gaming so let's take it and secure it into the case with a few screws then plug in our motherboard and CPU connectors then the two eight pins into the adapter for the 4070 now from here there's a couple of additional options that you do have the first one that I would recommend is picking up an internal display port or HDMI extension adapter there are these cutouts on the back that will allow you to mount the receiving end so that you don't have to access the GPU iio either from the top which looks a bit silly or with the need to use the optional stand to prop the case up enough for the cables the other option is to feed a cable through one of the holes and into the GPU but overall the cleanest option would be to get an internal extension there's also two 40 mm fan mounting points at the back for some additional air flow and with the way I have things configured here there is a dedicated spot in the front of the power supply to mount a SATA drive all that's left to do is to rescure the back two supporting brackets plug the power button from the front cover into the motherboard secure those two side panels first and then finally rescure that front panel and that's the build complete so yeah this is a very Compact and Powerful gaming PC and I do think it's pretty impressive just how much we can fit into such a small 4.9 L case now at the time of this posting this case and all the components I've used are available on Amazon or the velc case website so if you're interested in building something like this yourself make sure to check out the links in the description also if you want to see what builds I have upcoming feel free to follow me on Instagram anyway I want to know what you guys think about the build in the comments below I really hope you enjoyed the video thanks for watching and I will see you in the next one
