Woodworking Tip: Pocket-Hole Jig Workstation

[Music] it should come as no surprise that I find that having a pocket hole jig in my workshop helps me make quick and easy assemblies now by itself the pocket hole jig is pretty handy but you can upgrade it with a few simple techniques to get even more out of it and help you get better results now we've shown a few of these upgrades in other parts of the show but I wanted to highlight this particular workstations advantages it starts off with this large top now the top is nice because if I'm working with long pieces or wide panels I can set it in place and they're gonna stay stable that's because the jig itself is recessed so that it's flush with the top that also acts as a nice way to carry the whole workstation now down below there are a few other details that I want to point out the workstation itself sits on basically an open-ended plywood box now the box is all joined with pocket holes naturally and what I have inside here are four plastic containers that I just picked up at one of the local discount stores now these containers are all subdivided to hold my extra screws the plugs drill bits and driver bits that I need to work with the jig the key thing though is before you build this workstation is to have your containers in hand that way you can size the box to fit those containers if you try and build it directly from some plans and then try and get the boxes later you're sure to be disappointed another thing I want to point out is that there's a stop along this front part here that keeps the containers from falling out there's also another pair of stops on the back at the top and the bottom so that they're gonna not slide out the back either the base of this unit is extended so that way I can clamp it to any flat surface that means I'm not tied to my workbench and I can turn any table into a workstation one final detail as I drilled a hole on each end of the base allows me to hang the workstation on the wall when I'm not using it which isn't very often this is a great way to upgrade your pocket hole jig and help you get the best results [Music] thanks for watching if you enjoyed that video tip be sure to subscribe to the Woodsmith SHOP channel every week we're adding great woodworking tips and woodworking videos all you have to do is hit the bell to be notified plus you'll find project plans and downloads in the description below
