hey everybody welcome back to heartland productions today i'm going to test out the wood burner 2 on my rock box [Music] all right here's the wood burner 2.0 to split some wood up today needs to make the pieces small enough to fit in this tray like this it's around one inch by about five inch five and a half inch give or take and you slide it in put up a little bit more wood first so just get that going careful watching your fingers on this one [Music] like this got a whole big stack here hopefully that'll be enough to do i'm just gonna do one pizza today to test this thing out so i've already detached the gas attachment the burner so i'm gonna put the wood burner two on it's easier just to do this flip it up on its front that way you have direct access to the to the bottom of it it'd be relatively easy slide it on there and straighten it up that's it i'm going to turn it back around [Music] perfect all right let's try to get this thing lit i'm going to put a little bit of paper in there to get it to get it started you use some thinner pieces of wood these are the smallest ones i have okay let's stick that in [Music] it's gonna blow in a little bit to try to get the fire going a little faster i picked the windiest day in the year to do this directions say not to take the tray out just to feed the wood like this so i am and i'm using the smallest pieces i have right now [Music] it looks like a small tray but once you put the pieces of wood the space called it goes all the way up to here you can kind of angle them up and they fit right in fire's going pretty well so far give it a couple minutes let it take off looks like it's been about four or five minutes the fire's just getting rolling good a little bit of a backdrop here again it's very windy out today use this to open it up put a little more wood in [Music] let's close this back up it's been about 15 minutes or so fire's still going strong got all my ingredients all set up this is a frozen dough that i from my vega batch last week so testing it out see how the fire is going it's going hot i tested it oh yeah it's going good you get about six of these pieces in at a time once it's getting it's going hot get a nice good layer of hot coals you can just feed in probably two or three pieces at a time put the wood like that and then use the same tool to open the door and use the tray to kind of gently push it up in there so you don't burn your hands the hardest part of all this was getting the wood cut up like i had to use my miter saw to cut them in half to get them to this length then i had to use my my hatchet to split them up into these little one-inch pieces so that was actually the most time-consuming part of the process just buying kind of pre-cut wood it makes your life a lot easier about 25 minutes the fire is pretty roaring right now let's see what we got right there it's almost at 450. go ahead and start getting the dough ready it does a little over proofed hopefully i can get it out of here semolina down let's try to go up dough that i made last week and i froze a ball kind of as an experiment it's my big dough i let it over proof a little bit so it kind of got a little funky there flip it over once seems like every single one of my neighbors is doing yard work right now so i apologize for all the noise okay kind of over proof so i don't really have to stretch it at all i mean i can stretch it's very loose so i don't want to stretch too much [Music] sauce a little bit of olive oil a little parmesan cheese fresh mozzarella [Music] a little bit of the pepperoni these are mini pepperonis all right now make a little spicy little indusia [Music] okay one thing i'm going to do too is the wind's blowing getting a lot of ash i'm going to kind of scrape the bottom get some of the ass pushed into the back make sure the fire is going well a little more semolina put it on the field stretch it back out a little bit okay let's get this in the oven [Music] looking good so far [Music] seconds this one took about a little more almost two minutes it wasn't up quite the 450. [Music] put this on the pizza pan [Music] not too bad for a frozen dough the crust popped up pretty nicely let's test it out delicious turned out great cleaning up all the mess now one thing i do notice using the wood burner it makes a lot bigger mess the flames going up got poor little rock box all black some hot ashes i'll let these cool down then i'll empty that tray push that back in definitely a noticeable difference between the wood burner one versus the wood burner two which is this one the new one is that it's much easier to load it's much easier to get up to heat it's faster and just about around a hundred dollars if you're going to want to cook with wood it's a great option i think you'll be happy with it regarding taste i didn't really notice a difference between cooking with wood and cooking with gas a lot of people say that they love that wood burning flavor once you get up to like 450 degrees celsius or whatever that around 850 fahrenheit that the pizza is only in there for maximum 90 seconds so the amount of wood flavor you're actually gonna get is minimal if any is that the smell of the wood burning i think it's more of that feel that you feel like you're cooking with wood so i mean it's kind of fun it's it's definitely more involved it's a lot more work so for me just cooking pizza on like a friday night or a wednesday night for the kids i'm going to probably always go with gas just because it's quick and easy on the weekend when i have more time i envision myself being able to use a wood burner a little more like i said the hardest part was just cutting the wood getting the wood so if you're going to be using the wood burner a lot i would recommend ordering the already pre-cut wood from ghazni it'll make your life a lot easier that way you can just have the pieces the exact size you need to fit in the wood burner okay everybody thanks again for watching don't forget to subscribe hit notifications and like this video stay tuned there's a lot of great things coming up in the next month or two [Music] do you
