NCAA runner-up in 2018 that's the American national champions lost that to the second to Maggie Ewing Daniel Thomas Dodd 2019. Championship silver medalist in Doha Jacob Jessica shoulder bronze medal at the world indoor championships in 22. there's Maggie Ewan uh multiple championships won here at Hayward Field during her collegiate career Republic of China visit the Tokyo Olympic Games the world number two first of our two Chinese thrower song jae-won certainly capable of winning the competition Sarah Mitten from Canada title for her earlier this year with a national record of 2033. there is gone one of only swimming to hold both a world championship gold medal and an Olympic gold medal from Portugal Portugal dong Mall she comes in as the second ranked thrower in the world and the top rank throw in the world personal best best in the world this year 2051. is Chase Ely the American begin our competition here's ely's chance to come right out and in the ring with that explosive power and just Powers it past 20 meters my goodness what an opening throw for the American Chase Ely 2051's the number you're looking for in terms of personal best and best throw in the world multi-sport athlete growing up will dig into that as we get deeper into the competition but she is fast in that spin using that speed generating that force and transferring that speed into the ball and forcing it out into the sector and 20 49. Mike what a fantastic opener for her just two centimeters off her season best and what is the world lead and just like that on the first throw the rest of the competition the other 11 ladies know that Mike thank goodness they have a large chore in store for them here now by all accounts the favorite even though she has not thrown much this year not a spinner it's the old Glide long legs out first throw for her she said the two-time defending Champ here six medals this is her eighth World competition six medals two goals he's got a silver a couple of bronze not many more decorated than this woman here her first throw out to 1958. good opening effort here for her but my goodness Chase Healy has put everybody behind the eight ball a little bit with him opener of 2049. he's able to go across and consult with her coach meanwhile from Portugal thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] final twice the finals at the Olympics fourth in Tokyo so she certainly has been ability here to compete for a Podium spot or if not the championship for his throw White Flag though go ahead and Eyeball that one [Music] lighter across that ring so I will get back got to get yourself turned and square those hips and from the hips to the shoulder the shoulder to the arm and the arm from the hand and snap that ball out across the technique trust the training Sarah mitten the National Record holder she comes with the third longest throw in the world Outdoors [Music] and they had a 20 meter yell not sure the ball cooperated with that technique is they spin quickly and explode across the ring snap that ball out 12 best puters in the world here in Eugene Oregon started with a field of 31 athletes so 19 came Oregon and enjoyed the world championship experience 12 more are here to compete for the medals see on the scoreboard behind 18 meters 78th I think English or imperial conversion for the fans here in the stands in America [Music] Tokyo finalist she was fifth last year [Music] delays delayed as well supposed to be Oregon 21 we're here for Oregon 22. still 192 territories represented he said eight different ones in this event energy surrounding Athletics and track and field that has not been felt in this country for some time track meet in the world impeded on American soil for the first time song sits her fourth in the competition drawer [Applause] [Music] acts from the first throw so if we get a mark on that for her she will be better shape [Music] ranked ninth in the world it's your National Record holder referred with the coach apparently likes what she hears thumbs up there 18 meters 29. the younger competitors in this competition 23 years old his second world championship appearance didn't qualify the final in Bill Bond 18 meter 32 throws [Applause] all right not much reaction from that at all [Music] handle your business throw it go back let them Market decide what adjustments need to be made [Applause] she's out over 19 meters so that moves her up a bit Alaska farthest personal best in the competition and that right there was an explosive put from her it's the Glide but there was all kinds of Rage put into that ball it's just huge in the power position locking up against that toe board great timing [Music] strong and violent as that throw is there's great Precision in it 19 meters 84. Ransom [Applause] so you're in Europe [Applause] a lot of ways to get that ball out there strength from the ground up transfer that again build up stretch those core muscles and then release it like a rubber band 17 meters 60. hasn't yet been able to match that personal record she had coming in Navy threw at Oslo and finished eighth and feet [Applause] served [Music] excellent throw time to back up her 19 meters 44th round [Applause] replay there reaches out [Applause] thank you [Applause] stretching for that 20 meter line not quite there I'm born in Cameroon both the national and African record holder transferred her Allegiance and has represented Portugal since 2020 the [Music] spot behind her competition's been underway for about 20 minutes 6 47 in the evening local time she's improves on that second throw 1962. I mean maintains her spot in third but improves by 18 centimeters Jessica shielder [Music] trying to get a Mark here something to measure something to put her in the competition that's an excellent throw that certainly will do that Netherlands obviously excited on the first night of competition here their mixed relay team 4x4 mixed relay ran down the Americans and finished second a fantastic anchor leg by fem Kabul race went Dominican Republic Netherlands International Record and then the United States great start for the Netherlands yeah the shield will go from no Mark and no position and put her all the way up into third 19. 77. Jessica Woodard second throw only competitor now without a mark [Music] it's out there in a second second out there so they'll be a great deal of pressure on her [Music] three round two rounds we go to the third round and currently are the four that need to improve their position if they are to have three more throws here's Maggie Ewing hasn't been at her best in her first two throws here let's see if she can prove purchase as she did on her third floor on the third show qualifications [Applause] better but currently she sits 10th to get into eighth 1829 Thomas Dodd currently at 1829 is the last thrower in that's the market to beat for those below her it's better but a little more hope with that you want to move up from 10th position [Music] 1864 big Improvement for Maggie Eun so again in the third throw she moves up into that eighth spot there are still a couple that can knock her out of that spot haunts in the sweet Connie Roost the Swede and Jessica Woodard her teammate who doesn't have a throw in yet [Music] here's gone we'll just let the brightness wash over you [Applause] indeed gone with a big throw on her third floating the ball out there [Music] standing out as far as possible chasing that 20 eater line it's moving get that momentum going and that ball almost feels weightless throwing it out there [Music] so she continues to improve gong maintains second place but over 20 meters [Music] now the final thrower in the round Jessica Woodard who is yet to make a mark two fouls [Applause] [Music] come up with something better than 1864. could get herself three more [Applause] so she'll get a mark will it be good enough to get her three more throws needs to be 1864 or better 1867 and it is so she goes from no mark a knocking out fellow American Maggie Ewing who had come up big [Applause] that's right wipe the brow a sigh of relief got it when she needed it song jae-won he's next you saw that she just got bumped down a spot so now she'll see if she can take that back and maybe even go better [Music] Fierce screamed from song as she releases that one her best throw like Ely was in the first round 19 meters 21. certainly could be an improvement [Applause] [Music] there you go positive reaction there she will I will take sixth place back thank you he's gone he's improved with every round and every throw and again the big one out past the 20 meter line extraordinary athlete athlete that knows how to perform under Championship conditions not intimidated she knows she's the Intimidator or go out and they see her and they got to go against this woman an Olympic champion two-time world champion twice a bronze medalists in the Olympics and again a second one over 20 meters limited work [Applause] and that's clearly her second best throw of the competition she pushes one out again chalks the 20 meter line [Music] [Applause] managed to find a little something on that throw stay calm [Applause] so she's out over 20 meters for the second time 20 meters seven again for 2049 it's just two centimeters off the best throw in the world song jae-won fifth attempt at this point her three meets winning streak in the outdoor season is in Jeopardy but that's it could be her best throw out there raising up dust and shock just shy of 20 years walk up under the chin and hope you chalk it out there on one of those designated lines ideally 20 meters or even the one that says Championship record how was your day well right now I'm in metal position and I've I've thrown a personal best twice that's a good competition leave the ring to gong First Chinese athlete to win an Olympic field event not a glamorous event passionate Devotion to sport to draw people's attention to it it is her era and that era may have another chapter written gilded in gold as that was a massive throw it's through exactly in this divot that you left the last time loads up keeps that weight behind the ball and then forces it out into the sector 20 meters 49 right now is first place that's the mark to beat 20-39 for gong what a series improving from 1958 to 1984 then over 20 meters twice and now 20 39. Madison Lee Wishy verse 6 to 10. for the best 19 meters nine that's a nice throw for her she's been searching about there's a little grin as you see she walks by each of those The Butchers as they go by you see the little three Metals hanging there those are actually the metals that will be presented right after the competition and wait for that Mark 19 meters 50. a great final throw great final put for Wishy we've heard a sixth position [Music] great final throw for her love it when the pressure's on let's see Mitten can respond she did come up large there let's see if we get a white flag when you measure it is it good yeah [Applause] white flag now we'll make the measure there [Applause] we're checking she knows that's long came in at 2033 with her PB we'll look at it again part across the ring great explosion reaching out there maybe not 20 meters but is it enough to get by 19 meters 77 and take Schindler's spot on the podium right now both sides it is [Music] a 19 meter 77. Sixth and final attempt 31 year old fourth at the Olympics is there a medal here to be had in Eugene [Music] came in as the second ranked athlete in the event don't know that that will be enough to challenge 19 meters 77. and if that doesn't get by 1977 then the medals are set 19 meters 54 has popped up on the board as we look at her one more time [Music] so top five but top three is the podium and the podium is set [Applause] ER gong Ely [Applause] now they're what a long throw I mean that was [Applause] that was a gigantic throw but again she has got a case of the rights steps out as well three big throws three big fouls foreign all of them out of the right part of the sector but the ones that were in were fantastic 1977 1977 or 19 meters 53. so by virtue of her other two big throws she will take the bronze medal in third place ahead of Sarah mitchen you can see the joy there [Music] not sure I finished up with the metals that you see in the background there so they will be awarded to the the athletes immediately afterwards so they can be part of the celebration part of when they take a picture with the flag and then and then when they go to the media the mix Zone to meet the media they'll take the medals back to the metals are decided but will gong come from behind Ely she needed to go 20 49. judging by the reaction I don't think she feels like she's gotten there so many improvements 58 to 84 to 20.2 320.39 doesn't look like she could find the 10 centimeters she needed on the last one 1989 no the gold medal will go to the American Chase Ely [Music] still out there looks like she's ready to throw as we look at gone one more time [Applause] but gong what a career six times a medalist her seventh metal eighth World Championships here's Ely one last throw listen sometimes you throw a bomb sometimes you bomb I'm not sure your heart's in it that's right take a foul I've got the gold medal we're good with her very first throw in the competition Chase Ely 20 meters 49. look at the joy the emotion she's a world champion yeah the cross she goes family [Music] loved ones the former Oklahoma State Cowboy thrower all the work all the promise it's a woman who was really derailed by the pandemic kind of lost her form took her a while to manage to come back find her form and now she'll wear the gold medal presented immediately to her the red white blue the Stars and Stripes she remains undefeated what an outdoor season [Applause] eight outdoor meets Three diamond League victories the U.S championship the world championship and they saw a terrific performance here as we see the final results the top three Ely gong schilder Sarah Mitten so close Childers second and third marks better Don moth strong showing there in fifth gives up her civil matter silver medal position from two years ago New Zealand a personal best lot to be happy about there Americans eighth and 9th Maggie Ewan just bumped from the final three throws by teammate Jessica Daniel Thomas Dodd and then the sweets Fanny Roos Max Lena Johansson
