so the final of the women's javelin 12 have qualified for this final so yeah the world leader this year at 66.62 but the favorite must be barbara spatakova not yet in her world record form but uh never wise to back against her so this is the full line now burbeg for start with then gleedale of canada or selena latvia borman usa hussong of germany you of china monitor of germany village of south africa li lingue of china spotakov czech republic winger usa and style of germany again we start off with christina obergfold who's the defending champion and as such she gets a wild card entry into these championships enabling the germans to have four competitors 34 years of age she was spatakova are the oldest competitors in this field she's a 70 meter thrower 70 meters 20 fourth best of all time and has got back to 64 meters this year order will be pan-american games champion this year from canada liz gleedle [Applause] and then cynthia ozelina latvian record holder former latvian record holder i should say best of 64.38 brittany borman the second american to make these championships twice american collegiate champion twice the u.s champion she was at the university of oklahoma christine youngster from germany the 21 year old who won the european under 23 title this year [Applause] and then the first of the chinese competitors in the final huge role for fifth in the olympics in 2012 winner on the diamond league second in shanghai this year then catharina molitor sixth and eighth in the past two olympic games also fifth in the world championships four years ago consistent at top level cenet village four times the african champion twice the commonwealth champion world bronze in 2011 sixth in 2013 at 32 she's always a major contender 69 35 earth personal best which is the world leader this year and the second chinese competitor second in the asian games last year runs before that also a nation championship title best just over 65 meters and here's the world record holder barbara's photographer olympic champion first second second in previous editions of these world championships sunborn in may 2 2013 two years ago [Music] the north american record holder six times the u.s champion she was also second to gleal in this year's pan-american games and the fourth german competitor the former european champion linda style from germany fourth sixth and eighth in previous editions of these world championships so in her fourth final now this is the defending champion obegful with the first throw of the women's javelin as we look out from the main stand to the left of the arena the javelin throwers throwing into the center of the arena the high jumpers at the other end well it's just to the left or the right rather right of the sector lines so a no throw there for oberg following she did a very similar throw in the qualifying first time has a propensity to get over to the right hand side so she's followed by liz gliedl a canadian investor 6483 is and that pretty much hitting the 60 meter line actually there isn't a line out there it's just superimposed on the television screen the lines are drawn at 55 and 65 meters and also an indicator for the world record that's way beyond so gleedle opens just a little short of 60 meters 59.78 from latvia okay a little further beyond 60. set our personal best this season 64.75 this is a second world championships didn't qualify last time made the final this time foreign christine husong he was in marvellous form at the european under 23 championships a little bit of a dip after that but i'm sure this is just the occasion to come back into top form she did well in qualifying it goes high but it stalls and in fact this isn't a very good throw only just over 50 meters so fouls that red flag raised just over the line she was aware of that at the time though [Applause] now the crowds eyes will be on you just their eyes a lot of noise you know i can tell you the high jumps now up to 225 early stages of course blue first throw for her in the javelin huge role and they like it the best we've seen coming up towards 65. she look good in qualifying she's bringing that form into the final as well [Applause] so the 26 year old opens with a throw of 63.80 the best so far halfway through the first round this is katrina molitor that two over 60. 64. [Applause] well amongst her accomplishments uh 10 south african titles from her first back in 2003 two world student games titles four african championships twice the commonwealth champion and uh usually likes to produce a really top throw with her opener [Applause] well she didn't really hit that right and had a very low trajectory the result when it came down only around 60 meters [Applause] now the noise level will be raised again because we've got the second of the chinese competitors leeling way [Applause] to 70 tall shorter than many of the throwers she has thrown 65-11 personal best three years ago and just like her compatriot another fine throw the two best throws so far in this competition are from the chinese 64-10 into the lead goes lee lee from lou [Applause] fantastic for the chinese that they have representation in both field events but how will they fare after this throw this is the world record holder barbra sportaco not yet back in top form 65-66 this year fine all-round athlete well by her lights very disappointing oat no she doesn't like it no throw see it's stepping over just to make sure it's a foul no need to measure that more to come i'm sure two throws to go in this first round of the javelin first of all it's cara winger for the usa start for cara 58.55 seventh best to complete round one the best of 6732 came last year [Applause] [Music] twice the german champion best place in the world championships fourth last time from her three previous finals [Applause] another one that's short of 60 so well mike said nothing very special in the first round except for the locals of course the special feature is that we have china one china too so dealing way at 64-10 lu and 63-80 and then oscelino in third at 62-20 whenever a chinese competitor competes there is a huge huge role [Applause] yes so we start round two with a big full well this time she does get it within the sector lines and it's a little over 60. 6104 fourth best so far needle next to throw ah well minor improvement there another four centimeters for the canadian that's the athlete lying thirds into osalina ah this brittany moore moorman the next to throw uh a couple of throws very similar in distance oh in 10th place at 58-26 now christine husson well that's much better than their opener gets up to around 60. [Applause] now the intensity builds in the stadium because they can see who the next thrower is it's the athlete lying second it's lou [Applause] guihui [Applause] oh yeah bit of anti-climax for the crowd cheering goes to an o she doesn't want that measure still in second place monitor like fifth so far improvement from molotov to 61.37 and fourth well nine women have thrown the javelin over 65 meters this year but we haven't had any in this final yet i wonder if soonett will yeah we'll be able to redress that oh certainly better for her take her into the top three thank you billion into third 6309 the roaring begins again because it's the leader it's lee ling way [Applause] reveling in the applause of the crowd lapping behind her as she prepares to launch the spear for the second time not quite as far well barbara's potaka couldn't get it right to the first throw let's see how the world record holder gets on on a second well it's better but it's certainly not the sort of distance that she'd be used to just one throw left to make sure she can get into the top eight because this throw a 59-54 means that she's only ninth currently one last chance to come indeed the field with christina oberg fall about to start round three the defending champion best so far of 61.04 the lead held at 6410 by lee lingway the crowd absolutely delighted with the way the two chinese throwers are going their first two places in this competition obergfold returning to competition after a son marlon was born just over a year ago terrific record in major championships oh this looks good yes it's nearly 65. and the crowd raw at that although that will have moved the two chinese athletes down a place this for the lead an athlete whose world championship record reads second second fifth fourth and first in the last five additions she's now moved up into first place first round of the first throw of the third round 64-61 for the german javelin second round lu hui hui where we've seen obergful take the lead [Applause] 64-61 lou who was second 63-80 now back in third huge raw because the crowd can see this javelin's going far and it's getting close to 65 meters so has she taken the lead from obed fall it's very close both just short of 65. just that little pause while we wait the crowd wait to hear it's a fine throw by lou season's best 64-59 and that's gone it's better than that it's 64-72 and she's into the lead but she's immediately followed by catherine molitor from germany 61 37 so far launches that javelin and that also is going well and that also is close to 65. well we've seen three quotes in quick succession just short of 64 meters really is close in this competition no 65 meter throws but they're gathering behind as the competition builds in intensity with this throw by molitor who's thrown 6640 for a personal best 64-74 she takes the lead by two centimeters round four with those three women just under 65 meters and here's sunette valjern of south africa oh she's hit that one hard and it's over 65. that is the lead that's the first 65 meter throw that we've seen here so the chinese athletes relegated to third and fourth having taken that early lead and it's filled yearn now [Music] [Applause] [Music] mighty release there from the south african yay 65 plus let's see 65-79 for the lead and the surprising news is that barbara spatakova improved in the third round to 6008 that's only ninth she will not be advanced from that yep this is lou i think you know there's a huge noise when this throw lands noise building an intensity because they can see it's a terrific throw and it is indeed it's a throw which is way beyond the 60 meter line it's the throw of her lifetime he's got a personal best of 64.95 and she's smashed that and she's gone past seanette villain villain took the lead with 65-70 in the fourth round but you has gone past that and has taken the lead in round five 66 meters 13 for you will yearn in second at 65.79 now so china in the top spot and half a round to go now live here in the bird's nest but we've got to go back to the javelin momentarily indeed we have this the last throws of the competition this is the penultimate throw this is liu 66-13 in the lead oh it's another super throw it's no further but there's just molotov to go villain has finished she's in second with 65-79 lee is finished she's in fifth oberg full has finished season four just one thrower to go katrina molitor of germany who is the only one that can deny lee ling way of china a gold medal china of course already with gold in the women's 20k walk and can it be that this woman will bring them their second so this is the throw that matters this is molotov's last throw in the javelin 64-74 she's in third place out it goes how far is it going to go oh a fantastic throw is it enough is it enough 66-13 but what a performance by molotov what a response to seeing that big throw molotov perhaps one of the least favorite of the german throwers she's been there thereabouts for a long time and she's got it it's the gold medal goes at last and china are denied they have to settle for a silver medal it was a wonderful throw here by molitor and this is the gold medal performance well you can see the yellow line superimposed at u's distance and molotov smashed it she's produced the throw of a lifetime previous beer 6640 and in the final throw of a world championship she's just thrown 67 69 for the gold medal once again terrific action here in the bird's nest stadium well the chinese must have thought they were on the verge of another gold there and it was so so near but what a performance to come through and add over a meter to your best just when it matters consolation in some ways it's an asian record for you but the gold dashed at the last minute and she's in tears this is the champion catherine of germany great tradition of course in german throwing obed full was the defending champion she's thrown well here for fourth billion of south africa took the silver to add to her long list of major honours but it was a bit of an outsider with catherine molitor coming through to take that gold medal and in the end it has to be silver for you [Applause] yes the medal was dashed away from china that very very last throw and there were tears from lou who thought she'd got it i expect but it was molitor who came through catherine molitor of germany who came through with a very last throw to set a lifetime best of 67 meters 69 to take the gold medal you an asian record 6613 for silver and the bronze going to villaion of south africa at 65.79 it started slowly it built into a very fine competition
