next eval the track the 1500 meters Jenny bérenger now Simpson the only collegiate ever break four minutes and England has the meet record Sinclair Johnson the best time in the country and there is Jessica Hall she is the defending champion in fact she has four NCAA titles to her credit a junior from Australia and Oregon she hasn't lost a race since May of 2018 and in the last 12 months since her last championship last year in Eugene she told me the only thing that she's working on is patience Sinclair Johnson one of the three Oklahoma State Cowboys and this 12 woman final Johnson will the best time amongst collegians 409 50 and even though 1500 meters is not quite the longest distance we'll be seeing today in these conditions still not ideal in the preliminary race on Thursday two of these women Jessica Harris and Molly sugru had seasoned best and four women Jenny Silas Lottie black Dylan McClintock and Julia risk had life time bests so it shows you the level of competition at that where these women are racing right now Jessica Harris is in the lead but she's in the lead out in lane 2 a little odd you can't miss Jessica hold with the big o for Oregon on her singlet and right right [Applause] Whitley Orton the junior from BYU out in front to set that tone and now what they've got to do is you've got to work on pace the most important thing to do right here for these next three laps is to try to gradually cuts down you don't want to go bankrupt when you have this much heat out there you want to make sure you try to run even and then start getting faster and faster that was a 67 first lap so Oregon junior Jessica Hall that are in second place she's honored to be one of the people named on the Bowerman watch list [Music] it was extremely special to be named on the Bauman watch list and it's been exciting to stay on there as the season has gone this year and I think it's pretty very special just you like a spot on the watch list with them like previous winners such as Raven and Laura from Oregon and like past Docs that have risen and had amazing news so far yeah it's kind of fun it's very exciting to think that people believe in me to have this thing so students at those ladies I've had before me Jessica Harris from Notre Dame now stepping out into the front when I talked to her the other day she said the biggest thing she wanted to do was make sure that she sets up the last 250 meters of this race she said she wanted to take Kiki on honest pace out make sure that it wasn't too slow and then in that last 250 start to make her move speaking of making a move I believe that's Jenny Seles of Oklahoma State who is moving up amongst the leaders now she's in third position Harris continuing to lead and that seems to make Jessica hold just suit her just fine coverage of the NCAA Championships continues with the men's College World Series Saturday June 15th at 2 p.m. Eastern on ESPN for more information on the men's College World Series log on to ncaa.com the official online home for all 90 NCAA championships Jessica Hall in second in the in the yellow and Sinclair Johnson in third in the orange have absolutely blazing last lap speed Sinclair Johnson didn't make this final last year she has a new lease on life and she was really impressive in the regional meet she lowered her personal bests from 41157 to 400 950 with get this a sixty two point three last lap that is fast so it is Harris in the lead Jessica Hall now about to make the move with 300 meters to go and Sinclair Johnson covering that move Harris doesn't appear to have a response that's exactly what you have to do on this backstretch is when that move is made stay in as tight as contact as simple now for Sinclair Johnson just sit right on on Jessica holes shoulder around this curve and then if you have anything left make it on that Street Johnson's in the perfect position she can watch to see if there's any part of Jessica Hall's technique that starts to falter her shoulders start to raise up here she comes she's going wide with 100 meters to go does Jessica Hall have enough to hold her on it Sinclair Johnson now into the lead holding off the defending champion is going to be Sinclair Johnson about to home estate the cowboy will win the 1500 meters Jessica Hall finishing second and Jessica Harris holding on for third 98 that puts her second all-time in the 1500 that was a heck of a race by Sinclair chopped up there well you've really got a credit jessica harris for taking it out very honestly and jessica home continuing to push it as well as sinclair johnson what a smart tactical race Johnson ran waited her time confident enter a kick that takes a lot of courage and a lot of experience Jessica Hall made the move with about 300 meters to go and as you see Sinclair Johnson coming up in the orange jersey went with her it is imperative to cover any kind of a move made in that last 300 and all she did was sit she made the move at the right time you don't want to pass on that last curve save your energy and come off almost like a little slingshot and then just lift your knees for home st. Claire Johnson not making the final last year two national champion this year 60 to 68 last lap forcing Claire Johnson and the first part of that lap they were not going that fast in that curve so an outstanding performance by the cowboy and she is downstairs with Laura Overton and she's taking a second to catch her breath right now deservedly so Sinclair described for me that final lap in particular that closing kick in the final 100 meters you know how when I saved my kick for very last I know just holds a great competitor and I didn't want to make him move to our likes I know she could answer it so yeah how confident were you going in to knock off the defending champion at this distance my training said I could do it and I just trusted in my training and I mean I can't believe it congratulations on the championship thank you Sinclair Johnson with that winning time 405 98 becomes a number two collegian all-time only jenny behringer simpson is faster Jessica hull with her second place tie becomes the number for collegiate all-time this in 98 degree weather an outstanding performance by both young ladies Jessica Harris holds on for third place so one more year for Jessica Hall to come back and get revenge for losing here
