oh my just went to caravanning i've got it all wrong i've not prepared my battery's gone dead i've got no power and i've run out of gas so what are the things that we need to do if we're gonna win to caravan don't end up like me watch the video and find out what you should be doing [Music] so if you don't end up like me i've got a few little tips um of using the caravan through the winter basically and again there's no reason that you can't do that the weather's changing it's getting miserable it's getting darker so it is going to change what we need to be looking at when we're using the caravan now majority of the the caravans the insulation within the caravan's net is perfectly adequate there's no reason whatsoever that we can't use the caravan all year round but there is a few things that we're going to want to look at now first thing is going to be the gas bottles and if you're currently using the blue butane gas bottles i would suggest swapping those over and getting the propane the red ones and the reason is this isn't going to freeze up as quickly as your butane gas bottles are going to so if you do end up without electric and again even if you think well i'm going onto a site and i've got the electrics on i'm not too worried about the gas if you get a power cut and again through the winter power cuts can happen a little bit more often you're going to need some sort of backup so just make sure that you swatch onto that propane gas and that is then just going to allow you to run in colder temperatures and keep the caravan nice and toasty inside the next thing along is is your water system now the last thing that you want to be doing is ended up without any water and with a frozen water barrel outside so you can get an insulated jacket to insulate this and then actually insulate your water pipe as well so the water pump itself pop a little bit of insulation around there and that then should hopefully unless we get absolutely tremendous freezes that should stop your water system from freezing off inside if you've got the heating on etc it should keep all the pipe work okay in there the one thing that you might worry about is your cassette toilet because the actual cassette is more on the outside and it's in it's a sealed little box so the actual cassette can sometimes freeze up and you flush water so just bear that in mind and possibly have a little jug just in case with a little bit of water just in case you need to swirl that through now one way that you can stop that from happening is actually leave the flap on the cassette toilet open and that will just let a little bit of heat through that and potentially stop it from freezing up but it's a little bit on the on the side really of where it could potentially still do that now one thing that does get overlooked is your chemicals if you leave the toilet chemicals outside in the front locker again these have got a potential for freezing up and you're going to end up without any chemicals to be able to use in the toilet so what i would potentially do is pop these into a little bag and actually keep them inside the caravan somewhere reason to put them into a bag is if if they were to fall over or something these do leave real stains inside the wood working on floors etc so you don't want this leaking onto the inside of the caravan at all so just make sure that they're in a bag and just inside the caravan and that will be fine now one of the big things that you're going to want to need as well and again you'll probably need a good torch most of the year anyway for when it goes dark etcetera and you're on site but definitely through the winter the knights are drawing in so a good torch and is going to allow you to be able to see things again if you get a power cut or something you've got to go try and trip the electrics back in or anything like that a real good torch so that is a real good one that you're going to need going back onto the the water freezing again the waste water from the caravan has got a potential to freeze up as well so if it's going get really really really cold it might just be worth getting some lagging and then getting all of the waste water pipes because again it's gonna stop the flow of water coming out of the caravan if you don't wanna go through that hassle of doing all that there is a way of just literally running some hot water through the the system and again that should defrost it if it does freeze up in there [Music] now inside the caravan obviously when it's getting a bit colder outside the caravan you've got more heat inside the caravan there is more of a possibility of having condensation inside of the actual caravan even on the windows on handles etc so it might just be worth having a few moisture traps throughout the caravan if you do get any sort of runs of condensation just have a little cloth ready and every morning just pop around and just make sure on shelves around the window rubbers etc and just make sure that you're getting up any condensation that might appear over the winter obviously there is a good chance especially if you're using the heating on the gas etc it is going to make that more of a possibility cold fittings like your tap etc again and this will attract the condensation to be fair so again just making sure that you you're going around the tap etc and making sure that any drips of condensation are all mopped up and again it's just going to look after the caravan for you and make sure that no water seeps into anywhere that it shouldn't do [Music] again through the weather with the colder weather your leisure battery is going to take quite a bit of a hammer in so if you're plugged into electric it will keep it topped up but if you're going to go to a site and you've not got 230 electric make sure that probably you've got a second battery again fully charged up because again the cold weather is going to just reduce the actual usage time of your leisure battery so it is wise to have a second battery if you're going off-grid for a fair while and again if you've got solar panels they're not going to be as effective as your normal times of year one other thing is that again chances of rain etc making the the campsites a little bit more buggy is a real good possibility you can actually buy little mats um that basically are gonna sort of just give you a little bit of extra grip so that you can put those down and actually if you start feeling that you're sinking in with a caravan put the little mats down and then drive over those and that is just gonna stop the caravan from sinking in or even the car possibly [Music] another thing because we're going to potentially be using more gas on the heating etc and fridge on the gas what have you carbon and monoxide testing and so you're going to want to make sure that you've got a carbon monoxide tester inside the caravan or a detector and so if there is any problems with carbon monoxide you are going to be safe throughout using with all the gas etc that brings us then onto fridge vents [Music] so another thing is the fridge vents so in the winter you can get your winter covers that will go onto here and that will just allow the fridge to work a little bit more efficiently when it goes really cold [Music] hopefully we'll give you some good tips there of using the caravan all the way through there's no reason whatsoever that you can't use the caravan all year round come sunshine snow there's no reason not to be able to use it so hopefully with our tips it'll make life a little bit easier if there's anything that we've forgotten there probably is let us know in the comments again it's nice just to get everybody's input if you've been caravan for years and we've missed the trip let us know in the comments thanks i'm mark at the caravan play
