back in Florida this boat dropped my miles per gallon down to 19 I'm 30 lots of packages abou stuff and there's a vote she's still floating smelled pretty bad I forgot to turn on my solar fan but now this is an exciting package it is my win vane here are the pieces I went with another win pilot this is the bigger version though the last one I had to do me probably 3,000 miles and it worked great different this one's a little bit bigger and the thing I really wanted it for was the coarse adjustment uses the worm gear you can see that it's not gonna rotate the other one you just used like a continuous loop of rope to get hold it in place and it doesn't work very well this is a much finer adjustment so a new one of these will run you about four thousand dollars I picked this guy up on eBay used for I think it was 850 shipped um it looks like it's in pretty good shape it's got one thing that's missing is the so the real it would be further out of the water I'm thinking actually the wind kind of like there's a chance it the self-steering is is much more important to me than being able to get out of my boat easily so the first thing my transom has a positive rig so I need to angle it so it's kicked out more okay so there's the new angle if it needs to go further I can take out this crossbar and go looks like another few degrees I don't think this is essential but it could be nice to have a dry fit and the swim ladder will definitely need to be coming off although I'm thinking the platform is gonna be able to stay on I think I'm gonna borrow this little platform nothing that might make it easier [Music] one of the things I like about the design of this wind vane it makes it easy to install cuz you can remove the vein all the heavy stuff from the mountain here with just one bolt I go down into this locker to see through the transom here this is of course my favorite spot on the boat to be oh yeah looks alright little work alright gonna make sure my marks are centered is there to fabricate this push rod I need to put a 90 degree Bend right here so I'm just gonna use these vise grips and bend it alright not too bad this is metric and I'm using quarter 20 rod come up here and I'm just gonna stick a couple of nuts on the top and that should finish it up swings it moves the push rod it's like everything clears and there's a push rod at the top booster the pendulum rudder so I was evil to keep the swim platform but the ladder I could have moved because it wouldn't unfold where with the wind vane so I think I'm gonna just mount it right here on the side until I figure out a better thing to do with it and there is my newly repositioned boarding ladder the wind vane didn't come with the normal chain and the little hook thing so I'm gonna instead of buying one of those I just went down and got a couple cam cleats so I'll have one on each side and that way I can adjust the you know whether home I just releasing one tighten the other we will give that a try I've seen it done before another nice thing about doing it this way is even if the wind vane isn't connected I can lash the chiller all the way off to one side for like keeping two or something or anywhere in between it's up to this the only downside is it takes two lines to unhook when you want to just an 8 gauge it I also might want to add those those little keeper things I don't have to keep picking up these rope I figured I'd try it with that first because they're like $8 a piece I got my control line set up I might have to apply a lot to make this larger diameter or a less stretchy line around here to these and then to my double complete set up and then for the coarse adjustment lines I made them really long and they go they reach all the way to the into the cockpit I mean into the cabin so I can adjust the course from all the way back here that'll be that'll be awesome finishing touch for this thing looks like flip down you know that I have the proper size socket wrench irie bled the fuel line which one was it it was this guy here he's kind of hard to reach so I'm gonna try to start like this if not I will try to bleed the injectors again yeah I'm so happy I figured that out looks like I'll have to go for a sail tomorrow hearing all about this coronavirus it's kind of bumming me out so I think the right thing to do would be to go for a sail it's no coronavirus out on the ocean this nasty weed stuff alright there's the first test of the new win vain seems to be doing a good job holding us on course we're about two hours from the Pelican Bay Anchorage flue is enough room for us and very shallow water well I totally just ran aground coming into this Anchorage and we're stuck here that's all right though at least I'm not going anywhere and that was kind of a goal I guess I'll just wait till high tide tonight and then move out a little bit it's gonna happen sooner or later at least this nice soft sand it feels like all right sort of time to strategize it looks like high tides in two hours in the meantime I think I'm going to take a shower use some of the water and my water tanks as much as I can maybe lighten a little bit and then I need to figure out which direction probably just go straight back would be the best way to go maybe put an anchor out see if I can pull myself in that direction pivoting around I escaped I ended up walking an anchor out into deeper water and then I walked the anchor out and then I pulled the boat with the anchor and and I motored back out and I think I meant like six foot five and a half foot water so what happens let's hide I go aground again but I know how to get out now hey thanks for watching the video I'll be sure to post a follow up pretty soon and and then I guess after that I hope you like boat project videos because there's gonna be a whole bunch more of those coming towards the end of April I'm thinking I'll sail up the East Coast it's looking like it might be a little bit tricky to get into the Caribbean with these travel restrictions going on right now but there's still a lots of bigger sailing video adventures coming up be sure to subscribe if you don't want to miss those and also if you want to follow me on Instagram I'm posting a little bit more frequently in real time on that forum so till next time
