hey who hey Dad what's up hey buddy can we take a look at your boat yeah like come on this is a 1971 Albert 30 so a little over 50 years old it's got a draft of four and a half feet shooting knives you can get in almost every place and uh small boat they build them pretty narrow but it's a very strong build boat with a full kill what would you say the average sailing speed of this boat is average between four and a half and five knots how many miles have you sailed this boat about four thousand what did you spend when you first bought this boat I bought this boat for 17 and a half thousand dollar looking back at that that was crazy but I didn't have a sailing Mentor like you did which I should have had I fell in love with a boat uh and that is one thing you shouldn't do I that was my budget I learned a lot from it and um yeah now I can give better advice to other people back cool so this is hoop's boat he's been sailing around quite a bit all right so I'm in the cockpit right now it's kind of an interesting layout I think it was designed to have a tiller here but obviously we've got a Helm uh I like the helm I like this a nice big thick grip I feel like the grip on mine is a little bit thin um so it's kind of cool uh you can't stand up in here at least I can't but you do have your main sheet nice and handy I notice back here he's got good storage good dry storage and you need to have this on a boat so that's pretty cool looking up he's got a nice nice Arch going on here and 900 watts of solar that's quite a bit for about this size that's pretty neat he also carries an extra outboard which is pretty cool this is outboard work yeah oh wow that's really cool he's got a hydro van or a wind vane uh wind vane wind vane very nice that's cool so you have that as your your go-to but he's also got a autopilot down here obviously this is a smaller boost a little bit different and judging by some of the footage you get a bit wetter when you're sailing this boat versus you know some other boats a little bit higher up a little bit better protected but he's got everything he needs here you know I mean you've got your propane tank back here hooked up ready to go secure it in here extra gasoline for the outboard um and again I think that that much solder is really really nice the height of where all that solar is feels a little high to me I guess you got to clear that back there but that the only thing I don't like about that is it feels like it's so high you can catch a lot of extra wind and it can make upwind sailing a little bit more difficult such as life everything's not perfect he's got some good extra storage here oh wow yeah that that's a lot more storage than I expected he's gonna have the same underneath where he's sitting from when filming uh right there so that's pretty cool so yeah I mean it's a sale but he's got everything he needs looks like all his controls can come back so he doesn't need to leave the cockpit some of the uh heising glass is a tad old so you can't quite see through it uh there's actually some spray stuff he could get and that would clean this up really really quickly this one's not so important because you can just poke your head out take a look at the sails but up front it does look like it's a little bit more difficult to see out the front and vision is pretty important um what other downside of this is like I said you will take on quite a bit of spray when you're sailing this is a smaller boat and you know when you get ready for those sort of passages you just get the foul weather gear on and you go I do want to go down and Below but first let's check out the bow come on walk with me I was actually really surprised for this size boat it's actually like a pretty usable amount of four deck space here and then Hoops got this uh the hammock up here and that's really all you need you're enough to enjoy it yeah so you know he's got a manual win list just like me mostly all hand power chip rolls up nice he actually looks like a nice much newer than mine that jib there so that's pretty cool it's got a nice bow sprit here that holds on to two anchors if he wants to that's some heavy duty stuff so that's really good to see that this anchor chain is in really good shape and I think a little thicker than mine my anchor Chains new but it wasn't a very high quality one so I like that a lot it's nice but you know what bottom line is it's a working boat this is a working Sailing Boat and that's uh pretty cool yeah you know what as long as you have enough space to come up here and you know feel the waves and do a little bit of bow surfing I think that's really all you need for a boat I like that he's got this uh oh that's cool he's actually got little Rudders to it or little Keels he uses an inflatable kayak to get around um and as his emergency life raft you know so you make do what you got and you get out there and you get going and that's the way to do it on this boat let's go back in and have a look down below foreign so I stand at just barely six foot and that is the magic number here hoop is probably I'm gonna guess like six two six three and that's just enough to where he can I guess if I stand fully straight I'm almost touching if I try to go on my tippy toes it's an immediate little head butt but yeah so we're down here in the main Salon uh he's got two couches here most people would be able to sleep on this if they had to but they're pretty comfy pretty cozy this one looks a little bit more a little bit more bouncy a little bit more comfortable it's got a little table that can come out if it was me personally because I know how much time hoop spends uh editing I was suggesting to make just like a half of this that would come out so in other words when you're sitting here it would come out over your lap and then you could actually have a good laptop station and set it to whatever height you want to did you just knock your head I did it was it obvious on camera oh man I try to play it all cool yeah now we have brain damage anyway um yeah cool he's got a stove here a little four burner that's cool I've actually only got a two burner um his does not gimbal so that means that it doesn't have any way to hold the pots and pans on so that can make it a little bit more difficult when you're trying to cook uh if there's any sort of Rolly sees it all but if it works it works then obviously he's getting use out of it so it's good to go also three of the four don't work huh so I had more burners than he does as it turns out um he doesn't have an oven or Broiler I don't use my oven or Broiler a lot it is nice to have though should be told you know what you only need one burner you just plenty of meals you can do in just one pot no I mean I do most of my meals and just just one pot and it's just like a little um like a spoon holder thing uh so I could I could put a rack in so when I'm sailing I can put a pan in the rack so it's still steady oh that's cool that's super cool he's got a freshwater salt water tap here yep that gets that done um It's actually kind of cool if you look right here you can see this must be the water line as the boat's going back and forth and yeah I think that's kind of cool it's kind of cool to see it it's a little bit of a downside though because ideally you want food particles to be able to drop down but I mean it works it obviously works I'm kind of mesmerized watching it It's a Kind of a Funny thing he's got his solar charge controller down here it's uh 100 by 30 by victron I have the 100 by 50s this is a little underrated for this boat but with the amount of solar he has he has more it doesn't really matter he's good to go um other electrical panels other instruments this navigation which switches around got some fans in here but the airflow is plenty from we've got two hatches here that scoop air down that feels really nice I mean he's got you know everything else this really will mirror all the same things on my boat you're gonna have food storage back in here probably under here as well um you have some stuff in here this probably got all the food so can I open one of these that's cool it's a boat you know it's a boat it's definitely a boat kind of just it's a boat um I think this used to be the fridges but these no longer work so he uses this for can storage and let's take a look at the engine here and there we go what kind of an engine is this it's a 20 horsepower what's the big Universal the Western beak Universal cool and uh you said how many horsepower 20 20 horsepower very nice and I can tell you girlfriends don't like that the engine is in the kitchen too much oil everywhere uh a wrong kind of oil I guess yeah I do I do see that there I do see that but now it's cool I mean it looks like you're keeping good care of it and keeping on top of it I know you said you were epoxying a fuel injector this morning um that all sounds like good sailor stuff to me that's cool and so have you ever gotten back into there yes sadly yes oh yeah there's a snuffing box something you need to climb over it to redo the stuffing it's uh not the most fun part of boat life no this is like the one downside the one upside I will say of a big boat is usually not always but usually it's a little bit easier to get into these tough to reach places not always all right so here he's got the fridge which he just pulls out whenever he wants something this is a Dometic funny enough uh my fridge is having problems and I talked to a guy who is a professional Marine refrigerant repairman and he told me get a Dometic he said yes I make money repairing these things and I do not make money if you get a Dometic but he said they are better um I thought that was interesting I don't have the space to figure that out yet thankfully I'm able to keep mine alive but it's a ton of space ton of storage and if you need to too he could something went wrong on his boat he could just take this put it on mine I could plug it in I think these external ones are really cool and it'd be cool to see boats in the future just put them like a place for them stock maybe a little drawer that kind of pulls them out or something put that back in um this is the next thing on the boat is the bathroom I would I would have to call this a bit of a drawback um I'm sorry that's the truth I agree um well the reason I would call this a drawback well you know there's an upside which is the breeze is phenomenal you just have this brief just wafting over you so you always gonna have fresh air I think that's great this is the exact same toilet I have on my my boat the Jabs go ahead but yes you have to be very comfortable with who you have on board or I guess you could sort of do this yeah it is uh and then look at them through these little eye holes here got two eye holes my eyes aren't that far apart there's a rope here you can oh around oh we're looking why doesn't it even go all the way over why are you tired whatever anyway um but you know what this is Tiny boat life though this is what you got to do and a 30-foot boat is uh I mean honestly bad mad props I hope for for being able to make all this work you know what I mean I originally when I was gonna get a boat I was deciding between my forever boat which is basically what I'm on uh or going with a 30-foot boat and doing maybe just like Southern California I think that plane would have been still good I don't think that would have been a bad plan but hoop has spent real time and he's really made this one work still got some more storage back here last part of the boat let's get into that is the bed the bed's actually pretty comfy I gotta say huh nope but I I kind of already want to have my foot off the bed a little bit here and who obviously does the same but the breeze feels pretty good you could also you know this is where your feet are supposed to go but he sleeps this way and I do that sometimes too in my V birth um one thing I did notice is it's a tad close to your head when you sleep here but that's just part of life and uh I think you know as entertainment when you have a new girl on the boat and she wakes up and clocks her head in the morning and you get to start your day with a good laugh so I think that's a pretty cool way to do it other than that you've got plenty of storage through here and yeah it's a Sailing Boat that works you know that's what it is at the end of the day but uh yeah you do see he's got quite a bit of storage under here just to hold on to everything and is that a water bladder or is that a wine there's a wine okay yeah so he's got the essentials on here um I always do like seeing two of what other Sailors carry on boards we have 100 uh some apple juice we got some other things there uh but this is oh it's not looking um it's just storage okay well you need that though you you really need storage and you'll find a lot of other boats have no storage on them and people hate that they end up finding out this is pretty cool and you know what if you were sailing with say two people you could easily have one person you're sleeping down here nice and dry and comfortable uh you just have to love each other a little more or a lot more yeah no I I mean obviously you know this is a small boat but you know this means less marina fees and you know what too if you really wanted to you could easily trailer this boat I think that's one uh one advantage to think of when I started out I had a very limited budget and I really didn't know if I could make boat life work I was afraid I couldn't keep able to afford this lifestyle in general so I bought a small boat even though I spent way too much on the boat and I could have known more about boats anyway I bought a boat and it's just you know I made it work and that uh for everybody out there who wants to do something similar and is on a really small budget these are pretty solid bows and if you don't know a lot about sailing or being a captain which I didn't like if you hit something it's a full kill there's nothing gonna happen you hit a rocky hit bottom like you have a scratch not like with some of the newer Keels where the whole halder forms if you hit something so there are definitely advantages I think one other thing too that's important to know is just that if you want to do this lifestyle and you're comfortable being on a boat like this like he is he can go to any boat and he will be super happy right if you start out on a catamaran you're ruined you're absolutely ruined you will not be able to go back down to it you will not be able to be happy with it and I think being able to be happy with less is true happiness being able to like only be able to go out if you have a huge boat it's not really happiness the other thing too I do recommend to people especially if you're single you're doing it by yourself you haven't been in like some long relationship don't get a boat that you need people to help you with get a boat you can sail yourself my boat is actually at the smaller end of the range for my forever bow I was looking between 36 and 44 feet or no 46 feet I think there 36 and 46 because that 46 is the limit of what I could solo sale 30 foot boat easily solo sail it you come up to a dock I mean you could take a an ore you know and like kind of make some Headway there if you need to stop the boat quick you can do that so there's a ton of advantages I think starting out for anybody if you're looking to get into this lifestyle start out on a boat like this you'll be much much happier learn these hard lessons then go on and sail the boat or sell the boat or sail into the ground I think that's a cool way to go out too and uh you know and then maybe upgrade to the boat that you're looking for to be a little bit happier on um or decide if the lifestyle is not for you because for sure if you can make it on here you can make it anywhere that's going to be like my little little catchphrase if you can make it here you can make it anywhere it's very original I would still say like three feet bigger does make the emotional space a lot different so yeah even my but if I had one more foot of boat on mine like I just I imagine like one more foot of Salon space one more foot in the galley one more foot in the cockpit like I don't even know I've had to pick one foot in any section like be tough to tell I think you have to realize that you live full time on a boat if you have a boat in Marina you take it out for weekends it doesn't matter how big the boat is and make it a 22 foot if you're gonna be at a marina yeah it's nothing but if you're if you're living on it yeah and to be fair too people have done more sailing than either of us combined on boats smaller than this right so you really don't need that much but this is one last look at this boat I think it's pretty great so something important to note is that this is how hoop makes his money he is a YouTuber I'll link his channel in the description below um but I think it's cool to see how people make it works I've got my little editing station and he's got this little setup here looks pretty comfortable all this camera Electronics gear nearby something I've noticed when I'm in other anchorages that are a bit rolly like when I was in my iguana in the Bahamas uh it was a really really Anchorage but we went over to a friend of mine's boat who had a massive like 45 foot or like a 50-foot Lagoon catamaran couldn't really feel the ocean on that thing likewise here we've got a little bit of chop in here and I can feel it on this 30-foot boat versus and maybe it's picked up a bit we'll see when we get back to my boat but I don't generally feel much of the swell in here in the lagoon so there is a bit of a difference for comfortability on anchor so from when you first got your boat what would you do different now with the knowledge that you've built up I wish I had a sailing Mentor at the time uh which I didn't and I one of the things I fell in love with my boat I'm like I don't know I just love you know you make it look better in your mind than it really is and was so to me as ready to go and I was more ready to go to the bottom of the ocean than actually going anywhere what's the next upgrade you want to make to this boat I love to have starlink because that will definitely like I have a Caribbean contract and it works pretty well with here in March in in Martin is really terrible but it's so expensive you know it's 400 bucks to buy it and then you know 90 here a month and then you still need a cell phone contract for when I go off the boat so still debating but that's definitely something I really would like to have and you have so many tools like I'm jealous on your tools like when I want to learn the windsurf as athlete I want to go in that direction well we're going to be teaching him I'll be teaching him kiteboarding soon so we'll get him on that way it's great too you know then you have one more emergency propulsion for your boat that's why that's how I write it off in my mind like whenever I'm doing it does that work oh 100 oh for this thing I would throw this boat I could probably get this boat like five knots of my 12 meter I'm dead serious yeah that's great all right what would you want your next boat to be so you know it all depends on money if I really have money I would love to have a catamaran but then depends how much money you have because the production catamarans many of them they just they seal a little less they have a lot of space but it's still a little less but then you know if you want to have like a 45 foot HH or utamere expensive so if I look it'd be more realistically what do you think your next book I think it's like a 40 to 44 foot uh motorhome and then preferably like like about 20 years old like this is 50 years old and you get a lot of problems that you get with the boat of 50 years old and that you get when you buy a boat where the previous owner didn't do a lot of maintenance on that so that also depends yeah 40 to 44 yeah longer water line faster a little more space that'd be nice what's your favorite quality about this boat what there are definitely advantages to have a small boat one of the reasons I bought a small boat was I was scared to start on a bigger boat bigger sales and one of the advantages actually is that if you don't have a lot of money people never come to your boat you're always invited on other people's bows if you don't have a lot of money that I mean I'm being serious it actually saves a lot of money this is my first time on his bow and I think I feed you every time you come over to my book so so to change a Ching every time when you got a small boat I like that yeah they're definitely advantages to that what would you say is your least favorite quality about this boat ah it's like when you're with another person on a boat and you feel it too maybe you're you're very your emotional space you're always on top of each other it doesn't matter if one person is inside the other person is outside and it's very like I I'm traveling for a long time I'm quite used to that but for new people in the boat it can be quite challenging and also in relationships and I noticed that and like we talked about that I think one percent of the women can live on my boat three percent on your boat and that's a big difference 10 on a catamaran right it takes no skill to live on Academy and it really it's basically just a floating house but anyway we got out here we got out here young and I think that's important to know that you see these catamarans and it's most other boats it's older people but especially the catamarans uh but anyway enough about that uh what about sailing where do you want to sail this boat to next where's your next adventure gonna take you on board uh nimonata I would love to see every island in the Caribbean I haven't seen Puerto Rico yet so I'll do that next hurricane season so I want to see Puerto Rico I want to go down to see more of Dominica Grenada and uh Martinique and then eventually I want to go towards Colombia Panama see some Bloss islands and then yeah I don't know oh nice what would you say is the closest you've ever come to sinking this boat uh when I came from Puerto Rico here which is still like in a wrong wind direction uh my boat was taking water on like over there on the couch two buckets of water every one to two hours and what I forgot to tell is that my engine died under the coast of Puerto Rico I was already away from Puerto Rico so I was sailing towards Grenada offshore and my boat was taking water on I didn't know where it came from and I was just hoping it didn't get more eventually in Grenada a bunch of dinghies towed me in and helped me anchoring and it was all fine but that was scary that's really cool man what would your advice be for anybody else who wants to get into this lifestyle and do what you're doing because you've definitely gotten to do a lot of things on this boat you've had life adventures that most people never get to have so what would you advise those people that want to do what you're doing yeah well first of all it depends of course on the budget that you have like looking back at it I think I could have bought like at least a much better maintained boat for the money that I spent and that's where the sailing Manta comes in the other advice is that she just freaking easy place to go to start from which I didn't like for an example the Bahamas and learn it over there get a boat friends who helps you and in a certain moments you know you just have to just have to go you just have to go no boat is ever ready to leave the dock with no projects to go there's always a project yeah it's under ignore them it's easy cool hope you guys enjoyed this boat tour of limonata and a little bit of an insight into its Captain oop who has been doing some pretty cool sailing adventures on board cheers it's interesting looking at Hoops vote compared to mine there's a lot of similarities and a lot of differences look at look at hold on look at me look at him everybody can stand up in his bow besides me
