Windows Server 2019 Training 15 - How to Install and Configure WSUS Server on Windows Server 2019

hi friends welcome to my channel and this is Windows Server 2019 training tutorial and this is number 15 video in this series and today in this video I am going to show you how to install and configure w su server on Windows Server 2019 so W so server is a basically a server where you can configure the services which is going to download all the updates patches and windows patches from Microsoft and it's going to store in your W server and all the clients which is available in your local network they are going directly to get the update from W server so basically they are not going to reach to Microsoft for getting those update and applying it so they are on all the all the computers servers everything is going to communicate to your W server and W so server is going to give them recommended updates whatever you select and whatever you allow to deploy it to them so also you can control the reboot suppression you can set dual the install time you can schedule when when the client is going to check for updates everything you can control related to patching environment in your arm in your organization by using the double source so you may have a multiple W server for like different different branch offices so you can you can basically define all like you have a to W server and one W server you want to sing from Microsoft and another W server you want to sync for your parent W server so you can configure it that way also so there was a big topic this is a very big topic WSO's how you can use and what is the best practice and what all you can do with the W server so I mean sort I'm going to take the this tutorial for installing and configuring the W series and creating some groups for patching so we'll let's get in so this is my demo environment which I am going to use so I am making it very same well we have a to servers here the first server is our Active Directory server which is wind okay in nineteen DC 0 1 and this is going to be my act redacted DNS and DHCP role on this machine if I go here you can see a to decorate DHCP and DNS role on this machine and this is going to be like my DC to k-19 DC 0 1 my domain name it was all dot loca and the IP address of my domain controller and the second machine which I have I'm going to promote this machine as a domain controller which is green here when took promote as it are W so server which is when to k-19 W source so what I'm going to do I'm going on my this machine so this machine is a currently bare machine I have just installed this machine and I have not configured anything on this machine so I'm going to configure this machine first and join this machine in domain so I'm going to rename configure IP address and Zhengzhou and this machine in domain so I'm going to configure first thing I P address on this machine manual IP address so I'm going to configure 192 168 0 204 and then this gateway for this machine and then I'm going to put my DNS which is my domain controller IP address 201 join this machine in domain and this is good and now you'll see the IP address is configured and now I'm going to join this machine in domain so when to k-19 the blue sauce I'm going to put my domain name which is Victor m4 so dot local I'm going to put my credential to join this machine in domain so welcome to the victim for soul dot local domain so now we are good to go ahead and restart this server so I'm going here and net would have to use the same computer I'm going to put this computer server in the correct place so I'm going to move this server and my correct place which is computer server so I'm going to put under India server so I have three servers here so this machine is ready now and I'm going to a logged in as a domain administrator on this machine so victim for sole administrator and password for this account and now we are good to go ahead and install this WDS roll RW stroll on this machine because we have I joined this machine in domain so we are good I'm going to put something here so many minds decide this and then before proceeding for installation let's verify what the disk we have so I have added one disk here but that's not a created volume yet so I'm going to create a volume so I'm going to change the DVD drive to set drive and then I'm going to insert this drive as and create one volume here call it W sauce and finish and now we have our WS dedicated drive for W so straight story windows update which is going to sing from Microsoft so now I'm ready and click on manage add a new add and remove features so add roles and features click Next and role base installation because WDS WCS is going to be a role based installation so click Next and here we have a server name which on which via country logged in so will took a 19w sauce click Next and now at the bottom we have a here double uses Windows Update service services so when I you take this you will see it's going to allow some features also which is double-o you can say which is going to be I as an others roles so click Next and you will see here it's going to install is also so you can see that is is also selected by default when you it's required a feature for double uses so click Next and you can see the is role whatever thing is going to be installed so by default it's all the required features has been selected for W so W source which is required for is also so click Next and now it's saying something about the SS s what is w says and who can manage and what it can do so click Next and then we have a options here w w ID connectivity which is installed the database by w source and 2 w ID which is windows database and this is the w server which is going to communicate to the server synchronization and web services everything so let's leave the default we don't require SQL if you we are if you are using a Windows or SQL base in database for SS us then you need to install the ww6 connectivity for SQL Server connectivity also since we are using windows database so we are good to go and click Next and where you want to store the wsus files so I'm going to store in my D Drive called folder W so I'm going to put it here and click Next and now everything is going whatever thing is where we have just selected through this network this visit it's going to give us and click on install and now it's going to install all the required features for W source like it's going to install a remote management tools it's going to install our dotnet framework W web servers it's going to install windows internal database windows processing activation surveys and then finally it's going to install Windows Server Update Services so this installation is going to take some time because it's installing W source is all the roles are together so it's going to might be it's going to take one or two minutes to get the installation done so we have to wait for it so it's almost done and for this also we need to create some group policy which is going to apply these settings to the WS detection through the client computer so we have to have configure one group policy so I'm going on my ad server I'm going to create a W so screw policy so I'm going on to group policy management from here I'm going to create one policy and group policy objects so new or call it like W sauce and you can define all the settings here so I'm going to right click and edit and from here this is a computer based policy for Windows patching so computer configuration policies and Windows settings or administrative templates and then Windows component and then we have to go to Windows updates you can see here and then you will see all the all the settings which is habló so 2019 server having some extra group policy of level for Windows updates so we'll see it so this is you can see the installation is can succeeded and configuration require so I'm going to launch the in a post installation tasks and please wait while your server is configured so you can see the configuration is started and it's going to take some time here and see if you want to monitor it you can see from here it's running supposed deployment tasks is going to take some time it's going to create some folder structure and back-end services so we'll leave it and here you can see what we are going to do so the set automatic detection the main thing you can go through all the settings which you require so basically we are looking for set and Trinette Microsoft Update service location so if you go here you can see what is there what you need to set so I'm going to set here my server which is HTTP HTTP colon window k-19 wsus and then with time for soul dot local and then we need to define the port number so the double uses port number is eight five three zero so we have to define that I'm going to set for here also set internet exists a static server set alternative download if you have anything you can define it otherwise you can ignore it so I'm going to set it and then automatic update frequency I am going to set any one our everyone is going to check for updates customer client computers are going to check for update and do not update so there were lots of settings so we'll go for one by one turn off auto state update during this auto restart you can define what time these are the new settings which is available so you can refine like 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. no restart so the machine is not going to auto restart between this active ours which you have set and specify active hours range for at a start you can say active hours range also you can define if you wish to so I'm not going to do it L our baited on download automatically so you can set over meet at a connection so always allow restart schedule if you this restart the schedule how much time it's going to notify so these all the say take specify deadline before auto restart so you can say what you can configure configure or told to restart auto restart required notification for updates so you can see all these things so these are the some settings which you can refer and configure automatic update is the one of the most important thing most important thing which you have to take care so what it's going to do notify for download on or to install or to download and notify install and auto download and shut you'll install so what you can do auto download and install it and install during maintenance redo and when you want to install every day at 2:00 a.m. so it's going to install every day 2 a.m. and you can set the date also first week of Mon second week so everything in which you can set it and install update for other Microsoft product also so Microsoft extended this are configure automatic updates to a next level so you can set as per your requirement also you have like remove Windows access for patching specify not administrative users to receive a bit so you can define all the settings which like you can define as per your requirement whatever requirement in use organization so we have created it and modify the setting and now you can see that setting has been applied and now you can go and link this GPU which we have created to respective who use where you have created we want to apply so I want to apply here on SS us so you can see now policies apply to this folder where we have all these three servers are added so this is good and now you can see the come free configuration is completed post installation so I can go and close this and now we can go to tools and launch Windows Server Update Services and this is something you need to make sure do you have a users credential for poxy needed so can this server connect to upstreams server such as Microsoft here's this machine having at a net connection firewall is allowed so we are good next and this is like if you want to join a Microsoft Update Improvement Program you can join it so I am doing just for demo so from where you want to synchronize if you have any W server in your organization from there you want to sync it you can set it otherwise you can set o update from sync from Microsoft and if you are using any proxy server for in synchronization you can use it let's click Next and then you are good to click start connecting so once the connection is established its going to give you the option you can see the network utilization is going to be up and downs few times so it's going to take some time five to ten minutes mostly to give you the all the things type of updates available product that can be updated available available language all these details it's going to sing from Microsoft and once this is God saying you are good to go and select the language product classification and all these schedules so I am going to pause the recording years once the connection is established and we are good to go to the next step I am going to resume the video once again supposing the recording for now now you can see it has been synced and we have got the next button highlighted so click on next now which language do you want to sync so all the languages are available here so I am I'm going to sync English so only so this is by default selected so click Next and then you have to select the product which you want to get the update for for so I'm going to select inside the windows is going to be select automatically so I'm going to select only operating system which I need so I'm going to select windows 2019 because in this infrastructure I have also were running on Windows 19 so click Next and then classification you can select like upgrade service pack everything so I'm going to leave with default click Next and when you want to synchronize manual or automatic so I'm going to select manual every day at 1 a.m. so click Next and I'm going to initiate the first synchronization now so click Next and then going to click on finish so now you will see here synchronization is going to take place and it's syncing now and 0% completed so synchronization is going to take some time so till now I am going to create one folder here called when to k-19 so also a which is going to be fired and this environment I'm going to move it here so you can see two servers AWS has been found so I'm going to move this those both server are 2019 if variation wisdom so I'm going to move it in correct folder so change membership now just put here so this is good and now if I go here I'm able to see the reports so you're going to see it's fine eleven new updates now and now if I go here and all update I'm going to select unapproved update any then we have to approve those so everything is for 2019 so I'm going to approve all these updates and put it on approved for install on this folder whatever server is going to be come under this membership went to k-19 so apply and this is done and now we don't have any unapproved update and now if I go to server you will be able to see the downloading is going to start soon so you can see download is downloading for these patches which we have just approved is started you can see from here network utilization and they fired a fresher you will be able to see the full size and what size has been yet downloaded so this is good and now if I go for computers will be able to see this and once this is saying and all the updates are available you are going to get these are like updates which computers require updates so those computers are going to get these updates from the W so server which we have just installed and configure so you can see computer and install not applicable so it's going to
