now if you run Windows Server 2012 r2 essentials as a virtual machine on their Windows Server 2012 r2 essentials host then you may find that every couple of weeks unexpectedly but if the virtual machine and the house shut down now after investigating this for a number of customers we found that the issue is actually the server infrastructure licensing service now the easiest way around this is just to disable it because it's not needed now in this video I'm gonna show you how so stay tuned so the screen you can see here is my Windows 10 Professional PC at the bottom I've got a remote desktop connection to my Server 2012 r2 host so as you can see I've got hyper-v manager open and I've got hay Server 2012 r2 essentials virtual machine running on there but the work we're going to do in here isn't done on the virtual machine is done on the house so it can just close hyper-v manager if we then open task manager click on more details and then click on services here if we then see the service server infrastructure licensing service now this is the problem service and it's the one that is causing our virtual machine and our house to shut down every two weeks so what we need to do is stop this service from running so the obvious thing will be to try and stop it but we do get error messages about permissions every every time we'll try and do that so we have to think of another way around it so the first thing we do is we go into control panel and we go to folder options and then we go into view and we want to show hidden files and folders want to uncheck that one and we want to uncheck that one click on yes and then click on apply and okay we'll then need to go to the C Drive windows go down to system 32 which is here and then within here we need to find that service as a whole load of folders here with intact s and I will see the service here now as I said before in this cat type of configuration with an essentials virtual machine on an essentials host this file is not needed so we can right click on it we can go to properties and we can click on security and then click on advanced up here where it says owner we can click on change and then want to change the illness where I'm going to take over this with my IT support username click on OK and then we'll click on apply ok ok to that and ok to that now I've got the ownership I can go back in and amend the permissions so I can go to security click on edit and add the IT support user account with permissions and we'll give that full permissions over that over that folder click apply click yes and click OK now it will should be in a position where we can just rename this I never recommend deleting anything so if we can just call this just put the word old in there and then rename it click on yes click on yes click on continue click on yes and then that has renamed that file now if we go back into task by Andrew it can right click and open services and then if we go down to that service now which is here it's already got an error message so we can go to properties and we'll click click on disabled and apply that that will disable the service and the service will not restart so that is how to stop your Server essentials virtual machine and how from shutting down every couple of weeks if you got any questions please post them below this video thank you
