Ah, the Soviet Union. If you don't remember it, you have no heart; if you want it back, you have no brain.
All joking aside, the Concorski is pretty impressive from an engineering standpoint, considering its shortcomings. As of today, you can see both Concorde and a Concorski parked together at the roof of the Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim, in Germany.
A similar story happened with the Buran and the Soviet space shuttle program. Just one quick glance at a Buran and you can tell it's a Discovery rip-off. These guys explored the abandoned hangar where 2 brand new (but unfinished) Buran shuttles are stored, it's absolutely fascinating from a historical standpoint.
It's not mentioned in the video that one Tu-144 was briefly used by NASA in the early 90s for research.
Tu-144s retirement as an airliner isn't the end of the story. One was converted to a flying laboratory and flown by NASA for several years.
Great video.
As a Brit I still main our best aircraft is the harrier jump jet. If I was going to for sheer style, I'd say the Spitfire.
Interesting video so thanks for sharing.
I love videos like this. Good shit. Subbed.
I was actually in Kazan at the start of this week, and while in a taxi we drove past one of these at the side of the road on display.
Really interesting stuff!
Great video. Subbed.
