Why Wolf is MID TIER in Brawl, and how he became AMAZING in Project M

wolf was changed a lot for the better becoming more fleshed out and dynamic essentially being given a huge facelift in between brawl and PM making wolf a Spacey from brawl into a Spacey from melee instead of keeping him rather slow and well-rounded now he's fast-paced and rather technical if you want to know what this means be sure to stay tuned what would wolf be like with melee style mechanics stay tuned wolf and brawl was actually one of the very last characters added to the game and we know this because he is pretty much not in the main story mode in Brawl until the post game and if you remember in the Sonic video this normally resulted in the last characters in the game feeling a little off and some of their animations being a little less polished definitely is the case for Wolf especially being ironic because wolf was changed a lot when he was added to smash ultimate but wolf and brawl is pretty jerky and somewhat awkward but he definitely isn't a terrible character essentially isn't the greatest either but he's a high mid-tier brawls meta is extremely top heavy so being mid-tier doesn't exactly mean you are a common character in The Meta as the high tiers pretty much run brawl's meta by a long shot some of the most broken characters of all time are in Brawl metadites in this game baby and a big thing with brawl is you have to know how to deal with chain grabs and Meta Knight which is one of the main weaknesses of wolf he's terrible at dealing with chain grabs as he's extremely heavy and pretty much his Chain Grab bait for a lot of characters like another flaw of wolf is his rather lackluster and exploitable Recovery because wolf is so heavy his fall speed is really fast and his acceleration is also really fast so he can be really exploitable off stage adding that meteor smashes are also extremely strong and brawl means wolf can get bullied off stage really hard wolf even has one of the smallest ledge grab sweet spots in the game which is Dykes especially since most of the characters in Brawl have extremely overpowered recoveries wolf definitely has more of a tougher time off stage do you actually on the cake being that wolf doesn't necessarily get to abuse techniques like vertical momentum canceling which means he's defensively can't use a tool that is a huge advantage to a lot of characters in Brawl however weaknesses aside wolf has a lot of positives having fast jumps Amazing air speed good Aerials with low Landing lag that can be Auto canceled and he has a rather decent amount of reach and disjoint which is pretty rare and brawl some of the low tiers have it really bad in that department having destroyed attacks like his iconic Blaster he has a reflector with intangibility a spammable down throw overall a pretty well-rounded character with good combo potential he has a really good dacus that propels him forward and gives him really far reach and is actually pretty good at approaching his Aerials in general have low startup and are good at setting up combos even with crazy good KO power as well like his down air and back aerial his speed and range allow him to be a very effective character at securing Kos which is pretty big and brawl well as not every character is blessed with this sort of thing his special moves being variants have already existing Star Fox characters his Blaster has a slower firing rate but it's still rather quick for projectile up special has multiple hitboxes and drags the opponents into each of its hits with the strongest being at the end his shine is in line with the other species shine attacks which means it reflects projectiles and grants him invincibility frames which can help him avoid from being Chain Grab because that can happen to a lot of characters in Brawl either way wolf was a High mid-tier character in Brawl not being terrible but not reaching his full potential either being ranked at 14th as of right now in the C tier which isn't bad but isn't amazing either he's not really particularly too common wolf was given a significant facelift in Project n a major thing that the mod does is completely remove a lot of unnecessary attacks choppy animations all around just improve the characters and make them more streamlined some characters get changed completely While others receive quality of life Buffs wolf on the other hand was made into one of the most iconic versions of the character of all time you might be thinking I'm just saying this and speaking in hyperbole no this version of wolf would become one of the most high iconic and cool versions of wolf out there many other mods would even create their own spin on this version of wolf whether it's the more recent melee mods out there or even Rivals of aethers Zeta burn which pretty much is a rival's version of PM wolf but that's besides the point stay tuned for that as well wolf was created all the way back when the only version of wolf was brawlwolf which had choppy animations pretty awkward attacks overall being kinda in so they decided to think what would you do to Wolf if you gave him melee style mechanics what if you made him to a Spacey from brawl to a Spacey and melee and put that in Project M and they did Wolf essentially is a mix of melee Fox and Falco being sort of a middle ground in between those two characters being more unique enough to differentiate from the two of them first of all they completely removed all the bad brawl animations and they added all those pretty amazing melee Advanced Tech like wave dashing and dash dancing up smash was completely replaced this time being a brand new attack Wolf's attacks have been made night and day quicker to match the other species which means he's still a fastballing character and is a glass Cannon character as well he has some of the best movement tools in the game a crazy amount of offensive power like his lasers and good Aerials and he has the best vertical endurance out of any character in the cast along with also becoming one of the heaviest characters in the game with also one of the fastest fall speeds in Project Dem this means he can spam Aerials baby wolf can pretty much just shuffle for days up smash is now a decent combo tool for lower percentages his tilts I mean what do you expect he's a Spacey of course these attacks are going to be great for comboing and his special moves have been heavily changed as well shine of course of course he's gonna have shot if he's a Spacey and that's it kidding the angle of this change to send diagonally upwards which allows wolf to set up combos more consistently and because it's essentially in line with the melee Spacey shine that means it can be canceled and you can spam it baby his shine is as quick as launching tool and his whole kit and by far is one of the biggest Buffs that the attack was given becoming a very defined move in Wolf's move set Wolf's laser was heavily changed its end lag can now be canceled with an air Dodge which might not make sense on paper but it heavily changes wolf from Fox and falca while on paper you might not think this is a big deal and this is just a generic projectile it actually isn't if you notice wolf players at high level play they'll pretty much shoot double laser walls while attacking and it looks kind of insane wolf being able to air Dodge out of laser basically means he can wave land while shooting at the same time which heavily opens up the capabilities of this attack the Blaster shot shoots slightly faster but they are our overall slower projectiles compared to brawl really does have good utility still the Blaster has no knockback which is huge to his combo game and gimps off stage Wolf's up special allows wolf to drift outside of his recovery which improves its utility tremendously this is similar to the species of bees and melee a b also was made into a single hit attack so it no longer drags them into the final hit side special was changed to be one of the most iconic versions of this attack giving a hitbox at the extremely strong end of the animation also allowing you to kind of control it in a way where you can tilt on whether you want to go up or down with wolf PM was the first one to do that it's kind of a big change to this move because it definitely Buffs it when connected wolf also can jump out of the attack and recover which is honestly insane being able to jump out of the connected attack is a crazy huge buff this is by far one of the most risk reward moves that wolf has in his moveset and it's super hype Dash attack is a good swiping move that allows wolf to extend combos his Nair no longer has a sweet spot and the attack is now a more consistent hitbox instead of being multiple hitboxes Forward Air has way less end lag and now has a sweet spot that is great tool for koing and combo back air is a crazy good spacing tool and it still has its KO potential as well it's a really strong tool in project done still up here has a longer duration its utility is way better for juggling and this is a big tool at low percents and even covering platforms down air is much faster in the hitbox lasts longer making it a really good combo finisher and off stage punishing tool it feels very similar to Captain Falcon's down air if you want a comparison to a Melee character wolves is a big spiking tool on stage and even can meteor off stage as well which means this move is really satisfying and strong his throws were made into combo tools and their utility is more match up and weight dependent now and you will see mainly a lot of back throw down throw in up throw especially but again it's more matchup dependent however despite these layers and layers of positives this being one of the hypest versions of the character he's seen as one of the easiest characters to combo in all of pm he falls Like a Rock off stage like most species especially with him being rather heavy recovering is very important with wolf because he definitely has a good recovery but you have to use it correctly because any wolf newbie is probably gonna get spiked off stage a lot because wolf just Falls really fast he doesn't have a flame hitbox on his up special which are beneficial to Fox and Falco's up specials which does kind of hurt his recovery a little bit but again he still has a good recovery no doubt he is a Spacey at the end of the day so it is something to note he's a lighter character compared to the brawl version which adds to the second con of him ultimately being combo food a lot of the time some would say he is really easy to combo because of this and he definitely is there's also been counter play developed against his laser so people have figured out ways to Clank with the projectiles to try to beat it which is something that is more seen nowadays in Project M which ultimately shows the depth of the PM meta as people are figuring out ways to beat Wolf's really amazing laser wolf was made as one of the best characters in Project M's meta being arguably one of the most consistent characters in all of pm he was always a really good character in the old days and even today in Project plus he's bounced around from being top two in Project M 3.6 only dropping one spot in Project plus which means wolf is still an amazing character in The Meta receiving very small changes from pm to P plus he is the Premier Spacey of Project M and overall being heavily buffed compared to the kind of awkward version of brawl wolf sorry brawl wolf fans now wolf is an amazing character in Project M and I recommend you guys playing him if you want to play a Spacey with a Twist on the concept he's currently number three on Project glass's most recent tier list which shows he's really freaking good
