played professionally for over nine years including in the lcs he's the pioneer of roaming top lane in nna and he's really put in the work for all of us to take the strategy to the next level every decision from minute one to the nexus exploding he has thought about and planned out to make sure the strategy gets him the win but today we are talking about his smite bard top lane this is not the champion everyone is complaining about or even talked about as a roaming top laner so why is he playing it bard is a champion who has built for roaming with incredible mobility with portals that can create opportunities and move teammates around to set up kills like no other champion he's great at engaging on multiple enemies catching people and also baiting making him one of the best playmakers and the thing that makes him really special unlike most roaming top laners bart has a tool in his kit that's literally made for roaming and rewards him for it that is his infinitely scaling passive collecting chimes so no matter how little goldbard is getting as long as he's getting these chimes he's scaling up and getting stronger but to really show the power of this strategy i need to show you in game because lolo has been forced to start innovating right from level one the old level one smite strategy of stealing an enemy buff that was popularized by some of meta youtuber is no longer consistent in high elo enemies just know it's going to happen so bad's whole early game plan needs to be remade but just needs two things early on unlock his abilities and then start roaming the way lolo does this doesn't actually start in the game it starts in the chat he absolutely needs to tell his jungler to start topside with him pathing towards bot lane top lane theoretically does not even exist this game as bad as the one laning in it you want to be on weak side meaning your jungler should ignore you and focus on helping the other two lanes this starts lets you do a big leash on blue buff using your smite for the first time as well as also helping with grom without missing any xp the smite and the big leash put your jungler ahead already but now needs his xp so he starts in top lane the best thing for him to do is let the wave push into him this lets you avoid actually having to fight the enemy top you can let it push into your tower and it will slowly build up a bigger wave and push back towards the enemy thanks to this slow push bart's wave becomes massive giving bard level 4 and the wave pushes out completely this gives bard a window to go straight down to the crab and smite it away from the enemy jungler giving his team double crab at the same time his jungler spotlane doing the other crap so his team gets an immediate advantage if the enemy top laner refuses to push the wave then bard can do it himself continuously spamming auto attacks and using q on the way for damage even having hail of blades to auto attack the enemy wants get more attack speed so he can push the wave faster importantly you need to have the wave pushing by the time crab spawns so it's safe for you to leave but now leaves top lane and doesn't return beginning his roaming strategy his first goal is always bot lane either going straight into their lane to set up early kills or going for a tower dive since your jungler is passing bot lane they may have already gone for a gank and got summoner spells this graves did a terribly risky gank but it does get all of their flashes so now bard can dive the enemy botlane are living in their worst nightmare playing 4 vs 2 for the rest of the game but is not going to let them get anything any fight spotlight here should be good with the enemy top laner left on their island his team always has a 5 vs 4 in any fight enemies should not be fighting you and if they do they will lose his support item continuously gives him gold income when he hits enemies so he relies on that to start building up items spacing for swifty's boots as soon as you can even having futures market so he can buy it even earlier he gets a sweeper and control ward since he cares a lot about controlling vision to get more ganks off choosing where to go next is the most difficult part of this strategy so lolo has to constantly use logic in this game bart went bot lane and got a double kill so now his bot lane wants a base this means bard can't really go back again because his teammates aren't there meanwhile the enemy top laner is on his tower getting ahead and since the enemy top hasn't based yet but has a good advantage and can go to stop him he just stalls the enemy top laner for a while he doesn't have to stay top lane he can then leave to make even more plays but at least he had a small impact during the downtime but is a great champion for top because you don't always have to be making a play you can instead just be grabbing more chimes and be scaling also getting speed so you can get to your next play but lolo's game plan is not as complicated as it sounds he's already planned another play that he can do every game when the buffs are spawning again around 7 minutes you know the enemy jungler will be on their first one and your jungler will also be topside on his so you can assume that if you gank bot lane the enemy jungler can show up and you'll be in a three versus three and this can end in a disaster meanwhile top lane is also pushing in since your jungler is busy farming so the solution to this is bad going top once again just to hold tower for a while the best way to describe it is a balance of pressure instead of thinking of yourself as a champion think of yourself as a buff that gives your team power so you can choose where you think the buff is most needed the plays he makes are not based on getting himself ahead he plans based on the impact he can have in any situation it's not the usual csing or winning lane it's a new way of thinking about league of legends instead of thinking i have to always be ganking here bard spotlane has shoved the enemy into tower his jungler is soloing the dragon with no risk if bart is there he can't really do anything extra his team already has everything under control so instead he's making sure top isn't taking place keeping his team even dragon soul is a very easy win condition with this strategy since you're bot lane early on with an extra smite you can easily force it and start stacking super early it's not worth throwing the game for one early dragon and kills and gold will always be worth more as they usually mean you get the dragons anyway but spam ganking continues with special portals through walls to travel the maximum distance this one through the sideline wall is great for punishing overextended enemies or this one mid lane always lets you get behind the enemy mid laner and should be a free kill if they have no flash but top has another trick up his sleeve stopwatch this rune is super smart on roamingtop because the time you get it is lowered by getting kills and assists but already wants to get loads of these early on so you should get the stopwatch even faster this champion is not meant to solo kill enemies he doesn't have the damage or the outplay potential early on so stopwatch is a tool that covers this disadvantage but starts to bait the enemy in and surprises him with invincibility meanwhile his teammate shows up and collects a free kill it's such a good beat tool for ganking as well as early fights throughout the game while bard is getting his bot and mid ahead he's passively helping his jungler his jungler should get all of his usual camps as well as all the waves in top lane these together push them way ahead of the enemy jungler and keeps your jungler even in gold with the fed enemy top lane at level 6 bard gets even better especially for tower diving you want to alt either the tower and the enemy to set up a cc chain after it expires so you can get a kill or just alt the tower leaving the enemy underneath it with no protection letting you dive with no risk in mid game we are now onto a new section of lolo's plan at this point you should have helped your bot lane take tower so they should rotate to mid your mid lane goes to a side lane and jungle keeps collecting camps and elena farm getting even stronger you don't want to just leave your jungler you can help him and speed up his farming even smiting camps for him to get them lower while also being ready to help mid lane and collapse at any time between these two lanes bud is still getting chimes as his main resource and is leeching xp from both of them to stay even probably the biggest advantage of having barred in this game is his ability to completely deny rift herald getting gold enemies always get the option to take rift herald since bard is playing bot side spavad is no longer busy laning so when they try to use it he can always show up and alt the tower to stop rift doing any damage and thus stop them earning any gold from their plates he uses alt as herald is preparing to charge so the duration of the alts lasts long enough for the herald to hit and your tower loses no health letting the herald be killed for free like any good roaming support you can now push mid lane and invade the enemy jungle to get deep vision having extra wards is crazy effective in solo queue and this is a classic support play in high elo even opening up the chance to roam to a side lane for a 2 vs 1 kill as well this is especially great if you can shut down the enemy top lane as that takes away the enemies only advantage so now at some point your team should be so far ahead that even aggressive fights can be taken to push your advantage if you win a fight here the game is as good as over outside of all the kills but also has a chime collection goal he wants to collect 35 times as soon as possible these give him 35 stacks of his passive and unlocks his aoe auto attack cone this is the biggest power spike for bard in terms of his passive which gives him a ton of free stats and what is basically an extra ability that slows enemies but that isn't the end of his scaling this is the chance of what happens with more chimes pretty much increasing the slow and the amount of meeps he can hold at any time this is great because more meeps equals more damage and he can actually start to do a surprising amount of damage at this point with just auto attacks and healer blades being able to hold against some top laners after 14 minutes objective bounties start activating currently the way they work mean that bard's team should pretty much always be given them for free even if they're ahead the system is completely broken giving bart what i would call a third way to win the game this is apart from the roaming for kills and the dragon stacking this part is being nerfed in the next patch so the strategy should still work but it won't be as completely broken as it is now but's job now is to help his team get picks to set up objectives using alt long range is usually not a good idea since it travels for longer making it easier to dodge a short range ultimate from fog of war is the best way to catch and if you get a kill in your head you can go straight to baron it can even be good to just alt and zone enemies forcing them to dodge into your team to try and avoid the cc which can also get them killed dragon soul is now claimed for bard's team around this time because of the early stacking 20 minutes is the earliest you can possibly get it 25 to 30 is more likely if enemies get a couple dragons but bard is now actually starting to power spike with all of these chimes collected and is cc ready one of the strongest parts of the game for bard is team fights but is super versatile in fights having lots of different jobs he can perform the most common is using alt as an engage starting the fight off with a pick and good setup for your team cc the most common way for bar to fight is simply using q to catch and stun targets you can play aggressive using his bottle to chase or peel and use your portal as an escape using w mostly as a speed up tool not actually a heel but another important way for bad to fight is stalling enemies and distracting if you can land a multiple champion q stun it's usually a good idea whatever else is happening and it sets up a free ultimate it can be great as it lets your team fight elsewhere while you're taking up the time of multiple enemies and set up a good collapse as well this clip is good because the game is obviously already won by bart's team but you can still learn something from it riots are nerfing this style soon and i want to give my thoughts but quickly here is the build and runes there's a european player playing full ap bard top so he can carry the game but lola's build is all based on changing depending on his teammates he always buys support item and dark seal but then his mythic actually depends on what supports he has even shroud is good if you have a damage support as once you immobilize an enemy they take more damage from your team purely is good if you have a playmaking support like a morgana lock it is good to spam shields and keep your team alive with an enchanter support like lulu where fights will be longer following up with anathema's as that's a great buy against the fed enemy top laner completely avoiding the advantage they've got usually he follows this up with tank items so he can be a front line but also zhonya's is a great item for bard it's a common item for bad means like fever knights in korean high elo as it lets bard make it play and also keep baiting so should riot really remove this strategy with all the videos i've made interviews i've done and games i've analyzed i probably spent over a hundred hours just with this strategy so my opinion on top lane roaming is that it's got a bad reputation people think it's just easy enchanted champions played in a lane that's useless just permanently roaming around the map and it's really boring but after i watch lolo who's clearly an incredibly good player that quote to me is very untrue this strategy is all about problem solving i would actually say that watching a good player solve problems on the fly is like watching a kind of art i learned something new every 20 seconds of gameplay just by thinking about why he did something of course right now the skill cap of this strategy is really high because it's like you're playing a completely new game so it does suck in low ranks because it's like first timing a champion and first timing a role at the same time if perfected this is such a cool way for league of legends to be played i understand all the problems with it especially it's boring to play against because the best counter is just not fighting and that is very boring so i understand that riot should nerf or even remove it but it is an important chapter in league history that should be remembered for the right reason it broke top lane it broke bot lane in a broke jungle it let players be truly creative and it gave riot a huge balanced headache and i'd say that's a pretty big success thanks again to
