called Caleb Mahomes 2.0 and Caleb has heard similar comparisons Justin Fields the market went from robust to non-existent maybe um however according to former bear Kyle long the team should look to keep fields and draft Caleb if I'm the Bears I draft Caleb Williams I'm going to sit him the first year because 75% of what he was able to do at USC you can't do that in the NFL the other 25% Translate to Patrick Ms in the realm of NFL prospects we've all heard the words generational Talent next big thing you name it but never in the history of the NFL has a draft prospect scared the NFL as much as Caleb Williams what has Williams done to be ahead of Justin Herbert and Lamar and the answer is what hasn't Caleb Williams done Caleb Williams stepped onto a college football field as a freshman at Oklahoma down 28-7 leads him on a comeback is excellent the rest of that year then transfers to USC wins the Heisman Trophy he plays a moms in style the kid is as can't miss as can't miss gets he has more leverage than ever and a skill set that the league is not ready for this is why the NFL is terrified of Caleb Williams Caleb Williams has treated us all to countless jaw-dropping highlights in the recent years the ability to make any throw from any angle has made him a blockbuster entertainment type quarterback and you won't be surprised to hear that he was delivering the same kind of excitement in high school a young Caleb stood out from the crowd at Gonzaga College High School in Washington DC thanks to the kind of attributes we associate with him today after getting his feet underneath him as a freshman Williams lit up his opponents throughout his sophomore year as he passed for 2,62 yards and 26 touchdowns whilst also adding 394 more yards and 10 scores as a rusher in doing so he led Gonzaga to a wcac championship crowning them as the number one team in the district the crowning moment though arrived on an insane 53 yard hilmy from Caleb Williams that helped them down their Rivals as the clock ran out claws in the air and then is going to get there and and somebody called that did somebody catch that gag did they catch that touchdown the he was named the Washington DC Gatorade football player of the year for his efforts across the season another strong season followed in 2019 in the blueprint to becoming an NFL quarterback gained another pick after he won a prestigious Elite 11 MVP award he joined a list of past Stars such as Andrew Luck Tua aloa and more recently CJ strad to have won this award the future was certainly bright for Caleb Williams S as he was labeled a five-star recruit by 24/7 Sports but just four stars for some reason from ESPN and it's fair to say that this was probably the last time we underestimated him after assessing his college options Caleb Williams committed to Oklahoma Lincoln Ry was a big reason why Williams made this decision with the coach having a lot of success with quarterbacks such as Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield both players won the Heisman and went with the number one overall pick in their respective drafts Williams does play very similar to these two types of quarterbacks so it was a sensible decision he made to follow Riley a year as the backup to learn the ropes looked like the most likely scenario for Williams in Oklahoma but his journey to the starting role skipped a few steps when he was asked to come in and replace a struggling Spencer Rattler in the sixth game of the season and even before Williams was subbed into that game Lincoln Riley sent him out onto the field on a fourth in one and Caleb Williams went on to do what Caleb Williams does best the length of the football it's a keeper all the way makes a cut there's his free and look out PB Williams in the secondary they're trying to run him down di touchdown Oklahoma and one underwhelming Spencer Rattler Drive later Lincoln Riley handed the keys to Caleb Williams and Caleb Williams LED them back down from 21 to win that game he entered the game with the team down by three scores and promptly completed 16 of 25 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns to go nicely with the 66-yard rushing touchdown he had already cashed in the game tying touchdown was an outrageous off-platform pass on Third and 19 from his own 45 yd line the genie was absolutely out of the bottle like Caleb Williams had arrived and college football had its newest Star Caleb Williams took over the starting job and for a few weeks it seemed like everything the kid touched it turned to Gold he was shift and could move and I mean honestly the kid was making throws that some NFL quarterbacks can't even make he showed maturity with his pocket presence and it made it hard to believe that this kid was just a freshman and playing this well the team put up 139 points in Williams first three games as a starter culminating in a 402 yard six touchdown game against Texas Tech but it wasn't all smooth sailing a bit of shine was taken off his freshman season thanks to a dismal two interception game against Baylor which resulted in just 142 yards and nine completions another loss followed in the last game of the regular season but this was followed up by a bow game win against Oregon to close the season on a high Lincoln Riley had looked like he was going to produce another Heisman Trophy winner and more wins surely looked like they were just right around the corner well not quite we all got a little bit ahead of ourselves reports L and riy is leaving Oklahoma he will take the head coaching position at USC Oklahoma fans had the rug pulled from underneath them as Lincoln Riley announced anounced a stunning move to USC this immediately set a panic amongst all the fans because they honestly just didn't know what was the next thing that was going to happen to Caleb Williams and surely just a few weeks later their nightmare came true as Caleb Williams went on to announce that he was following Riley to USC and was now a Trojan while it was a tough decision to leave Oklahoma both Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams were soon rewarded for the move Williams absolutely thrived in his new team putting up a new record of 4, 537 yards in his first season with 34 touchdowns and just four interceptions also rushing for 372 yards and 10 more scores on the ground the acrobatic passes continued to go viral and Williams proved that he was a legitimate threat with his legs as well a 12-1 record set up a pack 12 championship game against Rivals Utah who were the only team to have handed the Trojans a defeat that year on the big stage Williams threw for 363 yards and three touch downs but it wasn't enough as Utah landed 47 points on them to win the game it was a heartbreaking end to the season but one that Caleb Williams could be proud of he had proved that he could come to a new team and deliver right away which is something he's going to have to do in the NFL and on top of this he did everything in his willpower to make sure he put his team in the best possible position to win the game like I mean the dude was putting up absolutely outrageous numbers in college and on top of this he won several prestigious Awards along the way in addition to winning the Pack 12 offensive player of the year award Williams was named a unanimous All-American and winner of the Heisman Trophy by now the generational Buzz was already picking up a lot of steam as people pinned the Trojan as the next big thing at the position the 2023 season was full of absolute frustration for Williams though he did Dazzle early in the season leading the team to a 6-0 record but I mean when their defense is just absolute garbage there is no way he can make up for that after averaging 51.8 points in the first six games USC lost their last six games to take them out of contention for the playoffs after throwing 22 touchdowns in the first six games Williams threw eight in his last six it was a rough way to end his college career but Williams still boasts an impressive statline that read 3,633 passing yards 30 touchdowns and only five interceptions and like I said earlier the collapse of him can honestly be blamed on the defense and just the team in general around him now yes you can say that there were some Aon throws that he probably shouldn't have thrown in those games but looking back on the tape the dude was one running from his life because their offensive line had a 42% blown block rate and on top of that when you add a defense that is giving up an outrageous amount of points every single game the kid can only do so much in just two seasons Williams had posted 8,170 yard which was good enough to position him seventh on the alltime USC leag leaderboard rivaling quarterbacks who had spent 4 years at the school his 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns in 2022 were both school records and his 72 career touchdowns at USC placed him fourth on the school's alltime leaderboard it may have been a heartbreaking end to the 2-year tenure but the stats speak for themselves and everybody was desperate to see how Caleb williams' game would translate to the NFL as it stands today Caleb Williams does look like he's going to be the number one overall pick we don't know to what team because the Bears still might keep Justin fields for some godforsaken reason even though he is a god- aful quarterback but for Caleb Williams and all the quarterback prospects Caleb Williams is the most exciting by far he is one of the biggest names to enter the NFL draft and to go along with the likes of Andrew Luck Trevor Lawrence and Joe burrow who were all clear-cut number one overall draft picks and look williams' skill set is completely different than the names I just mentioned but there is one unavoidable attribute that is absolutely enticing every single team the momes factor it's absolutely cruel of me to compare Caleb Williams who's never played an NFL down to one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever step on a field but their play styles are just so similar when you look at them Mahomes has made a name for himself as a free willing playmaker with an electric arm he can often be seen making ambitious underarm or lob passes which Williams himself has been known to do if you want to be a little bit easier on the guy then you can compare him to a guy like Kyler Murray who also won a Heisman trophy under Lincoln Riley both players made a name for themselves by scampering around behind the line of scrimmage and utilizing a strong arm to pick up yards down the field like both momes and Murray Williams can use his legs to pick up a first down when nothing is available in the passing game but now of course the best thing about Caleb Williams is that he makes the most incredible passes look like they are just seamlessly easy for him from the hail Mar in high school to the third 19 at Oklahoma to any of the throws you see on a highlight reel on YouTube of him at USC he just makes it look like it's an easy thing to do for fun he doesn't need a perfect base to reach the furthest corners of the field he can hit Those portions of the grid iron while on the move or contorting his body in unnatural ways it is a truly Elite skill set and one that makes him a top 10 quarterback as soon as he enters the NFL now no Prospect can be perfect and there are a few things that he will need to iron out when he gets the NFL one of the reasons Williams has been making such outrageous long passes is because he was always playing from behind the USC defense could not stop a nose bed which meant Williams was always having to hunt for the big passes and play herob ball and as a result of this and always having to make a big play just taking the easy checkdowns weren't in his Arsenal because he had to literally put the team on his back operating on that short to intermediate game in the NFL is what's going to make him get a living and get paid in the NFL unlike in college Williams is not going to be the best player on the field that's why he could get away with so much stuff the dude was just far and above the best player on the field of those 22 hell even those 44 players on both sides of the ball he's not going to be able to get away with some of that gimmick stuff he was doing in college so he's going to have to learn how to play and how to develop an offense in the NFL like being on time and on schedule is crucial if he can do that and the ceiling for him is incredibly High almost every mock draft out there has Williams as the number one overall pick and rightfully so he won plenty of games at College proved himself on the biggest stage by delivering a dramatic comeback win as a freshman and can make every throw necessary he will enter the league as a top 10 quarterback and has the potential to put out a career that Rivals Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady but I want to know what you guys think is Caleb Williams going to be a generational Talent or is he going to be a generation bust let me know down in the comment section below and as always I will catch you guys in the next one
