when you have honda's biggest rival toyota fly their executives inside the honda jet elite then you know the jets are seriously good that's probably why honda has managed to sell over 170 units worldwide since they started in 2003. but enough talking let's look at the jet itself hi my name is james and here is the honda jet the best-selling business jet let's dive right into it shall we so why is the honda jet so popular honestly these guys have killed it in the past few years even during the pandemic they still managed to make and sell about 30 units which is absolutely insane now they say that the jet has been considered the highest selling jet as a small business aircraft and this is nothing new it's been going on for the past four years now seeing the new trend maribeni corporation decided they would capitalize on the opportunity they bought several honda jets and they offer charter services for some of the richer individuals in the country and with a price tag of forty seven hundred dollars per hour we'd say it's pretty affordable another reason that passengers have been buying the honda jets like crazy is because they're so well built in fact because of the great performance on some modest fuel consumption and a cabin that can accommodate up to seven people in a rather luxurious fashion the honda jet is slowly becoming a market favorite if we get down to the details we'll see that the honda jet can be operated by either a single pilot or a tandem the total length of the aircraft is measured at 42 feet 7 inches while the wingspan is somewhere around 39 feet 9 inches that's pretty decent if you ask us and when speaking of height this aircraft is only 14 feet 11 inches tall the max takeoff weight of the aircraft is about 10 700 pounds and this is partly allowed by the two ge honda hf-120 turbofan engines which keep this plane flying as smooth as possible now since we talked about a modest fuel consumption we should mention that if you were to fly at 420 knots which is the cruise speed of the honda jet then you're looking at a fuel consumption of about a thousand pounds per hour if you take that speed down just 60 knots to 360 knots then the fuel consumption goes down to about half of the first number or just 542 pounds per hour see why we said that the jet has modest fuel consumption if you want to know how far you can go with this jet then you should know that any destination that's 650 miles away can be reached without the need to refuel plus you'll soar above the skies because the honda jet has a service ceiling of 43 000 feet and one of the interesting things you might have noticed on the outside is that the engines are not mounted under the wings they're not even mounted on top of the wings they're in fact elevated above the wings on a platform this is a peculiar design feature that the creator of this aircraft wanted to have because it offered a lot more room inside the cabin and the noise was brought down because the engines were detached from the plane's body and speaking of design why is the honda jet a unique piece of art before we get into this remember to smash that like button so you can keep getting awesome videos like these for free now before we get to tell you what the inside can look like we should also mention that those big wing tips you see on the outside aren't just for show because they're so big the plane gets an improved lift for a relatively small wing area and this only further improves the efficiency of the honda jet now if you don't look at the wings and the engines and you take a moment to notice the entire plane you'll see that it's a low wing monoplane because the jet has a relatively low weight it's part of the very light jet category now let's get back to those engines we talked about over the wing engine mounts are really unpopular with plane designers why it's simple back in the 1970s the germans constructed the vfw focker 614 this was a plane that was the first plane that had the engine suspended above the wings why didn't it catch on first of all the airplane was a commercial failure second this new engine configuration interfered between the wing and the engine and the speed suffered that's why it remained buried in aircraft history designers scoffed at it but the hondajet designer saw an opportunity you see he knew about all the issues that the engine was facing and he knew that the placement of the engines was wrong after a lot of testing he found the optimal engine placement that would not only not slow the plane down but it would provide less wave drag compared to the standard models that's why the engines are now placed at 75 percent of the wing cord which superimposes the airflow over the wing with the one around the engine before we move on we should mention that the engine placement the aerodynamics of the fuselage and the lightweight materials that are used to make this jet all contribute to getting a 20 percent better fuel efficiency and that pretty much covers the outside of the plane when we open the door and we jump inside a whole new world opens up you have a cabin that's 17.8 feet long and five feet wide the only thing that they would have improved on is the height the cabin is only 4.8 feet from floor to ceiling so unless you're a runt you're going to have to bend your back when walking in and the seat configuration can vary for the different jets you have pullout tables so you can get some work done while flying and the interior is all leather but none of that is really interesting the best part about this private jet is the fact that you have a special room for a lavatory that's all thanks to those engines being mounted above the wings instead of the rear of the jet their sails have skyrocketed in the past few years even though the first three years since offering the honda jet they only sold two units and speaking of their roots let's talk about that before producing the honda jet this car manufacturer looked for different ways of entering the aviation market for about four decades they started back in the 80s when they produced their very first honda mh01 turboprop was the first small business jet they designed and since then they've never stopped next came the honda mh02 which was assembled in mississippi but after 1996 the aircraft was shipped to japan and they never sold a single model of it surely there was a better way the founder of the company and the head designer michi masa fujino started working on a brand new design for the company in 1997. he drew up some rough sketches on a napkin at first but then he solidified the design in 1995 and they wanted to call it hondajet an interesting fact is that the nose of the plane was inspired by the design of the shoes made by the popular luxury shoe designer salvatore ferragamo it's the first time we've heard of someone linking shoes and planes but hey whatever makes epic jets in the fall of 2000 honda r d americas set up their research facility in north carolina after three years of hard work in december 2003 the honda jet took its first flight but the company still needed some way to see if the public would buy their new small business jet during the eaa air venture oshkosh air show honda announced their first model and the fans loved it this gave the company courage to push forth and commercialize the honda jet of course after getting certification from the faa initially they had planned that the first delivered plane would be in 2010 but there were some complications that's precisely why they received the certificate in 2015. with the company investing 1.5 to 2 billion dollars into this project failure was not an option and you know what after a few slow years at first sales picked up and now they practically dominate the market for small business jets with their two models the hondajet apmg and the hondajet elite these are the two models that are selling like crazy and please don't let the name fool you they're both 5.3 million dollar jets and pretty much everything is the same the slight difference in performance comes when you look at the range of both of these jets the elite comes with a final destination that's farther away but only by a little you see the elite has a total range of 1437 nautical miles while the apmg has a 1359 nautical mile range the cruise speed remains the same at 422 knots and the baggage space is still the same with 66 cubic feet oh yeah we should also mention that the elite can transport six passengers plus a pilot or two pilots plus five passengers but if you look at the apmg then you'll realize that the capacity is shrunk this means that instead of seven people on board you can only get six people in total one of which is the pilot other than that the two planes look nearly identical except for the transportation capacity but if you're like any normal four person family then getting each of these will work wonders for your business and travel you can fly halfway across the country for a good deal hey yes you don't forget to smash that subscribe button and hit the notifications bell bye for now
