[Music] hi and welcome to beston Tesla so we have been hearing from the haters that the big boys are coming for Tesla for the better part of a decade and through the last 6 years they have all come out with their so-called Tesla Killers but no one is matching Tesla and their sales are not very impressive compared to Tesla why is it that Legacy automakers EVS are not that well received and many of the Tesla killers are being killed and why is Tesla winning well let's try to investigate that in this video and let's Dive Right In [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so one of the first big competitors to Tesla was the jaura iace when it came out so many Tesla short sers and Tesla haters saw it as the great competitor to Tesla and it does have some nice specs and handles very well and it could even get an overthe aair R dat all the way back when it came out in 2018 but in 2023 it only sold about 3,500 units in all of Europe whereas the Tesla Model y sold 230,000 units in Europe and this was even called a Tesla killer but no wonder that it will be killed off in 2025 as the sales are almost non-existing and when the Audi Q4 came out I thought that car would do very very nicely as this was an Audi a very beloved brand all over the world and the Q4 was actually priced very nicely and it does much better than the iPay but still nowhere near Tesla's model y the Q4 sold in Europe 2023 almost 62,000 units so why is it that not many people are buying these other nice alternatives to the Teslas when we are even hearing from so many people that Tesla car and I hate Tesla and Elon Musk is bad and making some bad post on X and hurting the Tesla brand but no one else seems to be able to keep up with Tesla when it comes to Electric Vehicle sales well let's start with looking at some of the first contenders that many thought would give Tesla a run for his money the jagera iPay a car that Marx beagle was in love with you know the guy that called Tesla's model y waware well well let's take a look at why this car that promised so much was never able to get any traction because it does 0 to 60 in only 4.5 seconds so that is some pretty nice specs right there and it handles great and was even capable of doing a bit of off-road and it could actually do an over theair update all the way back in 2018 so why did no one buy this car well I think the range and charging speed was one of the big Killers for this car it has a driving range of 470 km or 292 Mi wltp on a full chance but this is the up to range they did that weird thing of saying their range is between 408 to 470 km of range but the ipce was not very efficient so the real world driving especially in cold weather was not very impressive fully charged testing it when it came out and said after our inial Drive of the ipace we estimate that the real world driving range would be between 200 250 mies and that was exactly what it turned out to be although the screen displayed a predicted range of 277 Mi on delivery after a combination of driving which included motorways around the lake district and some Urban use the average range was 5050 Mi less than this and at 227 Mi and that was during the summer so imagine how low this will get in the winter time the real world driving between charging would probably not be much more than 140 m in wintertime and about 160 miles in summertime because you don't drive it to zero and charge it all the way up to 100% so that would be okay if it had like crazy fast charging but it can only charge with 100 Kow and the later version then came it up to 100 25 KW so still very slow and the battery in the ipas is a 90 KW hour battery so you'll also have to pay much more to fill up your iace but get less range for that extra payment and it will also take a lot longer because your battery is bigger than the modai but your charging is half the speed so once again you pay more to get less I think this is what really killed the I page huge battery with slow chaning speed is a really bad combo especially combined with the poor range as well so that is a very bad look when people at the same time have to pay about double to get this EV compared to the Tesla Model why the ipace starts at €80,000 but if you want the version that can do the0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds well their top-of-the-line version the iay EV 400 PSR Dynamic h SE e what a great name they pick there has a starting price from 110,000 well Tesla's model y performance that beat the ipas on basically every single spec you can come up with cost about €60,000 in Europe I think Jaguar hoped that people will compare it to the model X but I think many people will compare it to the model y simply because of the size of the vehicle as it can't really compare to the model X in that regard as the Jaguar even has less cargo space than the model y so when people compare the eyce to the model y it becomes pretty clear why most people will choose the model y over the ice Pace as it cost almost twice as much but you get less range less charging speed less cargo space it can tow less anything really is just less but you have to pay twice as much to get this inferior product when when you look at it like this it is hard to justify buying the Jagua unless you are a true Jagua fan or that you really just like that more luxurious interior but is that really worth twice the price and yes the ipas can make an over-the-air update and it got three in the beginning to bring the latest feature they have promised to the car and to fix some of the Bucks it had but that was in the beginning so in the last 5 years it has not got one single update so it's one thing to say that you can make an overthe a update just like Tesla and a completely other thing to actually bring your customers new features every other month like you get with a Tesla another car that doesn't really get any overthe a software update is another EV that I thought actually would do very well and in terms of Legacy automakers it does do pretty well but compared to Tesla's model it is no near of course and that is the Audi Q4 I have even discussed this with some person back in the summer of 2021 that he told me that Tesla was doomed because he thought Tesla would never grow any bigger than they were in 2020 and actually they were probably going to be bankrupt now as Audi and the Germans are now coming with EVS at Full Throttle so who would ever buy a Tesla now he predicted that Audi will simply kill Tesla in Europe and Tesla would end up not making cars anymore might only make electric motors for the old Legacy automakers but I said I thought Tesla would actually become bigger than Audi within the next couple of years as well and it turned out I was right but to give the poor guy some slag he had probably seen the headline from Audi them themselves that said that they would catch up with Tesla with 7 m boots but the exact opposite happened Audi did not become as big as Tesla in the EVS but Tesla is now as big as Audi in term of vehicle sales both somewhere around 1.6 to 1.8 million vehicles in a year but again I personally also thought the Audi Q4 would do much better than it has done but I think that many have also realized that the Q4 is just the same car as the Volkswagen id4 as Sandy said if you really want the 94 but want to pay a lot more money get the Audi because it's basic the same car underneath if you um if you want an id4 but but you want to pay a lot more money buy the Audi and Tim on X has just put together a little comparison between the Audi and the model Y and it once again becomes very clear why Tesla is winning here so the specs of the Audi Q4 45 erron so the long range version does a 0 to 100 km in 6.7 seconds top speed is 180 km an hour efficiency 16.5 KW hours per 100 km range is 537 km and that is wltp for both vehicles here and the charging speed is 135 KW and the price in Germany is 53,000 and the Tesla Model y long range rewh Drive dos at0 to 100 km in 5.9 seconds top speed 217 km an hour efficiency is 15.5 KW hours per 100 km the range is 600 km and charging speed 250 KW and the price is 49,000 so the model y wins on all specs basically but is €4,000 cheaper but that is only half the story I think this is where Audi loses a lot of people because if you just look at the specs and the price here well there might be many people that want the Audi over the Tesla and the different is not that big right but then they might go to the dealership and the Tesla showrooms and test out these two cars and get an offer because the Tesla price is of course the Tesla price it doesn't change you can choose some Advanced autopilot or full self driving that is basically it but at the Audi dealership you might get a little surprised when it comes to the price because you of course want all the great stuff you get included in the Tesla that many people forget when comparing Tesla to other EVS but Timmy has made a nice ni little list here of the features that are standard in the model y but cost extra in the Audi Q4 and this is how all the Legacy automakers do it they strip the car down to get a decent price that close to the Tesla but then you have to add on everything else afterwards and here you can see if you want the metallic paint is €850 more Matrix LED lights over ,000 vegan leather seat over €2,000 and keyless entry how old school that you have to buy this extra anyway that is a € 470 wireless phone charging € 730 premium sound system €700 heat pump so make it efficient in cold weather or more efficient anyway well that comes included in your Tesla of course but with the Audi you have to pay almost ,000 heating steering wheel almost €300 assist parking over €1,200 and as he ride out to park like features but worse climate package 870 Lane departure avoiding € 680 so some safety features you have to pay extra for of course when you care about safety that is included in the package and that's why you get all of these features included in the Tesla and then there is the Comfort package plus € 1,715 and that has some outo dimmer and folding mirrors memory function for driver seats and mirrors as you know from the Tesla power adjusted front seats the prices are taken from the manufacturer's website in Germany so if we put all of these features together to get a car that is actually somewhat comparable to the model Y in terms of specs and features we have to add almost 12,000 on top of the 4,000 it was already more expensive so suddenly the customer get an offer for the Audi Q for that is €16,000 more expensive and probably 12,000 more expensive than they thought and you still get less of everything and don't get me started on the software the Audi Q4 still tell its owners that it needs oil changes so the software in the Q4 is really not very good even Sandy row was hating on the software in the Audi saying this is really ice car guys that tried to make an EV they gave this to to a group of ice people and told them give me an electric vehicle they gave him an ice vehicle with a battery and if you skip out of some of the features like the heat pump well suddenly your car is not very efficient in the cold weather and I had someone that I know that told me that they had bought the Audi Q4 but that was not including the heat pump because he didn't want to pay the extra Bell and went on a skiing holiday in Austria and said well it's not very good in cold weather and Eevee is not very good on going on a skiing holiday right but I had just cut home from my skiing holiday in my Tesla Model Y and there was no problem because the rain drops quite a bit in the Q4 in Winter and the Q4 does not preheat the battery so the already slow charging of 135 KW becomes very bad so not an ideal thing when you range is also dropping so all in all it's just not an ideal thing when your car is in Fior but cost €16,000 more and if you don't buy all the extra features your car will be very sofar to what you get with the Tesla and all of this without talking about Tesla's much better safety score on Europe encap and the driver assist features and so on it suddenly becomes very clear why the Audi is not selling anywhere near the Tesla Mod wi sales as it does not really come anywhere near Tesla's specs and features for the same price but Audi is trying to make it look like they almost the same price but it all comes crumbling down when the customer goes to the dealership and have to pay $122,000 extra for all the features that is included in your Tesla Mod Yi and the crazy thing is that the Q4 is one of the bestselling EV models in Europe so no wonder when it is so inferior to the Tesla and much more expensive that it cannot make Tesla's sales numbers but another thing that of course also plays a big role in the sales numbers is of course Audi does not make enough of the Q4 the Volkswagen group of course has to share all the battery supply over the many many many EV models that they have with their many many Brands so the waiting time is still very long for the Audi Q4 when the malw came to Denmark I was at the delivery event at Tesla here in Aus and one of the couples that was getting a Mal y was actually someone that had ordered an Audi Q4 and had been waiting for 6 months for it but then they got told that it would be another year before they can get it so they called Tesla and within a month they can get a Tesla monwa so as long as they're not making more unit they will also have the impatience of the customers against them but when their product is this inferior at that much of a higher price it is no longer any wonder why Tesla is winning and the Legacy automakers doesn't see the demand they hope for so the problem for the Legacy automakers are manold they don't see the demand they hope for because they are up against the bestselling car in the world that is better but cheaper so they cut back on production but that would only result in longer waiting time for the customers and that might make them choose a Tesla instead making even less demand a very bad spiral to be in the the only way for someone like Audi to get out of this is to make their product much better because we know they are losing money on selling their EVS so they can't really cut the prices of the product so that is not really a probability as it will not be sustainable to scale up a business that they are losing money on so the only thing they can do is really to make the product better and as we know that is quite far out in the future as the Volkswagen group has delayed the Trinity platform so they are stuck with this inferior product for many years to come while Tesla make their product better every single day the model y we have on the streets today is a way different car underneath even though it looks very much the same on the outside but Tesla is constantly making their cars better as most of you will know whereas the Audi Q4 is basically as bad as it was when it came out and there will be years before they come out with something that is much better than it is today but Tesla will of course continue to improve their cars every single day going forward so when Audi does come out with something new Tesla will have moved the gold poost up like 1,000 M so the old Legacy automakers is in kind of a pickle here because Tesla is forcing the old guys to cut cost even though they said they would never enter the price war in Europe as Volkswagen said but funny enough after Tesla came out with their Tesla Model 3 refreshed at a very compelling price where the standard range that has basically the exact same range as Volkswagen's ID3 Pro s that is the one with the longest range but overall the refresh model 3 can hardly be compared to the much smaller and inferior ID3 as the refresh model 3 is so much better it's not even funny but the ID3 Pros did cost more than the refreshed model 3 but not anymore now Volkswagen has given in a and cut the cost of the ID3 pros and all the other versions of the ID3 and now they put the price just a few hundred under the selling price of the Tesla Model 3 standard range but to even have these two cars being at the same price is still kind of crazy as the ID3 it's a much smaller car with half the features of the Tesla Model 3 and not to mention safety and performance and cargo space and towing and all that stuff so here there really is sow contest and Tesla has forced volswagen to lower their price of their EVS so now they are losing even more money on selling the ID 3s so yes it is not easy being up against Tesla when you dive a little deeper and look at the car's specs features and price it has become very clear why Tesla is winning you get more but pay less and it gets better as time goes by whereas the other cast from The Legacy automakers just gets old it's a win-win win win for Tesla and a loose loose loose for the Legacy AAS
