welcome to my channel i'm felix i make videos on my life in turkey and like basically my life this video is going to like give you an inside perspective of interracial relationships in in regards to like yeah our life so if you haven't watched my previous video on how we met i'd suggest you just post this one go watch that video then come back to this one and continue from there let me sip some coffee i left off uh at the point where we got married we had bought everything for the apartment we were living together yeah like the actual living together was so fun because we had the freedom it wasn't like you can't compare like dating and marriage honestly when you're new newly married for people who are actually married because of love it's so awesome i can say like our marriage life in kenya for like in our home was never a problem the problem arose when we were actually like settling in kenya so this video is going to like give you an inside like an inside eye into what most people on youtube are not telling you guys about iteration relationships like the real tea watch this whole video so that you can understand some things that happen that you probably might have no idea if you're even thinking about getting into an international relationship like some of these things you have to like kind of yeah get to know from a person who's experienced my experience living in kenya married to a foreigner was like this i was working and my husband had his contract had come to an end and yeah that was that was the situation at that time i had done my research when it comes to like yeah being being a foreigner living in kenya we saw the need to like start the process for getting a permit so that we can be able to live together so i thought this process was going to be so simple yeah because i thought for me like i thought it was going to be so simple because i usually see living in kenya i never thought it was such a big issue 2017 was an election year if you can remember guys 2017 was an election year and in kenya you know how election goes the whole year people pretty much don't do anything in government offices the first challenge we experienced was like the process we would have to like go through to be able to reside in kenya like peacefully and nobody to like you you don't feel like you are like you are there illegally and all that so we started that process at that time because baha had some time like some time on his work permit from his previous work and he had some savings the id the the idea was to like start start our business that was the idea this is something i didn't know and i found it very important for like to mention so that if you are a woman you don't end up like being on the wrong side of things because you think that yeah in kenya men and women are considered are considered to be equal that's just in writing that's just in writing so for ground between a different because men and women are not the same so personally uh we went to apply for the like disposal pass ideally it's supposed to be like if you are married to a foreigner in the law it says that if you are married to a foreigner you can get in and out of kenya like it shouldn't be hard for you to get in and out of kenya if you're married to a foreigner because they will give you their their spousal visa but actually that visa only applies to women like in our case my husband is a turkish man meaning he's from another country that doesn't apply so if he was to come to kenya despite the fact that i i am a kenyan citizen he has to apply for the visas and everything just like any other normal foreigner it does not give him any privileges however if i was married to a kenyan man and i am a foreign woman i would be granted permission to get in and out of kenya however i want it's just like that so if i am a kenyan woman married to a foreigner this the foreigner doesn't like he he'll have to apply for our permit just to be in kenya he has to apply for our permit which doesn't make sense like think about it if you are married to someone you would expect that the government respects like a family unit and would give maybe special permission to anybody at kenya so long as you're married to a kenya like i live in turkey i can come in and out of turkey as i wish like that is what happened in other countries but it actually doesn't apply when it comes to kenya so that is something i actually didn't know about but now now i know it's like they discourage you to get in the constitution you can marry anyone you want as long as they are of the opposite sex yeah so because we couldn't get the spousal visa the only option for us was to apply the work permit i didn't have any problem applying for the work permit but it was an election year 2017 was an election year we were applying for all these things in an election year that is like if you don't know well let me just mention it to you that ministry of like interior is the most corrupt i'm just saying that is the truth that ministry is the most corrupt and for you to get services you just have to pay something and yeah you just have to pay something that's just how things are done so that also didn't sit well with me because like you would expect that people are i don't know i i i think i was too naive to actually understand how things actually run in kenya now i know better like yeah no i know better things just don't go as they should honestly so that process for applying for the work permit was the worst and that is the hardest thing i was like that was the most cruel if if you can say i was young i didn't know these things and yeah eventually you learn so if you are a foreigner wishing to work in kenya you apply through the ministry of interior immigration department and the work permit can range from around 5 000 shillings if you intend to do missionary work and it can go up to 200 000 per year if you just want to open your own business if you are a foreigner so for us that wasn't a very big problem like yeah the idea is to work and get money and yeah live in kenya however the fact that he's married to me doesn't grant him any special rights so that just doesn't give you any special rights as and you apply through the normal process and you wait for three years so that you can be able to be treated special that i understand that there is no problem with that the only problem is actually getting the work permit the work permit is the most difficult document to get if you are a foreigner if we were to even go to kenya right now baja will have to apply for the process just like any other person despite the fact that we've been married for three years so we'll have to wait for seven years to get any special kind like even for him to get a citizenship you would wonder why we want the kenyan citizenship but i am kenyan i expect that yeah i would also want to live in kenya if i wanted to like i would i would like that option if i wanted to and it shouldn't be that hard for us if i wanted to so if you are a woman however and you don't want to work you can get the dependent pass and you and as a woman you're treated the same way as your kids i don't get that the fact that me and my kids are treated the same by the kenyan government so i don't get that at all if i wanted to work i should be given a special like a special pass probably reduced because i'm actually married to a kenyan i don't know that that just didn't go well with me and yeah and if you wanted to see in kenya temporarily you just apply for the visitors pass so the only option we actually have is to apply for the visitors pass which only allows you to stay in kenya it can it can be extended for maximum six months and in very special cases it can be extended to one year i don't even know what that actually means yeah so permanent residence is given to you if you are residing in kenya like you have been paying for the work permits for three years and it only costs 55 k now i have explained to you guys like everything my experience honestly living in kenya was the the the woman and the man are not treated the same they actually expect that yeah things are different but no they're not so the prices of general stuff leaving us like because of the different diets and everything life money being married to uh foreigner is on the higher side everything will be hiked when you go to buy normal staff services like just because you are married to a white person will feel like you have money yeah that just get used to it so yeah you will have to be paying at least more you just expect to be paying more for yeah normal stuff taxi yeah stuff like that so the cost of corruption yeah the cost of corruption if you are a foreigner living in kenya well you know if you even don't know how to speak slightly yeah the ex valley the normal anxiety your things will actually be a bit tough for me so corruption is an issue in kenya that is something you have to consider like even as you're budgeting for normal staff yeah you'll just be asked to pay when they'll try and extort you to the marks they'll destroy and extract it to the max and actually i remember when they were permit when it came to an end like needed to extend it for like three months we went to uganda the option was to go he was either like you get out of the country you come back that was also an option but we didn't want to incur that cost because yeah we like traveling honestly and why would baha have to go back to turkey and we have uganda and tanzania so we thought that we'd want to like go to shanzan to go to uganda come go for three days then come back that was the idea so that we set out to do that but at the border at the kenyan border they were they were asking like their visa is about to expire why are you choosing to get out of the country now so these guys are not stupid they know why you're doing that but that is the way they ask for dogo like that's just how it is going out of kenya was easy because his uh visa was not like he had like three or four days for the work permit to expire we went to ug but entering into uganda we paid something small because they were like why are you coming here like that's just it was an excuse for them to ask for something small because they know that because you're a permit like because all foreigners always do that they just want something small basically so it shouldn't be a problem entering into another country i don't think it should be a problem in fact it's very i would say it's very selfish to ask something like that if i was a foreigner and um if i'm a foreigner and i want to enter into kenya i just and for touristy reasons on on honestly i would just have to pay uh cash at the airport if i was traveling by air but because you're traveling like we didn't fly into uganda we were actually we we went by bus so because you're using the border they actually they actually want something small they say give you the stamp and you'll actually still pay for the cash to enter into uganda but they still want to like they'll still insist on getting something small so coming out of uganda was still a problem because we paid some cash when we actually live in uganda they still ask for more cash and when you're entering into kenya they still ask for cash so we paid like bribes three times at the same agency for practically nothing like you would expect that these guys understand that you you want to like extend the period because you are still applying for another document but these guys just want to get out of you because they know that they can do that like that's their work so yeah that was pretty much interesting yeah bribing you wouldn't it's like we were living like fugitives baja actually felt like he was living like he didn't have another option which was so sad for me it was so sad because it was frustrating we were supposed to be living in kenya peacefully but yeah it was so embarrassing just paying brides because of services that should be available but people take advantage of those services to just make some quick cash so yeah think of now i usually think of all the people who work in those those like how much money they have and just yeah those guys make up quick like they make a lot of cash in a day because think of how many people actually travel like are going in and out of kenya even for normal kenyans i remember when my sister was living in uganda she she was working there and her visa was about to expire and she had to come back to kenya and go back and she is a kenyan so i felt some ish maybe things have changed now but i know they have not changed i mean it's kenya i know things have been changed that is my rant like after we came back from uganda i decided that i don't want to continue living like this like we are on the run and we are not like we had an option to come leaving turkey we we just decided to like stop that whole process of applying for the work permit and we decided to like relocate to live in kenya and that was in 2017 so 2017 pretty much for us that is how we came to the decision to move like after what happened in uganda we were like guys we can't just it's not we are not a money bank it was just like money money money everywhere money money money you have to give something to to get a service it was just for me it wasn't going well for me because that money you're giving this has services that should be available to you but people actually take advantage and yeah try to enrich themselves because they just see how it pass on so for me i wasn't okay with that so we paid for the ticket and baja came to live in turkey and i was left with the responsibility to sell everything pack up and go and that process actually did take a long time i think i'll make a different video of how i was able to pack up and relocate like the decision to move to turkey was very abrupt had we not gone to uganda we would still be pursuing the work published but because of that discrimination that we experienced at the border we were like yeah i can't do this anymore that is what happened in my first year of marriage it was it was so interesting because i was i was so naive i can't say i was so naive at that point because i didn't know that that's how things are done i actually didn't i didn't know how bad things were process of obtaining documents it was so bad it was just so bad so like i want to end this video here if you are in uh if you are married to a foreigner i actually want you to comment like your experience living in kenya if you would recommend it if you would recommend for foreigners living in kenya if they intend to like do that you're a foreigner and living in kenya and working under an organization the experience is totally different but if you are just a common person living in kenya like intending to like live in kenya the experience is different for any foreigner and basically if you are a foreigner who's a woman the experience is totally different as compared to if you are marrying a foreign man yeah so i'd want to know all these experiences comment down below let's get that discussion like i would actually want you guys to tell me even if even if you're not a foreigner i'd actually want to know if like your thoughts about this if it's fair i don't know i don't know if it's fair but to me it wasn't fair like yeah so i don't know if you knew about this if we even knew about something like this existed like we all know interracial relationships to be so yeah awesome but things like this are i haven't gotten actually anyone talking about something like that like this like kenyan so i'd want to know like the opinion you guys have of even like other foreign marriages like i'd actually want to know something like that so thank you guys for watching see you on my next video bye
