hello there and welcome back to bullets for bucks so today we're gonna go over why I believe the how a 1500 rifle in action is superior to the Remington 700 rifle in action I've had a couple Remington 700s in Remington 770 and have been generally displeased with Remington rifles some of them have shot well but overall the quality the finish and the durability of them has what has been what's disappointed me not necessarily that they shot bad I do want to say that Remington does make some good guns some really good rifles obviously they have a long-standing rapport with a lot of people in the firearms industry not all firearms are not all Remington 700s or Remington rifles or garbage I wouldn't even say that any of them may be - the Remington 770 is garbage the fact is though is that in recent years were in less maybe five to ten years the quality control and the attention to detail on Remington's apart seems to be lacking and then there's some inherent differences - and things that how a 1500 and the howell rifles improved upon some of the things that Remington did the how a 1500 or the how a rifle it to my knowledge is actually not based off the remington 700 a lot of people say it is it's actually based off of kind of probably a combination of different rifles but basically i would say it's more based off of an old Seiko design the power actually made Seiko rifles or produce Seiko rifles or actions under licensing from Seiko years ago and they also produced the Smith & Wesson 1500 the Mossberg 1500 and a couple other rifles for big-box big-name companies in the United States so we're just going to go over a couple of the things that I feel set the how apart from Remington and a couple other manufacturers in the firearms industry so here I've gone ahead and I've removed the actions crews and the barreled action from the stock on a how 1500 and this is a how a coup you lightweight rifle that I'll be doing some more videos on in the future it's been briefly featured in one of my previous videos if you want to go ahead and see that but I'll be doing a more in-depth review on it here pretty soon for the purposes of this review I did leave these scope and scope rings on so I didn't have to adjust any of that we're gonna go ahead and pull back the bolt visually physically inspect chamber is clear of any ammunition so right off you can see that not all how is have this but this house has been machined flat here to shed weight and this is true I believe with a lot of their lightweight rifles and possibly some of their regular how a Hogue rifles also you'll see on the other side that has been machined flat here to shed weight that's something you don't typically see on production rifles that are as affordable and in it Louis and then and in his lower price range as this rifle is you definitely don't see that at on Remington's in this price range and on many other manufacturers you don't either another thing we're going to look at here is the fact that the recoil lug is extremely hefty it's much much larger than a Remington's and many other manufacturers recoil log which I personally like it also has the action screw is drilled and tapped so the action screw goes through the stock directly into the center of the recoil lug to cinch down and tighten down that recoil lug to the stock giving it a more firm betting I believe then having the action screw behind or ahead of the recoil lug another thing is of course we Remington sandwiches the recoil lug between the receiver and the barrel which just inherently isn't as good in my opinion as having the recoil lug all one part of the receiver another thing I've had Remington's with the x mark pro trigger and this trigger is the hacked two-stage trigger which is on all hella rifles and this is far superior in my opinion than the x mark Pro it isn't as easy to adjust but it is still easy to do by an aftermarket trigger one of the great things is when you go take away around take off a Remington trigger the trigger attaches to your bolt release and it's just kind of finagled mess taking off the trigger and taking apart the trigger on Remington where is on the house it literally comes out with one allen key screw so you just unscrew this one screw here and the trigger literally just comes off it's very well-made trigger you can see the housing on the trigger is very hefty and very well made and machined well trigger definitely way better also you'll see that on some Remington's not on this room not on Remington 700s but some other Remington's the rear tang part the receiver is actually a separate piece from the rest of the receiver action and that just is terrible I mean you want that good firm bedding and seating into the stock for accuracy and consistency you can see on top here another thing that I believe is nicer than a Remington and several other firearms manufacturers is this is a three position safety so the first part it locks the bolt and the trigger you move it one forward it's a little hard to do without the stock on and it locks the trigger but allows the bolt to move for unloading all the way forward of course is fire and I really like being able to lock the bolt and a trigger because when you're hunting I've had bolts catch on trees by other manufacturers and what you couldn't lock the bolt in place and so basically catches a branch goes like that and then you go to fire on an animal or something and it's out of battery or it's completely open I've even heard stories of people losing the bolt while hunting without realizing it that's never happened to me but regardless that's a feature I really like see how a 1500 can take a two piece Remington in style base but if you're going for a one piece Remington bass or excuse me a one piece base for a how a I believe it has to be specifically made for a how a rifle or a Weatherby Vanguard which by the way a Weatherby Vanguard is pretty much identical there's a little bit different trigger to me it's almost unnoticeable that's a little bit different and I believe the barrel might be slightly different I'm not even sure but basically how is a Weatherby Vanguard rifle but for a better price also another thing you can see is the bolt release and now we're kind of upside down here let me swing this around right here I like better than the Remington style which is just above the trigger you simply push it down and the bolt comes out of course it's a to lug design on the bolt another advantage over Remington has a Seiko style extractor that is much more durable and fail-proof from the remington style and on this lightweight version on several several of their rifles I believe even some of the non lightweight versions it has a hollowed-out bolt knob to shed weight which you don't see on rifles in this price category by any other manufacturer either also it's generally ported in the bolt body to allow for gases to be expelled in case of a case head failure or something along those lines Remington doesn't port there's as much then that that would allow this to essentially in case of failure possibly be a safer rifle for the shooter another thing that I like over a Remington is that to take apart the bolt you simply hold the bolt turn clockwise and the bolt comes apart and there is your firing pin on Remington you can use two laces you can use special tools but it does not come apart as easy so to me that's a huge benefit for cleaning to put it back in you simply place it so that this lug on the rear of the firing pin here goes into a groove push down with your palm firmly turn counterclockwise and locks back in place it's literally that easy now moving forward so this one is Sur coated but of course not all the rifles are that being said I've owned several of the blued rifles by how I and my Remington and I can tell you that you pretty much sweat on a Remington and the things rusted by morning just one actually probably my biggest complaint with Remington is that the finish on many of their rifles it's just subpar and substandard I have had how was out in the exact same or way worse conditions as Remington and not any rust erosion on the finish so clearly a better finish than Remington so when people say oh you just like how and you don't really you know have any reason you know Remington is a good run gun or this gun is a good gun and there's a lot of good manufacturers out there and I have many different guns by other manufacturers but why have I chosen to really align myself more with how other than the others these are the reasons why and they're real reasons they're real logical factual reasons and that is why the only thing is that on some of the house not necessarily all of them this one's Sarah coated on the inside of the receiver here action and so it was it's a little bit rougher but many guns when they're sarah coated on the inside or rougher as far as the bolt sliding in back and forth I would say on average a Remington 700 action out of the box may be a little bit smoother just a hint smoother than a howl of 1500 however after a little bit of time and cleaning me how is just as smooth and in my opinion more reliable many of the houses that are priced low come with a home stock some of the older ones and I don't know if they still haven't come with a rubberised Hogue this is the non rubberized Hogue stock and I can tell you that the rubberized ones when you did torque the foreign sometimes would make contact with the barrel but this non rubberized version here one thing that I really wanted to test was to see if that could happen this is much much more rigid than the rubberized version there is no contact unless maybe you were to really twist it web normally hard on the fore-end against the barrel so the barrel channel everything is much more rigid so I was very pleased to see that that was different than the rubberized version or maybe some of the older versions of course you can get the how inch a C's and HS precision stocks now and all kinds of different setups so the stocks are kind of not really what I'm talking about here this one is pillar bedded hope just came out with a lumen betting block stock and of course there's just many different variations to stocks with all manufacturers so I'm not really arguing I think this stock is better than the one that's on the base models of the Remington 700 but not really here to argue that one stock is better than the other the bottom metal on a howl is very nice it's actual high-quality metal works great like that this is also metal on a lot of the budget models in this price category you'll see rifles that have a plastic bottom metal or trigger guard this one does not it has real metal components which is very nice to see I don't know that I really missed anything this one's happens to be chambered in 65 Creedmoor I have another and 6 millimeter Creedmoor and another in 65 Creedmoor and next year I'll probably be looking at some other calibers but that just happens to be what these are so in closing these are the reasons why I choose color rifles overrunning tonneau and some of the other competitors it's based on my experience with these rifles so I've noticed something with how ulcer also they have the cold hammer-forged barrels and I get great consist see with a three animal out of them and great consistency overall some of the other guns I've had it you get one gun shoots great you buy another from the same manufacturer it doesn't shoot good you buy another one shoots great one thing I've noticed with Howie is they're very consistent and very reliable they have a sub MOA guarantee which some other manufacturers do not and they have a great warranty on their firearms so that is why I choose how
