a question that's been on my mind for a while now is why does the Omega aquaterra cost more than the Seamaster diver 300. this has never made sense in my brain although the aquaterra is an incredibly robust collection with multiple size options 150 meters of water resistance and really comparable movements with the 41 millimeter aquaterra having the caliber 8900 and the 38 millimeter Aqua Terra fitted with the Omega caliber 8800 which is the exact same movement that is found in the diver 300. I just never thought of the Aqua Terra as a better watch than the diver 300 the Seamaster diver 300 seems to have all-round better specifications with 300 meters of water resistance a uni-directional ceramic bezel and it is such an iconic design So today we're looking at three reasons why the aquaterra is more expensive than the diver 300. if you're new here hi my name is Brittany and on this channel we just talk about watches and hopefully not pretentious and Joyful Way I'm a newly converted Omega lover I was an exclusive Rolex fan girl but I've really felt drawn to Omega in these past few years but I've never fully understood the aqua Terrace pricing in spoiler I still don't think the aquaterra should cost as much as it does or at least it shouldn't cost more than the diver 300 but here are three reasons why it's priced the way it is [Music] so the first reason why I think the aquaterra is priced the way that it is is because of the movement the 41 millimeter variation has the Omega caliber 8900 compared to the diver 300 having the caliber 8800 there are some similarities between these two they are both self-winding with a coaxial escapement certified Master chronometer approved by metas but where the 8900 pulls ahead is with the 60 hours of power Reserve opposed to 55 hours time zone functions and this movement has two barrels increasing the power reserve and the accuracy as it distributes power more uniformly although this sounds small it is quite the upgrade particularly if you care about accuracy the aquaterra 41 also has time zone functions so I have never been hands on with this watch and tried it out but the time zone functions is where you have a quick set hour hand that can be adjusted without moving the minute hand or stopping the watch kinda like you can do with the hour hand of a GMT T So this leads me to believe that there'll be a couple of different Crown positions for setting the watch position 1 allowing you to wind the watch position 2 to adjust the hour hand and position 3 for hacking seconds and setting the minute hand I think but I don't know for sure if you have the aquaterra 41 or if you've handled it let us know in the comments down below what the time zone functions mean but I think that's what it means hey guys editing Brittany here so I've been doing a little bit more research into this watching a few more YouTube videos on the aquaterra and asking my fabulous patrons why they think the aquaterra cost more than the Seamaster and a lot of the reasons seem to be the movement um and a lot of people have confirmed that what I think the movement does is what it actually does so that's good to know so yeah a lot of people seem to think it is because of the movement upgrade with the twin barrel uh jump hour and reversible date change uh so that's awesome awesome movement awesome watch so these are the advantages of the 8900 movement upgrade but here's where it stops holding water for me it's only the 41 millimeter Aqua Terra that's fitted with this upgraded movement the 38 millimeter still uses the 8800 which is the exact same movement that is fitted on the diver 300 but it is still priced the same as the 41 millimeters at 5800 pounds so the 38 millimeter with the exact same movement as the diver 300 it is still priced at 300 pounds more okay my next fan theory on why the Aqua Terra costs more is because of the finishing this watch is insanely beautiful with angled indices lots of polishing and brushing and the horizontal teak pattern on the dial inspired by the wooden decks on luxury sailboats there are plenty of other variations as well so there's the 38 millimeter sudden burst variations models with small seconds waved opaline dials diamonds you name it the aquaterra feels like a more refined go anywhere do anything watch whilst the diver 300 is pure chunky boy sporty tool watch I don't know enough about finishing and costs of manufacturing but I still don't see this being a big enough reason I'm I'm still not buying it the diver 300 is also beautifully finished and the bracelet alone seems like it would be more difficult to produce than the aqua terraz which leads me to my third Theory and I think this one might have the greatest sway [Music] now I think this might have the biggest part to play in all of this I don't know enough about pricing structures but I would imagine it probably does cost Omega more to produce the diver 300. the ceramic bezel case construction rotating bezel helium Escape valve and the more complicated bracelet and it kind of serves as the perfect gateway drug into Omega its closest competitor in my humble opinion is the Rolex Submariner but with the Rolex Submariner costing 8650 pounds from the ad and being unavailable it almost feels unreasonable to pass up on the Seamaster it costs 5 500 pounds over three thousand pounds less which is immense and it has comparable and even arguably better specifications I really think its price point has added to the popularity of the diver 300 maybe someone saw it in a Bond movie maybe their buddy at work has one maybe they walked into the 80 looking for a Rolex and they walked out with a Seamaster I think this price difference ultimately comes down to the perception Omega is trying to create the diver 300 has been the entry-level Seamaster for decades and we as watch Geeks notice when that price creeps up whereas the aquaterra is probably cheaper to produce but Omega wanted to have the perception of being the premium casual dress Sports alternative [Music] okay so my worthless little opinion on all of us and Omega Fanboys be gentle with me these are just my off the cuff opinions and thoughts don't take it too seriously but I feel in two minds about this on the one hand I loved the Seamaster is the Gateway in it's popular yay it's awesome but I also think it kind of hurts a Seamaster diver 300 perception when it's cheaper than the aquaterra I don't think the solution is upping the price of the Seamaster 300 to a ludicrous price but maybe bringing the Aqua Terra price down using the aquaterra as an entry point and protecting the brand image of the icon but you know what do I know they've hired far smarter people than me to do these things at Omega so yeah what do I know anyways guys did I miss any really big reasons on why the aquaterra is priced the way it is let me know in those comments down below this was just from me scouring the internet trying to figure out why it costs more so I don't know everything like comment subscribe do all those things to feed the algorithm gods and let's thank the amazing hope to your patrons [Music] oh funky mix yeah thank you patrons thank you to all the pope to patrons thank you especially to newest Pope to your
