this is the omega seamaster aquaterra one of watchmaker omega's most popular watches i have worn the equator almost every day for over a month and in this video i will first explain everything you need to know before buying an aqua terra followed by my experience wearing one and at the end i'm going to talk about the one major flaw most people know but no one really talks about so let's get started i was able to borrow this aquaterra from chronix to test and wear it for you to review cronext is an international online pre-owned watch retailer with over 32 brands and 800 models providing pickup locations and lounges all over the world each watch in their shop is certified and they also have a big november sale planned from the 23rd to the 30th of november offering up to 61 of the rp and on top of that i also have a promo code for you you can use promo code jenny when you're purchasing from chronix to get an extra discount and just for transparency there is no financial kickback for me but you will get to save money on your next purchase okay let's first start with the three things you should definitely be aware of before buying an aquaterra so i think 2017 marks an important point with the aquaterra history and to me aquatures are divided into two different categories the pre-2017 and the post 2017 models the subline of the seamaster family was introduced in 22 but it was in 2017 when omega introduced their caliber 8 800 and 8900 within the aqua terrace with their meta certification which means it not only has to be cosd certified but basically that your watch can hold up an accuracy of zero to plus five seconds per day after being tested in all kinds of ways like exposure to magnetic fields up to 15 000 gauss submersion underwater accuracy in relation to its power reserve whilst being tested in all different positions as well as a date at six o'clock and all that jazz previous to 2017 you have the caliber 8500 and all its additional sub-category calibers and predecessors up to the point of 2002 with the earliest aquaterra's and their eta-based movements that means that you have to be clear on what you want from your equator and sometimes more importantly what you are willing to pay for it so in plain text if a highly anti-magnetic watch with a meta certification is important to you and you're willing to spend more than 4 000 on your watch then you will find what you look for in the post 2017 models going for pre-2017 models means that you have to pass on meta certified calibers or highly anti-magnetic watches but you also have to pay significantly less which i'm going to talk about more in a minute i mean there are some exceptions like the bumblebee which was released in 2013 sporting the caliber 8505 that can also withstand the 15 000 gauss but besides that you have to make do with otherwise solid calibers but no matter certification or specifications in being highly anti-magnetic that means it's not only a look-based decision given all the updates in terms of dial and case and bracelet design the aquaterra has naturally received over the years but also based on your preferences in terms of caliber specs plus some people really take offense at date at 3 o'clock which you can find on models predating the caliber 8 800 and 8900 so it's basically a decision of whether you prefer a date at three or at six o'clock really it was just this week that i discovered that omega has introduced a very cool new feature on the website when you click on a watch you can use this little controller here to see how the watch would look on different wrist sizes which i think is really helpful albeit long overdue which brings us to point number two of what you should be aware of before buying an aquaterra because luckily omega is also giving you different case diameter to choose from though you could technically also look for the 34 millimeters within the ladies collection i'll be focusing on the standard 38 and 41 millimeter versions for this video which is suitable for the majority of arists that are watching this video right now to not be any more confusing with calibers and the numbers i want to point out the two main differences when it comes to case diameter in the latest aqua terra watches if you go for the 41 millimeter case you will get a rather large watch but also a little bit more choice when it comes to dollars in their colors and perhaps more importantly for some the caliber 8900 if you go for the 38 millimeter case you will have a bit less style designs to choose from a smaller case and the caliber 8800 built in so besides the obvious what's the difference well with the caliber 8900 you'll get a 60 hour power reserve a meta certification and a 5 year warranty and a quick hour set function with the caliber 8800 you will get a 55 hour power reserve so five hours less than the 8900 also a matter certified movement as well as a five-year warranty but a quick date set instead of an hourset function those might be minor differences to some but i've also heard about people not buying the 41 millimeter simply because they cannot stand a watch with a date that has no quick set function for that date if you are a millionaire or simply do not care about money at all then well congratulations but if you're like me you probably want to know about prices when it comes to your watches if you fancy the latest aquaterra there's no difference in price for both sizes which is a good or bad thing depending on how you see it so for this silver dial right here you'd have to pay 5 460 euros or 5 700 us dollars if you were to get it straight from an ad whereas pre-owned models are available starting from around 4190 euros on chronix for example that being said you'll be able to find pre-2017 models starting from around 1 500 to around about 2000 depending on a size age and where they come from so in case you don't mind a pre-owned watch and or you don't really attach importance to the experience of buying at an ad you'll be able to save quite a bit of money with the aquaterra okay so now that you know what is out there in terms of models and variations and what you should be aware of before buying one i want to share my two cents with you when it comes to actually wearing aquaterra though i think that omega isn't overly adventurous when it comes to the aquaterra dark colors ooh variations i like that when it comes to these standard colors like blue and black and gray and white or silver you'll find a good amount of watches to choose from like i said you'll get a bit more variation if you look into the bigger case sizes but i'm really happy with this silver dial 38 millimeter version which brings me to one of the pros i've noticed about the aquaterra its simple dial design is in my opinion one of its greatest strengths with this one you get the horizontal teak pattern on a silvery white dial with the typical aquaterra hour markers which look so sharp they could cut you same goes for the hands and depending on the light the hour markers and hands appear almost black which is a very cool contrast to the silvery backdrop as this is the 38 millimeter size with the caliber 8800 i have the date at six o'clock with a quick set function for it and though i really like a data on a watch i can't help but feel that this one sits a bit deep which makes it a bit difficult to read from time to time other than that i've noticed that there wasn't one occasion or outfit where i felt that the aqua terra didn't look good with sometimes i feel that my black bay 58 for example is a bit too sporty or my datejust is a bit too flashy but the silver dial aquaterra really stands out in that department and it really shines in every situation to be honest i was unsure about the size up until the point where i actually tried the watch on though a 38 millimeter diameter doesn't sound overly intimidating to my 150 centimeter of i was a bit unsure about it thanks to omega's case or luck design which is known for increasing the overall appearance of their watches but i am happy to say that it still very much works on my smaller wrist though it's really on the edge i think it gives it a much sportier look on my wrist because of the slightly larger size which balances out the dial to not let it come across as a bit too fancy now that omega introduced their new feature on the website you can see for yourself how this exact aquaterra would look on your wrist which i'm a big fan of as for most watches that tend to look dressy or elegant i would recommend going for a smaller case size i'd only go for a 41 millimeter if i had really big wrists so that the watch face doesn't look too lost on the arm other than that you can also play with colors to make your watch appear bigger or smaller as light colored dowels tend to make watch look bigger whereas darker colors visually kind of a shrinker watch in most cases okay last but not least i want to talk about something i have touched on briefly before remember when i said there's a major problem well i'm talking about the bracelet so let me explain so usually whenever we get a watch to film or simply just buy them for ourselves we never get the bracelet adjusted because a we got the tools at home anyways and b like to do that for ourselves so when i decided to do a review on the aqua terra i didn't even think about the bracelet and so when it arrived at home i was so excited and i thought you know i just sit down and take out a couple of links and then i can put it on right away and start wearing and testing it but boy oh boy was i naive no matter what i did i could not get the screws to move it's like omega has drowned that bad boy and loctite i tried heating the bracelet with water i tried heating it with a hair dryer i tried the wiggle method where you wiggle your screwdriver around and attempt to loosen the screw spot nothing happened nothing besides damaging the screws actually it did take me multiple attempts and over a week before i took it to a watchmaker who did it for me which to be completely honest almost for the watch for me entirely because of it and here's the thing you can let any online seller know that you want to have your bracelet adjusted i'd say that pretty much all of them are happy to do so chronix is obviously offering that a service too i just didn't think of it before that being said i just want you to know that i absolutely 100 recommend telling the seller or whomever you buy your aqua terra from your wrist size so they can adjust the bracelet for you especially if it's a new watch i know it might seem like something minute to some but when something is that expensive you want the entire experience to be as enjoyable as possible so just take that as a heads up from me for you all in all i have to say that this one has real potential to be one of these mystical one watch collection watches given its design and specs and if you're someone who's into unagitated design that's still elegant without looking boring this is really worth looking into that being said if you see yourself on the sporty or more casual side of things you might be better off with wearing this one on a natal strap for example or perhaps look for a different watch completely as the aqua terra leans definitely more towards the fancier side of things in my opinion anyway it seems like the aqua terra really is one of omiga's golden boys it does almost everything right and very little wrong but what are your thoughts on this one ever considered buying one or do you already own one would you say that this is more of a dress watch or is the aqua terra the logical next step when it comes to modern sports watches let me know in the comments down below and as always thank you so much for watching this video today and i will see you in my next one bye
