today's starlink launch marked the end of the first group of starlink satellites but on its ascent there was a spectacular moment as the vehicle went transonic everyone on the ground saw a visible shockwave as it passed through a layer of cirrus clouds you can even see the rocket casting a shadow this reminds me of the solar dynamic observatory launch where it also had visible waves as it passed through a layer of cirrus clouds that phenomena was explained by the rocket shock wave disturbing layers of ice crystals in the atmosphere i'm pretty sure this is a similar phenomena where it's passing through the serous layer at near supersonic speeds and though its shock wave is spreading out disturbing the atmosphere and we can see the change because of the reflection those ice crystals produce maximum aerodynamic pressure that the rocket supersonic
