girlfriend we've been together for about a year and a half almost I'm Australian she's obviously Colombian I'm the case study today I haven't actually seen what she's going to say what was that hopefully it's all hopefully it's all good she's going to talk about the differences she's seen in dating me and Australian as opposed to Colombians four things that Carolina here has outlined big differences that make us foreigners seem more attractive than Colombians is a personal view on this because I I mean every person has this different kind of interest but I would say like this is something that we can see more in women right now Columbia a lot of the videos you've probably seen Girls Just Want Money blah blah blah blah in Medellin especially there's no shortage of women who date anyone as long as they have a constant stream of the green stuff but we're trying to be better than that we're looking for someone who's going to be a good high quality partner without anything more to say I'm going to be quiet and let Carolina hear spit the truth I think the first one and most important one that I see is the traditional gender roles that we still see here in Colombia when dating for example the man is more like the provider is a little bit more possessive expects a lot from women to be like maybe more caring more staying at home taking care of all the things in the house I don't know if you know but most Latinos live with their parents until they get married so maybe they live they leave the house when they're like 29 30 and they're always used to like the mother being the one that is cooking taking care of their clothes and everything and of course if you when you're 30 and you leave the house you're gonna kind of expect that the person that you marry or go to live with or start dating fills up that role that you were used to with your mother okay so that sounds pretty annoying I wouldn't really like to be doing all that stuff for everybody but how does that differ to what you've seen from dating me well we are living together right now everything is half and half we pay everything half and half we organize half and half to take care of your clothes I take care of my clothes like everything is very divided very equilibrated I don't feel that I'm the that you're the one that has to work and bring everything for the house like in the traditional way and I'm not like here waiting a cooking for you like having the the house like clean everything you said summarizes there's really specific gender roles when it comes to Colombian relationships maybe like it was in the 50s in Australia or the us but colombian's still stuck there something I just came to my mind that happened like a couple of years ago I was in a wedding and we were in the church service the priest was there giving a whole speech and he was like girls remember that you always have to be perfectly with your makeup and hair for your husband I was like what like remember to always have the house organized and be perfectly spotless with your hair and your make the priest saying that okay so to summarize that point dating a foreigner is better because we don't have the same expectations from a woman when in a relationship that they need to do this and this and this the relationships are a lot more equal is that right is a lot more equal yeah okay the second thing I think it's things move a little bit too fast and are like too intense here in Colombia since day one they're gonna be taxing you 24 7. hey how are you doing or you want to do today and it's like too much they forget that they're a stranger in your life and talking to you 24 7. there's this kind of entitlement that maybe you're now something or you're starting to be something so you have to answer me or something like that it's good to have initiative and to always be like hey let's go here let's go there and that but also like there's limits like boundaries you don't cross that when you're just a stranger and just meeting someone and like give me time to breathe and to like affectionate well maybe it's like you're just gone two days passionate as well yeah like hey of course but it would be like something more affectionate than Colombians Latinos are much more like passionate affectionate so it's like they go both what have you seen different from daily me yes we maybe talked every day or every two days but it was just like a short message here and there hey I like this hey I like hanging out with you there was enough time for me to like digest everything that was happening we're a lot more chilled in how we approach relationships from the first meeting we take it slower we respect maybe people's space and time whereas colombian's a bit more passionate and intense huh if you're texting 24 7 a woman cannot also read it as like you're being too possessive about about her and like oh where you are who you are with what are you doing it's like I you don't need to know what I'm doing 24 7 like if you trust me you trust me that's it next thing Tides with what we were talking about I think is like this level of possession 24 7 calling you texting you it can be read as like possession like I want to know where you are who you are with I want to be with you 24 7 know what you're doing and like don't leave you any like space to breathe so you're basically saying that with dating me being a foreigner you have a lot more freedom to do what you want without being controlled I wouldn't say freedom I think is just like Trust another big problem is that here cheating is a little bit more normalized there's all this culture of like the Macho culture that has like many women that makes them feel like they have a lot of Pride because they are dating five girls at the same time so I think that's a maybe a good thing about dating someone else like a foreigner where in their culture that's actually seeing us something very bad it's not something that you want to be picture as a cheater I would say that there's less probability to be cheated in a relationship with a foreigner rather than with a Colombian where maybe they have seen that in the Father the uncles their friends around him are always cheating because it's normalized they're gonna also do it because they think they're not gonna have any repercussions about if you want more on cheating guys I actually did a straight interview at a local University with many people in Colombia is basically told us five huge reasons why foreigners May stand out and actually be a more attractive option to date than a local for Colombian women is that all or you have anything else to add today no I actually think we should address the mistakes that foreigners are making there's mistakes yeah of course you never told me about this before no it's just areas of improvement I would say yeah yeah okay okay yeah I think like many people are going to benefit from this if you don't let me have it okay the one thing I would say is affection the level of affection foreigners tend to be more like detached and maybe don't not that expressive I feel like that's a thing that you have to learn to do here girls need to have like a little bit more feedback of where you're feeling many times like foreigners are just like too stiff and Latinos as I explained before are more fiery are more passionate they want to talk they want to know how you're feeling what happened in your day so more feedback more back and forth with talking and feeling and emotion also like another thing I would say is like when you go outside in the streets people are like touching kissing holding hands is very normal we don't have any problems with PDA here and that was one thing that uh I would say like shocked me as at first when I was when I moved to the states it was like PDA there was like a thing like it never happened it was there was an issue with that you know like you're not supposed to hold hands outside or like be kissing your partner or whatever and here in Colombia is like very normal so don't be afraid of like holding hands and like being affectionate even outside because we don't care everyone does it please just like eliminate the flip-flops of your closet once you step in made in Colombia if you're in the beach it's okay if you're in Bogota Meiji in Cali somewhere that doesn't have a beach throw it to the trash can it's not a thing not even if you're grocery shopping the other day we went to the supermarket you were like don't do this again flip floss and shorts like that's another thing like guys don't wear shorts in the city you wear shorts and flip-flops in the beach that's it where shoes and jeans pants or jeans if you notice she's making an effort to look nice because girls here use a lot of makeup they do their hair they wanna look attractive for you do the same because you don't want to go out with someone that is wearing flip-flops on the first date flip-flops and shorts are not attractive you're telling me that first time I heard this I tell you that much he didn't use flip-flops like for the first year so until I said I love you then that's good yeah so make them love you first and you can do whatever you want anything else that we that you've seen from me or from other foreigners some mistakes that they they might make or things just wobbling on the dance floor that's it but here it's very different right dancing is very because when we go out to a club or to a bar we want to meet people an excellent way to meet someone is ask her to dance with you and then you start a conversation while you're dancing that's why dancing is so important because it's it's kind of more social okay it's how you expand your group okay so those are the big mistakes that a lot of foreigners are doing that maybe they can improve who really another one yeah Columbus want to be communicative and keep telling you what they're feeling in the moment so learn Spanish if you don't have words you know that's true that's true on top of that it's going to give you access to some dating so many more girls the vast percentage of women that you're
