the clouds you get it mayun his name you see he was silenced and basically then forced into retirement many of his assets and his business seized and taken control of by the communist party of china now you might want jeff bezos to go to jail or send him to space to never return seriously there's a petition right now to not allow jeff bezos to return to earth after he launches into space but anyway in china the government takes care of that for you i know it's popular to hate on billionaires but in china it's not the people that hate the billionaires they're actually quite the source of inspiration it's the government the government is absolutely petrified at the power that these ceos can wield and so they do what they do best the communist party of china wields its all-powerful might and throws them in jail kills them disappears them or just takes away everything that they've built you see xi jinping the leader of china in 2012 launched china's most far-reaching anti-corruption campaign of all time it was aimed at tigers and flies meaning from high level to low level anyone can be in the crosshairs of the chinese communist party if you are dealing in corruption but the ones that you hear about are high level you know the billionaires the officials so far 326 000 people have been nabbed in the hunt for tigers and flies since 2012. if you think about it do you really believe this is about corruption no this is called consolidating corruption is how china operates it's always been like that it's about guanxi or connections it has been like that throughout all of the dynasties people like to think of post 1949 china you know communist china as the new china the current china in fact in china they even refer to china post 1949 the current leadership as new china there's a famous song that goes mayo which means if there was no communist party there would be no new china and the theory or at least what is taught is that the new china is vastly different than the old china which was ruled by corrupt dynasties people justify mao's dictatorship and his leadership and his atrocities and the killing of tens of millions of people within china they justify him because he brought about new china and got rid of that old dynastical style that's ancient history the thing is it is a dynasty the chinese communist party is literally a dynasty it hasn't changed one bit it's just not cold one xi jinping the current leader of china is a dynastical leader he is a princeling born out of nepotism same as an emperor he is an emperor label china all you want whatever you want but china is still very much a corrupt dynasty corruption never left china in fact i would argue corruption has become so much a part of how china operates that it is so deeply rooted into society that if you removed it completely it would send the country into chaos the ccp hasn't removed corruption in the slightest in fact under xi jinping's anti-corruption campaign it's only bolstered those who have tight connections in other words the truly corrupt i remember when this campaign was unleashed i was living in china the officials quivered the populace was happy these corrupt local officials that stole funds to buy houses and send their children abroad and buy all these luxury goods for all their mistresses and other things that technically belong to the people you know all these stolen assets and funding they had a welcome target on their backs i remember the elation when the campaign started it made xi jinping very popular in china ccp officials started hiding their watches so just in case people were taking photos of them they didn't want to be nabbed for corruption they started hiding their assets so as not to be targeted but to the disappointment of many many people the people that were actually targeted by the anti-corruption campaign were not the officials that were making local life miserable for people but in fact the people that were targeted were xi jinping's adversaries it was nothing more than a power grab like i said consolidation so if this is the case then why did these billionaires keep getting nabbed and jailed and disappeared and killed and more aren't they powerful enough to avoid scrutiny jack ma was a party member for mouse sake well here's the deal there's a threshold there is a big difference in billionaires in the rest of the world versus billionaires in china in many ways it's still that dynastical corruption that allows amassing of this type of power the power of these connections do have a limit however the ultimate power being the chinese government when one approaches those upper limits they are flying too close to the sun and the government needs to cut them down to size so to speak china's legal culture thrives on the principle of killing the chicken to scare the monkeys or as we say in chinese you see these billionaires and the capitalism in general is warmly welcomed in china you know why because it delivers the promises of what the supposedly socialist government tells its citizens the chinese government says we've brought you out of poverty it was us without the ccp there would be nothing we built all of the infrastructure and we've given you the money to buy things it's a privilege when in fact in reality it was just business and capitalism that allowed all of this to happen it's just chinese people being hard-working chinese people participating in a market-based system the chinese government offers nearly nothing to its citizens from a socialist perspective yet it needs to claim every single benefit that the citizens receive from the free market how else do you justify being a brutal authoritarian regime you have to convince the people that this authoritarian regime is necessary in order for the people to make money so when billionaires come in and show the populace hey it's not really the government that's making us rich it's not the ccp it's the free market or at least a weird version of the free market then the government has to step in and correct these wealthy inspirational leaders you see there is no leader but the ccp there is no wealth without the ccp and there is no life without the ccp well that's what they want you to believe when china makes examples of these billionaires it's not to inspire people to be moral incorruptable good samaritans they're not saying yes we arrested this corrupt billionaire because we want you to be a good person no it's to show them that if you try too hard and you do anything to challenge the leadership of the ccp and its emperor you will be destroyed its purpose is to create a nation of apathetic sheep who have no ambition to challenge the norm or become bigger than what is allowed always remember that the father of the chinese dream xi jinping said that the dream is to be moderately prosperous now while that sounds fairly reasonable what kind of dream is that the dream of the chinese government is the slavery and servitude of its people to the state and it's trying to export that model to you and your country let's not let that happen [Music] you
