who won the 1999 axiom's best year contest it had to be Colin I don't know if I won that best trick contest I never got a medal for that I don't know if Tony ever got a mail for that it's actually funny to me as I say this that we haven't ever discussed that with each other [Applause] for a moments but this has really become a personal quest for Tony Hawk are we talking about who won the 1999 X Games best trick That's Tony Tony Hawk one that was the first best Straight contest at X Games and Tony Hawk won it with the 900. I'm pretty sure Colin McKay should have won best trick but I think Tony won best trick you know in the contest the way it works is you get 20 minutes to do your best trip I know that I won the 20 minutes Tony did his trick and and things changed I don't know who won I didn't win in the in the format that was given so from my eyes it was calling didn't he do back tail big spin in dude going into it there wasn't great expectation but then all of a sudden people started nailing stuff and they were nbds and it was like oh this is something special like there's something in the air here Colin kind of Set It Off you know Colin was just like oh backside tail side big spin out what else did he do front side Caballero kickflip if it was any other sport it would have been like up time's up Colin here's your gold medal that's it that night was special like there were tricks going down that had never been done before it was Unreal it was hands down like the best probably the best 20-minute session I had ever had in my life X Games is doing an interview with me on the platform like you won and meanwhile Tony is trying the 900 and Duncan is hyping him up like go go and I'm like do it like of course I want to see do it and I'm I'm super happy I just want to won the contest and then he did it and I don't know what happened I think they lost my interview I was hurt nothing to do with Tony zero to do with Tony at X Games I was for sure looking to win that contest yeah I'm pretty sure Tony won I've done tricks one try after time and they don't give it to me but it wasn't a 900 I guess Tony Hawk I still won looking back on the situation had I won no one would remember so just playing a little par in the 900 night is it means more to me than anything else and if he didn't I want the metal like if he says no idea if he has it great you won if they didn't give him a medal I'm calling someone I think they they gave it to me I have a medal that says I won but I guess I was the honorary winner should I go get my medal and give it to Colin I had never beat Tony in a contest the contest I won Tony was an atom or whatever and then like this contest for me was a big deal you know and the fact that Tony was it was a big deal for me well that makes me feel bad now when that happened like understandably this is such an incredible trick and the the the story behind it and everything was beautifully set up I'm curious to know what he says would you have tried the 900 that night if I didn't skate the way I did would you have gone on to do the 900 after that night if you didn't do it right there he never put me in the game I could have at least been a special character maybe in a best trick contest or something behind the warehouse but no for real the fact that Tony did that and like this takes years to come to this realization you know the fact that Tony did that was so much bigger than anything like if I would have just won this contest so just to be a little part of that is incredibly special to me at this point yeah I mean they I guess they gave me the medal and that's not I want I just thought they might have made an extra one I don't want to be a ring [ __ ] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] well no one's done any of my tricks from that night I just can't
