[Music] yeah hi these are my new friends in san francisco christina justin and these are my two new friends oh it's always in pairs today huh so which one would i pick concert is on sunday today is wednesday i just flew in from new york a few hours ago so this will be an interesting selection vlog it's my favorite type of video to make one of my favorite things to do is selecting pianos but to do it while jet lag and kind of in a food coma somewhat of a sleep deprivation because i woke up at 4 30 this morning this will be interesting my ears work my eyes don't [Music] and the one really the left is new york yeah i was like [Music] i came and played the first note [Music] is that beethoven yeah [Music] i don't think i've ever laughed as much filming a stymang video thank you i told you i appreciate it [Music] it's very obvious what the difference is very very obvious [Music] do do [Music] i just wonder how sound travels yeah because this one is so bright [Music] [Music] so [Music] yeah i mean what i'm most concerned is how the sound would travel to the hall because there's some that will just make this less bright and have more middle just with the acoustics construction but [Music] do [Music] i am going to take a quick break new york hamburg very quintessential new york and very quintessential handbook but i've also played on hamburg's and new york's that are a lot closer in nature but these two just happen to be quite bipolar i'm curious about the hamburg because i wonder if i can achieve a certain intimacy with that outspoken nature i want to challenge myself otherwise this one feels more home in a way but it's not supposed to be a home thing it's a concert and a bigger hole in my home so i wonder if i can achieve something new i have never selected a piano in the state of mind i am so jealous right now and it's not like i went to europe okay oh beethoven is watching me play many many wrong notes today i'm very sorry i'm very sorry [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] i like a challenge so i'm trying to solve a puzzle right now this hamburg has a much brighter register than this new york one here but just because it might be difficult to control compared to this one i don't want to rule it out for that reason so i want to try and discover as many tones okay i can say this the main criteria here or the main consideration is which one has more tones that i can produce of course people have different ways of producing tones but which one can i get the most out of because i'm really into that lately trying to discover very very very different tones in pianos or i could just make my job easier and go with the easier one but don't want to do that [Music] [Music] all right [Music] [Music] um okay i think i know which one i'm going to pick and the reason for this is purely a circumstantial so lately i've been in a phase where i want to give myself a challenge into finding as many tones as possible for some this might not be what they're looking for they might want a very like a security blanket in a way like this piano is beautiful on its own in a smaller intimate setting and since i'm playing in a concert hall i mean i'm not playing a gigantic one but it still i think could benefit from one that has a lot of outspoken nature and character which causes i think please don't quote me as a scientist or anything but just has a lot more overtones which means when i play a note because there's a lot more going on i can play around with those in betweenness a lot more than i can just because i would be in a bigger space i wonder if that makes sense but yeah i'm gonna tell them that i think i've made my choice even though this is the more difficult one i just think especially with schumann's david bunder tanza there's a lot of opportunities to play with imagination and with colors in the overtones that i think might be fun to play on that one this one i might pick for like a recording or a smaller space granted i have not been to herbst theater but seating wise and just i think i i want the hamburg one just because of this particular setting if i were playing just more intimate like all chopin pieces for example this might be the one to go but because i do have some sparkly skull lattes in the beginning and then also the wildness of the schumann i think it might be more fun and i might even learn a lot from this experience of playing on this one more so end of this dating game [Music] my ideal goal is like to make the piano such that you don't even have to worry about it you just get what you want out of it but i also think no i i think as a pianist it's more for me at least i i don't want to come with a set of things i need it's also kind of like the piano tells me things that i didn't think of and that's that's so cool that gets me to find new ways of expressing the same thing because i think it's just kind of boring if i'm like i need to have exactly this and every time i go to a piano i have to have exactly this and know more no less then it's like not so interesting at least for me i really love that take on that but i think it's it's uh it's up to individuals because sometimes people are like ah they really want that very thing and then they get really annoyed when they don't get it yeah and then they get stuck there yeah which sometimes i do have that mindset of like uh i i i'm missing that but then i would be losing out on what it does have right yeah [Music] well i mean i don't know maybe in 10 years i'll be that maybe i've come to a point where you're like i'm done experimenting yeah i know everything that's out there but i don't know i i that's why i like playing on different instruments every time because i get to experience new ways that i would not get when i'm by myself and the same environment [Music] [Applause] you
