when it comes to must-have power tools a sawzall at least in my opinion comes out near the top of the list today we'll be testing eight different sawzalls including one knockoff that only costs thirty dollars so the question is can that thirty dollar cordless sawzall beat the two hundred dollar one well let's find out in the first test we'll see which brand is fastest at cutting through a four by four then we'll see which brand can cut to one inch pipe the fastest we'll also see which one can go through half inch steel the fastest finally we'll see if cordless reciprocating saws are actually faster than corded saws at a price of only thirty dollars for just the sawzall and not the battery or the charger the least expensive brand we'll be testing is made by heimerdinger i'm having a hard time saying this name so i'm just gonna call it the humdinger the humdinger is a makita knockoff and in order to use this tool you have to use a makita battery i'll be using a 4 amp hour battery on all the brands except for the bauer brand the barrel brand does not make a 4 amp hour battery so i'll be using a 3 amp hour battery with humdinger it's all or nothing there's no variable speed trigger the hum dinger does have a brushed motor the humdinger is made in china zero to three thousand spm with the battery installed the humdinger weighs 5 pounds or 2.3 kilograms with the battery in place the humdinger is about 15 and a half inches in length the sound meter will be placed 24 inches from the tool and i'll be lifting the tool off the table just to make sure there's no vibration that interferes with the test 91 decibels for the hum dinger i have to admit i'm pretty impressed for only 30 dollars a cordless sawzall the second least expensive brand we'll be testing at only 54. is made by heart powerful cutting through a variety of materials we're going to test that the heart is a 20 volt system limited 3-year warranty 0-3 000 spm the stroke length is 7 8 of an inch the heart is made in china the heart brand uses a brushed motor and does have a variable speed trigger the heart also weighs 5 pounds or 2.3 kilograms the heart brand is an inch longer than the humdinger at 16 and a half inches 90 decibels for the heart at a price of only 60 dollars for just the tool is this bauer brand just like the humdinger in the heart the bauer has a no load speed rating of 3 000 spm 25 faster cuts we're going to test that the stroke length is 1 1 8 inch variable speed trigger with lock on the barrel brand is made in china the bower uses a brushed motor the bar is quite a bit heavier than the humdinger in the heart at 7.8 pounds or 3.5 kilograms the bar is over an inch longer than the heart at 17 and three quarters of an inch the bar is quite a bit louder than the humdinger in the heart at 98 decibels at a price of only 84 dollars for just the tool and not the battery and charger is this ryubi brand the ryobi uses a brushless motor the stroke length is 7 8 of an inch strokes per minute 3300 theroby is made in china the roby does have a variable speed trigger their obi which uses a brushless motor is 5.8 pounds or 2.6 kilograms the ryobi is slightly longer than the heart at 16 and a quarter inches the ryobi is the quietest yet at only 86 decibels i'll be testing two different makita reciprocating saws the first one be testing is priced at 119 for just the saw and not the battery in the charger three-year warranty up to 2800 strokes per minute one and a quarter inch stroke length the makita is made in china the makita with the brush motor is the heaviest yet at 8.4 pounds or 3.7 kilograms the makita with the brush motor is the longest tool yet at 19 inches the makita is the second quietest yet at 87 decibels at a price of 179 dollars for just the tool and not the battery in the charger is this dewalt brand the dewalt uses a brushless motor dewalt comes with a three-year warranty zero to three thousand strokes per minute the stroke length is an inch and an eighth the dewalt is made in china the dewalt is the heaviest yet at 9.2 pounds or 4.2 kilograms the dewalt is the same length as the bower at 17 and three-quarters of an inch 90 decibels for the dewalt at a price of 180 for just the saw and not the battery and charger is this milwaukee m18 fuel cuts faster than corded up to two times more run time up to five times longer tool life the stroke length is an inch and an eighth three thousand strokes per minute the milwaukee is made in china the milwaukee includes a five year warranty the milwaukee is slightly lighter than the dewalt at nine pounds or 4.1 kilograms the milwaukee is slightly longer than the dewalt at 18 inches the milwaukee is the second loudest yet at 97 decibels at a price of 200 for just the tool and not the battery and charger the most expensive brand we'll be testing is made by makita brushless motor the makita has a two-speed motor up to 2 300 strokes per minute and low and up to 3 000 strokes per minute and high the stroke length is an inch and a quarter three year warranty the makita is made in china the makita with the brushless motor weighs 8.6 pounds or 3.9 kilograms at 17 inches the makita with the brushless motor is about two inches shorter than the makita with the brushed motor 90 decibels for the makita so the makita with the brushless motor is louder than the one with the brushed motor if two weight is a deciding factor the humdinger and the heart are the lightest at five pounds ryobi 5.8 bower 7.8 and the makita with the brush motor 8.4 pounds the robi is the quietest tool at 86 decibels makita with the brush motor 87 heart dewalt makita brushless 90 decibels since reflective tape on the blade will pass across the laser twice during each stroke we'll have to divide the number on the laser counter by two to calculate the strokes per minute with the fully charged battery the humdinger made 2 860 strokes per minute which is 140 short of its 3 000 rating the heart brand produced 2 925 strokes per minute which is 75 short of its 3 000 rating the barrier performed about the same as the heart at 2 925 roby is supposed to deliver 3 300 strokes per minute but actually did better than advertised at three thousand three hundred and seventy five the makita with the brush motor was the slowest yet at only two thousand five hundred and fifty strokes per minute that's two hundred fifty short of its two thousand eight hundred rating the dewalt is supposed to make three thousand strokes per minute and actually produced a little bit over its rating the milwaukee is also supposed to produce 3 000 strokes per minute and actually did a little bit over 3 000 just like the dewalt the brushless makita is 225 strokes per minute short of meeting its 3 000 rating changing the blade is a two-handed task for most of the brand since the blade clamp lever has to be held in the open position while the blade is installed however the makita setup does allow for one-handed blade changes since the blade clamp lever remains in the unlocked position until the blade is installed it also ejects the blade which is a nice feature especially when dealing with a broken or hot blade in the first test we'll be using the milwaukee axe to cut through a 4x4 that has four embedded nails each saw get a new blade for the test to help each of the blades get started i'll be using two nails to serve as a guide to start the cut i'll be adding 10 pounds of weight connected by wire to the shoe of the saws we'll make three passes through the 4x4 beginning with the humdinger the milwaukee axe is a very aggressive blade and cutting through the nail embedded 4x4 is really making the hum digger heat up quickly 14.9 seconds on the first pass the humdinger was really running hot and began to slow down quite a bit on the second pass at 23.5 seconds the humdinger was really smelling hot on the third pass and took even longer at 28.3 seconds so 14.9 seconds is the time to beat and the very aggressive milwaukee axe blade really made the heart brand struggle on the first cut at 22 seconds the heart brand is slightly better in the second cut at 20 seconds which isn't nearly fast enough to beat the humdinger the heart was slightly slower on the third pass at 21.1 seconds so the humdigger holds on to the lead testing the bauer brand and the bower did better than the humdinger and the heart on the first pass at 12.2 seconds it did slightly better in the second pass at 12.1 seconds it did slightly better in the third pass at 11.9 seconds so very consistent results for the bauer testing to ryobi and the robo was nearly as fast as the bower at 12.4 seconds on the first pass the ryobi did even better at 11.8 seconds on the second pass and takes away the lead from the bower brand the roby once again needed 11.8 seconds on the third pass so 11.8 seconds is the time to beat testing the makita with the brushed motor and the makita is handling the aggressive saw blade much better than the other brands making the first cut in only 9.2 seconds the makita is a little bit slower on the second cut at 11.2 seconds the third cut was a little faster at 10.5 seconds so the makita's 9.2 seconds is the time to beat testing the dewalt and the dewalt is making this look way too easy and the motor doesn't even seem to be struggling at all with a seven second time so dewalt moves into the lead dewalt did nearly as well in the second pass with a 7.1 second time and the dewalt was slightly slower and a third pass at 7.3 seconds so 7 seconds is the time to beat testing milwaukee just like the dewalt the milwaukee is making this look way too easy but isn't quite as fast at 8.6 seconds on the first pass the milwaukee was slightly faster on a second pass at 8.3 seconds and the milwaukee made his fastest cut yet on the third pass at 7.5 seconds so dewalt holds on to the lead testing the makita with the brushless motor and the makita is doing very well in this test but not quite fast enough to take the lead from dewalt with a 7.9 second finish and the makita was slightly slower on a second pass at 8.65 seconds the makita did just about the same in a third pass at 8.8 seconds so dewalt holds on to the lead i've had milwaukee corded sawzall for several years so let's test it out to see how it compares to the cordless and the court of milwaukee just about logged the fastest time yet at 7.4 seconds moving into the second position behind the wall and the milwaukee was even faster in the second pass at 7.3 seconds the third pass took the same amount of time as the first pass at 7.4 seconds so the dewalt came in on top at 7.1 seconds but the milwaukee corded saw was a close second at 7.4 milwaukee 8.1 and makita brushless 8.5 seconds i'll be using these linux 18 tpi blades for the next test and the next test will be cutting through some 1 inch steel pipe all the batteries are fully charged so let's go ahead and test the humdinger the metal pipe isn't requiring nearly as much power as the 4x4 compared to the 4x4 the humdinger is doing a much better job at maintaining good blade speed 12.1 seconds on the first pass and the humdinger wasn't quite as fast on the second pass at 14.7 seconds the third pass was slightly faster at 13.9 seconds so 12.1 seconds is the time to beat and the heart seems to be struggling a little bit with blade speed and needed 14.2 seconds on the first pass the heart was a little bit slower on the second pass in 19.1 seconds and a third pass was the slowest yet at 19.7 seconds so the humdinger holds on to the lead with a 12.1 second finish testing the bower and the barrow made quick work of the first cut at 8.3 seconds taking the lead from the humdinger and the barrow wasn't nearly as fast on the second pass at 10.4 seconds and the bower was slightly slower again on the third pass at 10.9 seconds so 8.3 seconds is the time to beat and the high revving brushless motor on the robe had more than enough blade speed to move into the lead with an eight second time on the first pass the second pass was nearly as fast at 8.6 seconds the third pass was nearly the same as the second at 8.9 seconds so eight seconds is the time to beat testing the makita with the brushed motor and the makita just doesn't make very good blade speed and needed 9.7 seconds on the first pass the makita was slightly faster in a second pass in 9.1 seconds and the makita is slightly slower at 9.7 seconds on the third pass so very consistent results with the makita testing dewalt and the dewalt blasted through the metal pipe in only 4.55 seconds taking the lead from ryobi the dewalt was nearly as fast in the second pass at 5.4 seconds very impressive and the dewalt made very quick work of the pipe on the third pass at 5.57 seconds so 4.55 seconds is the time to beat and the milwaukee blasted through the metal pipe nearly as fast as the dewalt at 5.77 seconds on the first pass and the milwaukee needed the same amount of time 5.77 seconds on the second pass and milwaukee made his fastest cut yet at 5.1 seconds on a third pass so dewalt holds on to the lead testing the brushless makita the brushless makita made very quick work of the pipe at 5.16 seconds on the first pass the makita was slightly slower on the second pass at 5.42 seconds the makita needed a fraction of a second longer on a third pass at 5.87 seconds so the dewalt holds on to the lead testing the corded milwaukee and milwaukee did very well in the first pass at 6.49 seconds which is enough to move into the fourth position milwaukee did nearly as well on the second pass at 7.1 seconds and milwaukee did slightly better in a third pass at 6.54 seconds so the top three brands the dewalt the brushless makita as well as milwaukee finished less than a half a second apart the quarter milwaukee 6.7 and ryobi 8.5 seconds in the next test we'll see how each brand performs cutting through a half inch by three inch piece of mild steel to test each of the brands i'll be using a diablo carbide tooth blade all the batteries are fully charged so let's test the humdinger and the diablo blade takes a lot of power to pull the blade across the half inch steel and the humdinger really struggled 95 seconds for the humdinger i allowed the metal to cool down between testing each of the brands testing the heart and the heart did quite a bit better was able to maintain pretty good blade speed finishing the cut in 48.2 seconds testing the bower and the barrel lost a little bit of blade speed but the saw seems to vibrate a lot more than the other brands 61.6 seconds for the barra brand testing ryobi and nairobi did a great job with blade speed and didn't seem to vibrate nearly as much as the bauer narobi moves into the lead with a 42.9 second finish testing the makita with the brushed motor and the makita cuts very smoothly but just doesn't have nearly as much blade speed as some of the other brands 59.9 seconds for the makita so ryobi holds on to the lead testing the dewalt just like the robe the dewalt is a very smooth saw and has great blade speed and the dewalt takes away the lead from ryobi with a 25.7 second finish testing milwaukee the milwaukee is a very fast saw but not quite as fast as the dewalt at 30.4 seconds testing the brushless makita and the makita is a very smooth saw but just doesn't have as much blade speed compared to the dewalt or the milwaukee 41.4 seconds for the makita testing the corded milwaukee and the court of milwaukee has great blade speed and is making the cut very fast and the milwaukee finishes the cut at 27.6 seconds to move into the second position behind dewalt so the dewalt came in on top but the court of milwaukee was nearly as fast at 27.6 seconds milwaukee brussels 30.4 brussels makita 41.4 and the robbie 42.9 it definitely seems like the dewalt won the showdown however the makita as well as the milwaukee weren't that far behind i'm also very impressed with the ryobi especially for a budget tool it definitely seems like a good option all the videos on this channel including this one are viewers suggested so please let me know if you'd like to see a round two video on sawzalls as well as other ideas thanks so much for watching please take care and look forward to next time
