The video does point out some flaws in how NHTSA does safety rating, but it miss the point on why the Mitsubishi Mirage has the most deaths. The Mirage has a good safety in IIHS, Euro NCAP and ANCAP that is on par with the NHTSA. It's a true 4/5 star vehicles.
The the Mirage has a higher accidents and fatality rating because of the demographic that drive them, younger and poorer people. The Jeep Wrangler always had poor safety rating yet it has a lower fatality rating then the Murano that exceeds in safety tests. Why do supersport motorcycles have a higher accident rate then other motorcycles classes even though they all don't follow any safety standards. The driver is the cause of accidents not the vehicle, making a correlation between the safety rating and accidents is flawed.
I don't agree with the idea that they should be crash-testing based on average size of vehicles. That would lead to size race.

The race for weight is a problem, but it seems unsolvable. At the same time, it's bad for everyone, since it drives up fuel costs.
