safety maybe i i'm almost certain that what we're gonna do is pretty safe but we're gonna explore some of the basic versions of fire extinguishers and and i don't know test it on specifically what kind of fire you got a b c and d there's some uh i think there's even like a k there's a q well that's only found uh on star trek yeah off the rim of the seides nebula you can see the q-type fires let's go through it so so a-type fires is like uh what's in your fireplace yeah but they rush wood that kind of thing i didn't do that on purpose i didn't do that on first i don't believe you i really didn't a-type fires are what you think of as a traditional fireplace fire this is something with a lot of mass that's very very hot something that can go out you can go to bed and wake up the next morning and it's still smoldering and you throw some pine needles on it and suddenly it bursts up again right so i assume that all of these are going to be for chemical fires which is what beep bee type b classifier since we're using gasoline right that's a class b fire chemical fires are a little bit different because yes they are uh oftentimes hydrocarbons they're burning very very hot but the moment they lose oxygen back to our fire eating lesson i mean that's the reason you're able to do fire eating is because the moment the oxygen is gone suddenly you're back to you know room temperature right sea is electrical fire electrical fires yes exactly how does an electrical fire how is it different i don't know is it like a sparking wire or something i know that my wife's art studio burned down because of an electrical fire uh i guess uh between the lubricants of the fan that was going or something uh like basically energy was actively accelerating everything and that changes the rules because for example back in like the 1950s usually the fire extinguishers they had they just sprayed water on stuff you would not want to do that if there's electricity running through stuff oh right right so so that's a separate class d fires i hadn't heard of before but i assume basically what thermite that's what it sounds like it's magnesium and titanium and sodium chemical reactions that are uncontrolled and going crazy nutty yeah and i was right there is a k-class fire it's animal fats no yes no yeah like fats and greases it's kitchen type stuff cooking cooking fires that'll be the final episode of our series before we set a wildebeest on fire i meant ourselves but that's fine okay god think of the hits self-immolation all right so we're gonna try a few off-the-shelf varieties we're gonna do a chemical fire for each of these uh we're gonna try to keep things relatively science adjacent by using the same amount of fuel each time so about a gallon of unleaded don't don't don't mess with gasoline nobody do this at home my goodness it's so dangerous so dangerous yeah and do it in an area where there's not a lot of stuff wait no you just said don't do it yeah yeah yeah what what if you do it no make sure to just bleep all of that nobody heard none of that which one do we do in first dry dry chemical right on ammonium phosphate powder okay i have a confession you know when i found out that there were different types of fire extinguishers go on it was about a year ago when you told me there were different types of fire extinguishers i'm actually proud of you that is totally true that means you were listening i was listening so in this case you'll notice that they have this little thing where it says it's rated for a b and c so wood trash paper liquids and electrical equipment this one relies on mono ammonium phosphate really i assume that's what somebody said over my shoulder so i'm going to assume this will be the most effective i assume it'll work really well okay hypothetically i was doing a magic show [Laughter] here we go and hypothetically maybe a bit of a chemical fire got out of control oh and maybe hypothetically somebody used a dry chemical extinguisher to put out the fire oh my fire went away show was over because it filled the entire space with a big cloud of caustic everybody's coughing and choking they had to call everything off that's why co2 extinguishers are in my contract if i'm going to do the fire rating there will be a co2 fire extinguisher because that's the one where it's like if if a fire gets out of control you go shh and it looks like like you're doing a gag or something this one's gonna work it's gonna be a bit cloudy here all right let's do it i'm excited all right all right tk421 uh please put a gallon of gas everywhere i'm not entirely sure i've ever discharged a fire extinguisher really i'm not sure there are instructions what you want to do is aim at the base like you start low and work your way up okay oh so we're not we're not going to fill the whole thing he laughed we're going to start small okay all right all right so here you light up one of these sparklers toss it in there and all try to be a hero okay see i always thought that you just pulled the pin and threw it into the fire no you did not please tell me this is not go that's not true all right but it's pretty cool all right yeah i don't think that's gonna be much of a fire go for it all right no no don't get close just over here yeah yeah see all right i yank the pin that's not much at all right oh whoa oh oh well that's surprising [Applause] i didn't exp oh yeah oh you know what he is yeah so so this is a weird mixture we had a chemical fire but we had the re-ignition this was the same thing that we tested when we when we blew up the the propane tank with the shotgun oh right yeah we had to put sparklers next to it so that the moment it exploded we had a chemical fire that was pregnant and ready to be exploded on nice okay i i didn't expect it to be all weird and yellowy uh i imagine that if you're inside that yeah that cloud is terrible what the cloud of the spray no the fire would be terrible oh the fire's bad too but the spray of stuff is at this point how safe do you think that is if if we toss in another sparkler i'll i'll bet you five dollars it goes right back up oh yeah well i think i see a little bit of a sheen of gasoline yeah there you go also you're we're much farther back than i would have thought see same thing right like like as long as that uh that that d fire is going it's just going to keep reigniting and now you're out you're actually in more trouble because because you didn't wait wild yeah that oh and it's just empty yeah these don't last at all yeah now you might as well just throw it over there don't don't don't don't do it every so often like i say words and i was like whoops do you want to try the fire blanket fire blanket go to sleep little fire you will dream of oblivion okay so here's the thing you're going to think it's out you're going to want to lift it and if you do it'll start up again you got to let it go all the way out okay right what are okay so right now would you feel safe i would totally feel safe okay very carefully lift it and there's a good chance it'll start again oh can i just tell you what did i just tell you right that's all right whoa right cool i mean i'm kind of happy that was all that was terrible it was bad frightening yeah also exactly what i predicted okay it really looks safe okay all right little fire it really looks like it's out what are these made of these blankets magic yeah um no no no no see it tricked me see it tricked me i just was touching the tag and then it was like i gotcha you can kind of see no right well i don't like that at all i feel like i feel threatened i feel vaguely threatened like it's doing it intentionally i mean don't get me wrong it's like it's it's better than it was but okay how about now you're going to lose a beard oh i did put my flame retardant beard wax in today just it's a little i'm going to let you do it i'm going to let you do it you got it did it did it happen ah we're good okay that was exciting to lose a beard i love that that was the worst outcome yeah cory could use to describe what's gonna happen gonna go to the emergency awful man you're gonna lose a beard everyone's gonna laugh at you now we're at the tricky spot where what we want to do is refuel everything but we know we have hot possibly ignitable heat i mean we just we just watched what happens but okay so like we could be setting up the experiment again and then boom like like like we we sit in cory and he's pouring and then suddenly we're a youtube video and we don't want to be on youtube well i don't see the problem with sitting cory and i'm going to make sure it's all cool the show will still that's it's fine it's fine okay it's warm it's dry be careful baking soda so at this point we're resetting for essentially the same experiment the only thing different is that this was the other way sodium bicarbonate which i think is just baked bacon baking soda yeah yeah okay just see that was smart i like i like the way you did a little and then lean okay now this is usually used for what type of fire well this says just b and c class oh okay think of it this way a campfire is not just logs that are on fire it's also a reservoir of an awful lot of heat yeah that stays as we talked about overnight right this seems like it'll only work when there's no reservoir of heat i gotcha okay yeah uh yeah ready whoops it crumbled the powder crumbled around the here i'm gonna light this piece of wood okay oh wait that is not approved for wood oh that's right yeah well i don't know let's test it why not nope i missed uh oh a script right yeah yep and then yep yep hold on any second any second any second now and go and we are go for flame yep yep yep and go for flame and we are go for flame and flame in three two there and no no maybe yes and go for flame it's gonna be all paper burning and it's like it's literally the one thing it's not rated for oh yeah this thing uh uh just everyone's burning down the orphans they're saying help us please i'll be getting closer closer yeah okay from the bottom work your way up [Applause] [Music] okay oh i don't trust it yeah that's just baking soda we did that live yeah we did on stage it was awesome still definitely gasoline in there see there it is right yeah so this is why it's not an a-class because if if there's a heat reservoir if there's wood it'll just start up again b and c liquids and electric i will note that this one worked much faster yeah than the other one right i i don't know i thought the other one worked better really yeah that's kind of wild co2 every so often there's a moment where you find yourself in a position to actually test a thing that you've said for 20 years straight i've always said co2 fire extinguishers are the best for any kind of fire eating situation because they're cold they will reduce the heat oh sure they will eliminate the oxygen they will put out a chemical fire i've never been in a position to actually test it oh really so i think it should be a lot of fire a lot of fire i'm in okay i don't know what that means i don't know what a lot means but i like it it's a lot of fire it's one of my favorites cory glory how much is a lot just give me a big old half moon like like the opening of lethal weapon three or or or the dark knight or something can you write do the dd from that ben affleck daredevil movie yeah yeah or the crow make the shape of a crow oh do the crowd do the crow no he died oh that's yeah that's a lot okay uh okay that's kind of crow like i'm into it okay let's uh all right good job corey fun fact the thing about co2 fire extinguishers is uh there's not a pressure gauge so it's only by weight that i'm pretty sure this is full okay so these are the same things though no wait i thought you said this was oh this is sodium bicarbonate that's right that's these two okay so here's the difference that one you saw the cloud of actual particulate going everywhere yeah this one what you'll see is um i don't know wacky wacky smoke exactly that yes yes that's what they use for this okay cory i'm excited i think maybe you could do a little more jason yeah oh really yeah you know you're like back here yeah okay god look i'm a fireproof ghost it's like retroactively finding out like i'm about to find out that i've placed my faith in the wrong thing for very long what do you no not that what no no no the the start the fire oh i thought you said get behind me because it's gonna be dangerous but you're like it's gonna be a big explosion so uh although i it may be a big explosion you may wanna you may wanna stand back all right ready i'm ready there it is there we go all right right okay oh it's beautiful wow okay so from the [Music] bottom [Applause] we got the fire tornado finally this was not enough the theater would have burned down yeah corey you did too much man okay look we gotta rely on this one easy fire spray [Music] that's a joke is it silly string i don't know it's if they do make novelty fire extinguishers this is it easy fire spray good old easy fire spray please save brian's reputation no sh what bullsh is this a joke well i mean are you kidding me co2 softened it up are you kidding me i'm gonna keep standing back here because reasons i think we need to send a bill to easy fire spray because i think it just did the job that a co2 fire extinguisher couldn't do i think you owe a lot of people an apology for all of these lies about co2 you just needed more co2s like at this point i feel like that's reasonably effective right yeah it says safe and easy cleanup ideal for grease fires sprays four times longer that's a fact ideal for a greasy trash and electric yeah i bet i bet we can finish it off with the you know put it to sleep just gently gently gently don't yeah i wouldn't oh don't even i would just like it's just melting the strap that's fine you know what good enough yep oh dear hmm i'm gonna step on out it's burning through the fire proof blanket is that supposed to happen yeah you know what uh that doesn't give me a lot of confidence if that's gonna help me i can't believe it i can't believe it's not on fire that's what they should call it i can't believe it's not burning down see if we can get them just as is get get those hit yeah yeah i i think there's some amount of of of surfactant guesses happening there you go yeah so now we're getting rid of both the heat reservoir and wow okay here's the question do you trust it no you're that's a beard loser yeah a little you just want like a stick or something yeah [Music] no we're good son of a we're good we learned fire safety hey all right get out of there you know after doing it for five years out that's when you die you know it come on i don't know about you sometimes i get a phone call and i don't want to take it in public so i go to the bathroom right you just kind of duck out in the bathroom now it's still private in the bathroom there are locks at all the stalls but it would be pretty weird if somebody had a clipboard and just sort of wrote down my name every time i went in and out of the bathroom i ain't doing nothing wrong and everybody knows that what i do in the bathroom is my own business look guys that's the internet they may not know what you're up to but they know where whoever they is they know where you're going that's why you should have your own private bathroom imagine your own private space where ain't nobody knows how often you're coming or going or what you're up to on the
